My dad was craving a pulled pork sandwich on Father's Day, and who was I to say no! So, we tried Mabel's for the first time. Dad got the pork sandwich and some BBQ chicken! I got the beef brisket and the hush puppies. The 3 different types of meats were outstanding!!! Tender, juicy, fall of the bone good! They should offer the beef and pork outside of a sandwich (in containers) for larger takeout needs. But those sandwiches serve up a generous portion nonetheless! Not a place to sit and eat, and it's a shame there aren't any picnic tables. It's almost torture to have to wait to get home to eat! Best BBQ in the area. Fall off the bone ribs, tender and well smoked/seasoned pulled pork and brisket, delicious fried/bbq chicken/wings, and best Mac and cheese in the area. Everything I've had on the menu is delicious. I went in for dinner after reopening, and nothing disappointed. The place looks great and now has seating!! We also ordered from Mabel's on 4/27. We waited for roughly 20-30 minutes, and it was well worth the wait. Even while catering to a large inflow of customers, our ribs and pork sandwich came out to perfection! This was honestly some of the best BBQ that I've ever had. Anyone who complains about the quickness of preparation is misguided and should know that quality BBQ is acquired through a process. I called twice to place an order tonight and twice I was placed on hold for 15 minutes. No one ever took me off hold. Not even to apologize for the long wait. The food is good, and I really wanted to share it with some friends who love BBQ. I never would have put up with a long wait otherwise. I am so disappointed with the lack of customer service every time I go there, and tonight has sealed it. I am done patronizing this establishment and I will never tell anyone to go there. Mables Barbeque has the best southern food in West Chester. We have used Mable's BBQ multiple times throughout the years to cater our company lunches for over 130 employees. Our taste buds are never disappointed and there is always more than enough food! The fried chicken is a crowd favorite, and you can't get enough of the mac & cheese. I was craving some BBQ last night and decided to order. I got the medium ribs (1/2 slab-5 bones) which comes with 2 sides. I got mac and cheese and baked beans. Also got a piece of cornbread. I really wanted to like it more, so I had a "go to' place, but was disappointed. I have seen other reviewers complimenting the fall off the bone ribs. Ribs are not supposed to disintegrate! You should have to cut off each rib from the other with a knife. Tender is is good, not falling apart the way mine did. Each bone actually pulled out completely from the mass of meat. To me, that indicates they are boiled or braised partially before being smoked, not smoked for hours and hours like they should be. The cornbread was dry as a bone and crumbled to dust when I grabbed it. The baked beans were fine, but I like canned baked beans. The mac and cheese was literally just macaroni and some cheese, not a thick cheese sauce. The ribs TASTED good and smoky but the sauce lacked any depth, very basic. I know you pay for the convenience of somebody else making the food, but I have made every item I got WAY better at home. Disappointed... read more

First and last visit! First red flag....walking in and seeing an empty beverage refrigerator with only a few sodas. 2nd red flag...before I even ordered, one of the guys said they did not have any candied yams, potato salad or cabbage. Initially I'm thinking how can you be a soul food restaurant without candied yams and potato salad? I asked if I should come on a better day and the guy told me that they sold out of all of these things earlier. Hmmm I don't believe it. If you sell out of candied yams and potato salad, good business is to make more. You can always refrigerate these things for the next day. 3rd red flag...no sweet potato pie or 7Up cake even though these are the only desserts on the menu. How can you not have sweet potato pie? That's a staple in a soul food restaurant! I proceeded with ordering a BBQ wings platter with macaroni and cheese, greens and corn bread. It took a little over 20 minutes to cook. 4th red flag....one of the guys asked if I wanted hot sauce and I say no, bbq sauce on the bbq wings. Hmmm. When I get my food, I look in the bag and he gives me fried wings. I specifically asked for BBQ wings and even reiterated that I wanted bbq sauce when he asked so why did they put fried wings in my platter? When I mentioned it, he said we don't sell BBQ wings. Huh??? It's on the menu and when I ordered it, why didn't you tell me then? He said, I thought you knew we didn't sell BBQ wings....most people come in for the fried wings. First of all how would I know if he doesn't tell me and he knew it was my first time there? He goes to the back with the other guy and they create a sauce for the wings. 5th red flag....I then say you forgot my corn bread. So, both guys go to the back and put a slice of corn bread in my bag. I leave totally disappointed and disgusted with the entire experience. The corn bread had a funny taste so I took one bite and threw the rest away. The greens were good but too salty. The only saving grace was that the fried wings with this store made sauce was actually pretty good. I will never visit again! Maybe I should have visited years ago when they were receiving awards for their food. Hopefully they make some serious changes if they want to remain in business. read more

So disappointing! I heard rave reviews about this place and the first time we went there it was horrible. The place smelled of old grease immediately upon walking in. We went on a Friday around 1 PM, when you would think they would have plenty of food to feed the lunch crowd. Nope. They were sold out of all but two sides, and even some of the main dishes. My husband and I finally had to settle on the pork sandwich (we wanted the brisket) and french fries and onion rings. The french fries were old and stale, the onion rings were also hard- not like crispy, but as in soaked in grease until they were stiff. When we opened the sandwiches- NO SAUCE ON THEM! They gave you two tablespoons of sauce in a little foil wrapped cup to pour yourself. The meat was dry and stringy, and even the good sauce, which was tangy and definitely the highlight, couldn't save it. This place needs to revamp and try harder. West Chester needs a decent soul food and BBQ place! I will not be going back until I hear some changes have been made. read more

Not sure what these other reviewers are talking about. After vowing never to go to this place again, we saw that she was renovating and making changes. Hoped it would be an improvement in how they run the place. Nope! Same issues! No matter when you call or go, they will be out of something. Its so aggravating. And why have a web page with a menu if its wrong? I called to order an entree and per the menu it came with 3 sides. When i called i was rudely told "no". Then what i wanted, they were out of but if i wanted to wait an hour, they were going to get a delivery. Are you serious? This was lunch time. They hadn't been open but an hour and already out of something as simple as chicken wings. Not sure why they are constantly in this predicament. Its annoying beyond explanation and i dont need that when spending my hard earned money. No reason to ever go back. I seriously doubt they care as this has been going on for years. read more

Overpriced, very unsanitary looking place. Sandwich which I paid 8.75 for consisted of half a hoagie roll with a decent amount of meat. Sauce lacked depth, yes I know there is vinegar and sweet style bbq, but I expect a little more flavor than smoke and vinegar. According to her bbq recipe, she put ketchup or tomato sauce in it, I didnt see or taste any. Side of coleslaw was 1/3 liquid, possibly commercially made elsewhere, wasn't that good. I am a fan of bbq, and have eaten anything from the wilds of KY to TN bbq, and everywhere inbetween. This joint doesn't come close to the others I have tasted, used to frequent a place on the DE/MD line, $5 for an overflowing brisket sammie, with onions and peppers, plus a buck or two extra for a drink and chips. That's my idea of real bbq, overflowing, with a little bbq sauce and a couple of sides. Mabels, you disappointed me to the point that I'm thinking about a refund. read more
