Do not use this person. First of all showed up late looked at my refrigerator for 30 seconds and told me I needed a new ice maker. Took my credit card. Let me know. The part was $480. Charged my card $495 when I asked him what the difference was he said it was a credit card fee which wasn't disclosed. Trying to get this person back after the part was in was a nightmare. He called and canceled several times. Finally had to come when my son was home. He supposedly asked my son if he could turn the ice back on without putting the ice trap in. When I got home the next day, there was ice all over my freezer and my new hardwood floors. When I contacted him, he told me it wasn't his problem to put the ice trap back in. Fast forward to today June, and the dryer is broken again making the same noise that was repaired. Called M-4 for potential warranty work as it's within 12 months. After 1 week he has changed the date of service multiple times, and of recent has not gotten back to us to actually schedule service and show up. This guy is nothing more than a scammer! I am 70 year old female on oxygen and I guess he thought easy target. My freezer quit working and I called him because I could get same day service. He came out pulled the freezer door out layed down on the floor and pulled out a circuit board showed me a circuit board and showed me a burn mark. I asked how much it would be and he said a couple hundred I said ok. He went out to his truck came in with what presumably was supposed to be a new circuit board lay down on the floor popped it in and then told me that little board cost 660 bucks. I said you said a couple hundred he goes cheaper than a refrigerator. I'll only charge you 100 for labor so it was $760 plus a $28 credit card fee that he never told me about then on the receipt he wrote 200 for the part and 560 for labor scammer all the way the refrigerator stopped working. I called them and he refused to come out saying that he never got his payment through the credit card. I said it posted to my account you had to get it. He said he didn't and he wasn't coming out unless I was willing to give him $788 in cash and he had given me a two-year warranty on labor and parts so I told him I'd see him in court I called another company out. I should have read reviews before I hired Mike. He came recommended from a friend, but it appears his quality of work has changed in the last few years. He was great and came out right away to fix a leaky washer. However he installed the wrong part and has been dragging me along for over a month and a half to actually fix the machine. Said I could save 3% by paying with a check. We did. That was on May 23rd. After two weeks of excuses about not able to locate part, and during a second house call where I requested he stop telling stories that had nothing to do with our repair, he yelled "hostile work environment." In the hasty interchange that followed, we asked for our money back. Said he would see us in court and good luck getting our money back (or words to that effect). Next, after a couple more clearly worded text exchanges where we again asked for our money back (minus service call) he informed us he might ask his bookkeeper to refund our payment "but she only does it periodically." He replaced the temperature control unit on our beverage cooler which got it working which was fine BUT his price was OUTRAGEOUS! ! $500 for a $65 part and a little over 1 hour of work. I concur with other reviews in that mike over-charges for his work. First let me say I thought I would save some money by not using a more reliable local business that quoted me a higher service charge ($125) and repair cost would be extra (probably another $150) and extra for the parts (unknown cost). Using Mike turned out to be successful but only after hours of waiting for him to arrive. He originally said between 2pm-4pm but later changed it to 6pm and was even late arriving to that time. After arriving he did get the repair completed quickly and accurately but I felt he over charged me for the part at $240 for a $25 part. HIs service fee was $75 that was applied to the labor cost totaling $120. Over all I felt the total charge for the repair was higher than expected for using Mike. All in all I learned that the local more reputable company would have been here sooner and probably charged the same price (more or less) but less inconvenience and stress. read more

Hello! I've lived in Sparks for 20+ years now and always needed help on home maintenance, as that is certainly not a strength of mine (I'm a high school math teacher). I've used Mike from M-4 Applicance Repair consistently for the past 5 years I'd say. ... He has now repaired my 1) dishwasher, 2) refrigerator, 3) garbage disposal, 4) dishwasher (different issue) 5) old dryer, 6) old washer, and most recently he came out for my 7) new dryer. Next will probably be my new washer LOL! He has always been prompt to get out to see me and has known how to fix my appliances. (I see that one yelp reviewer said that he dropped off of communication.... He changed his personal phone number and you need to use the phone number that comes up on Google M-4 Applicance search to get to the calling service to get to him and then I got his new personal cell number when he called me back.) His prices have been very fair! I see another Yelp review that said he was a bit of a scam artist... I know that isn't true at all in my case (and in the case of my brother and mother who have also used him). He is so friendly and helpful... and I strongly suspect that the person writing the scam artist review did so in order to try to create a bad review to get Mike to give him some free work.... Sad the way people can leverage fake/unfair online reviews to try to get "free" service or discounts. He has always given me seemingly great prices and been able to make fixes on broken parts quickly. In this last time he was out working on my dryer a few days ago, he noticed that it should still be under the manufacture 2 year warranty and referred me to check that before repairing it himself... so I see that as total honesty and a good man! I am getting my dryer fixed under warranty now because he knew my warranty should still be valid rather than ordering the part himself and charging me for the repair. I can't even give this a STAR. he came to my house and said he "fixed" my washer. I then did a normal small load and my leak was bigger then when it originally was. We called him back to fix it and he was saying it was our fault and being very disrespectful and VERY unprofessional.then he Left and said he doesnt have time today to fix our mistake. So he planned to come back on Tuesday at 5pm then rescheduled for 7pm but never showed up he came back 3days later meanwhile i was going to the laundry Matt because he didn't fix it on the original day he was supposed to. he then decided because "its winter he can park on our lawn" (his own words) when there was a spot to park in front of my car. Then he continued to work on the washer when he was finished he said to start a load to make sure it was fixed and he will be back to check. He put his tools in his truck and left i called him wondering why he left when he said he would check to see if it was fixed and refused all my calls, and now the washer won't even start when our original problem was a little leak. Now my washer won't even start. It gets worse and worse each time he comes. each time he came out to fix my washer it was around 8:30 pm . He was extremely flakey. Took over two weeks of "I'll be there tomorrow" to get him to come repair my machine. I paid with cash and he didn't have change so he just kept the extra. The replaced parts did absolutely nothing to fix our machine. It still kept doing the exact same thing. I had to constantly text and call. He offered a partial refund and said he'd take the machine to recover some of the money but completely flaked even after repeated calls and texts. I couldn't stand doing any more laundry at the laundry mat and found a new machine after a month. I've given up on getting any of my money back and have arranged to have another service recycle my machine. I understand people get busy but his complete lack of communication, taking hundreds of dollars for 4 springs that repaired nothing and not coming back is just ridiculous. Please be careful he is a scammer. Our water filter tube from our fridge was leaking. I took it upon myself to try to cut the tube and try to add a coupler but was unsuccessful which lead to me contacting Mike. This was my first encounter with him he seemed trust worthy and prompt. I was told a coupler could not be placed due to fridge manufacturers intentionally making the tubes diameter non-universal. He stated I needed to order a new water filter tube and replace it and it would take 3-5 business days from Monday since he came on a Saturday and wouldn't be able to order the part until Monday. Miraculously he called a Monday saying he could come and fix it that day.. not sure how the piece got there so fast. He lasted less than 10 mins to fix the job I was impressed. When he left I pulled the fridge out of curiosity to make sure the tube was new. To my surprise he put a coupler. When I called and messaged him about it he said he replaced the tube but it was too short and needed to put a coupler... at the same spot I had originally cut the tube and that was my initial plan. I asked for proof of the old tube and he said he was at multiple jobs and could not send it but would send it the next morning. The next day he did not respond until two days later in afternoon saying his son used his truck and threw away the part but was going to try to get it back from the dumpster... and accused me of being nuts for insisting when none of this made sense. He charged me for a whole new water filter tube but in reality he just used a coupler to connect the old parts. Why would a new tube not wrap around the whole fridge like the original did. He also told me it would be no more than $250 for the part and labor but charged me $280. Beyond disappointed he is very good at misleading and hoping you won't catch him. read more

Mike came out to our house on the 04/01/2024 as our fridge was not cooling any longer. Mike removed the back bottom panel to the fridge and checked a few things. Mike stated the compressor was still good, but it seemed it was just out of freon. Mike did not check for leaks with nitrogen as is the common practice for any cooling system. In fact Mike did not check for leaks at all nor did Mike evacuate the system for anything that could be left in the system. I have my 608/609 certification for automotive so I know what is required for handling 134-A freon. Instead Mike stated the fridge was out of freon and just needed to be refilled. Mike then proceeded to say he just needed to install an access valve. Mike stated it would cost $850.00 to install the access valve and refill the fridge with freon. The home is my mother's and she is facing kidney failure so money is tight for her. We were very hesitant at first, but Mike stated payments would be okay if she needed. It was my mother's call so she said yes because Mike would leave a 5 year warranty for the work done. So Mike installed the access valve and refilled the system. The first payment was made after Mike finished the work. Fast forward to 05/01/2024 the fridge stopped cooling again. My brother reached out to Mike and for two weeks Mike gave him the run around. Mike finally came out 5/20/2024 at 8:00PM! Mike comes in adds stop leak to the system and refills it. Again not checking for leaks. Then again Mike couldn't check for leaks because he didn't bring his work van. I assume the truck was his personal truck, so without extra equipment he couldn't check for leaks. Mike stated to call in the morning to setup payment because the payment for May was not made. The fridge was not working so Mike was not getting the payment. Fast forward 05/25/2024 the fridge is again not cooling. My mother texted Mike and stated. "Mike this is Nola. The refrigerator is not cooling again. Need a reply in 1 hour or will call someone else. If they fix it I will not pay you any more as this is irresponsible and unprofessional." Roughly a bit more then an hour later Mike calls. My mother answers her phone, immediately from 20ft away I can only hear Mike yelling on the phone at my mother! I've been a plumber for 20 years and NEVER HAVE I EVER spoke to a customer like that! I walked over and my mother handed me the phone. I stated to Mike do not talk to my mother like that! So Mike proceeds to start yelling at me, I stated to Mike you will not talk to me like that either. I tried explaining to Mike why my mother felt this way, Mike wants payments yet Mike is not fixing the problem and getting Mike to come out or to reply or call is darn near impossible. Mike stated well I can come out and take a look tomorrow, I stated no I called someone else and they are going to do a leak test 05/26/2024 when they come out. Mike stated well I can give you refund if it isn't fixable. I told Mike that was fine and someone would get a hold of him and let him know the outcome. Mike calls my brother and starts talking to him about everything and stated he could come out today. Mike asked my brother who I was and my brother told him. Mike wanted to speak to me and I told my brother no, I have said all I needed to. (No point in arguing.) The next morning the other repairman came out and leak checked the system after evacuating the system entirely. It took a minute as the leak had to get through the whole system and finally presented itself with bubbles from soap and water. The repairman stated this cannot be fixed, the fridge just needs to be recycled. The repairman charged us $160.00 and he quoted $180.00! Not $850.00! 05/26/2024 - My brother went ahead and let Mike know what was wrong with the fridge. 05/28/2024 Mike told him the refund was contingent on the fridge being fixable, this was not the case! Conclusion to this adventure with Mike, we are eating the $400.00 that has been paid to him. Mike is fine with that, of course! We have a new fridge coming to replace this one. I do not recommend Mike to even my worst enemy. I have read other reviews that stated Mike has done the same things to them for 30 minutes of work. Zero stars actually! Please tell me Yelp why this guys rating is so high? Your numbers do not average and you are not accurately showing all his 1 star and less ratings. I relied on your numbers and I lost money as a result. You should be named in my lawsuit.... Anyway, this guy is a scam artist and a total con. Originally he came out to diagnose my refer that wasn't properly cooling. He never stops talking and promised to recharge my Freon for over $1,500. The size of the charge, having read the reviews, is commensurate with how nice your home is. The next day my refer still was not cooling and he replaced a fan from the freezer to the refer and it worked for a while. By then I googled what the correct charge should have been and it was roughly 25% of what this con man charged. Some months later it started acting up again and he was called because he gave me a one year warranty. He made some excuse about the uncharacteristicly hot weather and was on his way. Since then he's been out to my home maybe 10 additional times, never shutting up about how good he is, all whilst recharging the system with Freon and replacing multiple parts. He also replaced my compressor, quoting me an additional $1,200. He shows up about a week later with a compressor that is not similar to the $800 replacement, but an entirely different one that cost $213.00 on Amazon. Needless to say, that too didn't work. He's never once showed up on time and leaves you waiting 6 hours or more and despite saying he'll be there at 1:00pm, always has about a dozen excuses about his wife going to the hospital (multiple times) or him raising his grandkids and calling their mother a drug addict, none of which I now believe to be true, most times he showed up after 6pm. Never once was he able fix the refer and every time he came up with more charges which he could never collect on, because he has no clue what he's doing. There are many other bad reviews on this guy, and others consistent with this experience. I'm about to deep dive this guy and find out if he's even licensed and file some complaints with the contractors board if he is. I will also be initiating a small claims action against this crook because I'm that irritated about all his nonsense words and thievery. And if you don't believe me, keep reading because the truth is out there and I'd be willing to bet many of the positive ratings are false. And based on the numerous horrible reviews I've read, I find it highly unlikely that his overall rating is what is advertised! If you've come this far, you may have figured out that many "appliance repair" shops don't do refrigerators. I don't know why, but rest assured that M-4 does. Matt was very responsive and was able to work me in pretty quickly. (My freezer wasn't freezing and food was at stake!) He was able to diagnose the problems pretty quickly and special ordered the parts I needed. He came back as soon as they arrived (luckily before any food spoiled). His fee was reasonable and to his credit, he really worked (and worked hard) the whole 2 hours he charged me for! So my experience was very positive, although I would recommend that if you buy a new refrigerator, consider extending the warranty! read more

Fixed my oven so 2 stars for that. Didn't put it back into the cabinet properly. He told me he would return, but when I texted to inquire about timing he told me that he pushed it in as much as he could and my husband said it was fine.
