Masala Spinach Chicken Sandwich - I was between ordering this and the regular Masala Chicken Sandwich. Glad I got this one because the spinach added a touch of creaminess without feeling too heavy! I don't know how to say this any other way but.... this was the best Indian food I've ever had. In fact, I would like to say it was probably one of my favorite things I've ever eaten. I ordered the tandoori chicken burrito and the tandoori paneer burrito. They each came with a side of seasoned fries and chips. Oh and we ordered a side of amazing pickles. Everything we ate was incredible. I love Indian food and this was the next level. Yes, it's not traditional - but that's what makes it great. Having so much flavor wrapped up together was awesome. Amazing food and so many options! Ordered the Spinach Saag Curry, which was absolutely amazing. Also ordered the Parathadilla with butter chicken, the meat was really good, and the paratha was so toasty. Chole Samosa Chaat as an appetizer was perfect the samosa on the bottom was delicious with the garbanzo curry. I also tried a side of the queso and it was so so good! Today we place a big lunch order for work from here. I wish I could give it ZERO star. The rice was undercooked and was very grainy for all the 8 meals we got. The bread that was supposed to come with each order did not come with it and instead a more oily bread was added. The "paratha" that came with the order were from the freezer aisles found in grocery stores. The Paneer was over cooked and dry. The sauce was way too creamy and spiced well. Maast has a secret ingredient... LOVE. Maast's food is made with LOVE. I have been searching for an Indian restaurant chef that makes his/her food with LOVE and I found it!!!!! How do I know this is "commitment-worthy?" Because I'm Punjabi and have been eating and cooking Punjabi food my entire life. Imagine luscious chole (Garbanzo beans) that actually look and taste as good as mom makes: flavor galore, just the right amount of heat, not too thick and not too thin...perfect. My family calls them "Pindi Chole" meaning authentic Punjabi village style chole. Imagine creamy paneer that's actually visited the tandoor before being placed lovingly in creamy paneer sauce. Compare this to restaurants that just put "raw" paneer directly into the sauce. You know what I'm talking about. No, this paneer has been treated well. The chole came with two medium bhaturas. The paneer came with rice, a little cup of carrot achaar ( so good) and a hot parantha. What more could you want?!! Imagine crispy fried onion pakora, not greasy, not cold...served hot and crispy. The onion pakora come with a side of masala ranch dipping sauce. Yummm!!! Imagine, reimagined Mac and Cheese, served with a creamy butter cream sauce redolent of Indian aroma. I didn't think it would work...but boy does it!! Imagine, cool, smooth mango lassi that's not too sweet and served cold...so craveable when you want something refreshing but don't know what. I can't wait to try the other items on the menu, they all look and sound so appetizing. I did pick up and everything was packaged so well: labeled, organized and clean. No mess here. Everything was hot in temperature, as it should be. There were napkins and cutlery included. My most tiny suggestion would be some fresh cilantro on the chole/paneer etc.:) Most importantly, this is a family business. When I went to pick up, the chef's dad came out to hand me my order. I was so touched, he said "his son was the chef and he was helping out." The chef and his family have really made an effort to put out exceptional food and you should give it a try. Not too hard to find: From Main St., turn onto the street named "Executive Circle." You'll be in what looks like a parking lot with rows of short buildings. No worries. This is my second time trying this establishment. The first was time I was really disappointed with their Vada Pau. It was ridiculous, a mashed potato patty on a bun with no sauce, nothing. Not even close to a Vada Pau. So thought I would give them another shot. Well, my item was even worse. It was listed as Bhel. Nothing like Bhel, I have ever had. There was just plain old puffed rice, with a maybe a sprinkling of potatoes, a few pieces of tomatoes and a very spicy green sauce and a sprinkling of fried vermicelli. Bhel has puffed rice, boiled cubed potatoes, black garbanzo beans, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, a green sauce and a tamarind sauce with SEV (noddles made from gram flour). This is equally proportioned, not an abundance of puffed rice. Sad they can't get it right. There is huge Indian community in Irvine guys, so get it right. read more

I don't often take the time to write reviews but this place deserves mention. I grew up in a place that had the most Indians outside of India and so have loved Indian food since I was born. We LOVE what they're doing here. We come to Irvine 2-3 times per week from Los Angeles and HAVE to get Maast every time. Plus they are the nicest people! Even if their food wasn't great, you'd still want them to succeed! But it is amazing so they should for sure! Their Butter Chicken Parathadillas, Queso Fries, Samoosas, wraps.... all sooo good. Tried the tandoori paneer parathadilla today and it was phenomenal. The paneer was deliciously seasoned, the chutneys flavorful, and the paratha perfectly flaky. I have to drive 20 minutes on the 405 and face reckless drivers but when I get a bite of this food I realize it is all worth it. The first time I went, I had chicken korma or butter chicken (I can't remember which) and it tasted very ordinary. The second time I went I had a tandoori chicken burrito with lettuce (instead of rice) and it was really tasty. So I want to give them 4.5 stars, but since I can't, I'm giving them 5 stars because the bathroom was super clean. The burrito was really big - in fact, bigger than I needed - and I couldn't even eat the homemade Indian flavor potato chips that came with it. Frankly, I'd rather they make the sides an optional add-on for an extra price, not only because it was too much food for me but also because, like many places these days, the price for lunch is feeling a bit on the pricey side. So that's my suggestion to Maast (in addition to continuing to keep that bathroom sparkling): reduce the price by not forcing sides on people. By the way, the cold chai tea was really delicious - very authentic, unlike at coffee shops like Starbucks. But it was too small and not a good value for the size. So that's my other suggestion: it probably doesn't cost a lot more to make the chai about twice as big as this small cup (and don't people need a good amount of liquid with a spicy meal?), so why not do that and make your customers even happier? I mean seriously, a chai tea is mostly water, so no reason to undersize it. Edit: I went a third time and had a parathadilla with spinach chicken. It's two pieces of crispy flatbread with a delicious filling folded inside. I've never seen this before in an Indian restaurant. Wow, it was really good. Definitely worth trying. After my second and third visits, I can say they've now earned the five star rating I gave them. read more
