We stayed at the Innkeeper's Cottage. The room is warm and beautiful, with a fancy-rustic vibe. Each morning they bring breakfast to your room. I was so impressed by their gluten free breakfast pastry. The meal comes with coffee/tea, juice, and fruit. Twice we ordered an egg breakfast and it was very good. We enjoyed eating at the restaurant. We ordered with the bartender and sat outside. The cocktails were lovely. The menu has limited gf options. Highly recommend for a cozy getaway. read more

Nicks Cove cottages is one of those places that I hesitate to review, only because I really don't want others finding out about it! We stayed two nights in bandits bungalow, and it was sheer heaven. This is a place to go when your heart and soul need a rest. The bungalow itself was the epitome of cozy. Beautifully decorated, radiant heat floors in the bathroom and a huge clawfoot tub big enough for two. The restful view of the bay from our porch and the quiet lapping of the water was like medicine. We will definitely be back with friends and family. The restaurant had some of the best food I've had all month. We ate there both nights and not a single course disappointed. The waterview cottages at Nick's Cove are nice and cozy. I stayed in the Innkeepers and it was spacious. I love the heated floors in the bathroom and the large soaking tub. The fireplace definitely warms up the whole cottage. The king bed is soft, plenty of pillows and nice, warm sheets and blankets. It's nice that they offer non-alcoholic beverages for free (sodas and bottled water) along with coffee. The continental breakfast is simple with pastries, fresh fruits, coffee, tea, and juice. It is pricey to stay, but it's a nice getaway to Marshall and Tomales Bay. read more

We have only stayed here once but it was great. Heated bathroom floor, wood fireplace and comfy bed. Check in is across the street at the restaurant. The room we had was not on the water but across the street with a water front view. In the morning breakfast is delivered to your door from across the street. If I recall it is a complementary  contenental breakfast but you can add to it the night before. Also a nice TV if you feel like vegging inside. Point Reyes is awesome for hiking, boating and biking. Well we see bicyclist but you will never catch me on those windy 2 lane roads. One of the best things about Point Reyes and particularly the Marshall area is oysters. Lots and lots of oysters. Nick's Cove Restaurant & Bar, Hog Island, Tony's Seafood and Marshall Store are all close.  From the bay area the main route seems to be through Point Reyes Station via Lucas Valley Road off 101. We prefer going up to Petaluma and taking the Old Redwood Highway exit towards Tomales and heading South on Highway 1. A much less curvy route. Back to the cottages. On weekends there is a 2 night minimum and you need to book it well in advance. We were at the restaurant on Dec. 3rd and we checked availability and was able to score 2 nights for the middle of January. read more

One of the most charming and romantic places you can stay on the NorCal coast. Nick's Cove is a group of lovely cottages right off of Highway 1 in Marshall. They're directly across the street/highway from the restaurant & bar by the same name. We've stayed in a few different cottages over the years and they are all wonderful. Each cottage we've stayed in has been fully equipped with a kitchen. One of the best features is the heated tile floor of the bathroom. It gets COLD by Tomales Bay, so it is heavenly to walk onto a warm bathroom floor in your cottage, particularly first thing in the morning. You can pre-order breakfast from across the street which they will deliver to your cottage - including mimosas and bloody marys if you're so inclined! This is a great spot to get away from it all. Book a night or two or three here with your significant other, and spend some quality time together, you will truly not regret it. read more

The wife booked this place as surprise for my birthday, I had been thru the area before but never paid much attention to the cottages. They have 5 cottages that are actually on the waterfront, in addition to 7 cottages that have a view of the waterfront. We stayed at one of the waterfront view cottages. The "Innkeeper's" cottage was absolutely amazing from the rustic feel and look. It has all the amenities needed for a "unplug" get away or if you need to still be plugged in you can. The cottage is approx 710 Sq. Feet and can sleep up to 4 people. We had a wood burning stove which we were able to take advantage of on this cold spring evening on the coast. The cottages on the weekends have a 2 night minimum stay as well as on certain holidays, you will need to contact them for additional information. We enjoyed are overnight stay and are planning to return once again. read more

Wonderful location and lovely cozy room with a world class view. However, it was overpriced. There were free non-alcoholic beverages in the mini fridge, but everything else in the room had a price tag on it. The continental breakfast of (fruit and mediocre pastries) were included but additional breakfast items cost more and in the end we had a bit of sticker shock. We spent the day hiking in Pt. Reyes and arrived at 5:30 to relax before dinner were surprised to find out that the restaurant closes at 7pm on a Thursday in August. We enjoyed our anniversary getaway and would recommend if money is no object. read more

I've been waiting to book the Nicolina and so glad I finally did! Spent a magical night in this little boat turned into the cutest cottage on the water with a gorgeous view. Enjoyed complimentary oysters and continental breakfast. The staff I interacted with, Courtney, Ashlyn and Angela were very welcoming and provided great customer service. The only slight disappointments were the quirky bathroom sink (which would only give me a trickle of water so I used the bathtub faucet) and that I couldn't soak in the clawfoot tub due to drought conditions. Other than that it was a lovely. Brought a book, magazine, journal, and ukulele but spent most of the time looking at the beautiful view and inhaling the sea air! read more

Amazing experience! We stayed at Uncle Andy's cottage. The room was comfortable, clean and the bed so nice! Great linen and perfect pillows. Breakfast was delivered to our room ( fresh pastry and fruit) and was wonderful. We arrived at 3 and we were so impressed with our warm reception. We went to dinner at the restaurant and sat at the bar. Bartender ( a female but forgot her name) was so engaging and knew a lot of local history. Their house special "gin and tonic" was very good. They make their own tonic! Fish and chips excellent! I wasn't wild about their clam chowder but I'm more of a creamy base for my chowder. We will definitely return! read more

Came here for a quick one-night getaway from the south bay and was pretty disappointed. Stayed in one of the waterfront cottages. This place is priced for serious luxury, but instead you get basic and nautical. These guys need to either drop the price or improve the experience - a lot. Also, the cottages are pretty close together and they allow pets in some, so we woke up to a barking dog about 2 feet away at 8AM. Not exactly what we had planned for a relaxing late morning. Food was decent but also a bit pricey. We did both dinner and breakfast as room service and tried lots on the menu. Dinner had highs and lows with over-sauced tuna, really terrible duck salad, tasty crab mac & cheese (unfortunately too sophisticated tasting for the kids), nice but a bit greasy duck deviled eggs, good cheese selection. Also, warning... no cell service out here (maybe that's why you came, but we like to stay connected) and the wifi was nice, but extremely slow. Really nice staff, but there aren't many of them, so be prepared to wait a bit to check in if you hit the timing wrong. Not coming back to get pillaged again. read more

Judy's for the absolute win! Wife and I celebrated our four year with a sojourn to Nick's Cove, after she discovered Point Reyes lurking Pinterest and style bloggers. Was hesitant at first - Big Sur and Deetjen's already had my heart. I ain't got time for new romantically secluded bungalows! But boy howdy, is this place perfect for a couples retreat! Each of the dozen or so cottages has its own personality and features, with a bit of a luxe price tag to match. Judy's had waterviews, deer lingering out back, a potbelly stove, rainfall shower, king (?) bed that absolutely swallows you hole, satellite TV (untouched by most) and a nauti but nice decor. On check-in, you get two welcome BBQ oysters, a fully stocked soft drink stash, and each morning welcomes you with the most scrumptious continental breakfast ever to pass these lips. Cozy is an understatement. Peaceful downplays the calm. We only stayed one night, and I absolutely did not want to leave. Give yourself three days, and a hot piece to share the room with. I stayed at Big Rock 1st night and Judy's 2nd night. Staff - very accommodating, great customer service. Every guests gets complimentary breakfast brought to your room (coffee/juice, fruit and pastries). The scones & muffins are really really good. The muffin is probably the best I've had. You can also add more food (oatmeal, eggs, bacon etc) for a few $. Every guest also receives complimentary "arrival oysters". You can have them raw or BBQ. I love the BBQ! Had a kick to BBQ sauce. Big Rock - they did not spare any details decorating this cottage. Panoramic views of the bay, your own deck, cottage with most privacy. Bring marshmallows, graham crackers & Hershey's-- fireplace works great. Bathrooms have heated floors, cool copper tub, and unique toilet. Too bad I did not take pictures of this toilet - hubby said we need one like it at home. Judy - this is smaller and different view of bay. You are higher up and on other side of road. This cottage is equally well decorated. Difference is really the view vs Big Rock. Every cottage has a room guests can sign. I read the one in Judy -- many years of satisfied guests. Restaurant- I expected quality to be like Gladstone or your regular chain seafood restaurant (good but not memorable). Well we were wrong - the food rival top restaurants we've had in SF, Napa & NYC. Another plus is Miller boat landing is right next door. A plus for anyone interested in kayaking. read more

I booked a getaway here for my wife and me over the holidays. The room was cute and with great views and we were excited to be away on our own. Also the restaurant and food looked to be perfect to accompany the stay. Unfortunately, there was an adjacent room with paper thin walls. We could hear every single word of the family (with dog) adjacent to us. Ownership was less than helpful initially but did end up refunding the stay as we decided to just go home. Pictures and amenities online are very accurate and helpful when selecting your cottage. Since our stay was short (2 nights) I opted for the small Nicolina right over the water. It is cozy with a small porch with outdoor seating. Each room contains an honor bar with a selection of beverages (both alcohol and non), a little coffee maker, heated floors in the bathroom, room heaters, wood burning stoves, complimentary oysters upon arrival and a continental breakfast to start each day. You may encounter some quirks; in our room there were no window coverings for the bay facing windows so when it gets light out you will know it. Also, in our bathroom the shower head was so low any average sized will need to hunker down. Also, the sink folds up and that is how the water drains (don't look back there to see how it works because it is obviously difficult to clean). Before my visit was over I loathed that sink. Again, quaint and unique and a little pricey but if you need to unplug it might be just what you are looking for. read more

The room was perfect, including the sound of the waves at high tide and breakfast delivered to us! The cocktails were great, and dinner was good. Just one note about wifi: it functionally doesn't exist. This is actually perfect for a personal getaway (as long as folks who need to reach you know to call Nick's!) but for a work retreat (like we were on), this was definitely an inconvenience. While ultimately we embraced the fact that our work would go undone, it's best just to say there's no wifi, when there's really no wifi. read more

I booked a cottage here two months in advance for my birthday and was so glad I did! We had a wonderful time by the coast. My husband's reaction when hearing about the place I booked was" we're staying at a restaurant?" Yes! Sort of. I booked Nicolina and it's the most perfect and cutest house boat I've ever seen in my life. The decorations on that inside, the succulents by the front door and the deck out back all made for the best vacation. Did I mention this place is super dog friendly? We brought our two chunky dogs and there were plenty of places to walk them and just below the houses you have access to the water. Service here was amazing and they provide plenty of dog towels and a hose outside the cottage to clean up the pups before relaxing indoors. Breakfast is free continental or you can order hot breakfasts. We got dinner twice and the food is amazing but I'll leave a review for the restaurant. Staff here are very careful during covid times and I saw everyone wearing masks and social distancing. Check in involved saying hi at the front desk and just going straight to the cottage. Check out was online and very easy. This place lets you book kayaks, paddle boards and boats but other activities and food options nearby require driving. There's excellent wine tasting in the area. Overall had an amazing time and highly recommend this gem on the coast. read more

Pros: (Location) This was a scenic and quiet location. (Cottage) It had nice decor. The heated bathroom floors were nice. The bed was comfortable. The customer service was excellent. They were very kind and accommodating. Cons: (Food) Theres nothing for kids here. Every food item we tried was awful. The clam chowder was a watery vegetable mix. Mac and cheese was tasteless noodles sans cheese, the medium burger was totally raw in the middle and had a weird spice overwhelming the taste. All this at a high price. Nothing else around to eat. (Cottage) The futon had squeaky and broken springs and proved impossible to sleep on. It also had someone else's toenails in it... (Location) There is no beach here, just a muddy bank. It is also inhabited by wasps. They were everywhere and aggressive. The floor was clean but left covered in a sticky film. Verdict: First and last visit. This would be okay for a single night for two people, maximum. For the price, I expected more. read more

We took a trip to the coast last week, and spent one night at Nick's. It is a lovely spot on Tomales Bay - one of the most special spots on the coast. On this trip, we did run into an issue which Alison helped us resolve in full. To say that the service went above and beyond is an understatement. She took care of our issue and then some. My husband and I planned to get away for our anniversary. For the amount it cost over $600 for one night durning the week on top of that, room old looking ( which could be cute ) and ran down for the amount they charge. And REALLY for the cost they should invest in better quality toilet paper instead of rough as sand paper. Granted it's a small town and truly only food options is to go across the street to Nick's Cove for meals but be prepared to have to place your order at the bar and wait over a hour to get your food. Food was good but very overpriced. We also asked to have a later check out just so we could sleep in and have our complementary breakfast brought to the room as they offer. 8:45 am rolls around hearing loud trucks outside our door then a massive smell takes over our room THEY were EMPTYING THE SEPTIC TANKS!!!! For over 1 hr this truck was emptying each of their tanks and our room was horrible. 9:30 am knock on the door and a man holding our tray wanting to walk into the room HMMM I was not dressed in bed with a sheet over me, my husband walks out the door and close the door to the man standing there wanting a tip. Really is appalling to have these many issues for the amount we paid. Each meal was over $145.00 x two meals and the room over $600.00 to have someone upset you did not tip him. I would not recommend this location if your looking for a getaway that's worth your money, if money is not a deal breaker it's very peaceful and the views are gorgeous. read more

I was evacuated from Calistoga during the wine country fires last week and found one cottage left at Nick's Cove, so I grabbed it online even though it was over my price range. It said they were "pet friendly" but I was afraid that meant "dog friendly" and I had my cat, Ernest, with me when I fled from the fires. They were incredibly sweet about accepting him and even waived the pet fee! Then when I went to checkout, expecting a $2k+ bill for my room and meals, they had deeply discounted the room. I was shocked at their generosity. Thanks so much to the kind ladies in the office who welcomed my sooty, tired self and my kitty. You made a very hard time so much easier- The only thing I will add is that you should *definitely* get one of the cottages that is directly on the water. I've always only stayed in those in the past, and the ones across the street are kinda sad in comparison. I mean, they make them lovely- still have awesome bathrooms, great antiques- but there's nothing to compare to watching the bay out your window. At least I still have the Boat Dock to visit! read more

I can't rave enough about this place! I came here for a corporate offsite, and we had a team of 12 people. The folks here are extremely hospitable. They took great care of us, accommodate various special requests without raising an eyebrow. Each of their cottages has its own unique qualities. The larger cottages on the water have nice fireplaces which are great for chilly nights. My favorite part our stay was the breakfast delivered to our cottage. The crab benedict was amazing, and it was served fresh. We also had dinner and lunch at the restaurant, and the food was simply delicious! We spent two nights in Judy's Cottage, not on the water but with nice views of same from location across the highway and up the hill. Pros: Location. Staying in western Sonoma County is always special, doubly so for on the water. The bed was not fab but comfy enough. Heated bathroom floors a nice touch. Cons: There's rustic, and then there's funky, tired, cheap, ugly used furniture. The lighting was so poor that we couldn't read, and I couldn't find anything black in my suitcase even in daylight. There was lotsa poop on the underside of the toilet seat (Sorry to be so graphic, but really, YUK!) Most staff we encountered were pleasant, with the exception of one sour young woman behind the bar who took our food orders and was very unhelpful. Speaking of food (and you will be a captive audience, nowhere else to eat), this is not the Nick's Cove dining I remember, which was top notch. This was quite average and very expensive for what we received. Breakfast, fine. Dinner, well, with Covid, it's tough, but eat elsewhere if possible. All in all, FAR too expensive for the actual experience, not at all good value. We would not return. On the other hand, if you want to drive further up the coast, we highly recommend the Glendeven Inn in Little River. Now there's a charming, clean, beautifully designed place to stay for similar or less $$$. read more

That being said, the gourmet burger was divine. Extensive, extensive drink & wine list...bigger than the food menu in this case. Great service too. We stayed at the Cottages "The Inn Keepers" on the other side of the Highway. The place was very charming. Our cottage had a wood burning fire place, set and ready to light. We didn't really need it but the fireplace works great, to be honest it got a little stuffy, but who am I kidding I would have lit the thing in the middle of a summer day. The bathroom floor was heated which is great for the midnight and morning trip to the bathroom. This place is a great weekend getaway. It runs a few bucks (we got it as a gift) so money didn't matter. Very relaxing with top notch services available with food to match across the street. To be honest the restaurant food service could have been a bit more attentive, but this is understandable considering the location and the help that is willing to drive in. We ate at the restaurant twice and experienced similar service, a shame considering the ambiance and food are as good as it gets. read more

Once you step foot on the property of Nick's you can't help but to fall in love with the place. I have not stopped thinking about it since I've been home and can't wait for the next time to go back. I wanted a two-day, relaxing getaway for my boyfriend and I. We stayed in the Heart's Desire room, and I truly could not have asked for anything more. The attention to detail and all the special, unexpected touches makes Nick's Cove the most memorable place I've ever been to. The moment you step in to your room, the ambiance is set with music, complementary appetizers to die, a private balcony with a priceless view, the most luxurious bed to get lost in, heated marble floors in a gorgeous bathroom and a tub large enough for a party of four ;) Even though it was just me and my love. It's rustic and luxurious and cozy. Nick's Cove is environmentally friendly too. Nick's restaurant is just a wonderful as the cottages. We ordered room service the first night (I got Salmon ... excellent!!) and we went over to the restaurant the second night (I got the halibut .... excellent!!) We also shared the BBQ oysters which were mouthwatering. Tuesday night was local's night, luckily, so we got awesome live music out on the deck of Nick's restaurant. Unforgettable. We stayed here two nights on our honeymoon and it was by far the best inn/hotel/b&b we have ever come across. Upon our arrival we received fresh and delicious bbq'd oysters delivered right to our cottage (just as the breakfast was). The nautical decor was perfect for the locale. There were so many aspects of the room (Uncle Andy's Cabin) that made it wonderful; wood-burning fireplace, heated bathroom floors, complimentary soft drinks and snacks, morning paper, large shower with two shower heads (waterfall and hand held nozzles), free wifi and terrific customer service. We had drinks in the cabin on the dock which were nice and strong to keep us warm during the cold evening. I had the pleasure of staying in one of the cabins (Fly Fisherman's) a couple nights ago. It's even more beautiful than the pictures. They took great care of us, everything was spotless, and relaxed. Room service breakfast, comfy bed, heated bathroom floor, tasteful furnishings, wood-burning stove ready to go...I could go on & on, but one last thing: it is worth every penny. Yes, it's a splurge, but you will not find a nicer place on the Marin/Sonoma coast that has it all: full bar, fabulous restaurant, cabins right on the water or across the street (for a little less $$) with water views and impeccable service. Way overpriced for the service. Heated bathroom floors are fine, but how much do you stay in the bathroom. Their deck furniture is dilapidated and needs painting. The two tiny oysters you get as a guest are not worth it. They forget items on your morning service and the fruit pieces we received were unripe, hard, and totally tasteless. The roads are treacherous and you hear the sound of trucks barrelling down the highway while you try to sleep. The down comforter was the only plus. This was a gift from my family and I feel SO bad they spent $500+ for a less than desirable overnight stay. read more

This review is about the lodging NOT the restaurant. Spend a long 3 days weekend at one of the waterfront cottages and it was fantastic. I stayed in Al's which had a wood burning stove and a porch/deck over the water. Old school rooms with beautiful views. Take a friend there and then message and thank me! Now I was really lucky and had great weather all but the last day but it really didn't matter by that time. Some of the rooms are dog friendly as well. The images listed on line are fairly accurate and I am sorry I didn't take any that I can post (privacy issues) so check them out. Potential negatives are the rooms/cottages are close each other with not the best sound proofing. The one cottage closest to the restaurant is not as private as the others as you can look into the place from the restaurant. When I was there they had a two night minimum. It can be seasonally expensive as well. read more

At the last min, we decided to do a quick overnight trip in the tomales bay/point reyes area over the 4th of July weekend. We were searc hing for a decently nice place to stay and found Nick's cove's cottages. We were able to get a great deal for a water view room b/c it was so last min. We stayed in the red -legged frog room and it was wonderful. Their service was awesome, and the room is super cozy but pretty spacious. Staying in one of the cottages for a night and the place is fabulous. Had dinner also - incredible. The halibut was excellent!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights, and we had a fantastic time. The complimentary breakfast is comprised of fresh juice, quality coffee, and excellent baked goods. The cottages are extremely comfortable and cozy with modern amenities. Lastly, the food from the restaurant is delicious and fresh. We will definitely be back. read more
