Tsunami Vista has been one of my longtime Columbia favorites--especially as a UofSC alumni, we spent alot of time here in my college days. So when I had the chance to stop by during my work trip to catch their happy hour, I couldn't say no! I went straight for my usual; the 3-roll special for $13.95 and I went with the Philly Roll, Crab Crunch Roll, and Charleston Roll (with extra ginger and eel sauce on the side, of course). The food was good. Not really anything special but not awful. I felt like I got my moneys worth but the reviews were so good I was expecting the best sushi ever! I got the sashimi plate that had a whole lot of cucumbers. The miso soup was 10/10. My husband got surf and turf hibachi and he enjoyed it. We went during happy hour so the drinks were cheap and our service was really good! Decided to try an ole staple in the Vista tonight, Ive tried Tsunami back in 2017 and the service was so horrble we left without ordering. Well today was a new day and they redeemed themselves. Customer was excellent and the bar service was fast. Happy hour is from 4-6p, the drinks where way to sweet for me. I had the Georgia Peach. The food was fresh and portion size was good for two people. We enjoyed all the food and are glad we gave them a second chance some years later. I ordered the tuna delight roll($13) and steak and scallop hibachi($25). The tuna roll was great, but was absolutely drenched in sweet chili sauce. Definitely overpowering but it still tasted good. The ginger salad sauce was quite watery instead of a thicker sauce. The hibachi was cooked in the back so there was not a show, but the food ended up tasting good. The steak was cooked to a good medium, while the scallops were a bit overcooked. A good amount of fried rice and vegetables that were seasoned well. The yum yum sauce was good. Staff was friendly. i went to tsunami vista during their happy hour and ordered a cheap drink, which tasted like watermelon candy. we were greeted & seated promptly upon arrival and the waiters were very friendly. i ordered the vegetable spring rolls and a cucumber roll. the vegetable spring rolls were standard and came with a cabbage slaw of some kind with a sesame dressing which was pretty good. the cucumber roll was inside out, which is not standard, but i prefer it that way. definitely good (and cheap) but nothing that stands out. read more

Dinner on 6/1, the drinks and bar tender excellent. Customer service was terrible. I was with a larger party and waitress could not keep up. I never got to order because she skipped me, never came back to refill my soda, never made room and got the extra plates and etc from the others that I was with. Been here a couple of times & it never disappoints!!! Big, very steady with patrons & in this college town (USC Gamecocks) the happy hour from 4-7 pm is pretty good!!! So many choices & the menu is beyond creative! EVERYTHING IS FRESH!!!!!!! I crave this place & I live in Georgia! She suggested the sexy roll because I'm a fan of cooked sushi but I wanted to go a little outside of the box and this roll implemented raw tuna. When I tell you the roll was sexy and delicious! Listen, I do not need the fanciest place for happy hour. I need THIS SPECIFIC PLACE. My friend and I go to happy hour here ever so often. The prices are great and it's so good. I love the happy hour drinks and they have well drinks for $3.00. It's always quite busy, and sometimes the service can be a bit iffy, and it could be cleaned a little better. HOWEVER, the food is always quick, and yummy. If you're into ginger and wasabi, sometimes you have to ask for it, but they bring it right out. Be prepared to walk because the parking lot gets filled up pretty quick. I always try a different random roll. Love the ones with eel sauce and I got the sexy roll last time and it was....well, sexy. This restaurant had a nice modern feel to it. A big bar once you walk in with a sushi bar to the right and tables to the left. Most of the workers seemed like they were students at USC or just very young. Service was pretty slow despite it not being busy. The restaurant has a great location in the Vista Shopping Center which is a lively and energetic place to be at night. The place has kind of dim lighting which gives off a relaxed vibe but we did go earlier in the day. They seemed to have a variety of sushi rolls but we opted for their "happy hour" special where between 4pm-7pm, 3 rolls of sushi are about 12 dollars. I opted for a combination of the Charleston, Crab Crunch, and Spicy Tuna. All of the rolls were amazing as they were filled with fresh ingredients and portioned generously. The rolls filled me up and I even some leftover to-go. My favorite was the Crab Crunch so I definitely recommend trying that out. Tsunami offers a great happy hour menu and their prices are pretty good! The total Bill ended up being $30.20 and that includes 2 beers as well as 2 cocktails. I ordered the Shumai and 3 sushi rolls for $10.95 which were apart of the happy hour special! I chose the California, Crab Crunch and Philly rolls... pretty basic but delicious and fresh! The restaurants ambiance was nice enough to have a date there. Also the place was clean and the seating was spacious enough to social distance. I will begin with they have very clean bathrooms. The ambience was very nice, including the lighting, seating, music and decor. I will say the pricing is not that bad and correlates with the quantity of the food. The quality of the food was just perfect for myself and my boyfriend. The leftovers fit into two to go boxes. We were able to pack several sauce containers with lids that came with our meal (soy sauce, white sauce, and spicy mayo sauce) in our to go boxes as well. My boyfriend did say that the flavored mago sake was not as strong as he would have expected from our other previous Japanese restaurant experiences; he may order plain sake next time we eat there. Tsunami has a killer happy hour, and thats why my friends I went there. $11 for teriyaki chicken, hibachi veggies, and rice, cheap appetizers, and the main reason we went....half off hot sake! Sadly, the sake is really hit or miss. Usually after a couple of large sakes, you start feelin' it. But this last time we went, the sake was painfully obviously watered down. It tasted a little off and my friends and I had tabs well over $100 that consisted mostly of sake, and it didn't even take the edge off of a rough day. As you can see from my pictures...we had a ton of sake for three people. And that was after a round of carafes had been cleared from our table. Another friend of ours was at Tsunami the night before us and he thought the exact same thing. Our waitress was great, the food was good, but the sake was a real bummer. I wouldn't be against returning, but I'm not gunning to go because it sucks to feel so ripped off. I'd rather support another establishment that doesn't water down their drinks. read more

Food was excellent. I had the hibachi steak which came with vegetables and steamed or fried rice. The steak was a decent portion about 6 oz with some mushrooms cooked in. The vegetables were good and the steamed rice was as you'd expect. In our party, we also had The Duffy Rolls which my son loved and Noodles with chicken, which my girlfriend enjoyed. Unfortunately, my first yelp review is not the positive one I was hoping to be making. As someone who is a frequent attendee here and also works in the service industry, I would never have believed the way I would be spoken to over the phone today. When calling to place an order I politely asked if they were willing/able to walk across to street to drop it off at my place of work. I understand that employees are not allowed to exit the premises during a shift, but it was worth the shot to ask. The response I received was so beyond rude I was genuinely shocked. Subsequently, the boy who took my order (America as said on my receipt) continued with his rude way of speaking when going through my order. I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. 15 minutes later I send someone to pick up the order. He comes back to say "they said another 15 minutes". So I wait, and ANOTHER 15 minutes later I go inside to pickup the order where one of the three people at the front tell me it's not ready yet, to which I reply "you're kidding me!" and receive the response "no". No apologies, no explanation why just "no". When peering into the restaurant's sitting area it was not completely full nor did they look especially busy. I then had to ASK to at least pay while I waited. While I'm waiting bags of food get placed on the counter and after a full 5 minutes of it sitting there in front of me I finally get told "that's yours." I asked to speak to a manager and the kid pointed at the manager who was on the phone, there was zero recognition of me even saying that in front of her and zero acknowledgement of my presence in front of her. I walked out. The only reason I am not giving a singular star is because the food was actually good. I would never have though I would truly intend to never come back to a place after an experience like this and yet, here we are. I will not be dining here again. read more

Whilst hecking around in Columbia, I realized that I really wanted good hibachi. Well, I certainly found... Tsunami. I was hoping for dinner and a show. You won't find that at Tsunami Vista. No big deal of course. Friend and I ordered a sushi to share and two steak hibachis. Hibachi entrees come with soup or salad and rice. Prices seem roughly fair. The best thing about the hibachi is the portioning. The worst thing is everything else. The meal wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't memorable at all. This is very average hibachi and a perfect example of a 3-star Yelp restaurant. The sushi didn't arrive until the absolute end. I was too stuffed to try any at that point. Tsunami Vista isn't a bad restaurant. I wish I had more to say about it than that. read more
