At any rate, I called Mountain West Heating and Air and the technician arrived within 90 minutes without even asking for expedited service. The tech was super kind, friendly, and honest. He quickly diagnosed the problems and had recommendations handy. I felt no pressure whatsoever and he showed me what was going on nearly every step of the way. 10 STAR service - In the middle of Reno's last heat-wave, our AC died - ouch! It's no fun when your house hits 87' inside! We called Mt. West, who was able to schedule us for the same day; for being in a heat-wave, that was a pleasant surprise! The tech who came out (Chris) found that the last company who serviced the unit for a Spring tune-up, only a month earlier, had fouled up by forgetting to re-attach the wire to the Capacitor, so the fan was running, but not the compressor - hence no cold air. Chris had us up and running in no time. He's the best tech we've ever dealt with and we've been around for quite a few decades. I got a few quotes for replacing our AC, I decided to check the reviews on the places before making a decision and they all had mid reviews but Mountain West popped up with over 200 5 stars reviews on google with people praising their employees and that they beat others prices. So thought I may as well get another one more quote. I'm so glad I did. One place I got a quote from felt like I was at a used car dealership with a hard sales pitch which I don't like dealing with. None of that from Mountain West. They were actually able to come out that same day. The tech came out and took a look, he wrote me up a quote there on the spot and went over it, explained the options thoroughly without making me feel pressured to go with the most expensive option. They came in at about 7k less the other places and I felt good going with them because of their reviews and set up our replacement on the spot. I have parrots in the house and called to discuss my concerns with them as birds are very sensitive to fumes and off gassing. They were very patient with my questions and took the time to get me answers to ensure safety. They called the morning of the installation and let me know they were on the way and showed up when they said they would. The guys doing the installation were impressively kind, professional and polite. They let me know when they were ready to test the system to ensure I had my birds out of the house. They explained and helped get the thermostats set up and ensured everything was working properly and explained how everything worked. They left their work area cleaner then they found it and I was comfortable with them in my home. MW replaced our AC unit over 2.5 year and now the unit is in need of replacing the compressor. Called them for the service and the bill to replace the compressors is $2.5K and home warranty required an itemized bill and requested MW to provide such itemized cost bill and the owner (Andrew) refused to provide and became really defensive about his services, stating this is a flat rate to replace compressor and if you don't like it, take it somewhere else. We picked MW 2.5 years based the 5 stars rating, but now it is the testament on their service after a few years which does not even worth a single star if we rate it. read more

Cooper came out and determined it was a controller board rather than a simpler flame sensor. He found the part and got it working. Mountain West Heating and Air Conditioning will be my HVAC company forever. My AC unit died in the 105 heatwave we recently had in Reno. A tech came out and tried every conceivable way to revive the unit, but it shook and made a terrible noise. The 17 year old unit needed replacement. A few days later John and his other lead installer came to install a new unit. Unfortunately the new unit would not communicate with the old heater. They quickly found a unit that would, and returned the following week. In a few hours it was running smoothly and our home has never cooled so quickly and seems very efficient. The new unit was more expensive than the first quote, but they insisted on only invoicing the original estimate. What company in the Reno area would do this??!! Needed some service on our AC unit that was going out. Tech came out and got us temporarily going to finish off this summer but we are really looking at a whole new system since we are on a 25 year old condenser and using r22 refrigerant which isn't made anymore. They said they will credit us back the refrigerant cost (which is steep because it isn't made anymore) if we install a new system in the next 6 months. Seems like a fair trade since I believe they reclaim the refrigerant for future use. read more

They responded the next morning and explained a couple of different options for maintenance on our units. Said the guy would be there in two days, in a two hour window. This review is way overdue. Our heater (we rent) went out a week or so before Christmas. We called around to see who could come out as it was during one of the long cold snaps here in Reno. No one seemed to be able to come out within a few days (understandable). We were becoming a bit worried that we'd be without heat for a while. Called Mountain West and they were able to come out within a day, ascertained what was wrong (really old furnace with a bunch of problems), and was able to convey the issue with the owner of the house. My first impression with the technician that came out was how knowledgeable he was. Second, I don't think you could ask for a friendlier person to come to your home. A few days later, we had a new furnace installed. They told us to open as many doors and windows as we could after the heat was turned on to air out things, which helped a lot. The crew was quick, professional, and yet again, really, really friendly. The price was better than a lot of other heating and air places we compared them to. Our 35 yr old home had original furnace (Ruud) but no a/c. I convinced husband we need air this year, so I got 5 bids & we thought it best to replace furnace altho it's working fine but couldn't accommodate a/c. NV Energy came to our street to upgrade gas lines. They did a gas leak check on our appliances and found out our heater had a leak and red tagged it when it was on 26 degrees outside! Cooper came to our house the next day and found that our gas valve was leaking. Our wall heater, that was only 6 years old, had been discontinued. Cooper called every place he could think of to find the part in stock for us so we didn't have to buy a whole new heater. He had the part ordered and installed within a week! They have given me the 8-10 am time frame and have gotten here at 8 or just before. He has never tried to sell me anything.
