It was an excellent spread and Nadege was able to provide a sampling for us to try a few weeks prior to the event on short notice. She also printed these helpful signs for the guests to know what they were trying. This was particularly important since we wanted to highlight Haitian culture at the event. Overall, her staff was great and the food was excellent. I would definitely like to try her restaurant, Bonnan, in Brooklyn when I have a chance.

Perhaps I set too high expectations for the class, and am partially to blame, but I was quite disappointed. Here are the things that I wish someone would have told me: 1) It takes an hour and a half from the UES to get here- the class is pretty far into Brooklyn The class is 4 hours. That is a total of 7 hours of your day. That is a bigger part of my weekend than I realized I was committing to when I first signed up. 2) The class is literally in a house. At first, my boyfriend and I thought we had the wrong place. 3) You do not have your own cooking station. You are chopping things up at a large table with about 20 other people. Then the instructor puts everything on the stove and cooks it. For me, getting the food cooked is the hardest part. I know how to cut fruits and vegetables. 4) The recipes are not that sophisticated. We cooked Uncle Ben's rice. Yes, we opened a box of rice and put it into a pot. To make it "homemade" we added cranberries. I should say though that I loved the instructor. She was very funny and knew what she was doing. Again, I did have a good time....but because I would never do it again, I am only giving it a 2 star rating.

My friend had a very nice baby shower here in celebration of her newest addition to her family. They have ample parking in a private lot and very nicely maintained ballrooms for events. My friend's event was upstairs and the space was huge. She had plenty of room for a gift table, dessert table, buffet, DJ and room for dancing. The lighting was pretty and the food was good. The service staff was attentive and cleared away tables quickly. They came around to take drink orders regularly. Her package included wine, beer and juice but they also had an bar downstairs where guests could purchase mixed drinks if they were so inclined. It was definitely a beautiful event and this would be the perfect place for a wedding reception, coming-of-age party (bar/bat mitzvah, sweet sixteen, quinceañera, etc) or a shower.
