We were drawn in by the soft pretzels for our youngest. I had low expectations, thinking bar in college town. What a surprise to have delicious food with fresh ingredients and not just the regular tired old bar fare. They have a long menu, especially lots of sandwiches, with many options. A pretty good sandwich when they get it right. My friend and I are in town for work and Macado's came highly recommended! Unfortunately, the menu is slightly overwhelming- hope you don't get decision fatigue easily. I ended up ordering the Carpetbagger (sliced steak, red onions, lettuce, tomato and cheddar) and it was was simple but tasty. My counterpart ordered a custom sandwich and she asked for NO coleslaw, but they apparently didn't see that. The nice thing was that once we pointed out the mistake they were happy to remake it. It just took longer and I was already mostly done with my meal by the time she started eating. This was our first time to a Macados and it did not disappoint! When we walked up there were 3 parties waiting in front of us and I figured it would take a while after hearing that they had no hostess and 4 servers were wearing all the hats required to run the place. Although they were scrambling, we were seated by the same waitress who took our names within 10 minutes. The atmosphere was great for families, decorated in penants, fishing memorabilia and multiple TV screens showing games. I was highly impressed with our waitress who never let us have empty cups and was prompt with drink and order taking as well as checking in on us. We started with totchos which were good, although I like Firefly's better. I had a Tonto sandwich which was delicious and very filling. My husband had the Wild Bill burger which he thought was amazing. Our kids were happy with pizza, quesadillas and hot dog, respectively. Both the regular and kids menus are extensive and have large portions that left us with plenty of leftovers for dinner. They also have a nice selection of beer on tap. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean and we had a great experience here! Wish we had one closer to CVille, I'm sure it would be a hit. read more

Had the best server at Macado's today. Even with the lunch time rush and a full room Ashlee J was on everything and super helpful. The burgers are always really good and my kids have liked everything they've tried there. The boomer burger is the best and the spinach and artichoke dip is delicious. read more

Service was horrible for 1 pm. Ordered the chips, dips and things, it was awful. The pretzel was anything but soft and it was frozen on the inside. The salsa was gross. The house made chips were the best thing in the basket. No sports on the televisions, I'm not there to watch the Family Feud. Bartender barely even acknowledged us. Stopped for a late lunch/early dinner while hitting the streets of Farmville. We chose Macado's because they have an outdoor seating area, and the weather was very nice. The outdoor area isn't that large (maybe a half dozen tables), but there was only one other table in use while we were there. My wife had the cashew chicken salad, which was huge, and I had the Wild Bill Burger....which was also huge. Also ordered an appetizer of Bang Bang Shrimp, which was good. The entrees we had ordered were very good. They also had a very nice draft beer selection. Wouldn't hesitate to stop in here again on another visit. read more

The waitress Alexis there is the rudest waitress I've ever had in my lifetime. She never smiles, acts annoyed the whole time she is taking your order, and doesn't come back to check on her tables. We have had her as a waitress numerous times and every time it's the same thing. I love Macados food but she really gives this restaurant a bad look. read more

It was a crazy afternoon on New Year's Day. You could tell that they didn't expect this type of crowd. Our weight staffed was exceptionally good when we sat at the bar. Love the new garage space. I would highly recommend it for casual afternoon or a quick spot stop in the evening. read more

Exactly value especially considering the low cost. The fish tacos were easily 2 meals.

Food was ok, lots of choices. Service was horrible. Was given a choice of 3 tap beers from our server only to find out there are around 10 choices. 45 minutes to get 2 sandwiches, up charge for fries added without server mentioning it at time of order. Wouldn't have changed the decision but a good server makes sure there are no surprises. Finished meal and had to chase down server for check only to find multiple mistakes for which the response was "oh I need to get the manager". Another 15 minutes and we tracked the manager down. Overall I will skip this place in the future and find something else. read more

My school ordered lunch for teachers participating in an event today. I ordered a Lone Ranger with fruit salad. I got a tiny, stale, not toasted bagel. Inside were two thin slices of pastrami that had been thrown in a pan until stiff and dry. There was a trace of Swiss cheese and a few strands of shredded cabbage. I figured I'd at least eat the fruit salad, but it smelled fermented and the one piece of cantaloupe I ate was starting to be fizzy. Absolutely gross. I honestly hope nobody got sick from eating the fruit salad. Clearly I did not select this restaurant, and after this, I don't think I ever will. read more

The food and atmosphere is great, I wish I could say the same for the service. We were seated at a dirty table, I had to ask the waitress to please clean it, she reluctantly wiped it with a very wet cloth and left it wet. We had to dry it with our napkins. She was slow at taking our orders and didn't come by our table to ask if we needed anything else or how was our food. Stopped here for an early lunch and sat outside-my husband and I had the totchoes (really really tasty!). I had the barnyard sandwich and my husband has the carpetbagger sandwich. The sandwiches were larger than life and really tasted awesome! We couldn't finish all of the sandwich because the totchoes were also a large portion. We took the rest to go. Macado's is a nice local restaurant which experienced its peak in the late 80s, with several locations around the Commonwealth of Virginia. Although the chain is closed several locations. Always the same college friendly atmosphere, which is still appealing for locals and families. Fun sandwiches quirky decor worth eating at any of their locations when you run across one. read more

My work gives me short breaks to pick up food. I order online and give them AT LEAST 2 hours lead. The last two times I was there on time and my food had not even been started. I explained my situation and was told to wait. I said no and demanded my card be credited. I wrote a letter looking for help and never received a reply. They kept my food and never credited my card. Service was slow, after waiting 45 minutes for a table we got our drink order in but it took about 15-20 min to get our drinks. 20 minutes later we get to place our food order. Our food arrived after another 45 minutes. I ordered a grilled cheese, it was cold and the cheese had never been melted. The only things warm on my plate was the top of the bread where it had been under the warming light. I hope this was just a bad night for them and not their normal operation. Staff were all friendly and if I'm ever back in town I may give them a second chance. read more

Excellent burgers! Served on toasted potato buns! The meat is super high quality angus beef! No fillers! No gristle! Service is very good. They get very busy on the weekends so plan accordingly. It is still worth the wait and you can order drinks while you wait! Tip your servers well. They work hard here! Went tonight and the burgers are always awesome! The potato buns that they are served on are just stupid good. I have a better vocabulary than that to describe things that are yummy but that just fits! The service here also continues to be good and the wait staff are consistently hard-working and nice. We are never disappointed in Macado's! If you're from out of town make sure you pronounce it right or people WILL correct you! It is pronounced Mack-A-Dews, not Ma-Ca-Does(doesn't rhyme with avocado!) Either way, enjoy yourselves!
