It has a cool biker bar vibe... The decor was an upscale biker bar which was cool. The service was good. The menu had an ample selection. I had a beef dip type sandwich with a side of sweet corn. We went here for lunch with a customer who grew up in the area. The reviews going in were fantastic and the visit did not disappoint. I had the spicy chicken wrap, which is quite good along with sweet potato fries and a butter and cinnamon based dipping "sauce". Unfortunately, the "sauce" came out in solid form and all I could do was spread it across the top of my sweet potato fries. I ended up asking the waitress to microwave the mixture to liquidy it and she instead brought me a new container with the sauce properly melted. This made for a pleasant experience. Called ahead on a Friday night they were able to seat 14 no problem. One waitress assigned to the table that was very friendly and efficient. Good assortment of food on their menu so no one should struggle finding something. Pretty solid draft beer list that I'd guess changes seasonally as it's written on a chalk board. This was a great hot roast beef sandwich. Most of the time when I order a hot roast beef sandwich, it is served open faced. This was served on toast as a sandwich. It and the mashed potatoes were very good. I also ordered fries with extra gravy and got the curly ones. Just glad I did as they were crispy and well seasoned. So why just three stars...There was a group of us and a lot was going on. Some how, the server, got our bills combined incorrectly. None of us really cared how it happened, but the server copped an attitude and justified herself, making it clear she had asked how to do it/it wasn't her fault...and then she just stood there. One person at our table said that she didn't wanna argue about it and despite server just having gone on her a little speech, she then says "oh and we are not arguing". Anyway, we had to ask if she could fix the bill and she said she could but then just stood there...so we just let it go and ran by an ATM. The whole thing was not a huge deal but it was one of those experiences thst makes you wonder why people just can't be solution focused and nice. It is usually less work and you get good karma! A quality bar in a place needing more. Waterloo doesn't have the worlds most bumping downtown scene, but the Screaming Eagle is one place that bucks the trend and is really awesome. Lots of Harley paraphernalia dons the walls with a few real bikes up in the rafters. So if you are a hog fan you'll love it. drink specials on Mon and Tues include $1 domestics and a wait staff that keeps your mugs full like no other add to the high rating for this place. Tons of big screen tv's with plenty of sports on at all times. A downstairs area called 'The Pit" has pool tables and adds another cool element to this place. Cheese Balls are the bee's knees. Get them. I could see this place being hit-or-miss, but perhaps I've just lucked out. Been here a few times as I stop in for Irish Fest over the years, and I've always come away pretty satisfied. Good food, for what they serve, and service has ranged from adequate-but-apathetic to (usually) friendly and welcoming. Popped in here the other night for a quick beer to kill some time with a friend. Man, I wish this place had been here when I was still living in the 'Loo. I really dug the atmosphere and the decor - they even have a chopper-riding skeleton like Twisted Spoke in Chicago! - and the barman was as friendly as they come. Really nice, cool guy. Decent beer selection and - this blew me AWAY - $1 domestic drafts. I got a (few) beer(s) FOR A DOLLAR!! I almost cried...but I didn't want to dilute my yummy beer. ;) I'm hoping the Screaming Eagle hangs around for a long time and serves as a sort of anchor for the downtown area. My husband and I stopped in for a quick little bite to eat in-between meals. We were advised to sit anywhere we wanted. After passing several booths that were waiting desperately to be wiped down during this very slow period of the day, we found one but still needed to brush off the debris on the bench. We were given menus by our waitress, who did not introduce herself. We still don't know what her name is. After looking over the usual bar food menu, we opted for a "Screaming Eagle" salad and the soup of the day, Irish beef stew. My husband made the comment that that stew is one of his favorites. He was very much looking forward to enjoying it. However, what a disappointment when it arrived. It lacked any vegetables which normally would be needed to make it a "stew". It was instead, beef and chunks of fat broth. My salad was swimming in dressing. My mistake in not asking for the dressing on the side. It was a nice combo of ingredients, though, even though they all tasted the same due to the overuse of the aforementioned dressing. We had nothing here that will bring us back. It all was underwhelming: ambiance, menu, service, and food. A great restaurant will have most, if not all, of these boxes ticked. This place is so hit or miss. Either the service sucks and the food is good, or vice versa. Expect to wait a long time for your meal. I've waited over half an hour for an order of wings. A group of six people I went with for an after work party waited over an hour for our food. Sometimes the servers act like you're a burden to them, which doesn't sit well with me. They do have a fun atmosphere. They have live bands every weekend, which is nice if you're into that sort of thing. They also have decent specials, especially during football season. It would be nice to have a restroom downstairs. Not great, not terrible. They are one of the few places who serve food past 10pm, so thats a plus. read more

Ordered Two BLT's and the bacon was not cooked (almost raw) by the time the waitress came back it was too late....picked it off and tried to eat it..,.had onion rings with it but those even tasted funny. I sat at the bar thinking I'd get faster service, 1st mistake. Bartender had some friends over and they had to do a couple of shots first. When the 'bartender' eventually waddled over looking like she'd just rolled out of bed, she recommended a special and I said ok. It was a wrap of some kind that she claimed was amazing but was pretty unexciting. Service was quite poor and the food was meh, 2 stars for having a good selection of beers. I ordered the taco salad both times I was here because the first time I had it, I enjoyed it so much, I figured, why not get it again? Note: was not busy this Monday at 11:45am. Anyway, I start walking toward the bar area to get eye contact with any employee to ask if I should grab a seat anywhere... answer was yes. Found a booth that appeared to be clean... it wasn't. I was then given the most tattered menu I ever seen by a waitress that never introduced herself but hey maybe the food will be good I thought to myself, cause I'm just always looking for that silver lining. Positive thinking didnt help this place out. The Screaming wrap of "grilled chicken" (more like canned), jalapeno peppers, tortilla strips, lettuce, tomato and pepper jack cheese missed the mark... those ingredients should have been delicious together! The half order of onion rings where the tastiest part of lunch. The best bar to hang out in downtown Waterloo, a location that used to be dead but has picked up some in the past 10 years. Food is decent for bar food, average by restaurant standards. Bike Night every Thursday at 6PM is the highlight and biggest night for this bar. The street is blocked off with a band and bikes parked in the middle of the street. A typical Thursday has 200+ bikes easy. Weekends are hit and miss as far as crowds go. read more

Went in for lunch. Took 15 minutes to get a server to take our order. 1 sandwich and 1 wrap both with potato chips. Took an additional 50 minutes to get our food. Asked server if it was nearly ready. Said she would check....10 minutes after she was asked she said it should be soon. It was moderately busy, but there were at least 3-4 servers for maybe 11-12 tables. When food came it was barely warm, as in room temperature, so was either never hot, or had been sitting a long time. Sandwich had been ordered with no cheese. It came covered with cheese and the standard grilled onions were missing. I didn't complain as we didn't want to wait another 50 minutes or risk more bad food. There was no apology, no explanation, nothing. Don't know if it was a server or kitchen problem, but if this is a normal day, I don't recommend unless you want to wait a long time for less than mediocre food. We did not complain, as it was clear we were upset and it was clear the server was avoiding us. As other customers left, nearly everyone got an apology from their server for the slow service. Our server brought bill without checking to see if meal was ok. I had planned on charging it, but left cash, as we gave up waiting for her to come get the payment. read more

The servers are REALLY slow and I waited 45min for a burger... The downstairs is dark and musty and there is no bathroom down there so you have to walk up stairs and through a crowd of people cramming the bar area(if they are busy).. I just wanted to take the time to write a special review about an outstanding place. Last night my friends and I sat down for dinner not realizing that we had 5 minutes left before the kitchen closed and they still decided to serve us with a smile on their face. There was a small mistake with one of our orders but our waiter Brent went out of his way fixed it right away and gave us outstanding service throughout the whole night. This place means a lot to me because a recent friend of mine Michael Linsey, just passed on and he performed there often. The Screaming Eagle did not take that lightly and decided to host a tribute for him and even has some of his pictures up above the stage. This truly shows why Screaming Eagle is one of the most respected bar and grills around.
