I've cycled a lot around Point Reyes and taken many one-day road trips, but I've never really…read moreexplored the area extensively due to a lack of time. That recently changed thanks to the recent overnight accommodations provided by the Black Heron Inn. Located in Point Reyes Station, about a 5-minute drive from downtown, it's the perfect place to stay when exploring Point Reyes. I had done quite a bit of research on accommodations in the area, but the options seemed to either be way too expensive or way too "patchouli" for my taste. The Black Heron Inn was the perfect fit for me and my wife. They have three guest rooms, and due to the lack of availability of the other rooms, I selected the Grand View Suite. And what a "Grand View" it was. My strong suggestion is not to plan too much during the late afternoon because you'll want to open a bottle of wine and enjoy the view from the outdoor deck or the dining room table before heading off to dinner for some oysters. The clean and well appointed rooms have a small refrigerator, a small microwave, and a toaster as well as dishes and silverware, so make sure to bring some ready to eat food with you to store in the room since food is not provided. We personally picked up some breakfast savories and sweets from Brickmaiden Breads, and our mornings were set. Coffee is provided along with a Cuisinart Coffee maker. If you don't like your coffee black or enjoy creamers, be sure to pack some milk for the fridge. The proprietors are pretty hands-off when it comes to guest interaction (which is just fine), but they are very responsive if necessary. One thing I did learn while talking to them briefly was that they have a lot of repeat customers. Based on our recent stay, I can see why!

We recently stayed in the Grand View Suite and sent an email to the innkeepers at…read morestay@blackheroninn.com to provide some feedback. The email bounced because the mailbox was full, so we're posting the email we sent to Yelp. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Positives: * Quiet and peaceful. * Very nice view. * Useful kitchenette items: plates, cutlery, microwave, coffee maker (with Peet's coffee!), etc. Improvement suggestions: * The windows need washing, especially in the dining area. The view is one of the main attractions of your property, and it's a shame (and disappointing) to look through dirty windows. * There are cobwebs in areas in the room (example: next to the book case in the dining area), and outside on the deck and deck chairs. In fact, the Adirondack chairs on the deck were so dirty we didn't want to sit on them. * The room lighting is a mish-mash of incandescent, CFL, and LED, with different color temperatures. Suggest redoing the lighting with LED lights in the 3000 (warm light) color temperature. Also, the low-voltage puck lights in the soffit above the kitchen counter don't work. At least, we couldn't find a switch to turn them on. Fixing this would brighten up the kitchenette. * The handle on the right-side loft window is incapable of opening the window. (There's a small set screw meant to secure the handle to the window winding mechanism's shaft, and the screw is loose so the handle just spins on the shaft so the window doesn't open.) * The cushioning in the two table chairs in the dining area and the two reclining chairs in the living area is worn and compressed, so the cushioning is marginal. The chairs need to be reupholstered or replaced; they're basically worn out. Making these improvements would elevate the room from just okay to very good and make the relatively high room rate more reasonable.

Without looking at Yelp, I was told that hotels and motels were limited in the area and fill up quickly on weekends. On a gamble, I was able to book reservations for Thursday through Sunday stay the Tomales Hotel, the little town of Tamales To my surprise, there are no lobby and individuals in charge. You provided a code via email or phone, and different code for your room. These locks are touchy and nothing like the run of the mill combination locks. I was able, per one of the housekeepers who let me in a few hours before check in. There were three (3) house keepers who were unbelievably kind and running ata hundred miles an hour. This hotel has been remodeled that would make any proud. Clean neat as pin. Roomy, and all the pillows you could want and mattress to die for. Absolutely Awesome place. Bob - Sacramento, CA

The innkeeper, Bob, greeted us in person when we arrived around 11:30pm; He personally showed us to our room and calmly described how ordering breakfast worked, gave us wifi credentials, and then let us relax. If you're looking for upscale luxury, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for an exceptionally clean, cozy, and well run B&B than look no further. You're staying in a tranquil, untroubled place that persuades you to decompress and clear your mind. Notable Amenities: - WiFi - Feminine products in the bathroom - Novels and light music - Fireplace - Continental breakfast - Binoculars - Hiking backpack - Mini refrigerator What is provided to you promotes relaxation and exploring your surroundings. We spent our mornings in the room eating breakfast, listening to Claude Debussy and watching the mist clear over the bay. We then headed out to go kayaking all day, had oysters and champagne for dinner, then retreated back to the B&B to cozy up in front of the fire. *Note About Breakfast* Breakfast is brought to your room and includes the following: tea, orange juice, and an assortment of breads (blueberry, coffee, pumpkin, poppyseed, etc.) *Note About Your Surroundings* You are near a few restaurants, and a light breakfast is provided, otherwise not much is around. I would suggest bringing some fruits/veggies and other light snacks when you are out during the day.

It looks like they've put a lot of effort into renovating and updating the property, and it really shows. Our cottage was very clean, comfortable, and felt newly refreshed. One feature we especially loved was that both bedrooms had doors leading out to the private backyard patio, which made the space feel open and relaxing. The only minor drawback was the living room furniture layout. It wasn't ideal for watching TV, but we simply moved the couch back a bit and rearranged the chairs, which solved the problem. A loveseat would make the space even more comfortable. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating. They took the time to show us other rooms on the property and made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. The new restaurant wasn't open during our visit, but it's a great addition and gives us another reason to come back. Just a quick 20 drive to the Point Reyes Beaches. If you're looking for a peaceful place just steps from the beautiful waters of Tomales Bay, with kayak rentals right on the property, I highly recommend Tomales Bay Resort & Marina. It's truly a hidden gem.

They did forget coffee pods the first and did not replace the duralog the second, but would I stay here again, not so sure. You had to pay for the second log and there was never anyone there to buy it from. We ate at the restaurant. My Martini was perfect, but my husband did not like his hamburger. The oysters were fabulous and my salad was a salad. The cookie with ice cream = not so great. The cookie was way over cooked (hard) but our cute waitress did not charge us for it. The restaurant was busy and crowded and LOUD! I was not impressed. It was a great view and our waitress was wonderful and very attentive, but they need to work on a food!

We stayed here last night, and again tonight. 2 nights is NOT enough. I want to live here. I cannot wait to return. This is such an amazing gem, that I am hesitant to yelp about it, for fear it will be too hard to book in the future. However, I did find this place through yelp, and will return the favor to others. If you are looking for a place to book in Inverness or Point Reyes, you MUST book this place. It was worth every single penny. This cottage is in the middle of an enchanted forest, and I never want to leave! The owner, Wendy is so sweet, and communication was great. It was a breeze to book it. This morning, while I sipped my coffee on the gorgeous deck, I was half expecting a fairy to come say hi.

You know how it is when you are in charge of a big group's plan, this was the least thing I wanted to worry about and the most important! where to spend the night on that Saturday. But, then...when we arrived late on Saturday night, spent the night and then the morning of Sunday, we wished we would have arrived earlier and stayed longer. The true magic lies in this place. We loved this house! every corner of it, it is a very comfortable place and your friends or group of people will feel like home. It is a very functional house, whenever you need something (like a bottle opener) you turned around and there you go, you find it. It's clean and organized plus the cleaning fee is included which makes your life easier. It worked really well for me, with a group of single people and a couple. We fell in love with the house and we will definitely come back when the days are warmer. [Sorry for the pictures that are not rotated, I guess Yelp doesn't have that feature, another review?]
