We had a big project to completely renovate the front and backyard of our home. Out of the numerous quotes we got, we chose to hire Hills Landscaping for the following reasons: 1. They were always prompt in their response throughout the entire process, not just in the beginning. 2. Their prices were reasonable. I've gotten quotes that were significantly more expensive from other contractors. The proposal they sent was reasonably detailed enough to give me confidence they would do a good job After hiring them, I mainly communicated with Antonio, Jose, Erica, and Nelli. Antonio, the owner of the company, is easy to work with and communicates effectively, and responds to your text messages throughout the process. Beyond being (from what I've seen) almost the most reasonably priced landscaper out there, Antonio was incredibly responsive, flexible, and professional throughout the project. We made numerous changes -- increasing and changing plant selections; adjusting hardscape requirements twice; adding in two incredibly heavy (1000 pound + for one of them) water features; and adding in additional landscape lighting at the last minute. Throughout, his crews worked hard and were incredibly friendly (Tomas was outstanding and led the site crew for the project with Antonio checking in regularly and ensuring that the project was moving on-time and done really well). The hardscaping was beautiful, and the landscaping has turned out fantastic. We went from almost never using our back yard, and just looking at the grass out front, to using our back yard as a sort of retreat daily, with our friends and family astonished at how beautifully everything turned out. If you are under the plan for new landscaping, you must check with Hills landscaping. I found this company from yelp and compared it with multiple quotes and decided to work with Hills landscaping. Here are the pros and cons and why you need to consider this company. Pros : 1. Contract: I heard many landscaping projects are hard due to lack of contract and payment issues. When I got the first quote from Hills landscaping, they provide 6 pages of quotes, contract details including warranty, payment plan, etc. It has all the details in the contract and both need to sign to start the project so it can protect the company and myself. 2. Payment: this company provides a payment plan with 5-7 payments. Also, I pay when one of the work is finished. No need to worry about any payment plan. 3. Diligent: They start work from the first day we contract and every day they worked except when it is rain and material was not available. They contact me every day in the morning when they cannot work due to rain or material issues so I do not need to worry about they are working or not. 4. Professional: All the workers are professional and knowledgeable so when I ask any worker about the process, material, I can get the answer. I asked for some modification and it is always considered during the project and I love the final landscaping that we have. 5. Communications: From the quote request to the final walkthrough, I communicate with Hills landscaping with 90 emails, more than 15 times call. Most of the time, I can get the answer in a few hours and not any case over the one day to get the response. They even contact me on weekends so I was impressed with their communication. 6. Quality: We love the new paving, fence, retaining wall, putting green!. See the result in the attached photos. 7. Antonio!! : Antonio and Fermin are a great team to make our project. Cons : 1. We hired Hills to level the soil, add grass and irrigation to our back yard. They also added a 50 foot dog run with artificial turf alongside the house. They also matched some pavers in front of the home. Amazing work and super great team. Antonio has assembled some super nice and respectful team members that do great work. We reached out to a few business to install turf over our newly demolished pool, plus do some repair work for small items around the construction site including repairing broken brickwork, filling in patio cracks and a new drainage strip. Antonio and his crew did an amazing job to my backyard! They removed all the dead grass and added pavers, artificial grass, trimmed the edges with rocks, and installed 3 metal poles for my sail shade. Originally they specked out 2-2.5 wks for the work, in which I timed being off work/going out of town for a week. I also had 2 large dogs so timing was very imperative. They managed to do the work in a week! We did the final walk and I am so happy with the work they have done! It's also the small things that makes me want to hire Hills Landscape again: my house was built in 1940 so a lot of the wiring is out of date. When they dug up the grass they cracked the piping of the electrical that feeds from the main house to the garage, supposed to be buried deeper but was not. They notified me right away and replaced the piping with no electrical issues. They also placed 3 drip systems for my bougainvillea since am not going to have the sprinkler running. Lastly, the metal poles they installed, they welded the top so if it ever rains, water would not go in and welded rings so I can hook the shade sail. I really appreciate them taking the extra step to understand what I was trying to achieve with the meal posts. Communication was good for the most part, if I emailed Antonio, he usually was able to respond back within the day. I will definitely hire them when I am ready to renovate my front yard! read more

For remodeling my backyard, I interviewed dozens of landscaping companies. Many were not responsive, some could not even speak English, were not attentive to the design, and were exorbitantly expensive. Antonio excelled in all these departments. He was responsive in replying to emails, came for a site visit, understood the design very well, and provided a competitive quote. He made the decision process very easy. As the project went underway, his team was very flexible in adapting to the changes, and delivered more than what was originally agreed upon. His team was kind enough to help secure/procure the plants at a reasonable price. He was able to make suggestions to improve the design by suggesting a wooden raised bed, which turned out to be beautiful and saved me some money in the end. We chose Hills Landscaping for our hardscaping project which was to replace about 1300 square feet of our backyard with a hardscape. We talked to several contractors including one very skilled with pavers.   We stuck with our initial idea of concrete though we understand that concrete can crack before pavers show similar wear. Hills Landscaping offered a lower estimate than others proposed for stamped concrete.   Hills agreed to meet HOA requirements regarding the drains.   The project was complex and we learned a lot watching them do it.  It even involves providing toilet facilities for the workers removing earth.   Those guys don't need gyms, just lots of water.  When we had concerns, Hills addressed them.  We thought the project might have caused a problem with the lines that take electric power into the back.  The manager found the reset mechanism (not a breaker) that had turned it off due to water.  They also completed a few extra tasks for us - e.g. removing an unwanted tree stump. Photos show our backyard before work had begun (we had removed most of the grass and weeds) and after  completion.  We chose stamped concrete partly because some stamped concrete was already there. Hills did not promise a perfect match, but it matches well enough and we are happy with the results. read more
