Last week I went in with a gemstone ring (*not* purchased from Calvins) that I wanted made into a necklace and they were happy to do it for me. I paid for the repair and a gold chain. When I went to pick it up, it was not what I asked for, but when I explained what I had actually wanted and clarified my thoughts, they fixed it for me very quickly. The woman helping me, Kathleen, was very sweet and I appreciated that she wanted to make sure I was happy before I left the store the second time. My piece wasn't a big-ticket item like their engagement rings or vintage jewelry, but they treated me with respect anyway. My request might have been less expensive at a different store (and they turned down my request to melt down another piece of mine to make a ring, because they don't do that in-house) but their customer service is top notch.

I don't mean to sound cliche but these folks are a diamonds...and not rough ones…read more I needed a same day ring appraisal for 3 rings for insurance purposes and I called 8 other local jewelers before finding Matt and Kaitlyn at the Diamond Room in Austin. It seems to be a common theme in the jewelry industry that there's a traveling appraiser that visits each jeweler only once every month or two so it's difficult to get a same day appointment. The Diamond Room gave me a same day appointment and excellent service in their beautiful and private Austin location. But I have to write this review because they went way beyond what I expected. They gave an excellent appraisal of course but also inspected, cleaned and polished my rings. The Crown Jewel is that they use appraisal software that hooks into the top rated jewelry insurance company and my appraisals were automatically connected and within 24 hours my application for a policy was accepted and my jewelry insured. I had already shopped around and the price I was offered was fantastic. And the best part...wait for it...is that I never have to get appraisals every few years. Now that my jewelry is described and documented in the system the appraisals are automatically updated annually. With the price of gold doing crazy things...this is huge...and it saves me a lot of time, effort and money. I'd say that it will actually pay for itself from this day forward. I set up an appointment, I met with Malcolm and it was the start of a wonderful experience. In our initial conversation, I showed him photos of things I liked and detailed things I disliked. Malcolm started sketching and we talked some more. He had enough information to come up with some concepts and set up a follow up meeting. I returned to look at the concepts and that was when we started collaborating on the design - was thoroughly a fun experience for me. We kept iterating until we finally came up with a final design. Malcolm made sure every detail was addressed wanting to make it perfect. Malcolm kept me informed throughout the process and one day I got an email from Malcolm that the ring was ready.
