One of the great things about Yelp is that it gives voice to the customer. One of the bad things about Yelp is the exact same thing. Yelp tends to become a forum for a lot of psychological issues that are cloaked in statements like, I didn't like my bagel. That said, sometimes it really does help to know when a business is serious about being a BUSINESS and when a business makes jerking people around a default option. I thought I would give a local business a chance. A simple case. I had a cushion. On the underside of the cushion, all the buttons were fine. On the topside of the cushion, half the buttons were crap. My request: take the good buttons from the bottom and put them on the top. Use old buttons (they didn't even have to match!) on the bottom, where no one could see. I brought it in on February 8th. "I'll have it done next week." I came in on Friday of the following week and he explained that what I wanted done, couldn't be done. He said that he would have to replace all the buttons. Fine. We looked at swatches. I decided on a good enough replacement for all the buttons. At this point, he wrote up an official receipt which included my phone number. He said, it would be done by the end of the next week and that he would call me. Guess what? No phone call. I would drive by. He was clearly open, yet my cushion remained in the window, untouched. Finally, on March 30th, I went in to see what the deal was. I was told that he had the material and that he would have it done by April 2nd. No phone call. Nothing. On April 8th, I went in and was told it would be done by April 9th. Guess what? On April 9th, it was still in the window, untouched. As of today, April 10, still not done. Well, now it's not done because I took it away from him and it's in my house, where it will remain until I find a reputable upholsterer. I got a lot of excuses - "my folks are sick." Hey, I'm very sorry. I can relate, I have elderly parents too. Here are your options on this one: a.) immerse yourself in your work to take your mind off it, or b.) tell me you can't do it due to family problems. But option c.) jerking me around by telling me it'll be ready tomorrow, next week, in a few days, etc., is really NOT an option. So save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. I think what makes me angrier than anything is being jerked around. This guy? The King of doing just that.
