I went to M Vista with my husband for a special evening of dining. The atmosphere in the beginning was wonderful as was the decor and wait staff. The food was okay, but what ruined the evening and hense the reason for the one star rating is due to the fact that the owner ruined the atmosphere by yelling and verbally abusing one of her wait staff for all to hear! First of all, she should have taken her aside to talk to her, and secondly NO ONE should be verbally abused by ANY ONE! Needless to say, my husband and I will never return to M Vista again because of how the owner treats her employees. read more

Really slow service, our little waiter couldn't keep a drink refilled to save his life. One meal came out early but the next meal come out about 30 minutes later after everyone else was done eating. I have been eating at Michelle Wang's restaurants since her simple Main St location opened in 1997. Though I don't eat much sushi, I've never had a dish that wasn't good to excellent. There are a half dozen locations in metro Columbia, including MIYO's. I've noticed several negative comments about the 'too-large' menu, probably referring to a now-gone 'book' of numerous pages, which I also found to be much too cumbersome. But this has been replaced by a concise front/back menu, refined like the selection of dishes, over the years. M Vista is definitely for the discerning palate. I consider this to be Columbia's finest Asian restaurant, with all other locations close behind. The Thai Basil dishes are my favorites, especially with shrimp. The Singapore Rice Noodles are to die for, just the right amount of curry. One can find this quality of food only in much larger cities, and I date Columbia's 'foodie' renaissance as BM or AM [before/after Miyo's] :) Did I say no MSG...ever. Originally from Cola & use to get a split orange beef/chicken dish all the time - servers never had a problem with it. One day, the owner took my order & she refused to split it - said it couldn't be done. It would upset the balance of the universe on some quantum physics level or whatever...fair enough, it wasn't on the menu, so I chose not to be a diva about it. FFD 12years and we are here to meet friends. I had the flounder, which was great. Service was very good & we tipped him 20%. M Vista is the culmination of years of improvement, work, and smart decisions. The menu is lengthy without having too many choices. Lots of teas and beverages for your pleasure. Our table had an assortment of entrees and appetizers that ran the gamut. Quick service. Pleasant surroundings. The fresh, healthy dishes pleased everyone. I travel frequently for business and have to admit don't expect much from restaurants. M Vista MORE than delivered. The food was TERRIFIC, fresh and delicious. I have been twice and had different sushi both time but very much enjoyed it as well as the ambience. The decor is wonderful and the wait staff was terrific, very personable and information. This place never fails me. Whenever I come back to visit Columbia, I choose this place or Miyo's. I can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Whether it is the Singapore Style Rice Noodles or the Deluxe Noodle Soup. The portions are always a nice size and delicious. Fast and friendly staff! I really hate to need to write a negative review--I've been a long lover of all the Miyos locations. Here's why it's negative... Our dinners came out with our appetizers and before our soup and salad. Our drinks didn't come out at all. The waiter should have known better than to bring the food all together but apparently he didn't. I had to ask the waiter (when he finally came back) if he could take our food back and put it somewhere to stay warm while we enjoyed our appetizer and our hopefully soon to come soup. He said there was no such place and he couldn't. We got the manager and the manager (who could care less that we had this bad service) didn't even listen to our complaint. He took the food back and said as he was walking away that they would just remake it. By this point we weren't interested in staying--we told him not to bother. The manager didn't apologize or offer for us to not pay for the appetizer (the only food we had the displeasure of consuming) Ugh. read more

We ordered through the phone with the online menu. We got tempura shrimp and 2 maki sushi lunches- one jack and one spicy salmon along with one California and one spicy salmon. The Jack roll (crab and shrimp) was just crab, absolutely no shrimp. Both of the spicy salmon were good but not great, almost the same as a grocery store. The shrimp tempura- absolutely gross, we have ordered this many times before here and it always comes super crunchy and a little golden with a sauce and tastes so flavorful... this time they were soggy, pale and no sauce was given. To combat the sogginess I threw them in the air fryer to possibly make them better since they were so bad and it did nothing. This isn't the first time they have forgotten something either. Online their menu states that all lunch sushi combos come with salad, miso soup and rice- no they don't. The ginger dressing isn't a typical dressing, it tastes like peanuts too. I can only comment on the sushi. I ordered their special, red devil, and was very disappointed. The fish on the outside of the roll, salmon and tuna, had no texture and were at room tempature. Two major signs of old fish and incorrect storage. I am hoping to enjoy the rest of my evening and not have to hug a toilet later. I did not partake in their wok menu but I would recommend it over the sushi anyway. Not a deal breaker but they have the wine selection of an olive garden, minus the sangria. The Angry Dragon rolls were amazing. They're a loaded roll - I do mean they have everything. My dinner companion ordered the M Cafe, and they were good but not outstanding. I love the fact that M Vista has roll and drink specials, and we ordered both. We were there on a Wednesday night, and it was pretty quiet in the place, yet our server was missing in action almost the entire time. I think M Vista has a good thing going, and I'll give them another chance to see if the service improves because the food was so good. Great Asian Fusion Food! The restaurant is very nice. The decor is modern and stylish, feels like you could be in LA or New York... Kudos to Cola! A nice causal, relaxed place to be! The menu is very extensive- about 30 pages or so...if you love food with an Asian flare, you have to give this place a try! Very extensive sushi and sashimi selections. Soups, salads, cold appetizers, warm appetizers, meat and fish, and a large selection of vegan dishes. The list goes on and on...The only draw back to the extensive menu is the lack of time to read through the thing before the server asks you what you would like~ My wife said she felt a bit rushed... The food is fresh and delicious! We started with an order of sushi- very fresh with a nice presentation. The main course consisted of pan seared duck breast, served with a hoisin red wine sauce, spinach, sauteed in a light garlic sauce, and an order of brown rice. We ended our meal with a black berry Cabernet sorbet that was smooth, cool, and oh so good! Overall it's a very nice place, the experience was very enjoyable! read more

My wife and I have enjoyed all the Myos and M Cafe restaurents, but we view this location as the "flagship" and a great place for a date night. Ambiance is "chill" with a good balance of the bar and the ating areas that surround it. Food is the best asian fusion in the Midlands. Service has always been good. This is my favorite of the M series of restaurants. Each of them are all a bit different but this one seems to have to biggest sushi selection. I really like the decor and the fact that they have a private room. We have requested the room for big groups and it's nice to feel like your hidden away. I must say the service is always on point too. The crab wontons are to die for, as well as the lettuce wraps and curry potstickers as far as apps go. Try the apple and shrimp salad for something unique and fresh to start with. It's topped with roe, yum! If I end up at M Vista and I'm starving I usually flip to the back where the "make your own" dishes are and load up on veggies. I like the curry sauce. I also recently tried the Singapore noodle dish which is a huge portions of veggies, shrimp and chicken, yum! Same goes for their fried rice dishes, huge portions! Got takeout tonight and it was pretty bad. I waited a long time inside even though they said it was only a piece of cake they were waiting on. When we got home, we realized they didn't give us the mu shu pancakes. Worse, the mu shu was HORRIBLE. The meat tastes rancid and was inedible. The Pad Thai was incredibly bland and I'm not sure what about it resembled Pad Thai at all. No bean sprouts or veggies, just oily flavored noodles and dry lukewarm chicken. I called and they refunded the mu shu but refused to refund the pad Thai. A partial refund really didn't help matters as dinner was ruined. A bad experience for sure. read more

Food wise - I am writing this based on my other experiences at M Vista. I usually get the Maestro Chicken, but decided to try something different - Chicken Pad Thai. I had noticed on the menu they use fish sauce of some sort and had asked the waiter if it could be left off. He mentioned that is what dish is cooked in and I might want to leave as is - which I did. Worst Chicken Pad Thai I have ever had (stick with true Thai places for Thai dishes). Like the design of this location. There is a room for a large group of people. I've been coming here for a few years and unfortunately the quality of the food and service has really decreased. I've always been loyal to this place so I've continued to periodically go back and try but have since decided it's just no longer worth it. I ordered take out recently and when I called they said they weren't accepting orders for the next 45 minutes because the kitchen was so backed up. I called back later and was eventually able to order, only after speaking to the incredibly rude person working behind the bar. When I got there to pick up the food no one said hello, I just stood there and was eventually handed my to go back. There was hardly anyone there-not sure where the rudeness was coming from! The food was decent as well as the service but serious issues with overall cleanliness that would have us reluctant to take and roll the dice with our health again. Visited on a holiday which resulted in a clearly low business volume and the overall mess of this place cannot be blamed on being busy. You'll notice the floors as soon as you walk/slide into the restaurant. At some point, floors should get the love of a little degreaser or even a mop. Unless the ambience is to include the feel of ice skating sans skates, this is a bit much. After ordering and taking a restroom visit, you'll appreciate that the restrooms certainly didn't see a mop last night or this morning either. The short walk feels less like you are walking through a restaurant and more like you are walking through a storeroom. Boxes plates and miscellaneous dishes are strewn about....either shamefully sloppy or a weird Asian/too cool to care about appearances fusion. The little things....we spent about $75 on a lunch for two adults and a child. You would think with some level of money coming in the door, you could change your soy containers once in a while. Absolutely repulsive that a restaurant would choose to refill a cheap soy container over and over (and apparently over and over and over again) before changing the bottle. Same for the salt and pepper shakers...and least use a filthy rag to wipe them off and at least pretend to care. Noted the prep crew doing something with a box of beans while sipping on drinks and playing on their phones which they likely just took to the bathroom with them to research restaurant cleanliness ideas while sitting on the pot. Overall food...decent...cleanliness of restaurant...nasty. Likely an ownership/management issue as someone is clearly asleep at the wheel. If management doesn't care about the basic, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the staff doesn't either. read more

Warning to all vegetarians or vegans and anyone with a food allergy! Anything this restaurant fries in oil, is fried in one pot of oil, which they use to fry everything! So your vegetarian spring rolls are fried in the same oil as the fried calamari. This is a HUGE risk for anyone with a health concern. In fact, it could cause death to anyone with a severe allergy. When I brought it up to the waiter because I do have a allergy, he didn't seem all that concerned. My suggestion is that if you go to this restaurant, that you ask lots of questions when ordering. read more

M Vista is one if my top go-to's in Columbia! I love the variety of the menu - they have great appetizers (I recommend the chicken lettuce wraps), sushi (godzilla all the way), and loads of entrees. My favorites here are the Carolina Fried Rice and the Hong Kong! Both are fantastic and incredibly tasty. They also have a bar and a large room for extended parties. read more

I really love the food, but The sanitation is lacking. I ordered takeout 3 weeks ago, just to get home and find a black hair in my rice. Okay, accidents happen so I went back and was eating their yesterday. When my sushi came out, there was a black hair on it as well!!!! Twice in a month is just too much. Because if it is happening to me, it is happening to everyone else! I will never return. This is a simple fix and should not be happening.
