The woman helping me, Kathleen, was very sweet and I appreciated that she wanted to make sure I was happy before I left the store the second time. My piece wasn't a big-ticket item like their engagement rings or vintage jewelry, but they treated me with respect anyway. My request might have been less expensive at a different store (and they turned down my request to melt down another piece of mine to make a ring, because they don't do that in-house) but their customer service is top notch.

I don't mean to sound cliche but these folks are a diamonds...and not rough ones…read more I needed a same day ring appraisal for 3 rings for insurance purposes and I called 8 other local jewelers before finding Matt and Kaitlyn at the Diamond Room in Austin. It seems to be a common theme in the jewelry industry that there's a traveling appraiser that visits each jeweler only once every month or two so it's difficult to get a same day appointment. The Diamond Room gave me a same day appointment and excellent service in their beautiful and private Austin location. But I have to write this review because they went way beyond what I expected. They gave an excellent appraisal of course but also inspected, cleaned and polished my rings. The Crown Jewel is that they use appraisal software that hooks into the top rated jewelry insurance company and my appraisals were automatically connected and within 24 hours my application for a policy was accepted and my jewelry insured. I had already shopped around and the price I was offered was fantastic. And the best part...wait for it...is that I never have to get appraisals every few years. Now that my jewelry is described and documented in the system the appraisals are automatically updated annually. With the price of gold doing crazy things...this is huge...and it saves me a lot of time, effort and money. I'd say that it will actually pay for itself from this day forward. I set up an appointment, I met with Malcolm and it was the start of a wonderful experience. In our initial conversation, I showed him photos of things I liked and detailed things I disliked. Malcolm started sketching and we talked some more. He had enough information to come up with some concepts and set up a follow up meeting. I returned to look at the concepts and that was when we started collaborating on the design - was thoroughly a fun experience for me. We kept iterating until we finally came up with a final design. Malcolm made sure every detail was addressed wanting to make it perfect. Malcolm kept me informed throughout the process and one day I got an email from Malcolm that the ring was ready. I walked in, she revealed the right, I LOVED the final product. A beautiful ring that I will be happy to wear every day and show off for years to come. I went to Moran for a second offer on the diamonds I was selling, and his offer ended up being 6% higher than the other I received. Not a huge difference, but money is money, and in this case it was a 1k difference. He was quick to respond to my email and accommodated my tight schedule. He had a nice, clean office and made the process very straightforward and low-stress. I mentioned that I wasn't prepared to sell that day, and he didn't pressure me. He explained how his offer was still less than what the stones would be wholesale (and, for that matter, retail), which I already understood, but it was transparent about the process. One thing I particularly appreciate: I wanted to save the setting of a particular ring to use later, and, while he could have removed it himself, he suggested we have a jeweler remove the stone to prevent unnecessary damage to the setting, even though that meant a second appointment for him. Actually, one of the jewelers I stopped at for advice on selling my diamonds (Bjorkheims) set up an appointment for us to meet. But I ended up scheduling my own appointment with him at his office the day before, not realizing he was the same buyer I was set to meet the next day. I mention this because it's worthwhile to know that a respected jeweler with great reviews was recommending him. read more

I made an appointment to see what they would say about my ring. I didn't have to get rid of it but if I could get offered a decent amount I figured why not. As soon as I inquired online the contact that I had with Moran was professional, sincere and comforting. He was always quick to respond to emails. He was extremely accommodating to my schedule and when I could come in. When I arrived for my appointment Moran continued with his professionalism, respect towards me and he was very good about explaining everything to me so I could understand! Even though I made a late in the day appointment he never rushed me once! He wanted to make sure I understood about the diamonds in my ring and all the positive things about them. He explained how he would base his offer and what would effect the offer. He never pressured me into accepting his offer. I did take his offer as it was higher than others that I received. Great experience! I don't really think it gets much better than what just happened. I've sold personal diamonds and jewelry in the past. I've always either had to negotiate heavily or felt insecurity if I was getting the best deal. Knowing diamond brokers only have about 5-8% markup, getting the best deal is...tight anyway. M.I. Trading came highly recommended by two jewelry stores, who could have purchased my diamond, but both ironically said I'd, "be happier with Moran at M.I. Trading.." I went on https://austindiamondbuyer.net , to be sure. Checked bbb.org. Etc...all clear. Moran is pretty much as transparent and knowledgeable as it gets in the diamond biz. Inside a 5-minute discussion, Moran confirmed, not only everything I'd heard from other sources, but I actually I felt like I knew exactly what I could get for this diamond. I was apprehensive about selling two diamond rings, earrings, and a watch even though I had certification on each piece and M. I. Trading had been recommended by a well-established store in Austin that I had used before for Rolex watch repair. I could not speak more highly of Moran Tairy and his company. He was professional and very pleasant. He carefully examined each piece, and explained thoroughly about the process of evaluating the market and determining an appropriate price. I knew that diamonds were not an investment and that a setting appropriate for one person may be disliked by another. Moran was able to give me an offer on the first visit for my diamonds, but wanted an additional week to research the watch as it was more of a "designer piece."
