About 2 months ago (late in writing my review) I was unable to lock my apartment door from the outside. So I was left unable to leave my apartment. I called and they sent someone over within 2 hours. Someone came by and looked at the locks I had and changed both locks. It took less than an hour and he had everything he needed right there in his truck so there was no needing to come back. He was quick and even let me test all the door from the inside and out a few times to make sure I was happy. I was very happy! read more

This was the most egregious instance of gouging I have ever experienced from a locksmith in New York. Joey worked for five minutes, changed two screws and charged me more than $200. When I questioned the charge (quite different than an earlier phone call to his office led me to believe it would be) he seemed almost amused. My wife and I had a "convenience lock" only on our front door, which for one's "convenience", automatically unlocks when you open the door from inside. The day our one year old figured out that he could open the door and wander the hallway of our building, I called M&D locks. The woman who took my call was extremely polite, committed to sending someone that same day, and gave me a time frame. Needed someone to come out and fix the lock on my apartment door as it was no longer working. I called M&D and Joey was at my apartment an hour later. My lock proved to be a little tricky to fix as my door is bent and doesn't align to the wall perfectly, but Joey was able to get it all lined up and the lock works perfectly now. This is the 2nd review I am leaving for M&D Locksmith, the 1st one is not showing up on here. My previous review was also 1 star, deservingly! I resonate most with Kelly C. & G.C. (also left 1 stars) due to generally shady & unpleasant service. As stated in other reviews there's always a disconnect between the price quote over the phone, and price quote from the actual locksmith Joseph (Joey) who does the job. I paid $375 for a brand new lock & service, and then it wasn't working a few days later. When I called and spoke with reception, she agreed they would come out. I knew the locksmith, Joey to be difficult (from his previous visit) so I asked for a confirmation there would be no charge for this visit, to which she said "of course". And then when he arrived he complained about having to come out again, and tried to blame me for the lock and contentiously insisted i'd have to pay more. In general it was an unsavory experience for me. I can see that Joey is very aggressive to the point of bullying, also here to reviewers of 3 stars or less. I can see why people would be afraid to leave bad reviews. I understand yelp reviews are important to their business, but it's only fair that potential customers see a fair representation of what they're in for. read more

After reading the reviews for this locksmith I was completely sold. I called and customer service was extremely courteous and helpful; it's a major reason this business is receiving three stars. The locksmith was running late but I did receive a call from customer service as well as the locksmith himself to inform me. However, he went to the wrong address and was much later than initially anticipated. He showed up nearly an hour and 15 minutes outside the timeframe (after 9:00 pm and I'm a single female which didn't make me feel warm and fuzzy). He did an acceptable job however I later noticed that he left screws and other items on the floor for me to dispose. I need another lock changed but will not be using this company. read more

These people were just magic. I have a used VW Beetle that came with a digital key I was told "didn't work". A year later my car door wouldn't open and I told by everyone that I would have to go to a VW Dealership (aka get charged a small fortune). I went to M&D and they immediately set about fixing the problem. They cut me a new key, reprogrammed the old key (something I had been told would be impossible) and replaced the batteries. So I ended up with a brand new key and digital key that was resurrected from the dead. They charged me a very reasonable price and sent me along smiling.
