Based on my two experiences here. CAMPING: It's inexpensive. Noise level is a little below average, because not a lot of people come here or know about this place. A fire pit, and grill are provided, and restrooms are just a couple minutes away (fairly clean). People who camp here or come here with their RV's are very friendly! It's really BEAUTIFUL at night! Many stars to gaze at, I've seen over 20+ falling stars. There's also coyotes, so be aware and keep your food in a secure place. ENVIRONMENT: There's not much to do here honestly. In the summer, you can use the pool, maybe play a game of pool table since there is a "game center" in the same building as the office. But the arcade games haven't worked in years! The only thing I did here was use the pool and maybe did a good mile hike around the gated campgrounds... not much sight seeing though.. There is a shuttle bus that will come pick you up to go to the Viejas Casino if you don't want to walk there. I see many campers take advantage of that since there's gambling, food places, and shoppes there if people are that bored. Overall, this place has so much potential. I hope in the future things will change here because it's located in a beautiful area, but the owners need to think about making this a memorable place that families would want to come back. A nice little place to camp. Besides unimproved tent camp sites, they also have electrical hookup sites, and RV sites as well. $25 for tent camping. Some sites have picnic tables, a bbq, rocks for a fire ring, coal pit, etc. Bathrooms are nice and clean and look like new toilets recently installed. You can reserve over the phone in advance. There is a store on site that sells food and supplies. There is a pool as well. The Cuyamaca mountains provide a scenic back drop. Plenty of birds and other wildlife around. read more

We grew up camping here as a family in our RV's so I was super bummed to learn that they don't accept Tent Trailers! Hope this is looked into and considered so we can continue our childhood tradition. read more

We came in on a Friday night. Everything was closed and we could not reach anyone by phone. We noticed the dry camp area was open so we pulled in for the night. The next morning a very nice security guard came by to check with us. We assured him we would stop by the office and take care of the bill. Again, he was very kind. However, Jessica in the office was quite rude when we went in to pay our bill. She wanted to know how we got in and assured us we wouldn't be staying another night. It was sure a disappointment from the other reviews I've read. Guess they were old. read more

The office staff at this RV park are the best I have delt with in the San Diego area. They will do everything they can to make sure ypu find a site that works for you. It doesn't matter if you are a full time RVer or tent camping over night these girls are awsome. Now with that said they do have rules that they have to abide by. They do charge per tent not per site so some people will try and go in and lie about the number of tents they are setting up then get angry when told that yes they do have to pay for the extras. The only major issues i have ever had have come from other campers. A lot of people seem to think that its party central and crank their music all night long. Yes the park facilities are in need of an upgrade but I have seen much worse. This is the first campground I have ever heard of that people expect rhe staff to pick up the campers trash. That seems really odd to me. Any other campground be it state or private you are responsible for your trash. All in all I have recommended this campground to many people and I never have any problems read more

It is a poorly run R V park. The staff seem to be intimidated in to doing what they are told. The tenants are afraid to speak up for fear of being kicked out. Nothing gets fixed. And only one maintenance guy does most the work. read more

This place sucks! It's so sandy and has no hookups to anything. The lady at the office is racist and discriminated against us and told us false information as well as treats us differently than the other white campers. Nearly no one comes here but us and the office lady is so strict with rules even though covid restrictions have ended. We have ONE visited and she called security AFTER making us pay her parking spot. She is a pain and I do not recommend here it's so hot and dry. read more

We stayed there for an overnight trip and have no complaints! We live in east county San Diego and can never get tired of the scenery, this place has beautiful trees, a lot of places to camp without people right next to you. They're dog friendly and the people you do see are very nice. Bring an extra long hose to dump your septic because ours wouldn't reach but no big deal. We'll be back for sure! read more

Camping in the summer can be a bit uncomfortable especially in the day but the campsites have plenty of shaded areas. At night, it does get cold and there are a lot of stars to see. The people that live on the campsite are friendly. IT USED TO BE GOOD BUT NOW ... Unfortunately the pool was under repair and closed. The staff did not notify us when we made our reservations (party of 6 tents with 30 people) which would've made a difference to possibly go somewhere else or purchase water balloons for the kids. Make sure when they charge your credit card or debit card that they charged the correct amount before you sign the receipt. The staff had over charged me by $50 and stated that it was the machine's fault when they were punching in the amount of purchase . Beware the staff is RUDE! It doesn't matter if you are pleasant to them, or smile at them, they will not do the same. Customer service is not their high-priority. Too bad they are part of Viejas, which now makes sense why they don't advertise because they are not to the high standards Viejas pride themselves to be. Trash used to be picked up on a daily but not anymore. Bathrooms are dirty but the shower water is hot. Overall, it was fun with friends and family but I think this is the last year we come here unless Viejas puts some money renovating this place. Too bad! read more

Enjoyed the sight of the over 100 year old oak treesm We where allowed a small fire in our camp. Shuttle service 24-7. Unfortunately the lake dried up due to a drought so we swam in a pretty mediocre pool. However the pool is off limits past seven and is literally gaurded by barbed wire. Kinda defeats the purpose of a jacuzzi. Overall, if you wanna go to the casino, this is a good place to squat. [(Showers) dirty] read more

I have been coming to this campground for years and always have a great time with family and friends. I love that there is a grocery store on the grounds and rec room for our kids. The managers and staff are very helpful and friendly! I would recommend this campground to others! read more

This is my 2nd time camping here. My sister-in-law likes it bc it is close to casino and outlet malls, but I really like that there are cows and horses roaming around and that they have a pool, Jacuzzi, club house with pool tables, foosball, 80's video games and a juke box!!! And just overall beautiful scenery. The campsites are huge! read more

We go every year! It's relaxing, it's peaceful and we as family make it fun. We went last weekend, and it appears there were some changes. They no longer pick up the trash nor provide you with additional trash bags to ensure you keep clean (thankfully we had extra bags from the previous year). The front desk staff was absolutely RUDE to not just us but our entire group of family and friends upon checking in. The pool was closed for repairs or cleaning, and they advised we could go to their sister campground to use that pool. It was a short drive away, but it was disgusting and dirty. The playground needs more slides, swings or even a small basketball court. There is a lot of people that live there, you would think they would provide updated amenities. A small dog park for those that travel with dogs. The bathrooms also need renovation , expansion and they need to be maintained up to standards. The sink seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. For the amount of $$$ Viejas has spent renovating their hotel, they should also spend just as much for their RV campgrounds. It's beautiful and it would be even more beautiful with much needed upgrade! read more

This could be a great RV park, but the way it is run and set up now leaves a LOT to be desired! We drive a 45' motorhome and the East Meadow should be able to accommodate us, but getting into this place is almost impossible! Why would you put in a narrow gate and a sharp right turn to get into an RV park? Makes no sense! Also, they need to trim their trees to accommodate tall RV's. We stayed here several days and one morning we woke up to no electricity. We went up to the office and they said "oh yes, it will be out all day...didn't they tell you when you checked in?" uhhhh....no! (and it was almost 90 degrees that day!) fortunately we have a generator, but those who didn't were in for one hot day! Maintenance is at a ZERO...huge gullies were everywhere on the dirt roads (from not-so-recent rains)! It is obvious that they have not done any road maintenance in YEARS! We will NOT be staying here again! read more

Awful, If you like your rig and don't want it to get damaged then find another place. The sites don't even pretend to be level. Makes manipulating your rig onto the spot very difficult or impossible. The hook ups barely work,. had problems with the sewer. The "strategic" placement of the boulders make no sense, they're just in the way. The sites are nothing but stickers and cow patties, everywhere. The only place I could let my little dog down was on the dirt road. Couldn't find a trash dumpster anywhere, I had to carry my trash out. And was not a cheap place to stay. I'll never go there again...I couldn't wait to leave. read more

Absolutely the worst rv park. I nearly broke and axel on my car. No gravel no pads. Just dirt with horrible ruts everywhere. No trash dump. Rude nasty staff. Uneven parking in an unrecognizable layout. All the permanent guests live behind a locked gate. No facilities for transients. The weeds will get into the fur of dogs so beware. If you are desperate you are better off going to a truck stop or another casino area. read more

My husband and I stayed at this campground last year during the 4th of July week (2016). We felt that for the price it was fair. We just sleep in our pop up and then drive into San Diego daily. We stayed for 10 days. The showers are dirty and cold, toilets may not work and are gross. Staff is rude and acts like we are bothering them. There is no camp host so the rules are not enforced. The parting and noise was continuing past midnight several times. If you want to complain you have to call the casino security. The sites are not well marked. Due to the office staff poor management and scheduling we had to move our pop up 3 times because they kept putting us in sites that they had double booked. The photos of the campsite are not accurate as this place is dirty and not kept up. Despite all this we had planned to stay here again for 12 days this year. Like I said we just sleep there. We had made reservations about 3 months early (April). Due to a job change we had to cancel and reschedule our trip. When I called to reschedule I was told that we could only stay for 4 days at a time. That we could not stay for 4 days then sign up for another 4 days, etc. We would have to leave the camp. I was told that this is due to the homeless problem. I explained that we are not homeless and that we have a pop up camper. They said that this is the policy. I said if I had not cancelled and showed up during my original reservation would I have been told upon check in that I would have to leave after 4 days even though my reservation said 11 nights? They said yes. I asked why wouldn't you have called me to let me know that the policy had changed? There was no answer. The big insult was that all there "quests" are now being assumed to be homeless. So if you are homeless but can pay for the site you still can't stay? This is rude. I would never stay here again. read more

We have been going to MaTarAwa for probably almost as long as its been open. I'm going to guess approx 25 to 30 years. Every single year, sometimes 2 or 3 times, we would all (family) get together and go camping. It was just something we did. We always had pleasant experiences here (obviously, since we came back every year). Its beautiful, the people that worked there were awesome and it was an overall fun, yet relaxing experience....UNTIL this last trip in July 2012. Employees were unbelievably rude! They were aggressive in the way they spoke to us, never asking us but "ordering" us not to go here or there or not to use this or that. Rules changed in August of 2011 when they went under new management according to the office worker (who was also extremely rude). Only 2 people of all the maybe 6-8 people that used to work here, were still here. Everyone else was new. We were really sad that the new management has changed things so drastically that its no longer any fun. We have never, ever, not even once had complaints from anyone regarding any problems with our family and campsites, yet this time, they followed us everywhere in their white pick ups & must have driven down our road (we were the only ones on it) probably more than 10 times a day as if we were starting trouble or being rowdy (these are family trips and there's NO "partying" allowed...(my moms rules), so they had no reason to be harassing us. It was insulting (My husband commented that it seemed like we were in a compound of some sort). Our happy times were over. 4 generations grew up going to this place & enjoying the beautiful outdoors. I am deeply sorry to say that I will not be returning. We already have plans to look for new places to camp. Its like losing an old friend. We really LOVED this place. Now, its gone to the crapper. Very sad. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it is still such a beautiful place. If i were judging on our experience alone, they would get 1 star for sure. read more

While the mountain view was very pretty & our spot was very private to our big group we only got the good deal & spot bc of a mess up. We were put near RV's even though we were camping in tents. That we didn't mind. We were near the pool, the pool is kind of small for such a big site but we made do. That being said our third day there the pool was not opened at the time they said it would be & then 3 hours later they said it was closed for some reason. We paid for three days I expect to be able to use the pool for three days! I've gone to bigger campsites with bigger dirtier pools that have been cleaned & opened nicely & on time so I don't see what the problem is. Also 730 is early to be closing the pool. Another problem we had was the small bathrooms, there was a port-a-potty near us but it was always dirty. The showers were dirty & made all the floor in the bathroom wet. The doors had a big gap where people could see you standing there showering. I think it's safe to say we won't be coming back here & I don't recommend it. read more
