My family has been under the care of Dr. Roger Moon for years. What I like about Dr Moon is that his bedside manner is one of the best. He takes the time to listen he's compassionate and empathetic, but more importantly he takes the time to review your entire medical history and determine how he can help. Overall, Pacific Comprehensive Pain Management does a wonderful job. Dr Moon is fantastic. His administrative staff tries to keep up with this busy office and they do their best by confirming appointment times , setting up either telehealth or in person consultations and appointment. 1 Star is 1 too many. The pa prescribed a medication that needs a prior approval and so far it has been over 2 weeks and haven't even requested it!!! The pharmacy has called and emailed several times and the patient has called and left voice mail 2 times and sent 2 emails and still nothing!!! Patient needs pain management for a cancerous brain tumor and they don't care. Going to see if we can change doctors. read more

Dr. Moon is very professional and kind. Very good care. Office people are friendly and efficient.

I was referred to Dr. Moon by my Spinal Surgeon, and I am thrilled he put me in such good hands. Dr. Moon is personable, takes time with the patient, offers various treatment options, and has a very steady hand! After dealing with lower back/hip/leg pain for over 2 decades I have seen many specialists/pain docs; Dr. Moon rates in my top 5 for sure. It is my opinion that any pain management specialist who is adamant against prescribing medicine, is in the wrong field. Many of us who suffer from debilitating disease for which there is no cure, or who refuse invasive spinal surgery to cut nerve endings every 4 months because these grow back, feel that we are not yet ready to be put out to pasture and lead non productive lives without contributing to our community. Doctor's such as Chou are biased and judgemental. They do not honor the oath they took which is," First cause no harm." I believe that sanctimonious behaviour hinders people's lives by forcing them to isolate without being functional and having the joy in their lives of feeling valuable and worthy of being their best with the simple help from medication. No. Meds do not cure, they camouflage pain but these diseases have no cure anyways and to live a life depressed and with a lack of self worth does lead to an earlier death. Shame on Dr. Chou. My Dr in Los Alamitos gave me Dr Chou's name and number ....I've called 3 days in a row and either have been transferred to another department and had to leave a message or haven't reach a person at all. They have never called me back. Not a very efficient way to build your patient base. read more

Dr. Chou wrote me a prescription for ONLY 30 Pain pills for a month and I suffer from head to toe CHRONIC pain and see 4 Specialists and a GP weekly and they all wanted me to go to a Pain Dr for scripts. My insurance requires a Pre Auth for these pills and Dr Chou wants ANOTHER $100.00 to SEND in the paperwork after I come BACK to his office and fill the paperwork out!! Isn't this the EXACT definition of a DRUG DEALER?? Cash price for the freaking pills is $72.00 at a WALGREENS!! Most expensive pharmacy! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? This is AFTER my $50.00 copay in his office and a solid week to even get someone to answer his phone! BEWARE! I'M DONE!! Going somewhere else with morals!! read more

So I've been coming here since 2015. I had Dr. Chou for the first 2 and a half years and then one day randomly I was sitting across from Dr. Moon. This might sound absolutely cheesy and stupid but my life (towards pain) changed that day. There are so many things wrong with my upper neck, lumbar spine, knee and shoulder. Here, I just focus on my lower back. You would never be able to tell that I have these issues when you first meet me and that's because of the support and strength Dr. Moon has given me. Even though I'm absolutely dying on the inside, Dr. Moon has given me the confidence to push forward and not give up. Gosh I'm not emotional but as I write this I want to cry lol. Dr. Moon has literally done and tried every resource he has within his power to comfort my pain and make it tolerable. We're at the point now where I've been sent back to a surgeon and I'll be having more surgeries. I want to point out that Dr. Moon did everything he could do to prevent me from needing more surgeries and unfortunately due to the circumstances that just couldn't be avoided. Some people would look at that as a failure and time wasted on things that didn't work. Let me make this extremely CLEAR. My time with Dr. Moon was not a mistake, failure or waste of time. I have learned so much from him and my eyes have been opened to the fact that there is always hope. No matter how much pain I'm in and or suffering I am completely grateful for the time and effort that I was given. I'm way more positive towards my situation solely due to the encouragement he has given me. He's made me realize I should never feel alone in this because there truly are others (like him) who will always be there. So if you're in unbelievable pain. If you silently cry and want to give up... please see Dr. Moon because he will do everything he can to help you. If he can't medically I guarantee he will mentally. There have been countless times I've gone to see him and I sit there across him telling him how my body is giving out on me at such a young age. He absolutely would not let me leave with that same attitude!!! I feel, no I truly believe he deeply cares for each of us (his patients). If I go awhile without coming in or I don't call to check in then HE will go out of his way to call me and see if I'm okay. Who does that? Do you know how busy doctors are? And if you've been here you know how extremely busy they are! Well Dr. Moon makes that personal time to call whenever he can to check in. THAT IS INCREDIBLE PEOPLE. So incredible I could cry. So here it is. Thank you Dr. Moon. You have changed my life and I'm so blessed to have had you as my doctor. Thank you for not giving up on me when I became difficult and nothing seemed hopeful. Because of you I'm starting this new chapter in my life and even though I'm not sure it'll work, I do know you'll be there to help me when I need it. If you're looking for a true KIND and effective pain specialist... please give Dr. Moon a chance. I been coming to see Dr. Chou, Stanley alone with my mom for years now and one day we check in for our monthly appointment and there he was a new Doctor. That day we saw Dr Moon and great, understanding, compassionate doctor qe have the pleasure of meeting. Ever since we been seen by Dr. Moon and we can not be more happier. Dr. Moon has giving me the chance to move forward I suffer from lower and upper back problems. The pain sometimes is too much that I suffer thru out my day at work. Dr Moon is literally my savior. I was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome about 3 years ago and it got worse and worse because I was stuck in the workman's comp system. It got to the point where I couldn't use my left hand at all even though I was taking high doses of Percocet throughout the day. I would have to go in to the hospital for a week or so at a time to be on IV Pain meds, muscle relaxers and sedatives during flares. Last October he took over my pain management during a two week hospital stay. He got my meds straightened out, got me off the high dose Percocet and onto methadone which is so much cheaper and easier to get, and into physical therapy. I still get flares but he manages them. His office is easy to talk to and he always calls back. Recently we did a ketamine infusion because I had another bad flare. He literally worked me in and made time for me so I could be treated. I woke up from that in very little pain and still days later I'm in very little pain. He's so good and he listens so well. If you have chronic pain go see him. It sucks my insurance doesn't cover it but it's worth every penny. read more

Avoid Dr. Roger Moon at all costs! He is walking malpractice. For starters, he told me to take massive amounts of tumeric (without explaining the benefit), and failed to warn me that tumeric negates the effectiveness of Nexium and other proton pump inhibitors like Omneprozole (Prilosec, Prevacid) and antacids like Zantac or Pepsid. For those of us with GERD, taking tumeric will make us worse!!! He is so inexperienced that he did not do his homework and believes that numeric is the new snake oil -- the panacea for everything. Secondly, he did not know how to do the basic installation of the Medtronic Intellius to relieve back and bladder pain. He was assisted by the Medtronics representative to no avail. I endured an hour of shock treatment in a humiliating position with my bum exposed while they shocked me here and there and who even knows whether the x-ray machine was zapping me the entire time. Dr. Moon doesn't talk or explain much because he doesn't know much! I got foisted off onto him instead of seeing the head of the practice as I wanted, Dr. Stanley Chou. I'm still traumatized by the Medtronic procedure and have new pains in my legs that I never had before. Do not allow Dr. Moon to touch your body! read more

Dr. Stanley Chou is a 10 on a scale of 5! He is very professional, perfectly competent as a pain management specialist, very patient with my many questions so I could understand the process of what he does and, most important, he is very precise with his administration of cortisone and epidural shots (unlike another dr who was the opposite). Also, Dr. Chou was quick to respond to any questions or concerns I had during my office visits between October 1 and yesterday. If you are searching for a reliable dr to help you get rid of your pain, I highly recommend you contact Dr. Chou so you can enjoy, hopefully, the same pain-free results as I am finally enjoying thanks to his precise administration of the epidural shots I've gotten from him. Dr. Moon has taken excellent care of my husband, and he is currently developing a more detailed plan to help my husband's pain issue. The front office girls are amazing. They even called other physicians for me, to find out if they take our medical insurance. They are very nice. My husband had a cervical epidural last week, and he called Dr. Moon today with a few questions. Dr. Moon called back and spent a significant amount of time with my husband, answering every question and being incredibly kind and compassionate. Dr Chou and his staff are great. They are not pill pushers and are not anti narcotic pain care. The right balance of the two. I am very lucky to have found Dr Chou and his PA Lynn, they have made my life very bearable without overloading me with opiates only. They offer acupuncture, massage and other treatment options that have made a huge difference for me and my Parkinson's. read more

This doctor is awful. His staff is rude and disrespectful to a point that is obscene. The doctor is completely paranoid about prescribing pain medication. Yet he's a pain doctor. He acts like you're some kind of junkie or drug pusher. Makes you take urine tests frequently to prove you are taking the medicine. I assume that's because he thinks you're selling it. I understand the laws are strict. But people in real pain, should not be treated as criminals. My fiancé who was dying of cancer came with me to an appointment, and he was interrogated about where he got pain medication. Like I was his dealer or something. It was completely inappropriate. He eventually discharged me as a patient based on discrimination. And left me on pain medication that would make me very ill with no follow up care. No referral. Nothing. Somehow all his appointments seem to be booked up but his waiting room is always empty. And he thinks using marijuana occasionally that's prescribed for insomnia will make you overdose. So he will test you for that. And you will have to stop using that. Which may mean an increase in pain medicine, if you use that also for pain, which is what has a risk of overdose. He is not very knowledgable about medication. And will put you on methadone for pain rather than trying the newer medications that are easier to get off of. He is completely inflexible. If your insurance doesn't pay for something or especially if you have to try a medication first as dictated by insurance. And it doesn't work. He will make you suffer in pain for an entire month because he won't change it. Even if you take the remaining pills back to the pharmacy. Even if the pharmacy and the insurance company are fine with it. He won't do it. He tries to say it's against the law and he'll lose his license about everything. And he charges you $25 if you have a Monday appointment and don't call on the weekend to cancel if you can't make it. My fiancé died and I was still charged. He has no compassion or empathy. And neither does his staff. If you can't make your Thursday appointment, they won't see you on Friday. Knowing you'll be out of medication all weekend. And that your body will become ill and you will be in tremendous pain. Which can adversely affect your health with the medical conditions I have. I've had to go on pain medications off and on for acute pain syndromes. But I suffer from chronic pain as well. And suffering from a weekend from medication withdrawal when you have chronic and acute pain is enough to make you want to take your own life. But Dr. Chou does not care. He cares about himself, his money, and his paranoia about "the law". I've never encountered such a doctor. He flat out discriminated against me in the end. And he will be reported for that. read more

Dr. Chou is a wonderful doctor that is highly educated in his field and has ample experience dealing with patients who have different types of pain. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 5 is because of the office manager Estrella. Everything was fine until the last 2 times I went in there to get notes for work. I have 4 bulging discs and one herniated fragmented disc in my lumbar. I had 35 spinal decompression treatments here on a spinemed table that cost me $4,000 insurance doesn't cover it. I decided that I wanted to try to have has few restrictions as I possibly could when I went back to work. So, I asked the doctor to write me a note to wear a back brace at work and use of a tens unit which I decided I didn't need the tens unit at work and try not to have any other restrictions. When the note was written it didn't have any dates on it and HR wouldn't accept it so I had to call and ask for another letter with dates. Estrella said they would call when it was ready. I waited all day for a short letter that has 3-4 sentences in it no phone call. I call the next morning to find out it still isn't ready. Well I needed that note that was Tuesday and i was going back to work that Thursday and HR needs time to process it. So, I decide to go and sit at the office until they have it ready for me. Estrella tells me that she said she would call when it was ready. I said I know but I waited by the phone all day prior and no phone call for a short note. Then she precedes to tell me that they don't do same day notes for people without a appointment and tells me that their system is down. I told her that I would just wait for the note that I needed. She had a attitude the whole time over a note that I already had written for me that just needed dates added. That was round one I try to give second chances after all she could have just been having a bad day. I called yesterday needing another note for work, because I'm getting scheduled 12 hour shifts at very fast pace locations that I am required to stand on my feet for 12 hours for. I work early morning so most of the time the office is closed when I'm going to work and closed when I'm done with my shift. Yesterday was my day off so when I called for the letter I let them know it would be helpful if they could have the note done that day. When Estrella called back to tell me it was done. She said in bad tone of voice I thought you didn't want any restrictions and I tried to briefly explain the situation to her. She then informed me that I had 15mins to come get the note before the office closed. Dr. Chou told me if I needed any more notes for work to just let him know. When you go back to work after being on medical leave for 5 months you don't know how your going to feel until after you work your first few shifts. So, you may need more notes for work restrictions. Standing on your feet 12 hours moving at rapid pace is hard on anyone. Anybody's feet and back would be sore after that let alone somebody that just went back to work who is trying to get use to being on their feet again for 8 hour shifts and has back problems. Also when they answer the phone for whatever reason they never say their names. They just say hi this is Dr. Chou's office. What about the part where you say you name and how may I help you? This is the only office I've ever heard answer their phones this way. Yesterday I called and asked who I was speaking to and all she would tell me is that she was the exchange. That's strange why would you answer the phone with hi this is the exchange??? I hope Dr. Chou reads this review, because he's a wonderful doctor and I want to continue to go and see him, but he needs to talk to his staff about the importance of quality customer service.
