Extremely friendly service. Spacious, airy dining room. Ok food. I stopped in for a quick dinner while on a work trip and went with the brisket plate (1/2 lb brisket + 2 sides). The brisket was decent (a little dry), the sauces were delicious. The collared greens had an interesting kick. At first I thought I liked it, but after a while I decided these greens weren't for me. The smoked beans were pretty solid. Picked up dinner Sat night based on reviews from others. In fairness, I didn't want to post a review until I gave Jimmys a chance to respond, but I didn't hear back. We ordered pulled pork and brisket dinners. The pork was eatable. Sides were Cole slaw, which had too much celery seed in it and wasn't flavorful, and collards which were ok. The brisket was terrible, very dry. The burnt top was not appealing or tasty and contributed to the dryness. It was so dry I couldn't eat it. It was worse than bad burnt ends. The cornbread was terrible. It was hard, thin, and dry, like the baking powder wasn't added. The mac and cheese was cheesy, but didn't have any flavor. In light of this, while they're close to my house, we don't plan on returning. read more

Jimmy's BBQ is delicious!! It's located in a shopping center off Lancaster Ave in Malvern. There's plenty of parking in the lot. It's BYOB. It smells like heaven when you open the door. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. There are several BBQ sauce options. We like the vinegar bbq sauce and the sweet and bold one. We ordered the bacon as well as the two meat platter which comes with two sides. We had the brisket and pulled pork with coleslaw and Mac and cheese as our sides. It was more than enough food for two people. They have bottled soda as well as fountain. They have Coke products. We live 30 minutes away, but the drive is worth it. I had a taste for some bbq and decided to check out Jimmy's. The inside was clean and service was friendly. I placed my order online and my food was ready 20 minutes later. I ordered ribs and chicken wings with sides of sweet potatoes and collard greens. The best thing were the ribs. They were not fall of the bone however they had a good smoky flavor and was seasoned well. Everything else was not good to me. The wings were too tough and did not taste like they were grilled. The sweet potatoes tasted like they were just mashed up, which in a way I can appreciate, cause it gave healthy.... and the greens had a sweet taste... just no for me. I had lunch there recently, checking the place out across a range of food, as I was considering it for a large catered family event based on other Yelp reviews. I had a half rack of ribs, their "3 meat" sampler of pulled pork, brisket and Andouille sausage. Sides were baked beans and cornbread, both of which were quite good. However the pulled pork and brisket were dried out and essentially tasteless. If you added one of their -- very good BTW -- sauces, they were tasty, but just because of the sauce, not the meat. You could accomplish the same thing with a slab of tofu covered in the sauce. The ribs were very tender, but then again lacking flavor unless covered in sauce, again where tofu could have been substituted. Also annoying is that their machine won't process your credit card until you first select the size of the tip you are leaving, when a tip really isn't appropriate given that you place your order at the counter, sit at a table, and they simply bring the food to you in paper containers and you never see the server again, no different than McDonalds. I was really hoping for terrific BBQ for the event that I am planning, but that didn't materialize. Darn shame. read more

My husband & I went to Jimmy's BBQ for the first time today. Overall, I think it is pretty good, especially given how hard it is to find good BBQ in the Philadelphia & suburbs area. I'm from the south and have lived in 8 states; most places I have lived has had good BBQ joints. I prefer the Texas style sauce to the NC vinegary sauce but I will eat either if it's good. Jimmy's has both, and also a hot sauce. They were all good. We should have gotten different things today but we were both in the mood for a sandwich so we both got a pulled pork sandwich. Nothing at all wrong with the pork, it was quite delicious in fact, but the bun was miserable. It was very dry and did nothing to complement the pork. I dumped sauce all over both sides of my sandwich and it was still too dry. Coleslaw on top of the pulled pork may have helped a little - maybe some bread & butter pickles - but it was really about the bun and the bun was all wrong. Brioche would be nice, or Potato Rolls - something a little soft but strong with a touch of sweetness is what is needed for Pulled Pork. Even a Kaiser Roll or a cheap hamburger bun would be better than the ones they serve. I ended up abandoning half of my sandwich because it was so dry. We got 3 sides (they were out of collards/said it was a supply issue): Mac & Cheese, Whipped Sweet Potatoes, & Smoked Beans. Personally, I would make the sauce in the beans a little thinner but the flavor was fantastic. The Mac & Cheese was very gummy but it also had a nice flavor, and the Sweet Potatoes were great. I would work on the recipes for the Mac & Cheese and the Smoked Beans but they are edible the way they are. I just think they could be a lot better if they had a slightly different texture. We don't live in the Malvern area but we will make it a destination to drive out and try Jimmy's again. Next time I will try the ribs, and maybe the cornbread (but I'm a cornbread snob) but I really hope they do something to improve their buns because we both love Pulled Pork sandwiches! We liked the space despite the smell in the hallway and bathrooms. I think it was an unpleasant smelling room deodorizer or some kind of cleaner. Paper towels on the tables is always a good sign, and the staff were very, very pleasant. Nice to know that this place exists. read more

We are just visiting family,Jimmy's was recommended as a good place to eat. They use fresh ingredients and dry rub their meat. The taste tells the story. You know the food is good, when you don't need any sauce on the meat. If you case you don't know, the bacon is the bomb. The owner is very friendly and attentive. You can smell the smoke in the parking lot. Smells so good it makes your mouth water. The sides are good also. My suggestion is to order your food first, and don't go right before closing. That is what we did, and we were very lucky they had food left. We watched as several people were turned away This place is a treat. This may have been some of the worst bbq I've ever had. I LOVE bbq so I was so excited to try this place out. The Yelp photos looked good-ish and the reviews were promising, but I was so disappointed. I got the pulled brisket sandwich with a side of coleslaw. Let's start with the slaw. It was too sweet for my liking and too many celery seeds in it. The ratio of meat to bun was bad but even worse when most of the meat was fat. A little fat isn't bad but so much fat that I had to pull it off so the bun to meat ratio was even worse. I ended up taking off the top part of the bun and eating an open faced sandwich. The taste of the meat was also disappointing. It almost tasted boiled, not smoked. To compensate for the lack of flavor some seasoning is sprinkled on top of the meat. I've never seen that before on bbq'ed meat. My husband had 1/2 lb of brisket and beans. I didn't even attempt to try to beans. We left hungry. read more

I keep hoping that Jimmy's BBQ improves but my 5th and FINAL delivery order tonight was very disappointing. I ordered a half rack of ribs, spicy sausage sandwich and side of cole slaw. The ribs were utterly flavorless. No spice was anywhere to be found. No sauce on them whatsoever. Fat wasn't rendered down enough IMHO as well. I ended up throwing out the Cole slaw after one bite. Tasted off, cabbage was beyond soggy and had a strange tang to it. The spicy sausage sandwich was very mediocre. I keep reading all of the rave reviews and I keep trying it over and over but get the same result. Best BBQ on the East Coast? Not in my top 100. I hope you re-examine your recipes, cooking methods and actually taste your food. Because right now, it's unedible. read more

It had no flavor and was very dense. As I put butter on it and cut it, a small black bug came out and was running around. I tried to kill it and then another one came out. At that point I wrapped the corn bread back up and threw it away. One star. I ordered the wings but they were undercooked and did not seem smoked very long. One star. The brisket was delicious but more fat than meat. The bacon was delicious but again more fat than meat. The beans were delicious. The bbq sauces were delicious. Those items were delicious but not better than other bbq I have been to. For these reasons, I give 3 stars for the brisket, bacon, and beans. My friend and I had lunch today at Jimmy's BBQ on Lancaster Ave in Frazer, Pa. I have been going to Jimmy's for at least 14 years and have countless excellent meals there. At one time or another I have tried everything on the menu. The Ambiance is "BBQ JOINT. The service is friendly, helpful and competent. The food is excellent good old American BBQ. I had been here some years before while visiting Longwood, and I guess my memory had faded about it. More recently, I was here for lunch with a friend. Both of us ordered BBQ sandwiches - my friend opted for brisket, and I went with pulled pork. It wasn't crowded, so we got our food pretty quickly, but both of us agreed that the meat was kind of dry. Their sauces are tasty, but they're rather needed; otherwise, our sandwiches were dry. Another thing I had forgotten about from before but was reminded of, they unfortunately don't have AC, so it was pretty warm in there, being the middle of summer. We've been getting Jimmy's consistently for the past 4 months and it's always amazing. The ribs aren't your typical "fall-off-the-bone" ribs, they are tender yet have a bit of chew to them, extremely meaty, & full of all of that smokey flavor - but this review isnt about the ribs... just a couple days ago I had the best brisket sandwich of my LIFE ( and Im usually not a brisket girl ). In my opinion, brisket is usually always dry and tough, but this was literally the most moistest ( sorry! ) and flavorful brisket I've ever had - paired with the coleslaw and a little bit of bbq sauce this was sensational. After seeing many 4 star reviews for this place. i had to try it. Cmon people 2-3 stars at best. Food was just ok not great bbq. Ribs, brisket, Salmon seemed more grilled or roasted rather than smoked bbq. Maybe cause it was reheated or something. i'm not sure. But meats were dry and missing that smoky flavor, ring and bark that you get from great slow & low bbq places. read more

Fat Jacks is opening soon a short ride away. And I'm certain that's a concern. So maybe it's time to step up the game here. I got a three meat sampler. The sausage I tried was decent. The pulled pork was decent too if not overly flavorful (designed to taste the sauce better I am sure). The brisket came out on the dry side and a bit tough. Barbecue is a tough thing to get right on a consistent basis. Maybe the brisket has been better and I just came back on an off day. But once the competition gets going, I'm going to have a choice for BBQ in this area. A lot of people will. If I'm the owner of this fine establishment, I might want to take a hard look at what I'm serving. Barbecue is a proud and competitive world. There really isn't room for slips in quality, especially to charge the prices that good barbecue demands. If I'm paying $22 for the combo, that brisket better be close to the best I've had. Solid BBQ joint! I LOVED their ribs. Smoky, a bit of char, and well seasoned. It was firm, not overcooked to the point where it falls right off the bone but can be pulled off with a little tug. I think that's the perfect texture for ribs and makes eating ribs fun. It's satisfying to pull the connective tissue off the bone :) I also can recommend their sweet sausage. It's not overly sweet by any means. Texture is perfect. Honestly, I had leftovers the next day and it tasted even better cold! Their brisket was lean and a bit dry but great with BBQ sauce. Same with the pulled pork. I did not love their choices of BBQ sauce. Their sweet BBQ is overly molasses. If you mix their sweet and hot, it's great! I'm not a big fan of vinegar in general but did think it worked well with the sausage and pulled pork. Collard greens and Mac were just okay. Collard greens lacked some umph in flavor. Mac is a wet version and had some bread crumbs on top which was nice touch. Overall, definitely get you some ribs. And try anything else that catches your eye! read more

Second time coming to Jimmy's bbq and I can tell you that it's one of the top spots in terms of taste for bbq in Philly. My favorite item is the brisket because of how tender it is. It break apart so easily and also they add some seasoning after ontop too. The chicken leg and thigh is also really good, especially for that price. Definitely my go to spot in the Malvern area every time I come through. Also the BBQ sauces they have are excellent. They have a sweet sauce, spicy, and vinegar based one.
