When we started our search for a landscaper, we reached out to friends who had recently redone their backyard. Immediately, they recommended Miguel and MAC Landscaping. Funny enough, we had also reached out to a contractor we had previously worked with on a remodel in our house to see if he had any suggestions, and his answer was exactly the same - Miguel at MAC Landscape. Needless to say, we went with MAC. Miguel and his team completely transformed both our front and back yards. We had purchased a home that had existing landscaping that got completely out of control, and we didn't know where to start. Miguel and his team from MAC Landscape were pretty awesome. We had several projects to do in the backyard and front yard. We acquired quotes from a few providers. While the quote from MAC wasn't the cheapest for several projects, we ended up relying on MAC for all projects. Here's why. On the day of in-person consultation to get a quote, Miguel and the other guy arrived on time. They did measurements of the project areas based on the illustration that I shared in advance. Some observations about them caught my attention. One example is that they mentioned that in the spec the height of the retaining wall was too tall to sit on, and proposed workarounds to lower it. It was indeed my concern when I was putting together the spec, but they brought it up without me asking which was a nice surprise. The other example is that they noticed the messy work I did to extend the downspout, and proposed that they could redirect the water to an area away from the house under the artificial turf that was already part of the design. It was a nice integration of the new idea with the spec. The interaction was very smooth and pleasant, and hence I decided to go with them after we worked together to adjust the cost based on the budget and were able to reach a deal. One more thing to call out was that during negotiation, I could tell that Miguel really cared about the quality of work. There was an installation method that would obviously drive the cost down, but he was concerned about the robustness of the method and thus was going against it, which I was glad that he did. Now, for the actual construction, the highlights: - The team was easy to work with. They arrived before 8am every morning, but started the work at 8am sharp. They were all very polite, hardworking, and helpful. Aside from the designated work, they also helped me with small things here and there and I appreciate their willingness to help. - They shared ideas on improvements. There were factors that my original project plan did not consider. When they found such issues or had suggestions, they talked to me, proposed solutions and let me decide. Sometimes the new features might cost more; however, throughout the interaction, I never felt that I was pushed to sign off work that'd significantly increase the cost. They also absorbed the cost for some of such improvements. The result turned out to be better than what I put together. - Miguel came to the site from time to time. He was consistent in his focus on quality. When I brought up things to improve, he was willing to get the team to fix them. - The project finished in accordance with the original estimation. It did not linger for long. There were of course areas that could've been done better. Specifically, I wish the communication could've been more frequent and efficient. For example, I was hoping that the plan for the next day was shared, especially if there were further things to discuss. The discussions on the materials took a few back-and-forth to clarify. However, none of these issues should overshadow the positives. The positives made it easy to not care too much about these issues, and the end result was great. As the last remark, I very much enjoyed chatting with Miguel. He strives to do good work and treat others well. After going through the whole project and meeting the team I really hope that they succeed and thrive in the business. read more

This is the second time we have worked with Miguel and his team on building our dream backyard. This time MAC Landscaping built us the most INCREDIBLE putting green we could have asked for. We were very specific in wanting three different types of artificial grass for the rough, fringe and putting surface and it came out PERFECTLY with slight elevation. I was referred to Miguel by two separate friends while shopping around for quotes for our backyard. His proposal came in reasonably priced and honest, his communication was spot on, and the end results were delivered earlier than expected and is everything we wanted. During the quote process, Miguel was one of the only contractors who spent time to explain to us why we needed to demo more concrete as the previous owners had covered the crawl space vents (which is not great as you'd want to allow that area to be able to dry out). Meanwhile, we had another contractor who wanted to cut corners and said "we don't need to demo, just lay your pavers on top". During the work itself, Miguel made sure to ask us questions along the way wrt materials, came with seasoned suggestions, and his team came daily (including weekends!) to deliver excellent craftsmanship meticulously. 10/10 would recommend Miguel and his team for your landscaping needs. I contacted Miguel regarding a project to redo our backyard which was overrun by weeds and vines. It was in rough shape and had cracked concrete with a rotting redwood deck. Miguel came over and gave me an estimate shortly after his on-site visit. He didn't charge for an estimate like some of his competitors did which was very nice. His estimate was also below others that i had requested as well. I gave Miguel drawings of what i had in mind and after he reviewed them, he made some suggestions to not only speed up the project's delivery but also to save some money which i thought was excellent. His team started promptly the following week and within a few days, they had demolished the entire backyard to prepare for the project.
