We were on a long trip up from North Carolina and our car started pulling hard to the left right after we'd crossed the NJ line. I figured it must be an alignment issue, and told the guys here. They quickly informed me that it was NOT the alignment but rather one of the tires, which had gone all egg-shaped. We ordered a new set of tires and they got them picked up and installed quickly. The staff here was friendly, helpful, and didn't try to take advantage of the out of towners, even when I'd given them the opening by suggesting a more expensive fix. I have been dealing with mike ever since he left the local dealership. The man is extremely honest and knowledgeable. His prices are fair. He demands a high standard from his technicians, and will make appropriate investments as necessary. He spends the time and effort to properly diagnose a problem, instead of merely relying on the OBD-II scanner. Even when my car broke down in their lot (and the rental car places are closed), one of his techs have given me a ride home. His schedule fills up fast, which is indicative of his quality of service, and people drive out of their way to fill up his appointment book (even several hours). If you need tires, he's probably the best value around Aside from working VW's and in particular, TDI's, he's also very knowledgeable on Toyotas as well. read more

Mike Hevner was recommended to me from the guys at Bora Parts (the best VW TDI aftermarket parts store) while I was up at TDI fest (convention for VW diesel car owners). He is the pre-eminent TDI mechanic in the northeast and I drive 2+ hours to have him service my 2005 passat TDI. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my diesel and although I wish he were a lot closer to NYC, his rural location seems to keep his overhead and prices very reasonable. I can't imagine how anyone would have given Mike a bad review. He is that rarest of creatures, an honest, knowledgable and reasonably priced mechanic. read more

Teribble!!!! i had Mike do some preventative maintenance on my car by replacing the flywheel. when i picked the car back up there was no coolant in the car!!! the alarm went off and i had to pull into a gas station and refill the coolant. shortly after i discovered a major oil leak in the engine area and the car started to slip gears while driving. mind you i never had any problems with the transmission before i brought it to M&M auto. they tried to fix the car but it was too late. i was left with a destroyed transmission and told they couldnt do anything. i took my car to the vw dealership in rockaway nj and had a new transmission installed for $4500!!! very poor mechanic to go to. save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. his prices might be low but so is the quality of work done. read more

Mike is super knowledgeable when it comes to VW TDI's. There was a terrible racket coming from the engine in my 2006 Jetta. After researching online, I suspected the camshaft was defective like many other people reported. Mike diagnosed the problem and replaced camshaft, lifters, etc. I also had him replace my dual-mass flywheel (also defective) with a new conventional flywheel and new clutch. He even found a problem with my emergency brake cables being frozen that was never caught after years of going to the dealer. All the work was done professionally, the car runs great (work was done 5K miles ago) and I'm planning to use M&M for all future work. read more

I've been a customer of Mike's for roughly 5 years now before he even moved into the shop in Montague. Either I'm an idiot to keep coming back, or the guy genuinely does good work. I've recommended many friends to him and they've always left happy. He's even offered to help trouble shoot over the phone (to the best of his abilities). I honestly don't know what the other reviewer is talking about. He's had some mishaps with a few employees, but he always makes good on correcting any issues that may come up. On that note, I'll keep going to M&M as long as he's within reasonable driving distance. You can't go wrong with this guy...if you've got any questions, ask to see his certifications. read more

My 2010 diesel Jetta has just had problem after problem, and when my VW dealer told me it would cost $1,700 to replace the timing belt I was fed up and decided to do some research. My friend referred me to M&M saying that he brings his TDI in there all the time, saying that they specialize in diesel VWs. So I call them up and they told me it would cost $850 to do the entire assembly. That's half the price of what my dealer wanted! And they only use OEM parts too, no cheap, unreliable crap. When I arrived everyone was really friendly and Mike had explained what he was going to do and who was going to work on my car. It was an all day job so he even offered to drive me to the local town for the day! It was a cute town (Milford, PA) with some great restaurants and cafes. When I got back they had just finished up and even fixed a panel on my car that was loose. The level of professionalism is outstanding, but the hospitality and friendliness was unreal; I'll never go anywhere else to get my car fixed or serviced again after this amazing experience. read more

I found Mike several years ago through tdiclub.com when I was looking to have my 2003 Jetta TDI serviced. Prior, the vehicle had always been serviced by the dealership where I bought it brand new. The dealership time and time again proved they indeed were not experts (and really not even good), with each experience costing me money and frustration. Before my first service at M&M Mike spent considerable time speaking with me. That conversation convinced me he knew what he was doing and he had a high level of concern for customer satisfaction so I started using his service. Worth noting that his prices are probably half of what a dealership would charge. Over the years Mike has serviced my car for both minor and major (timing belt, clutch) things. My confidence in him is strong. So strong that I drive 110 miles each way from my home on Long Island to his facility. That's how good the service experience has been. My most recent experience prompted me to write this review. He worked within my budget to prioritize repairs that were needed and create a timeline for repairs that can be expected. Claims to be an expert in many different fields while he proves to be a master in none. Has good prices, but you pay for the low price in the quality of the workmanship. I have had bad experiences with mechanics before, but never to the point where things were consistently forgotten to be completed, parts broken, bad diagnosis etc. Had several jobs done by Mike, 1 out of the 3 jobs was completed without a hitch. 2nd of the 3 jobs was fixes under warranty which he tried to deny. 3rd set of repairs was a complete nightmare with many mistakes and his concentration on 4 other cars. I think if the repair shop concentrated on one job at a time the outcome could have been different. But the fact of the matter is he is a scatterbrained mechanic trying to juggle 4 or 5 cars at the same time with very poor results. He hops from one car to the next never finishing one job he starts. He misplaces hardware consistently and forgets to put things back on the car correctly. This causes the eed to go back several times for the same repair.I recommend to stay away from this shop if you have high standard for repairs. read more
