Met my husband at Macado's the other day for lunch. We thought that we would try it once again. I ordered the ragtime sandwich. It was all gristle and fat. When I informed the waitress she said she went to talk to the manager who took 40% off the sandwich, just the sandwich. So was I paying 60% for the gristle or the fat?? I didn't even eat 1/3 of it, but the manager could not come out and talk to us. Folks if you want a good meal the Brew House is wonderful Uptown Café is awesome there are many other better places. Did you go to college in a tiny town? Remember that one place that wasn't any good, but you went every weekend, just because it was there? That's MacAdo's for you. It's a cool atmosphere, with a big patio and a super long menu comprised mostly of amped-up sandwiches. Reading the menu, everything looked great and I was excited for a good meal. ... I was seriously disappointed. The french onion soup was completely inedible and there were no onions to be found. The black bean queso was melted Velveeta with a couple of black beans thrown in. My Julius Caesar sandwich was okay, but nothing that I'd ever order again. And to top it all off, the service was abysmal. Totally ditzy, forgetful, and slow. Apparently this is the norm, especially on weekends. But hey, pitchers of Yuengling were $8.25, and in a college town, that's pretty much all you need. read more

The burger was well cooked and the toppings were fresh. The bun was actually tasty and fresh. The fries were crisp. The black bean queso was on point and had a good kick. This is a decent place. The staff is nice but if you are outside they have to do a lot of traveling, but it is clear they are trying. Outside is preferred to inside her because it is just better. Inside is just tight and a little musty. Food is slightly above average. Other locations are better so the potential is there. These guys need to step it up a little. The food was okay. My turkey sandwich actually had too much meat for my liking, but that's a personal preference. My husband said his Reuben was okay. There's not a hole lot to say about average sandwiches. The menu is huge and the decor is entertaining to see. It was very busy and loud (Friday lunch!) and seems to be popular with families. Very disappointed with the beer selection. The menu says craft beer is a specialty, but Sam Adams was a crafty as it got, which is a shame with so many local breweries to choose from. While they're known for their sandwiches this is still one of the best places to get wings or a burger with a pint in town, as well. Their desserts are also great! It's a family run chain. Quick service and a good time with your friends! They're building a large patio which will be great for summer seating and hopefully large groups because currently the inside can get a bit loud and cramped -- only due to how popular they are. The sandwiches are kinda mediocre, but sandwiches usually are... their quesadillas are pretty good and so is the broccoli cheese soup, artichoke dip, and tater skins. If you want to wait an hour for mediocre food, this is the place for you! You will most likely be surrounded by a vibrant, loud, college crowd after waiting anywhere from 10-30 mins for a table. Just do yourself a favor and order a water otherwise you will die of thirst. However, if you keep your order simple I doubt it will come out any faster so aim high. Also- make sure you have EVERYTHING you need before your waiter steps away, including the check, you will never see her again. read more

Our family went to Macados on Sunday. We had recently gone to a Macados in Christiansburg and really enjoyed the burgers. Unfortunately they were not so good at this location. Two of us got burgers and could only take a few bites. On the positive, the cheese fries and the fried pickles were good. Macado's is a great little place in Farmville, VA. I find the atmosphere to be nice and relaxed which makes for a great place to go with friends. The service is usually pretty good, and if you're a college student you're likely to run into other people from school on any given night. The food itself is also quite good and reasonably priced. I am a big fan of their quesadillas, the diablo is my favorite and has a nice unique taste to it. I had a Pastrami Reuben and you'd never be able to tell the difference between it and one you'd get at Harold's Jewish Deli in New York City. The generous portion of pastrami was so tender that each morsel was easy to bite off without being rubbery and stringy. The rye, infused with the subtle sweetness of caraway seeds, was grilled to perfection and impervious to the hot juices of sauerkraut. Not my first time at this restaurant but highly disappointed and it could be my last. Most of the staff is new and it shows. It took us almost an hour on a Friday to get our lunch. We ordered a chef salad, burger, tacos, and 2 kids meals. The waiter did not bother to stop by our table to refill drinks or even update us on why it was taking so long. His other table next to us wasn't bussed for about 20 minutes and it was the hostess that had to clean it. The manager was wonderful and very apologetic. We arrived at 12:15 and by 1:40 we paid for our drinks and appetisers and left because we still had no food as we asked another waitress for the check, Crappy service and not served. Did not feel welcomed at all. Had to run the waitress down to get refills on drinks and served warm cosmopolitan and martini at that. Substandard and not even mediocre. Previous trips have been good, but on this July 4th we decided to try the burgers. NEVER try pass off a cheap frozen patty as a $8.00 hamburger! Why would you even try to do that? Every single thing about the sandwich, other than the patty itself was perfect. Great bun, bacon, onion ring, barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato, and sauce were all great, but it was ruined by a cheap, perfectly formed, dry, grey over compacted, tasteless slab of blecht! I'll go back to Macado's, because they other great offerings, but I'll never order another burger there, unless someone guarantees it's from fresh ground beef. read more
