Brian walked in, took a look at the unit and said he knew EXACTLY what the problem was five seconds later. He saw the float valve was popped up on the drainage tube (which I didn't even realize was something I needed to be on the lookout for ). He cleaned out the drainage tube and the rest of the unit for good measure, and I appreciated both the quick assessment, resolution, and education he gave me on maintenance during that visit. I signed up for their twice-yearly maintenance package that day, and I've been a happy subscriber ever since. Jorge has come to do the maintenance the last couple of times, and he is thorough and equally as knowledgeable as Brian. When he had a concern about the air flow coming out of one of the vents, he was quick to volunteer to crawl under the house to take a look at the duct work, and I really appreciated his honest assessment of it. The insulation is starting to fall down and wear out, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I could save up a few more years before the ductwork would probably actually need full replacing, and he gave me a ballpark figure based on the square footage and number of vents in my house, so I can plan accordingly. Much appreciated!! A company that employs people with such knowledge and integrity is a company that will have my business for decades to come. You'd think that having to blow (no pun intended) that much money these companies would be falling all over each other to get my business? Am I right or am I crazy? Anyhoo out of the 5, only two actually called me with estimates and explained the process...only two. Oh Hampton Roads c'mon you're better that that! Now remember, they all went to my home to see what needed to be done, but only 2 called me back with information. Anyway company #2 gave me a written estimate, and when I called with follow up questions they were less than helpful. Enter company #1 White Goods Services. Rusty (yep) called me and emailed me a lot of information, and even sweetened the pot a bit for me since I was on a tight time schedule. He was patient (I am stationed overseas and was flying home to oversee the install) with all my internet phone calls with more than likely dumb questions. But he wanted my business and explained it all in great detail to me. Even though at points during his phone calls my eyes did glaze over a bit, I mean explaining HVAC systems isn't exactly riveting like watching an Avengers movie...but I digress. Once at the home he came out with his crew (who by the way were the utmost professionals, going out of their way to make sure everything was perfect) and began the install. It took two days as this was a rather big job. Once it was done the house was cool, (pun intended) and all the new equipment was given a thorough inspection along with follow up visits to come. They taught us how to use the state of the art panels and climate controls, and bonus hey I can set the ac to freezing though an app on my cell phone just to mess with my tenants heads now..lol! They might think the house is haunted...But I wont. Out of all the companies Rusty and his team were not the least expensive, but they offered more bang for the buck in terms of service agreements and warranties. I have to say after dealing with this company I will always recommend them to anyone looking for honest HVAC repair or install. It was a quick turnaround and every bit of it went according to a plan Rusty laid out for me. No surprises, no added costs, I got exactly what I paid for. I just wanted to speak over the phone with the technician who was last in our house and ask him some questions directly, but I guess that was an unreasonable request! Unreal. It seems every time they come for some kind of maintenance something goes wrong with our system. The billing is very disorganized and we were over charged, which I had to discover by looking through bank statements. The billing was refunded, but that should never have happened in the first place. Time to move on. Unfortunate.

I called Pride Mechanical on Sunday and left a message on their non emergency voicemail. They called me first thing Monday morning, and we set up an appointment for a timeframe that worked with my fairly busy schedule for that day. Really convenient. Got a text saying they were on their way about 5 minutes after the 3 hour appointment window started. They were at my home in like 20 minutes after receiving the text. The inside of my house was kind of messy, but they didn't even need to come inside. They were able to go straight to my units and start their diagnostics less than 3 minutes after arriving at my home. Within about 15 minutes they had successfully figured out and fixed the problem. I could not have asked for a better experience. I was very grateful and impressed. The technicians were polite, friendly (and not aggressively friendly if you know what I mean), and did a great job discussing my HVAC system and answering my questions without getting overly technical or insulting my intelligence by being overly basic. My…read moreintention isn't to complain, but to express how the experience felt from a homeowner's point of view -- especially in a stressful situation with a non-working AC and a newborn in the house. When I booked the appointment, I was told there would be an $89 diagnostic fee, which I completely understood. But once the technician arrived and saw that the line was frozen, I was told I'd need to pay an additional $229 to thaw the system before any diagnosis could be made. This caught me off guard, as I didn't expect such a significant extra charge for something that seemed like a necessary part of troubleshooting. After the line was thawed, I hoped for a clearer answer, but the technician told me: * He couldn't say how much refrigerant I needed * He had only 1 lb of R-22 * He would need to leave and return, which would cost another $175 for travel time, plus $280 per pound of R-22 * Alternatively, he offered to fill the system with an alternative refrigerant, and kindly noted that if we replaced the unit later, we wouldn't be charged for it * Lastly, I was given a $10,000 replacement quote and was asked to leave a deposit if I wanted to move forward I respect that the technician came out and did his part, but I walked away feeling like I had paid over $300 and was still left without a real solution -- only an expensive replacement quote or the promise of more charges if I wanted to continue. I'm not trying to question anyone's integrity. But as a customer, I left the visit feeling overwhelmed and unsure if this was truly the best approach for someone in my situation. I understand that older units and R-22 systems are tough, but I think more transparency upfront -- especially about extra charges -- would've made a big difference.
