Several years have passed since the old lodge burned down, and the community suffered a historic loss. This place has been rebuilt from the ashes and is now better than ever! I love stopping here. The food, staff, and patrons blend to create a fun experience. First, the food. They offer an excellent menu of local favorites and add regular specials that are often a surprise. The Saturday Night Prime Rib is as good as any I have had in high-end places. Second, the staff is friendly and fun. We always provide excellent service; you can count on them to go above and beyond. Recently, they allowed us to stay after closing to catch the overtime finish of a game we were watching. Third, the patrons. We always meet and enjoy visiting with the cast of changing characters sitting at the bar. Just plain fun!

This was a great surprise after a day of off roading. A bbq bison burger and a cup of lobster bisque were an unexpected treat. Also, the shrimp scampi pasta was flavorful as were the ribs. The menu has a nice selection and the wait staff were friendly.

We live within driving distance of the restaurant but haven't stopped here since the fire and rebuilding. We decided we'd like a 'bar-burger' and decided to give Ma's a try. The building is clean, bright and nicely decorated in an 'up North' motif. We came for burgers, but the 'special' was chicken quesadilla. We weren't disappointed. The wait staff were nicely dressed and no sleazy tattoos. Our waitress was minimally attentive, but pleasant when she made an appearance. Our order arrived in a timely manner even though the place was very busy. Give Ma's a try.

This fry is like fry ambrosia, food for the gods!!

Friday fish fries, the baked cod or their shrimp dishes, even the burgers and gyro sandwiches are all really good.

The mushroom soup was just okay. There was too much pepper in the soup. The hot toddy was a good drink. The elk meatloaf was just okay. The bbq sauce was a little too sweet. The mushroom pasta was not good at all. It was so unbelievably bland. Over $40 for the most bland pasta I've ever had. I am not sold at this point in coming back. Again, the service was amazing! The food was not worth it for the price.

We have been dining at Bennethum's for 15+ years based on all of these. The best upscale, (but not pretentious) option in the Gaylord area. Josh and his family go the extra mile to insure their guests feel welcome and receive great service. On our most recent visit, I had the Perch, a menu staple. Always fresh, lightly dusted and flash fried, nice portion and great flavor. Accompanied with jasmine rice and green beans. My wife had the BNI Blue Wedge Salad, blue cheese dressing , applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, onion, with shrimp added for protein. Shrimp were plump, juicy and flavorful. And a meal is not complete without a loaf of their BNI bread. :) Great cocktails, warm ambiance. Be sure to check them out when in Gaylord area.

We had a group of 6, meaning we got to sample a lot of the menu from meatloaf, smothered chicken, parmesan crusted whitefish, fish fry, and the Sharon and when I say not a single dish disappointed! We also ordered a hot Chocolate cake (10/10 recommend if you want a decadent HOT chocolatey dessert) and peanut butter pie. The restaurant is small, and reservations are required so plan accordingly, but this is such a great place right on the ausable river. They also have several bird feeders and it was so peaceful to watch all the different birds as we sat and enjoyed a wonderful meal.

Gates is a place that makes great food and is low key /non pretentious. Don't dress fancy, don't expect cloth tablecloths or napkins. Do expect solid food. The crew had one vegan and three carnivores. Ryanne and Lexi were great for support and took care of us. We had drinks and a few appetizers as well as entrees. The trout, pork, and steak were great. The vegan salad and pasta were vegan... We finished off with a few desserts and had a great time. The location is remote and beautiful but worth a 40 minute drive.

I was hungry and had time to kill so I figured I would stop in the only bar in town. I walked in wearing my business casual attire as I had left straight from work for this trip. Sure, I got the immediate record stop/skip, turnaround and stare from everyone, but that was expected; this is a small town, afterall. While I did get the staredown, I never felt uncomfortable as I sat by myself at the bar. Hell, even a couple patrons talked to me for a bit! This place had a surprisingly decent amount of craft beer on tap. I think I was drinking some sort of IPA from Rochester Mills or Griffin Claw. Beer was cold and priced very well. During my few days in Comins, I visited Knot Hole probably 4-5 times. While we all mostly drank up there, we did order some food. I personally had some sort of sandwich the first visit. Don't recall exactly what it was but it was pretty good! Another night I decided to order their hawaiian pizza since I heard it was different than any other. Well, it came out with maraschino cherries on it, along with the standard ham and pineapple. It was surprisingly delicious and even had a drunken friend say "it saved my life". At any rate, I am making my yearly trip back up here soon and am definitely stopping by again!

Stopped in for a drink and bite with my Asian/American GF while traveling, was around the time things started to reopen from COVID. Bartender by name of Rodney complete with his Confederate Flag ball cap was present behind bar entire time, chit chatting and serving other customers while blatantly ignoring us. After that length of time being ignored and giving benefit of doubt, we realized what we felt might be happening was really happening, and left. Zero Stars
