Many of the reviews here are not in line with my experience at Perry's. I did my FSC, purchased 3 firearms (used and new) over a month period, bought hundreds of rounds of ammo, and felt the process was very reasonable and straight forward. I'm not new to firearms but new to ownership. Perry is knowledgeable, personable enough, and straight forward. If you're expecting to be treated like you're buying a wedding dress then perhaps gun shops generally aren't for you. Know basic firearms laws around purchasing, pick up, and transport, know what you want to buy, and then go buy it. There's a large selection of firearms and ammo on hand. If the shop doesn't have what you're looking for he'll order it for you at minimal charge. I have had nothing but very good experiences at Perry's. The customer service there can't be beat. All the people there are great to deal with. Perry is very knowledgeable and helpful. Matt, who does the shipping for Perry among other things, always goes above and beyond expectations to ensure that my firearms were packaged properly and shipped out to other FFLs in a very timely manner. I've known Perry since 1997. He has not changed a bit. Still a little up tight about something, not sure what it is. I bought several guns from perry, but when I purchased a RUGER single six, used, I noticed the sight was broken. Perry offered to get me another one, and I patiently waited six weeks. The excuses were astonishing. So I went to AMAZON, and two days later, new sights were in hand. Then the fact the trigger would not operate, I went back to visit PERRYS SPORTING GOODS. MORE EXCUSES, NO ASSISTANCE, like he never wanted to sell me another gun. Or help me resolve the problem . SPORTSMAN SUPPLY ! What a great place. Friendly, helpful, and a great selection of guns.....and ammo! I'll never spend another cent at Perry's, and would encourage any responsible firearms owner to stay away from that place. Took my Hoyt compound bow for new string and tune up. Perry showed me the new generation of pin sights and some new arrows and add all he recommended. Picked up bow today and hit the target for a few shots. All I can say is Perry knows his stuff, my good bow came out of his shop as a GREAT bow. Everything he told me was very accurate and the sight is off the chart. I cant wait to hit the family farm in Iowa in November for some deer hunting. I also bought my Smith and Wesson hand gun from Perry with the same Great service and knowledge. Perry can be a little grumpy at times but that does not diminish his work and intimate knowledge of the products and services he offers. It's easy to see through the veil of who got the stroke of fear through them when pandemic hit and the flock of you decided now you want a gun. The irony. Perry runs his store as if he could not care less about customer service. He is very rude, very opinionated and crass. I will never return to his store. Perry is honest, knowledgeable and direct. That's whay you get. My experience is that I regret very much going to other shops in the valley just to overpay a lot and getting a service that doesn't justify the price. I learned my lesson. An acquaintance that knew of Perry for many years recommended him and since then Perry's is my shop and I'm so happy about it. I've saved hundreds if not thousands over the years. Tip: if you go and the shop is really busy just come another day or try another time when it is not that busy so he can give you the best service, it is that simple!! I totally empathize with him. And my last contribution: if you look at the reviews they are either 5 stars or 1 star. Interesting. Ok, so most bad reviews follow a pattern, these are complains about his ways and manners but if you read enough reviews you run into a clue that is key: a complainer complaining about that no one was wearing masks in his shop! Within the last 3 days I have tried to call Perry's multiple times and NO ANSWER. When someone eventually did pick up the phone the man was extremely short with me, failed to answer my question and then proceeded to say that he was going on his hour lunch break and that I should call back again then. I tried calling an hour later and still NO ANSWER. My man called Perry's today and the owner answered and was nothing but rude to him and yet again failed to answer a simple question. This man Perry has NO BUSINESS WORKING IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. We will be taking our $$$ elsewhere. His loss, he could've made two sales today and many more future sales. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. In my opinion, you shouldn't work in customer service if you cannot provide service to potential customers. There are plenty of other gun shops with good customer service- this AIN'T the one!!! read more

Perry took advantage of me years ago when I wanted to buy a winchester 1890 like my dad used to have. he told me he had 1 and I went to go see it. I was very unknowledgeable at this time and Perry showed me a winchester that looked ok and I bought it for $1500!! I was stupid. I come to find out that he sold me a mixed serial number receiver/frame for a winchester 1906 that was poorly relined and poorly reblued. the barrel markings were worn and it cycled poorly. he ripped me off and he was rude to me while doing it. Went into the shop, me and my boyfriend were looking for some ammo and a gun for myself. Walking into the shop it was so loud. And then as we got closer to the counter to be helped there were shot glasses lined up down the counter. My boyfriend felt very uncomfortable and berated by the guy. I try not to make things awkward so I laughed along, bought a gun and some ammo and left. Never planned to go back, but my bf has been searching for more ammo and the last few times we have tried calling to check in whether they have what we are looking for they tell us that they do not have time for this, and HANGS UP. This is ur business and you do not have time to answer a simple question for a customer interested in purchasing from u?! Mind you, we do not live in the area it's an hour drive for us. Whose time is really wasted here? Perry answering a simple question on whether he has what we are looking for (which I'm guessing takes one minute at the most) or us driving an hour there and another hour back to find out. I've called a couple times asking if they have specific types of ammo in stock and both times the person who answered the phone couldn't be bothered to check. Does not deserve your business. There are thousands of better online vendors. The guy knows his guns, but do not go here unless you know exactly what you want already, have the money, all identification, etc 100% ready to go. I went to purchase my first firearm after moving here from out of state and he did not explain anything about what identification, forms, etc was required until after I had paid over $800 (which happened within 5 min of walking in) at which point he told me that I had to leave and he couldn't do anything else until I had my CA state ID (US passport was not enough) and said nothing else besides hurry out since there was a long line of customers waiting. I work during pretty much the exact DMV hours and it took me a very long time to get my CA driver's license during the pandemic. Upon finally returning with it, he informed me that my gun had been sold to someone else and that they had called me and tried to contact me. I am required to stay on top of my phone for my job and can say with 100% certainty that I did not receive a single call or text to which he responded with a 15-min rant about how everyone's voicemail boxes are always full (not possible in my case where I never have more than 3-4 voicemail messages). Now he points to a sign that says "All sales are final. No refunds No exceptions." which he conveniently hasn't mentioned until now and assumes that I've read every sign in his shop within seconds of walking in. He blames me for not communicating with him, even though I tried calling several times and never got a hold of anyone with the exception of him answering and telling me he is too busy and I have to come by (which is typically a 15-20 min drive followed by another 15-20 min wait in line which never fits into my schedule). After blaming me repeatedly and insulting other customers without letting me say a word for another 10 min or so, he has the audacity to say, "Sorry bud, I wish I could help." He is impossible to contact without stopping by the store and for some reason is always too busy with business that there is no time ever to help you, yet for some reason he hasn't thought of hiring more employees to help with the workload or help customers since he clearly can't do everything himself very well. Customer service is literally non-existent, he is very rude and condescending, and I feel like this is the experience that the overwhelming majority of customers experience. Do business with at your own risk, but I wish I had done more research before going. read more

Worst experience ever with buying my first gun. Right from the start, it felt awkward. 2 women, 1 white / 1 black walking in and getting nasty glares from other customers. Not Perry's fault though. "It is what it is". Got past that and ordered 2 guns, 1 for each of us. Paid up front, took the test, etc. This was at the end of June. We had to keep calling to get status. Finally, several weeks later we were told one of the guns came in. Both guns came from the same place (3 in total were ordered since that's all they had in inventory and Perry wanted the other one)...but somehow mine "got run over by a forklift" (seriously??? how does 1 gun out of 3 get run over by a forklift - is this some sick joke?). I asked for a refund, but was talked out of it by Perry. He said he had the same gun for another customer who hadn't picked it up yet, so he was going to see if he could relinquish that one to me. He told me to call back the next week. When we called back the next week, the fires had started and he had to evacuate quickly. Fast forward to when he was able to go back in a week later. We called and asked about both guns again. Now my partner had to go through and pay for the background check all over (again, not Perry's fault...it was due to the 20 days expiration from the background check that was unavoidable due to the fires; although telling us to wait a week to see if he could get my gun wasted some of that time); however, when I asked about my gun and if he was able to get the other customer to relinquish it, somehow it was now a new order and the gun was "stuck in a container" somewhere (again, seriously???). I asked for a refund again...but he told me to hold off and check back in when my partners background check was done. Fast forward to that date...(11 days later) we called again and asked about my gun and it was still "maybe in a box in the back" and someone would have to go look for it. At this point, I said we are coming up on our 90 days soon and if I don't have my order by then I won't have any recourse. (Since I had already asked for a refund, I was now looking at disputing this with my bank and I'm well aware that 90 days is the furthest you can go to file this.) Well, Perry didn't like this answer and flew on me. He said I could've asked for a refund...which again, I had already done twice...and did I know that he could be fined due to a chargeback. I did...since I work in ecommerce at a prominent company in the valley. He said he'd refund me and then banned me from ever going into his store again. So yea...that just happened. 90 days later, I have no gun and I'm banned from the store for asking for my money back since I never got my gun..it was either under a forklift or in a container. Either way...the attitude alone is enough for me to not want to go back there ever again anyway. read more

He is only sometimes friendly and helpful if you catch him on a good day and shoot the breeze in his style, but over the phone he can be short with you, unprofessional, and likely to hang up on you without answering your questions if the store is busy. His response to me on the phone has been "come on down and get in line just like everybody else." What's the point of even listing your store's phone number if you cannot be bothered to take 30 seconds to answer a couple of questions? Very rude! This is not a decent way to business. I made the mistake of going there without reading reviews. Perry was extremely rude to me, a little old lady. He made me very uncomfortable just by the way he looked at me up and down. All he wanted to do was rave about Trump and rant about democrats. What store owner with half a brain does that? He literally drove me out of the store. I was disgusted and even afraid of expressing my own thoughts. I had to tell him I did not want to talk politics as he drove me out of the store.
