This is exactly what food truck food should be- easy, fun, and fast without skrimping on flavor! At a recent event with a line up of food trucks, Mac Shack stuck out at me because they had the longest line. Between their apparent popularity and the enticing discription of buffalo mac -n- cheese, I waited my turn. What I got was a heavy and heavenly portion of their buffalo mac-n-cheese. So simple yet so tasty- it was comfort food at its finest. Blu cheese crumbles, green onions, and BBQ chicken bits in thick cheesy noodles. Totally worth the few extra bucks especially compared to the sad, carni food at the booth next to it.

    Cluck Like a Buffalo! YUM!

Ordered a mini "Cluck like a buffalo" and it was absolutely amazing! Chicken was tender & juicy, onions and bleu cheese were not overpowering and of course the mac itself was awesome! It was the perfect amount of cheesy. The mini was perfectly filling and still left a little room for samples as I strolled through the market. I could eat mac and cheese every day for the rest of my life and I wouldn't mind ordering it from the Mac Shack every time! I can't wait to come back and try some of the other creative concoctions.

Papa Smurf (caramelized mushrooms, onions, Parmesan cheese) at Mo Pop Festival

Papa Smurf (caramelized mushrooms, onions, Parmesan cheese): I tried this during the past weekend at the Mo Pop music festival. This was good. The noodles were cooked well and the cheese sauce was rich and creamy, making a good base. The sauce felt slightly grainy(?) to me though, like it wasn't completely smooth. The caramelized onions were my favorite, as they added a hint of sweetness. The mushrooms were also nice, although not too flavorful. There was Sriracha, which I added for a spicy kick. Overall, I enjoyed my mac & cheese, and I would consider getting this again if I was in the area. However, the price was rather high... It was $9 for a cup, which was a good portion, but left me feeling a bit hungry afterwards. I know everything is expensive at festivals, but I felt like this wasn't the best value.

Mac Shack was at Eastern Market when I ventured downtown with my daughter. We arrived a little later in the day, and was happy to see almost everything on the small menu was still available. We opted for one item so we could try other trucks. We ordered " the bacon made me do it ". It was good. It was Mac n cheese with bacon ( of course ) and tomato, we ordered with bacon only. It wasn't greasy, totally goey, and yummy. It was $7, on par for a food truck.

Ever since I was little, I've LOVED mac & cheese. And Mac Shack does it great. I first sampled them at the Yelp After School Special event, where I got a small cup full of their plan mac, & added some crumbled bacon on top. Mmmmm...so smooth, creamy, and delicious. And the bacon was true chunks of thick, crumbled bacon - no baco-bits here! I was in love. I made it a point to catch them about a week later, when they were parked in Midtown at Great Lakes Coffee, accompanying their "Tacos and Tequila" night with some spicy, mexican inspired mac. I don't recall the name of what I ordered, but it had shredded chicken, jalapeno, tomato and onion. It packed a kick of spice and was DELICIOUS! It's pricey for what you get, portion wise. And as a mobile truck, you obviously can't find them in the same spot all the time. But, I look forward to the next time I have a few extra bucks for lunch and happen upon this glorious rolling haven of cheesy noodle goodness - I'll be a happy girl!

Went to the food truck at Detroit Fleet. Ordered a basic Mac for my daughter. After a couple bites the whole bottom was burnt. When I approached the guys working about it they tried to tell me it was just caramelized cheese. No, it's black. If that's you tray customers and are proud of that, fine. Will not be ordering again.

My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner here, and I'm glad that we got to experience it. We arrived in advance of our reservation and grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender brought us a glass of wine while we waited. It took about a half hour, but we were shown to our table for the night and promptly greeted by our server. All of the food looked amazing, both on the menu and with what people were ordering at other tables. We chose a variety of dishes - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, squid ink orecchiette, octopus, mushrooms, and scallops. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!

I went straight for the Cracker Jack Old Fashioned -- caramel-infused bourbon with actual Cracker Jacks. Sounds fun, tastes incredible. One of the more creative cocktails I've had in a long time. The drink selection here is extensive and the bartenders clearly know what they're doing. For dinner I had a medium rare steak cooked to perfection with potatoes -- classic done right. First, the restaurant is up two flights of steps and there is no elevator. I injured my knee and walked up the stairs. Second, when I was seated and shown the menu, I was shocked at the very limited options. They only offer white- meat chicken, no rice or plain sides. I was going to try the greens but the server said they put vinegar on them which I don't care for. The Brussels sprouts with corn is a hard pass. I had no other choice but ordered something that I would never put together as a meal: fried catfish, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts with corn. The fish was fried hard and needed seasoning and the sprouts were forgettable. They brought out hot sauce on the side assuming all people want hot/ spicy food. I wanted tartar sauce and they didn't have a traditional sauce- they had a " Cajun- style sauce." My friend had a crab cake for $25. When I called about parking, the hostess mentioned the cash lot behind the restaurant and.a parking structure across the street. She didn't mention that it was extremely expensive, I paid $24.49 for 1 hour and 6 minutes in the structure. Oh, I almost forgot that they added a 20% gratuity automatically for a party of 2! So, overall, my catfish dinner, 1 crab cake appetizer, and $2 up charge for the Brussels brought my bill to $74. Plus, the $24.49 for parking was a $100 night with no liquor only to have to leave and go eat elsewhere as what I wasted money on left me hungry and unsatisfied for sure.

They were so much flavor in the two bites I had since we split them in half. The branzino was good I have had better and the sides that it came with were a little on the small side it was Swiss chard and there was suppose to be romesco in it but I didn't see any and just a few pieces of fingerling potatoes. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and came sliced already the sides were plentiful and flavorful. The lamb chops were very small and not a lot of pieces and didn't really come with any sides. For dessert we split the Citrus Cheesecake and Trilece Cake. The cheesecake was very creamy and light the citrus taste was very pronounced and so fresh there wasn't any kind of artificial taste to it at all. The cake was delicious the cream on top was light and fluffy, cake was soft and moist, the sauce at the bottom gave it that extra touch that made it one of the best things I ate that night.

After being closed a year the new owners opened it back up as a craft slider "bar". There is nothing fancy about this restaurant. Its decor is basic wood tables and chairs in the center with booths lining one side of the space and a bar on the other. The staff are casual about you being there - there is no fanfare. When we arrived, we checked in at the host stand to get our names on the wait list. They text you when your table is ready. The place was full when we got there but the turnover was quick. We didn't wait more than 10 minutes and were seated in a booth. The menu is all sliders on one side and fries, salads, and sweets on the other. Fairly simple and the prices are beyond reasonable. The server told us most people get 3 sliders and fries. I did that plus I got a Moscow Mule to drink - it was only $5! I chose the Double Cheeseburger, Spicy Crispy Chicken (with a slice of provolone added), Olive Burger, and the Truffle Fries. Everything is served as soon as it's made so your items arrive at different times, which was fine by me. Each slider was served in its own cardboard "dish". Again, nothing fancy. The Olive Burger was really good - served with green olives and cheese on top of a beef burger. I liked the saltiness of the olives - it added to the total taste in a positive way. The Double Cheeseburger was actually pretty big so I would just get the single next time. And the Spicy Crispy Chicken was recommended by our server. He suggested adding the provolone slice, which I did. That was basically a buffalo chicken sandwich. And it was good! The truffle fries were excellent - you could really taste the truffle seasoning/oil. I also liked that they were the skinny type of fries.
