This is the first time I've been here since there was a change in management or ownership a year ago. The ambience was nice with many wall, booths and tables and a TV playing some Bollywood music. I enjoyed the atmosphere. I stopped by on a Wednesday for a lunch buffet, and I was very pleased with the large variety of items, including chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, chicken or lamb curry (did not try it) and chili chicken. The butter chicken sauce was very tasty. The tandoori chicken also had a pretty good marinade and it was not overcooked. On the vegetarian side offerings , they had dal, some kind of dry potato (aloo) curry, Saag Paneer, Navaratan korma, Bengan Barta, and also miniature Samosa and egg rolls. All the dishes were tasty and hot. The buffet was so good I bought one to go for my wife. I will definitely come back. The owner was very polite and also the waiter (Durzo sp?) was very polite, accommodating, and gracious. Royal India gets five stars on the variety of offerings considering buffets can be limited, five stars in value, and the food gets 4 1/2 stars. I will be back thank you very much. read more

First time coming to this restaurant and I'm definitely coming back. I went with my coworker and he said it's Nepal and India food. Quite delicious. The lunch buffet was under $20 and included the garlic naan bread. I like how hot food items were refilled frequently and their tandoori chicken was moist and not dry. Thank goodness for their small desserts as I got to try different ones without filling up too quick. Service was ok. Took a long time to get our waters refilled and for my Mano lassi to come. At this restaurant, the Naan is served fresh & warm, has the perfect consistency and flavor, and the initial serving is plentiful. 2) Is the Goat Curry good? Actually, some all you can eat Indian restaurants don't even serve goat curry, but this establishment serves a very spicy and yummy goat curry, which made me sweat a little. 3) Is the Gulab Jamun decadently sweet? Yes, the GJ here is served warm, sweet & sticky. CONCLUSION: if you're ever on Interstate 5 near Lake Forest, and you have a craving for some authentic Indian food, this place is a must visit. For a $16 dollar all you can eat Indian food lunch special - this is really a great deal! The food was very good, service very kind, I think I'm just used to having Indian music, maybe the TV showing Indian dances, etc. Also an Indian waiter was missing. The food was very good as mentioned, it's just that some of the items didn't taste like authentic Indian food. (based upon my experience with frequenting, so many Indian restaurants all over Orange County) Being more familiar with the previous Indian restaurant that was here decades prior, I had a familiarity. But don't get me wrong, the food was very good and there were lots of choices. However, One of the choices that I would not ever select is the Goat Meat (It just doesn't sound or looks appetizing for me.) In addition, I'm used to the rice pudding having rosewater in it, & more flavorful. In summary, perhaps the main issue was - flavors were off. Also familiarity with the cuisine, is important. Tikka masala was very sweet with no other complex notes. I've never had tikka masala like that. Not good. Samosas were too thick and bland. Lemon rice had unsalted pale peanuts. I love lemon rice, and one of the joys of it is having the salted browned peanuts. Disappointing. Dal makhani was okay. Hard to mess that up. Naan was great. Atmosphere was not my favorite. It's very close to the freeway and it feels like it. Cold and minimal. Service was very sweet and I'm sorry to leave a bad review. Ok so this place recently changed names/ownership but the food and service are still outstanding! They have lunch buffet every day from 11-2:30 (3pm on weekends) and the price is now only $15!! This is the best price around for Indian buffet and the quality is super. We came in for a late lunch around 2pm on Sunday and there was still lots of hot food and I saw them replenish a couple dishes. There are booths lining the sides of the dining room and tables in the center (most patrons opt for the booths as we did). I like that it doesn't feel so crammed. Service was very attentive with someone constantly coming by to bring drinks and naan, clear plates, refill drinks, etc. The food itself was very tasty. They have over a dozen hot items... highlights were the tandoori chicken (so moist and flavorful), chili cauliflower, chicken biryani, saag paneer and goat curry. The chicken tikka masala here was a little bit of a disappointment as the chicken used were blocks of unmarinated chicken breast. I like their buffet the best in OC. I also notice the buffet price is lower than most places in OC. They have varieties dishes and I love their tandoori chicken is the best. They are very moist and great flavor. They also serve really good nans. Music is not too loud and very calm atmosphere and I can enjoy the quiet meal here. I went here for the first time on a Monday evening and ordered the gobi manchurian, shahi paneer, malai kofta, garlic naan and the gulab jamun. The service was really good and the ambiance was very cozy and inviting. The food itself was amazing. The garlic naan was very tasty and buttery. Yum! The only thing I did not like about Royal Rasoi is that is is far from me. My husband and I wanted to try something new so we decided to make the drive to check out this establishment. We came on a Saturday for lunch and it was busy but no wait. I liked that they had their lunch buffet even on the weekends. And on Sundays they include champagne. The self service area had a large variety including a whole section of vegetarian options. Everything I tried I enjoyed. The foods were full of flavor and always refilled. All the meats we had tasted tender and delicious. We got a choice between regular and garlic naan which we got garlic. It was yummy. Oh and we got a lassi drink as well but I don't recommend it since it tasted off. Service was great and they made sure to give us more drinks and take away our finished plates. The inside is pretty spacious which makes getting the food easy. We would definitely come back. read more

I love these I always get four personally for my own consumption eat two the first night I get them and then squirrel the other two to eat half at daily intervals with my much less scrumptious homemade Indian fare 5/5 Chicken tikka masala: this is definitely a staple dish for the white girl dabbling in Indian cuisine. I don't care if I'm adhering to a stereotype, I love CTM. The sauce is always reliably excellent at royal Rasoi. However, when you get it for takeout or delivery, the chicken is a bit more overcooked than what you will appreciate with a dine in or buffet experience. 4/5 Daal Makhani: very good, some of the lentils are a little more firm, others are very soft, that is intrinsic to the dish when you order it from this restaurant. Very buttery highly recommend. 5/5 Saag Paneer: also very solid choice. I got it as a mild spice level in an attempt to entice a child to eat it, I probably should have gotten medium, because the flavor profile was good, but it was just a bit bland without the added peppers. 4/5 read more

The food was fantastic. From the Lamb Korma to the Mango Lassi to the Chicken Vindaloo, every dish was fantastic. Prepared just how you expect! The nanns were on point and the service was excellent. We came in quite late and there weren't a ton of people -- a shame everyone not here is missing out -- and the service was excellent and food fresh and excellent, clearly made fresh to order. The wait staff hit that perfect balance of making certain your drinks were refilled without being too pushy. A note my friend with OCD wanted me to add was that the staff wore gloves and every dish, plate and utensil was sparkling clean. Ambiance was also very pleasant. Went here for the weekday buffet, and wasn't really impressed. I don't know what has changed since they were Royal Rasoi when I went a couple years ago. It seems like on Yelp it might just be a name change. It's pretty affordable at $16 for weekdays, and $18 for weekends, but I feel there's better options. Most of the items at the buffet felt like it could use more seasonings. The chicken tikka masala, which I was looking forward to was a bit bland. The dishes ordered were a version of their butter chicken, goat curry, and garlic naan. The curries were somewhat watery, had lots of the normal spices but at the same time it tasted a little bland to me. Usually we order the same dishes at all Indian restaurants and they've all tasted very very similar. This place tasted very different to me and I personally felt it was too bland. The goat was cooked perfectly though. The garlic naan however, was delicious and you get a big order for $4. Great deal. Customer service was great, they were fast, polite and very friendly. I came here with a friend on a weeknight for dinner around 5:30 and there we were the only customers. I'm going to say the food blew me away! I am so glad we tried this place that I didn't even know was there. We ordered vegetable samosas to share, Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Curry with an order of the garlic naan. The samosas were delicious but extremely filling so I only ate part of my main dish. The curry and tikka masala were both pooping with flavor and I couldn't get enough of my leftovers the next day for lunch. You're doing it all wrong if you don't order the garlic naan. Ordered the lamb vindaloo (perfect spice), korma chicken curry (chicken was fall apart tender and the sauce silky and creamy), cashew curry (OMG I could dip my bread in this forever) and the bangain bharta (eggplant) which was excellent. They also had great beers too. Very very affordable for dinner too. Sad that there was only one other customer in the restaurant on Wednesday. Everyone should try this place. So good! First off, I ordered off Door Dash as a delivery. I ordered at 6:13PM and received my food exactly 30 minutes later at 6:43PM. Very quick! We ordered two chicken tikka masalas with basmati rice and a side of the garlic naan. The proportions were quite large that my husband and I were able to share one single order of the CTM and save the rest untouched for lunch for the next day. The flavor was on point and temperature was still hot after delivery. I've never seen such a dark orange CTM and it did stain my hands a tiny bit but worth it because it was so delicious. I got whole bits of onion and tomato which was nice since other restaurants where it's just blended in the sauce and lacks texture. The sauce was great with the garlic naan as well. Very happy with our order and hoping to experience the restaurant in person next time! Will be ordering again in the future. read more
