Easily one of the best Indian restaurants I've had in SoCal. The ambiance feels upscale without being pretentious. The interiors and decor are *chef's kiss. One detail I loved was the screen playing old-school Indian movies in the background. It adds a layer of nostalgia to the experience that's hard to describe, almost like the feeling you get watching classic black-and-white films. The food does take a little while to come out, but it's absolutely worth the wait. Service is friendly. Samosa Chaat (9/10) - An explosion of flavours. I loved that they leave larger chunks of samosa throughout the dish instead of turning it into one giant mashed potato bowl. Great texture and balance. Dahi Puri (8/10) - Refreshing, slightly spicy, sweet, and savuory all at once. Plus, it's a fun dish to eat. Lamb Curry (7.5/10) - The meat was tender and the curry itself was rich and flavuorful. Butter Chicken (8.5/10) - Packed with flavor and hands down the best butter chicken I've had in Orange County. My only complaint is that the portion wasn't bigger. The food was lowkey not good at all... the mango lassi was warm and hard to drink. One of the dishes that I can't remember the name of (is in one of the pictures) was so oily there was a puddle of oil in it. Everything was oily- like actually felt gross by the end of the night. The place itself was cute but there was no windows open and so many tables as well as a movie streaming - I could barely hear myself think. This review is for their online ordering This is my first impression of Mint. I live in Irvine and always eat at Southern Spice, Clay Pot or Natraj when I crave Indian food. However this time I thought I would try something different. So I ordered online with Mint. All the pictures and reviews were decent so why not? Well I should've stuck with my OG's because this was not it. I ordered x2 buttered chicken that was in a very small container (see photo attached) for $20 EACH! Garlic Naan that was $5, Mango Lassi also $5 and Gelato. First, if you guys are paying $20 for a small tiny container of butter chicken in LH please please do yourself a favor and go try Southern Spice. Their flavors are mouthwatering and the portion is huge. I understand inflation but this is ridiculous and the flavor is blah. It's like there is no spices in there at all just butter and tomato sauce AND the kicker...no rice! Super weird to me that they do not automatically give you rice! Like who just orders butter chicken or any Indian,Chinese, Korean dish for that matter without rice! I mean rice has to cost you guys a pretty small fraction no? Just give people 1/2c of rice! If not, at least you should make note of that on your menu so people know ahead of ordering. The garlic Naan is decent really no complaints there, the Mango Lassi they gave me was the size of a kiddy cup (see photo) Literally a child's sippy cup is bigger than what I received for $5 insane! And just to make matters worse, when I opened by bag they placed my gelato directly on top of the hot food! So when I took it out, it had completely melted. $10 for melted pistachio creamy soup, just what I wanted. You guys have to do better for your customers. I get the price increases but for what you are giving and the immense amount of lack of flavors...is wild. Save your money, drive a little bit further and eat some true Indian food in Irvine/Tustin cause this place is not it. We were looking for some good indian food and stumbled upon this restaurant on Yelp. My husband and I decided to give it a shot. As soon as we arrived, we were able to find free parking without any issues. We were seated right after we walked in. They had a variety of dishes to choose from. We got the veggie karahi and garlic naan. My husband also got the chicken kebob. The food came out pretty quickly. The presentation was top notch. The chicken appetizer came with delicious side of mint chutney. The garlic naan was flavorful and soft. However, the karahi masala did not live up to our expectations. It had half a bowl of oil in it. We did request them to switch it out for paneer butter masala and they were nice to switch it. The paneer gravy was tasty and had the right consistency, we just wished it had lesser oil. All in all, we loved the food and would still recommend this spot. read more

Wanted to try a new Indian place we hadn't been to, and are very glad we chose Mint. I had read a review of their Bandar buns in a magazine, and that's what led me to choose Mint The buns were good, but I wouldn't order them again. Also started with the Mint salad. Very large portion and refreshing, but again, I wouldn't order it again. We ordered it because we thought there would be mint in there, but it's just the name of the restaurant! Duh. The rest of the meal was excellent. At our server's recommendation, we tried the chicken karahi, and it was fantastic. We always get chicken tikka masala as well, and their version is solid. Definitely satisfied my craving for Indian food! The chicken tikki masala and tandoori chicken were both pretty tasty. Also got the basmati rice, garlic naan, and the samosa chaat. The interior has a nice ambiance and there's plenty of seats. The service was spotty, admittedly. We barely saw our server throughout our stay and had to ask for water twice. Their food is pretty pricy and the portions aren't too generous. All in all, the quality is there so if you're just going for good tasting Indian food above all else, I'd recommend it. read more

I lived in SE Asia for 20+ years and have always been on the hunt for a great South Asian restaurant. I've experienced some good restaurants in SoCal but not truly great ones. A Pakistani acquaintance recommended Mint to me so my wife and I decided to try it. We ordered a Chicken Karahi, vegetable biryani. and garlic naan. The wait for the food was long, so I asked our very friendly and helpful server how long the food would be. She said the wait for the food was usually 30 minutes or so, as each dish is really cooked from scratch. That explanation worked for me, especially when the food showed up at our table. The Chicken Karahi was served in a large wok and had bone-in chicken, fried pepper, spiced tomato and a great sauce. It was sensational, especially when the sauce was mopped up by the crispy garlic naan. The vegetable biryani was equally great, with charred vegetables, perfectly prepared basmati rice and Thai chili. The quality of the food was not only great, but so was the quantity. We ended up taking most of the biryani home and having it for dinner the next night. The ambiance and decor were also wonderful: a stylish, relaxed setting with vintage South Asian movies playing on a brick wall, well-chosen artworks on another wall. Best Pakistani food we've had so far! We ordered two dishes and they were plentiful. We made sure we ordered traditional Pakistani food and we were happy. The Chicken Karahi was outstanding. A chicken dish cooked in a wok sounds simple but it was the spiced tomato sauce and fried pepper that was simmered in elevated the flavor. The Vegetable Biryani was another dish that got our taste buds excited. It came perfectly well with the Chicken Karahi. We also had garlic naan to enjoy further with the yummy sauce! One small concern though the chicken bones came off easily. The restaurant is pretty with a line of little pictures along the walls and a movie projector showing an old Pakistani movie. A bit of a thing to see because, although service was warm and friendly, the food came on the slow side. It took awhile for our two dishes to arrive but it was worth the wait. I visited Mint on a Sunday evening with my family. Parking was very easy, & the restaurant had a great ambiance. A friend had recommended mint to me and mentioned that it isn't new, but that it recently went through a reconstruction. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We shared the basmati rice, garlic naan, plain naan, & samosa chaat for the table. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, my mom got the chicken biryani, my sister tried the butter chicken, & my dad ordered the chicken curry. The only minor note I had was that the samosa chaat had slightly cooled down by the time we got it, but other than that, everything was delicious, & we were very full by the end of our meal. So really nice place actually a good bit closer to me than the Khan Saab in Fullerton. From my understanding, they are the same ownership and I definitely see the similarities. That being said, there are some differences too, but they're both really good. Now the thing that I loved the most from what I ordered was by far the goat cheese kulcha. The bit of goat cheese inside mixed with the flavor of the truffle on the top is just absolutely delicious. Next thing would be the bandar bun which is super buttery and really, really delicious too. It comes with a mango chutney as well if you're interested in dipping in that. I would say that chicken was decent however I would say it's also a little bit hard to get into just because there's a lot of bone around it so it was kind of a difficult one to try to share. I would probably refrain from getting that one if you're interested in sharing. All of the naan options are really good. We actually ordered every single kind of naan and they're perfect. The servers are attentive and very friendly. Mocktails are also great here too. The drinks and food do take time to come out though so don't come here if you are in a rush to get in and out. Mint is a pleasant surprise, hidden inside an unassuming, if not a bit tired strip mall in Laguna Hills. It has nice, contemporary Indian decor and traditional, as well as non/traditional Indian food. Our server Ahad was great and provided recommendations and attentive service. It should be noted that the bar is dry, serving only non-alcoholic drinks. This modern Pakistani food is on point! The Dani puri and samosa (pictured) were delicious. I've never had this type of samosa, it's loaded with yummy stuff. I'm glad they can do different spice levels. But event with 'no spicy' the samosa still had a kick, which was fine because the puri didn't. The chicken tandoori was also spiced right and was delicious as was the garlic naan. The service was also friendly, but some of these young-ins need a bit of basic table waiting training. I also enjoyed the contemporary decor. I would definitely return. Good to know: food is Indian and Pakistani, they don't serve alcohol, has some 'mocktail' options. If you are looking for some good Indian/Pakistani food I cannot recommend Mint enough. We were served by Waseem and he provided us great drink and good recommendations. We were having trouble deciding what to order because they had such a variety but based off our likes and dislikes, he recommended the Hide n' Seek mocktail, the chicken tikka, and shrimp coconut curry. All three recommendations were superb! The hide n' seek mocktail was soooo refreshing! It had a citric and guava forward taste. It also arrives in a smokey glass which addnotes of wood to the drink. The chicken tikka masala is a classic and in my opinion, they make it the best here. This was the first time I've had chicken breast in chicken tikka masala be so juicy and not super dry. The curry sauce had a depth of flavor that I cannot quite put into words. You will just have to come and try it yourself to understand :p The shrimp coconut curry was also fantastic! It tastes similar to thai coconut curry but less sweet. The shrimp inside was very big, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The food now comes in much smaller portions and is very expensive--we paid $186 for just two people! While the flavor was decent, the dishes were very greasy. Our party of seven celebrated a birthday here on a Saturday afternoon. It was the perfect spot. We met at 2:00, when Mint opened. During our two hours of dining, there were only a few others in the restaurant. This made it very easy for all of us to talk and hear each other. This was our go to Indian -Paki place before they had a fire which closed it for years; we lost hope they would open & finally we made it back here last night . First off I would make a reservation - this is a hopping place! They were gracious about our coming without reservation & we only waited about 5 minutes for a table for 2. Although they do not serve alcohol, they have a terrific menu of mocktails & zero alcohol beer. I loved the mango mojito & my husband his German beer. For apps we had the famous Bandar Bun with mango chutney- so delicious & little balls filled with a creamy yoghourt ( see pic). With dinner we had garlic naan & rice- lamb kebabs & palak paneer. All so fresh & tasty. Too full for dessert & we have some yummy leftovers today! The room is a bit loud but the old movies on the brick wall is very cool & decor interesting . We have been coming here for a while and it never fails to amaze me. We hosted a family Eid dinner and Waseem our host helped us reserve the table and made the whole experience smooth and hassle free. To make things easier we even decided on the menu. It was a little high per person due to Eid but adding lassi & mocktails changed the game. Ended up paying more than expected but totally worth it. For appetizers we had samosa chaat and chili chicken. For main we had chicken karahi goat karahi daal bhindi CTM and their kabab platter and for dessert we had gajrela and kheer. Came for dinner last night with some friends, and had a nice time overall. I really liked the vibe inside the restaurant, with old Bollywood films being projected on a brick wall. The staff were all super nice as well, buutttt service was painfully slow the entire night. After we were seated, we had to wait a decent amount of time to get water and have our order taken, and then had to wait even longer for our drinks and food to arrive. I don't think they've got their timing figured out yet, so I hope they get this sorted soon. On the food front, here's what we ordered: Mint Salad - There was no mint in this and there was nothing remarkable about this, don't bother. Tandoori Chicken - This was good, but I've had better. I wish they did different cuts of chicken and had bigger portions for the price. Chana Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Aloo Gobi (same feedback for all 3)- good but a bit on the oily side. Also super small portion for the price. Chana Samosa - I liked these, but would probably do the plain samosa next time. Garlic Naan - Great, it was fresh so I appreciated that. Overall the food was good, but the miss on the salad, value of food, and the slow service are why I'm giving this place 3 stars. These are all things that can be improved upon so I'd totally give this place another shot. I wouldn't tell anyone to go out of their way to visit this place, but if you're in the area it's worth considering a visit if you're in the mood for Indian food and one of their various NA beverages (which I really enjoyed too). read more

We came here for the first time today, arriving at 2:25 PM. We ordered butter chicken, naan, and chicken biryani. The restaurant was not busy at all, so we expected decent service. Instead, we sat and waited while multiple tables that arrived after us received their food before ours. By 3:05 PM, we still had nothing. I even had to get the server's attention to ask about our order, and his response was simply, "chicken biryani takes time." No apology, no acknowledgement, and not once did anyone check in on us while we sat there. The final straw was watching the family seated next to us -- who came well after we did -- get served their food while we were still waiting. At that point, we got up and left. On the way out, I told the server to cancel the order, and he looked shocked. But honestly, what is there to be shocked about? After 40 minutes with zero food and zero service, leaving was our only option. Extremely disappointing first-time experience. Poor service, no accountability, and no effort to make it right.
