Stopped in for the first time earlier today on the recommendation of another well-respected local…read moregun shop for where to sell used firearms. They do cash trade-ins day-of-sale unlike most gun shops in the area that only do consignment. They take the time to properly appraise what you bring in, make sure it's legal for sale in California and make sure all the required paperwork is filled out properly. Their prices are generally fair market value from what I've seen considering it's a cash-day-of trade-in. You'll be waiting for maybe an hour at most here to get paid for selling your stuff instead of the weeks that you would with a consignment sale or what passes for a private-party transaction in CA. Could you potentially get more selling privately or putting your stuff on consignment and waiting for it to move instead? Maybe, but their way of doing things avoids a lot of the multiple trips and waiting time that comes with doing either of those other two options instead in California. I would definitely recommend coming here if you have guns you need to sell urgently or if you would just rather not deal with selling on consignment or arranging a private-party sale yourself.

They take the time to answer questions, give honest advice, and make sure you leave confident in your purchase. No pressure, no ego, just solid people who care about their customers and the shooting community. Rare to find a shop with this level of professionalism and authenticity these days. For reference , I am a gunsmith and a former owner of Graphite Dynamics, which was a firearms development company. I ran into Friendly FFL. They are a really small place that only does DROS services and they don't sell actual firearms. Loc is a great guy who runs the place. He is an instructor as well as an RO., and he really knows his stuff. Most of all, he literally is friendly. I can tell you from my experience that a lot of FFL folks tend to be gun snobs who act like they know everything and actually look down on customers like we are peasants who know nothing about guns. It's unfortunate that this hobby has a lot of know it all jerks.. They are really friendly and best of all because they are a very knowledgeable. They are more than happy to answer your questions no matter how dumb you may think your question is.. they really do make the firearms hobby more enjoyable . it is especially important when you live in California where there are so many gun laws that changed almost monthly that it's good to have a knowledgeable person to help you deal with it all.. I haven't done any firearms transfers yet, but I've done several ammunition transfers and it was a breeze. Overall, their prices are very low and they are very good at letting you know when your stuff has come in.. As a gunsmith and former firearms company owner, I would highly recommend Friendly FFL.

I scheduled online to complete the ppwk to pick up a firearm for Wednesday, April 29th @ 9:00am. I know that getting there early on the weekdays is the key to not having to wait in line. I got there about 9:02am. I told the gentleman, a middle-aged Latino man with a gray beard and mustache, at the gun counter that I had a 9:00am appointment. He told me that he wasn't ready and was still setting up and to join the queue by registering at the kiosk. I registered at the kiosk and got a text from Bass Pro at 9:35am that my 9:00am appointment had been cancelled. Now, I was number five in the queue and it was now 10:45am. I had to leave for another appointment. I was not a happy camper. Driving to my next appointment, I called for a manager. I told Marcos the situation and he would get back to me to investigate what transpired. He called and left a message. His message relayed that I didn't get there until 9:16am and that there were several customers ahead of me so my appointment could not be accepted. That was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard; someone was trying to cover their @ss or @asses. This will be my last purchase at Bass Pro stores and I will shop from an independent store where they take accountability and take care of their customers.

The Gun Exchange is staffed by people who know what they are doing and are willing to share their depth of experience to those who want to build a relationship......just like anywhere else. It is different than your going into BPS nearby and saying that you want a box of ammo for xx. They will ask what you're hunting, what distance you're expecting to shoot, where are you hunting and pick something that will suit you well......IF you've chatted with them as adults and they have a reason to believe that you might be a good guy/gal. I suppose that I shouldn't be surprised that people in the Bay Area might not know the difference between someone going out and shooting and those who join the community of hunters and shooters. Spend some time with the people who know stuff if you'd like to increase the depth of your enjoyment of the sport. Old hunters have seen amazing stuff. Ditto Jim Cox in Salinas.....if he thinks that you're a fool or that as the customer you think that things should be "your way", he will treat you as a buyer and not as someone in the circle. Both the guys in this shop smile. Saw it myself. Appreciate their time as you'd want your time appreciated. It will lead to a great experience. It's not a store. It's not Burger King either.

You might be able to guess where I stand. Anyway, I came in looking for some ammo. Common ammo. Ammo Big 5 would have, but I like to support local business. So I came here. I come in and there are no customers. This isn't a bad sign to me, it was outside peak hours and the shop is kind of tucked away. Joe is there, and joe is talking to someone. Joe is telling a story to this someone. I see them, they see me, they nod at me. I nod back. I begin to open my mouth, and Joe continues his story, pointedly ignoring me. Hey, that's fine, I'll look around. It's a new store, maybe they have some cool stuff? No, they don't. Castello Gun Shop is a fudd shop. They only stock nonsense calibers from 100 years ago that an ever-dwindling number of people even know about, much less want. See all the people raving about black powder and the midrange knife selection they have. So you're set if you either A, want an average quality knife that I wouldn't expect to last 5 years, or B, have a gun so old fashioned the government doesn't even classify it as a gun. Like I said, an ever-dwindling audience. Also, you'll apparently have to stand around listening to Joe and his friend/coworker/victim talk about nonsense and laugh at parts that weren't identifiable as jokes for 15 minutes. Yes, Joe kept me waiting 15 minutes because he was busy telling some dumb story to someone who dropped a lot of hints that he was ready to leave. I was kind of scared that this was actually the previous customer, and Joe had cast some sort of spell that froze him there, stuck listening to unfunny random nonsense until someone came to break the curse. I hoped it wouldn't transfer to me. When Joe finally deigned to speak with me, it was to confirm that they didn't have any of the calibers of ammo I wanted. That would .223, 5.56mm, .308 Winchester, 7.62x51, 9mm, .38 special, .357 magnum, and .44 magnum. Look, I get not stocking all, but stocking none? What exactly do you sell here? It took all of 30 seconds to confirm Joe didn't have anything I wanted. So yeah, 15 minutes wasted because he's too rude to help a customer at his store. I don't see much reason to come back given every single other store has nicer employees that actually, you know, want customers.
