I don't mean to sound cliche but these folks are a diamonds...and not rough ones. I needed a same day ring appraisal for 3 rings for insurance purposes and I called 8 other local jewelers before finding Matt and Kaitlyn at the Diamond Room in Austin. It seems to be a common theme in the jewelry industry that there's a traveling appraiser that visits each jeweler only once every month or two so it's difficult to get a same day appointment. The Diamond Room gave me a same day appointment and excellent service in their beautiful and private Austin location. But I have to write this review because they went way beyond what I expected. They gave an excellent appraisal of course but also inspected, cleaned and polished my rings. The Crown Jewel is that they use appraisal software that hooks into the top rated jewelry insurance company and my appraisals were automatically connected and within 24 hours my application for a policy was accepted and my jewelry insured. I had already shopped around and the price I was offered was fantastic. And the best part...wait for it...is that I never have to get appraisals every few years. Now that my jewelry is described and documented in the system the appraisals are automatically updated annually. With the price of gold doing crazy things...this is huge...and it saves me a lot of time, effort and money. I'd say that it will actually pay for itself from this day forward. I can't believe I haven't written a review yet!! I've been using Austin Diamond Room for almost 10 years now they're FANTASTIC!!! The team (they've definitely grown!) is amazing and so welcoming for any jewelry needs even down to me buying my watch battery replacement with them I have bought already made jewelry - they have a great show room. I've also created custom jewelry with them. My ex-husband made my engagement ring custom with them secretly. After we were engaged I custom created his wedding band to commemorate his grandfather who had passed away and he wanted his old wedding ring. Matt designed it PERFECTLY I'm now in the process of repurposing some stones from some old jewelry and creating a custom ring! Seriously, if you've never designed your own jewelry I highly recommend it's a blast and so meaningful. WORKING WITH THEM HAS COST ME OVER $120 THOUSAND DOLLARS. Now the owner is holding my pesonal fam personal family heirloom (jewlry) worse almost $20,000 and he refuses to return the items to me unless I pay him $4000 that he has no explanation for why I owe after spending over $120,000 with him on a bunch of useless lab diamonds. This has been an ongoing situ situation for three years now. Basically, you go in there, they serve you a lot of alcohol, pretend to be your new best friends, show you a bunch of beautiful jewelry that one would believe is a real diamond but in all actuality is a lab diamond just as you could order on Amazon. Then, you walk out of there thinking that you got a really good deal, but the truth is you are getting completely ripped off and working with individuals that do not care about you at all, will not accept a return, give you a receipt or any proof of ownership documentation that every customer purchasing a piece of jewelry should be given and legally has the right to obtain from the individual who sold them that jewelry (if for nothing else but insurance purposes). After spending over $120,000 on his lab diamonds that are now worth absolutely nothing. He still has not provided me with any proof of value or any way of me being able to ensure the items. At this point, however, the items areworth so little that it's probably not even worth insuring. He has sent me six or seven different invoices and every invoice has inconsistencies in the dollar amount, the descriptions of the items, the dates, etc. Basically he just makes up numbers and puts them on a piece of paper. The only reason I was even given a receipt a year after purchasing things from him was because I requested one on five separate occasions in an attempt to ensure the pieces of jewelry I believed were worth what I had paid for them. Now, things have gotten much worse He has threatened to sell my family heirlooms belonging to my deceased mother and deceased grandmother that I hired him to work on, and he never even began to work on any of them. The invoice, however, describes each item as being repaired, and goes as far as listing the exact time and date the repair was finished. Remember, however, none of these repairs were even started. He began by claiming I owed him over $6000 and has no idea what it's for. after speaking with his assistant, he dropped the amount to $4000 of which he claims I owe him. Again. For no reason at all. He has sent several emails telling me that he is going to sell my jewelry if I do not pay him immediately and at this point has become completely unresponsive. I fear that he has already sold these very meaningful valuable pieces without telling me. I usually don't post negative reviews, but I'm doing this so that maybe I will help at least one person not experience anything anywhere close to what I have had to go through and continue going through with this crook . Upon further research, I discovered that this has happened with many customers over the years. He has opened several businesses, changed their names and locations, replaced real diamonds with lab grown diamonds without telling customers, and information is a complete con man. Trust me when I say this. Stay as far away from this place as possible. read more

They both helped me learn and grasp what was important and what wasn't. The best part was everything was my choice. Cathedral lift, small studs on the ring band, prongs, and cathedral arch. With a 2.5 CT diamond on top. All of this was still within the budget I had started with. We worked with Daniel from The Austin Diamond Room for our wedding rings and he helped my husband in designing my engagement ring. Daniel was very patient with us being a little indecisive and helped us to come up with gorgeous personalized designs that we could not have gotten anywhere else. My husband was able to special design the band for my engagement ring and then we designed a wedding ring to pair with it that was complimentary but also stood out on its own as well. The CAD renderings that they were able to make made it so easy to give the final approval as it gave such a realistic idea of what the exact ring would look like. It is crazy accurate. We also got hand engraving on my husband's wedding ring, as we wanted it to be special and unique to him. He gets so many compliments on his ring as it is truly a piece of artwork. We visited jewelers in Seattle WA, Tucson AZ, and California before coming to This establishment. The service and options here put each and every other establishment to shame. I was worried we would feel uncomfortable at such a nice place, but our appointment was so fluid and stress free it didn't even feel like we were shopping, it felt like we were hanging out with a friend. At other jewelers I always felt pressured to look at all their options rather than the specific ones I was asking about, some told me to be more "realistic", some made us sit and watch a 20 minute welcome to educate us on diamonds as if we don't have access to Google. The Showroom didn't put us through any of those shenanigans. Every question I asked was answered promptly and directly, our needs were quickly identified and met, and the quality of ring/diamond that we received is so incredible I've had 4 strangers stop me to ask about it and I've only had it 3 days! Quick note: if you are shopping for a wedding ring/jewelry, don't think you can't afford to use a jeweler. That was my first assumption (because I'm just a regular guy), and I'm glad I talked to him and asked anyway. I was referred by a friend of mine that had an amazing experience here, and his referral was excellent. Matt's entire operation is understated, personalized, unique, and exceptional all at once. A quick visit of the website will let you in on the experience he provides, but I want to let you know it's all very true to it's description, and he is very good at educating, creating, and servicing every part of your jewelry experience. I came to Matt about 5 months before I proposed, and after a very short e-mail exchange, we were talking on the phone to make sure it was a good fit. I was after a custom Ring design, but I didn't know if my 'budget' fit into his typical service floor as I'm just a regular guy (and custom jewelry sounds VERY expensive to me!). The next thing I know I was up at his office, having a one on one 'Diamonds 101' class with him, where he let me choose how much I wanted to know or see (because once you see the flaws using the tools? It's hard to go back!). Once I was educated, I came back at another time with a better defined budget, and ready to look at Diamonds. I came very close to purchasing one that day, but was assured that there would be more in his inventory next time i came up ( a month later). A Month later, after much deliberation and 45 minutes of looking? I had the perfect stone. I will say it was a daunting task, but Matt never once pulled the old salesman tactic of 'Well... Im not supposed to show you this but...', and kept every offering within my range ceiling and floor. He isn't the kind of guy who's pushing you outside your comfort zone, and that is huge for me on a purchase this size. Once the Diamond was selected? We discussed ring design where I sketched numerous rings over and over til I found one or two I really felt good and E-mailed them to him. He created some renderings, and we back and forthed several times to make it PERFECT. After selecting the design, he provided me the cost in both White Gold and Platinum, advised me on the pros and cons, and let me think on it for a few days. My final meeting with Matt before my proposal was to pick up the finished design, and to finish payment. The design was exactly as he had drawn it, and our short meeting was quick and ended with 'good luck!'. All in all? Matt and I have over 50 e-mails back and forth, dozens and dozens of text messages, and met 5 times (mostly outside of regular business hours or on weekends) to make sure everything was perfect. His level of customer service and satisfaction is exactly what I wanted, and Dollar for quality, I don't think you can find anyone else like him. He's very good at what he does, and it's why we'll go back to him for our wedding bands, future custom work, and more. read more

Don't let the "By Appointment Only" scare you out of going to these guys. They are NOT over priced and they are NOT out of your budget. I worked with Matt and he made buying an engagement ring pretty easy! He listened to all my rambling and babbling about what I thought my now fiancé would like and helped me put together a stunning engagement ring. I didn't just look at a bunch cookie cutter rings. I got to touch and see several diamonds and then pick the one I liked best for the center stone. Then he explained to me the color and clarity of the diamond I choose and why it was priced the way it was priced and made sure I was happy with it. I brought a diamond in over 2 years ago & put it on consignment. I was told that because of the size & clarity that it would sell in no time. That hasn't been the case at all. My efforts to reach out sometimes also went unanswered. Yesterday, I tried again & informed Matt Odesky that I'd be picking up my diamond. Still nothing, so I tried calling again. Scheduled an appointment the following day for noon, rearranged my schedule a bit. Less than 20 minutes after, I was called by a young lady in his office asking if I could push my appointment time back because Matt wanted to purchase my diamond- the same diamond that has been on consignment for over 2 years. I decline & state that I'd be arriving at noon due to the scheduling changes I had already made. I arrive at 2 but Matt isn't there. A different young lady let's me in & she walks me inside. I have all paperwork from AGS, the jeweler the diamond was purchased from as well as the consignment paperwork. I insist on verifying the inscription number before leaving to ensure that I'm leaving with my diamond. She carefully unwraps a diamond- which has my name on the wrapping. We sit there for a good 20 minutes looking for the inscription number but it was no where to be found. This diamond also looked nothing like the diamond I brought in. She then says that she saw him handling another diamond (which had been put in an earring setting), which we begin to examine. Did I mention the 3,500 offer/check that had been printed out for me?? This diamond would retail for well over 12k... I put my diamond (1.22ct H VS2) on consignment for no lower than 6,500- which is very low considering its quality. I decide to wait for Matt to clear things up. I didn't want to leave with the wrong diamond then be accused of switching them out. Matt finally arrives, looks at the first diamond, he finds no inscription..then he checks the diamond that was placed in the earring setting. Turns out, the diamond in the earring setting was mine! Also looked like this earring had recently been worn. He told me he put it in this setting in order to sell it. This was extremely shady in my opinion. Had I not been vigilant about making sure verified my inscription number, I would've left with a much lower quality diamond that didnt belong to me. There's also the fact that he tried to give me the an incredibly insulting offer for my beautiful diamond. He apologized, I left. I would in no way recommend this broker to anyone. If you go to him, make sure you have your paperwork also make sure that you verify the inscription numbers on your diamond. This is not how business should be done. Highly disappointed, not to mention disgusted & I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone. 1 star is entirely too generous for Austin Diamond Room...dishonest!! read more

I offered this same review on Google but thought they were deserving of praise in multiple locations. Purchasing an engagement ring was certainly a daunting experience, but Matt and Sheldon were outstanding. I went to a number of retail stores and compared prices with a broker out of New York that a family member had used, and Austin Diamond offered the best price and the best service of all that I spoke with (including the dealer from the famed "Diamond District"). They took the time to find out about my fiancé and I prior to discussing purchases, and took a lot of time to educate me about all that was involved (5 or 6 visits over a few months). I was specifically looking for information about GIA and EGL certifications, and at every turn they made sure I knew they would pursue whatever avenue, stone, metal or setting I wanted. They had opinions but didn't manipulate, were responsive and flexible, and brought stones in overnight for me when they saw I clearly wasn't "wowed" by the current selection. Overall the process was as smooth and painless as it could have been, and the end result was EASILY the best part: a gorgeous ring custom made for my fiancé. She absolutely adores it, and has received compliments daily since we were engaged. I am a business school student and a skeptic by nature, so the best praise I can actually give to them for those reading this is candid assurance that I will absolutely be doing more business with them in the future based on this experience. read more

My issue is that he said he had a friend that does engagement photos and since I purchased my ring through him that she would provide a free photo shoot. It has now been over 3 months of trying to get a hold of her to set something up. I have also spent that much time trying to get a hold of Matt. First off, let me say that I was extremely skeptical about the "by appointment only" service, but I was willing to give things a try because I wanted some one on one service in more of a private setting. During our first meeting, Matt took the time to figure out what I wanted, explain in great detail all of the subtleties of buying diamonds and what to look for, and made the process very comfortable. Most important of all, he did not introduce an ounce of pressure into the situation. After getting an idea of what I was looking for, Matt ordered a few new diamonds that fit my budget/style/etc and we sat down for a second meeting. He set time aside (nearly two hours) to allow me to agonize over 3 nearly identical diamonds and offered support and patience in my decision. Not once was I rushed or pressured. He has stayed in touch with me every step of the way to ensure that not just the ring, but the proposal and all other aspects of my plan were going well. Was able to custom make it. Told me the ring would be available in 3-4 weeks...took 6-7 weeks. Which of course threw off the engagement. This place is ran out of a room in the Bank of America building off of MoPac and 2222. Because it is small they are not very good at being available. They talk about coming to your business, house etc.. if you need something. However, when I called to get my wife's ring re-sized they could not meet me at their business and the only time they could meet my wife was at odd hours at her work (Dell). I never write reviews, but I have to for this because my experience here was MISERABLE. First off, you'll notice that the vast majority of the really high end reviews here are from first time buyers. That might seem comforting if you're a first time buyer too, but it really means that most reviewers have no other experience to benchmark against. I've sat in Matt's waiting room and listened to him ask obviously inexperienced buyers to post glowing reviews about them, and I have to say it was disheartening. Having worked with Kruger's downtown and jewelry stores back up near NYC, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I'm telling everyone I know not to go here - while I really liked the people who work here, the facts of my experience overall were definitely a cautionary tale. As for my story: my engagement ring buying here started off great (or so I thought), but when I got the finished product (after a series of delays), the center stone had been improperly set. I brought it to two different jewelers and they both said they thought the center stone was cracked when it was set. Thankfully I had insurance, because Matt completely refused to consider his jeweler broke the stone, which isn't even that unheard of. Worse still, instead of getting the platinum setting I paid for, I was given a white gold setting. Huge mistake, and having felt the difference with platinum, one that no jeweler should have made. I'm still not entirely convinced this was an "honest mistake," but even if it was, it begs the question of what added value a small vendor actually provides. Getting the new ring cast took forever, and by the time the center stone was replaced and the new ring cast, my fiancee had been without her ring for 3 MONTHS. After all this, when I FINALLY got the ring back again, the center stone was badly crooked and had to be fixed (again). They went through a bunch of motions to "solve the problems" but honestly, I never should have had all these problems to begin with and wouldn't have at a better jeweler. If you're shopping for an engagement ring: get educated, shop around, and AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

Emailed Matt inquiring about services and stone availability, two weeks later no response. Decided to stop by and ask in person. Matt said on Friday 12/8, "I'll get back to you on Monday 11th." Today is Tuesday, 12/12 still no response. Judging by the old tiny leased office, lack of customer service, I'll be gladly taking my business elsewhere to an established, reputable business, even if its higher in cost. Been on the hunt for the right ring for a while now and met with a ton of Austin jewelers. No one came close to Matt's knowledge, expertise, communication, and overall demeanor. He demonstrates a level of respect, even to a first time buyer, that is unheard of this business. His extremely straight forward no pressure approach is refreshing. He will fight to get you the best deal for you but, more importantly, awill make sure you you're educated about what you're buying. 6 years ago Matt and Sheldon stole A LOT of jewelry from me. I brought a LOT of my son's jewelry to be appraised. Matt & Sheldon talked me out of a whole lot of it. I was very loopy because I was on a lot of medication because my 34 year old son had just died of a heart attack. Besides all of that jewelry they stole my bracelet (one of a kind). They did nothing but lie to me. They never weighed the gold, they just took it and told me a small price. I have a police report on them for this. I was invited to attend a Tesla test drive event at the Austin Diamond Room where Matt O'Desky had a stunning selection of settings available. They were not just the cookie-cutter options that you find at the mall stores, but an ACTUAL selection of styles. My wife found one that she fell in love with (and I fell in love with the sale price on it!). We continued to mingle at the event and I took Matt aside and told him I wanted to purchase that setting but wanted to surprise my wife. He took extra care in taking payment and returning my credit card secretly to preserve the surprise. He then offered to clean my wife's current ring and told her that the diamond was loose and he would get it fixed for her over the next few days (so we could get the diamond placed in the new setting). I presented it to her today and she was so surprised and happy that she even teared up a bit. I love my engagement ring and wedding band from Austin Diamond District! The first time my fiance and I met with Matt, he explained how diamonds are graded in thorough detail and took time to answer all of our questions. The one-on-one experience is very different from what you find at many other jewelers, and we loved that. I did have to get my engagement ring resized, but the end result was the "ring of my dreams". I purchased my engagement ring there and had no complaints and and then asked if I could give them some of my jewelry to list on consignment, they said they were going to set up an online consignment link on their website, well that was over two years ago and my jewelry still hasn't been put on their website. I made four calls asking to pick up my jewelry and confirmed they actually had it, well my co-worker went to go retrieve his ring and they informed him that they could not locate my jewelry. I called their office and of course no one answered and so I left a message, will see how long it takes them to call me back. Will be filing a police report in the next few days. My co-worker actually had a worse situation, which made me go and get my ring that I purchased from them appraised and it is a real diamond, but the jeweler who did my appraisal informed me that he had heard several bad stories about the Austin Diamond District.
