My decor team and DJ arrived at 5 in the pouring rain only to come to locked doors and no lights on being denied entry. When reached out to Lisa to ask can my team and dj in, we were told to stand in the rain until 6pm. When asked can we at least put stuff in the lobby so stuff would not get wet we were still told no. After asking over and over finally close to 6 pm the dj n vendor were allowed to placed their products and equipment and the bottom of the steps. Smh. Now when reaching the venue after 6 to begin set up nothing was prepared just chairs and tables. No chafer sets to put food out nothing. I will not recommend this venue to a soul. Lisa in my opinion speaks stern and very rude. Reaching out to her is difficult because you receive responses later. New management would not be a bad idea. The only nice staff in the establishment was the security team.

Upon reaching out to her to schedule the tour of the venue, the message we got back from her via the event planner was something the along the lines of "please be on time because she has things to do" now I'm not saying this was the exact words BUT it was along those lines. Now, we went to see the space the next day. Not only did she now show up or communicate that she wasn't showing up, she sends someone who if not mistaken, is her dad and he was late :). He was very nice I must say. Probably the only pleasant encounter I had the entire process (and the reason I actually booked). Being that he couldn't answer any in depth business questions, we followed up with the owner with questions. It was pretty cut and dry, but in my mind I'm thinking this is a Black woman business owner and I rather give my people my money. She asked what time would we need the space because events after midnight requires security. I told her I'm looking to have my event 8-midnight or 8-1am, would that mean that I have to get security for 1 hour? She tells me, oh you would need it from 8pm-1am for an additional $130. Yea ok miss ma'am because that's NOT what you just said lol. Keep in mind, this event space is NOT cheap. It's $2500 PLUS a $300 refundable deposit if the venue is turned over clean and on time. I had my cousin speak to her from day 1 because I knew deep down in my soul I was going to curse her out for being rude, condescending and unaccommodating. Fast forward from October to January. The venue was booked from 6pm-2am as she only allows an 8 hr slot. That gives me 2 hrs to decorate the space. I asked my cousin to ask if there's anyway we can get in the space any earlier she says $150. My cousin went back to her to plead, asked if she had another event before mine and she said she didn't. She is just HARD for no reason. She eventually compromised to allow 30 minutes earlier. The ONLY accommodations she provided me, was allowing me to pay the balance on the day of event. It is now Jan 28, my team is at event space ready to set up at 5:15pm (remember she said we can have the space at 5:30pm instead of 6pm). At 5:45pm I arrived and everyone is still outside. My cousin calls her and her response is "technically, y'all paid for 6pm so someone is on the way to open the venue" Can you believe that? Lol. Someone finally shows up to open the venue and we walk into an unclean venue. There was a bucket of dirty water and a mop that smells like death in the doorway. There was flowers that was probably from a repass service or something, amongst other things. So not only did she not stick to her word to get us in 30 minutes earlier which I needed to decorate for my OWN event, but she opens the venue at 6 and we have to clean up before we start decorating. We had to call to get help with turning on the air and to adjust the lighting. Like noone was present to help or instruct us on anything. Fast forward to after the event. I had the space until 2am. We started wrapping up around 12:30 because my dj was booked until 1am and he had another booking after my event. At around 1:15am, a random maid was walking around my party asking for "Lorraine". At this time I had 6 out of 8 tables, completely cleared with chairs up, the last 2 tables being worked on, lights are on, dj is 90% packed up, 85% of my guests are GONE. As I am speaking to a few guests this maid interrupts the conversation and says "I'm looking for Lorraine?" So I said "do you mean LORI-ANN? Because I'm her." And she's like "oh yea, I just wanted you to know that the owner is on the way and you guys can begin cleaning up" LOL. So I pointed to the event space and asked her, "what does it look like is happening here?" before turning my back to continue the conversation. This is my BIRTHDAY. I am sending my guests off and you interrupt me, call me the WRONG name and speaking to be in a condescending tone? Furthermore, I have the space until 2am! If I decide to start cleaning at 1:59am that's ON ME. She has my deposit (and thank GOD I only gave her $100 vs $300 on the deposit).

She did a arch of balloons and gave us a baby shower couple chair. Normally you have to rent them. What was great about the space was the dance floor I love the back and white tiles. I also loved the stage for the cake to be the center of attention. The lights were amazing gave it that disco club scene and there was a bar (you bring your own drinks). There also is a coat room and what I loved is that we had a security camera just in case anything went wrong. The surround sound was great too it was a wonderful experience. In 2022, I hired Great Performances to help celebrate the launch of my book at the iconic Strand Bookstore in NYC. I flew in friends and family for what was meant to be a milestone moment. A day before the event, I contracted COVID and, heartbreakingly, had to cancel. The contract clearly stated that in cases of force majeure--like illness--neither party would be at fault. I no longer lived in NYC, so rescheduling wasn't viable. I reached out, respectfully and in good faith, to discuss paying a portion of the nearly $6,000 charge. Instead of any further acknowledgment, I was ghosted. They stopped answering my emails entirely. No returned calls, no response--just silence. I then worked through American Express, who initially agreed I shouldn't be liable. But after years of back and forth, I was told the full charge would stand. Throughout this time, I have yet to speak with a single human being from this company. This isn't just poor customer service. It's a failure of integrity. They collected thousands of dollars for an event that never happened, provided no flexibility, no dialogue, no professionalism. I waited to write this review in hopes of resolution. That hope is gone. So is my money. If you care about decency, transparency, or the simple act of being treated like a human being--look elsewhere.

I may have given her a slight heart attack when I dumped the vinegar into the batter way earlier than necessary, but for the most part Charmaine made sure the others would be able to enjoy our cake. By the time I was over cracking eggs, stirring batter (and yes, even taste testing) it was time to sit down for a 5 star meal of gazpacho, flatbread, salmon, quinoa and the cake. While one group was cooking in the kitchen along side professional chefs the other group was being entertained in the dining area with some kitchen/cooking trivia which was loads of fun. The dining area is relatively small so I'm not certain what the capacity limit is for an event hosted by this company but my guess would be a cooking event by this company is probably limited to a group of about 50 at a time. Larger companies probably would have to break into two separate time slots (but of course only they can answer that question). The kitchen was very clean and we used quality pots, bowls and culinary products and it was apparent when you held the stuff. It truly was an amazing experience and the staff was patient and absolutely great. Heck we were even a tough crowd getting carried away during the entertainment portion. The staff probably wanted to hit us over the head with a couple frying pans but they were great sports! My only complaint from the event was that my company was cheap and didn't order beef, they opted instead for veggie options (Yuk!) but the food quality was great.

If I had one honest critique, I do wish there had been more opportunity to personally season some of the dishes to taste, as I felt parts of the meal were a little bland for my preference. I also personally prefer softer pasta over a firmer al dente texture. That said, I completely understood why the pasta had that texture since we didn't have much time for the dough to fully rest and develop. I also think some light Italian jazz music playing in the background would have elevated the atmosphere even more and really taken the experience to another level.
