My partner and I stopped by Cafe 86 in Carson hoping we had found our next go-to halo-halo spot. Unfortunately, authenticity and customer service were both missing from the recipe. Parking was easy, and when we walked in, there was only one occupied table. Three employees were chatting in the back. We were greeted, but it felt more like, "What would you like?" than "Welcome in." No smile, no conversation, no thank you--just a transaction. After taking our order, the employee returned to chatting with coworkers. When our order was ready, our name was called, the halo-halo was placed on the counter, and that was the end of the interaction. As for the halo-halo itself, my partner rated it a 2/10. It was overwhelmingly sweet and overpriced for what we received. We were hoping for layers of flavor and nostalgia but got a sugar rush that could probably power a small city. As a business owner myself, I understand that customer service is one of the biggest drivers of customer retention. Great products can bring people in once, but great service brings them back. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark on both. The good news? These issues are fixable. A little more warmth, engagement, and hospitality would go a long way. Until then, we'll continue our search for our next favorite halo-halo spot. read more

The most EXPENSIVE halo-halo you'll ever see in Cali. Overly priced. A definite NO. Found them on Yelp, and apparently their prices have since gone up. $13 for just ice, a scoop of ube ice cream and SOME stuff inside with corn flakes. NOT AUTHENTIC nor original. It's sad that Filipinos are serving this and it's not even what it's supposed to be. Didn't even have the beans nor the other fixings to make it a true halo-halo. Only the green and red jelly, and flan. That's it. Worst of all, they blend the ice and evaporated milk with brown sugar. Not the original. I asked them if they just had original halo-halo and they said yes, so I paid. When it was done, what they gave me was brown ice inside of my halo-halo. I thought it was mixed with coffee but they said it was with brown sugar. I was like okay whatever I'll try it. It was SO OVERLY sweet. They should have left it alone and not messed with the original recipe. It was sugar on top of sugar, and was sweet on top of sweet. It was hard for me to finish it, let alone pay so much for it. There was no balance. Everything was so sweet. Customer service was also nonexistent. The people that work there don't greet at all. Didn't even say a word while we stood at the register until we opened our mouth to order. The young girls that work here don't seem to care. I asked questions and they were nonchalant about everything. Didn't really explain much, clearly I was new. My order also came out within a minute! Meaning everything was pre-made. Now I can see why there's no customers here on the weekend (Saturday). Those are always indicators of a slow business. Too expensive, no customer service, and not authentic. Will not be returning. Stopped by Cafe 86 on a rainy LA day looking for something sweet to nibble on while reading at home. Mission accomplished. Parking Located in a busy plaza. Even on a rainy day it was packed, but we lucked out and snagged a spot as someone pulled out. Vibe Small, cozy, and eclectic. The space is filled with Filipino memorabilia and cultural nods, which makes it feel warm and personal. Very limited seating (only a couple of small areas), so this is mostly a grab-and-go spot. What It's Known For Cafe 86 is a longtime favorite for Filipino-inspired desserts--think ube everything, pandan, and tropical flavors. It's also gone viral over the years for its ube leche flan cupcakes and halo-halo-inspired treats. Order Mango calamansi slush--SO good. Bright, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. Sweet without being syrupy, and dangerously easy to drink. Service Ordered via the self-serve kiosk. First time visitor here in Cafe 86! Today, I ordered the Ube Milk Tea. Didn't know what to expect other than a good drink. Glad to say, I received it. First greeting, the Cafe is quite empty. I didn't see a lot of customers. And If you are into quieter spots, this is my top recommendation! Very clean, modern cafe vibes, lights everywhere, and located in carson. Good Job to the staff for keeping the environment comfortable. The atmosphere feels so welcoming, although, very quiet. The Ube Milk Tea is heavenly. That may just be exaggeration...but seriously, I say this a Filipino in search of 'Ube' drinks that actually taste like the ube treats my mother would make--I feel awakened. The milk tea was sweet and refreshing, and the money was well spent on the drink. I am very much looking forward to tasting more of the treats they have on display and some of the other drinks. First time at Cafe 86 in Carson on 2/14/26. We have been at the Cerritos location and loved it so we were so happy to see there's one closer to us. We were greeted warmly as we entered in. The staff was friendly and provided great hospitality. The restaurant was cool, lots of deco on the wall that keeps you entertained. We ordered the upside down halo halo and ube monster. Everything tasted delicious! For Valentine's, they gave us a free ube velvet in a really cute heart tin. They're located in Carson in a plaza with plenty of parking. Definitely worth the visit if you love ube or Filipino dessert. Highly recommend! read more

The Upside Down Halo Halo is GENIUS! I think this is my favorite halo-halo of all time. I love that they added cornflakes and substituted the usual beans for tapioca pearls. My mistake was ordering the "mini" when I should have ordered the regular. The ube crumble cookies and flan ina cupcake were made to perfection as well! We stopped here for dessert after a long day of sightseeing in LA. Located in Carson, this is a small shop that specializes in boba drinks and pastries. There are lots of ube items if that's what you're into. My favorite item here is the Turon pop tart. You can get it warmed, and once you tuck into the pastry it's a hot, comforting flaky bite. The filling isn't too sweet and it's enough to share if you want a small bite of something. The service is really friendly and there are a few tables inside if you want to eat in. I love how all my favorite things are opening up in the South Bay. Just a few more restaurants/cafes and I'll never have to leave this area! And with that said, thank you Cafe 86 for opening up in Carson! Drink: My all time favorite drink is the Hibiscus Calamansi! I can definitely get this multiple times a day! Really refreshing! But honestly, try everything! When I first tried Cafe 86, I was hooked on the Cookie Butter Monster! Y'all know how much I love my Cookie Butter! And this milkshake definitely did it justice! And can't go wrong with Ube Monster Milkshake... Just have the lactaid on deck for the milkshakes ;). and for the teas - the Peach Mango and Mahalo Mango are pretty bomb! Come on! Can't go wrong with anything that has MANGO in it! Baked Goods: Zomgoodness! Also so delicious! My two favorite are the Ube Crack Cheesecake and the Ube Butter Bar! Mmm.. Mmm... Good! But again! I love the chewiness of the boba, jackfruit, and nata de coco especially!! * Ube Monster - their iconic drink and definitely a must-try if you love ube and Oreos. * Strawberry Calamansi Cooler - tart, sweet, and so refreshing! * Jasmine Grapefruit Iced Tea - light and floral with the perfect balance. I love the fact that there is a Cafe 86 less than half a mile from my Suegra's house. It is so convenient!! They have all the same offerings as the one I've been too in Rancho Cucamonga. It is a lot smaller here. As well as a lot less seating area. This time around though we ordered so much more! We of course had to order their upside-down halo halo. And it was phenomenal. FYI adding a little bit of whiskey (bourbon- at home) elevated it. We also had to get their ube crinkle, ube with flan cupcake, halo halo bread pudding as well as a couple other things. The halo halo bread pudding is good. You can warm it up at home (35-40 seconds) and they give you a separate cup of ube ice cream. The cold and the hot contrasted amazingly. With the bits of coconut and halo halo bits in it really changes up the texture of each bite. You definitely taste the ube. Its moist. And just amazing Everything we ordered from here was exceptional. Im glad there's one so close to my second home. Its definitely super convenient. Even the display cases for their pasties were cutely decorated with fun drawings. The upside down halo halo was really good but pricey for a "mini" for $9.95. The Cali mango slush was a huge disappointment because not only did it not taste like Mango, the taste wasn't good at all. We threw out 80% of it and took home the boba to rinse it out so we could at least eat it since the boba was chewy and sweet. The service was average, but I did appreciate being asked to sign up for the loyalty program. read more

Halo halo yelpers. This place is fire but in an ice cold way. Out of all the Asian shaved iced desserts (bao bing, kakigori, patbingsu, etc...). Halo halo might be winning by a flan (or a foot) because of Cafe 86. Went in on a Sunday and it was moderately busy but no one came to the cashier booth to take orders, so I think they emphasize the self serve register on the side. Tried the halo halo og and upside down. Preferred the upside down but both were delicious. The only thing I would have changed is to get the small instead of the regular because it was a huge serving. read more

Cafe 86 is now in the South Bay! A few months ago I spotted construction for the new Cafe 86 being built in Carson. Being a fan of the Cafe 86 in Artesia; I was so excited to see one closer to me. Fast forward to Fall and Cafe 86 is now here! It's no secret I am a ube fan and this location has all the ube treats! From their popular Ube Monster milkshake to Ube Leche Flan cupcakes to Ube Latte; they got it here. For my first visit here I got their Upside Down Halo Halo. I got the regular for $9.95 though they also have a mini for $8.95. This now officially my new favorite Halo Halo! I loved how it had lots of Frosted Flakes, boba, coconut jellies and jackfruit! The vanilla ice cream was so creamy and the ube base was so tasty! I also got a Pumpkin Spice Mini Vegan Ube Bundt ($2.95). I love pumpkin spice anything and was so happy to see a combo ube and pumpkin spice. I did feel though that this had more coconut flavor than pumpkin. I am happy to see Cafe 86 in the South Bay and I know I will be back for more ube treats! That ube latte is calling my name. read more

If you're a fan of boba, you need to try this place! I recently stopped by and grabbed the Pandas Matcha with less sweet, and wow, was I impressed! The matcha flavor was rich and smooth, and the sweetness level was spot on - not overpowering but still enough to give it a nice balance. Definitely going to come back for it again! The one downside is the parking situation in the plaza. It can get a little tricky, especially during peak hours, but once you find a spot, it's worth it.
