Great view of the water, delicious food, and great service! Seriously crispy fries :)

The crab cakes were good and the service was great. We had a large party and everyone loved their meals.

It was my first time visiting Farmville, and I wanted to check out a local restaurant for dinner. I did notice that Charley's had varied reviews but the more recent ones seemed positive, so we gave it a go for dinner. It was a nice day, so we asked to sit outside. As a party of two, they don't allow you to sit waterside, because, as I heard the host tell most every party that arrived after us as well, those tables are reserved for larger groups. So, keep that in mind if you're looking for waterside dining. We were seated next to the door, and I didn't notice until halfway through the meal that my chair was covered in cobwebs. Kind of gross. The floor to the exterior patio was also very dirty. My mom was stomping away at ants. I'd recommend they consider cleaning more outside, especially considering it's the main allure of the restaurant. After being seated, our server greeted us. She was overall friendly albeit a bit slow, and when I asked which Riesling was sweeter (they had two), she didn't know. She asked a manager, who replied that he can't drink on shift. It was a polarity compared to the service the table next to us later received from the bartender, who provided samples to them and was on top of things for them the entire meal. I was mildly jealous, honestly. Without the option to sample, I selected a Riesling at random (the German one), and it was fortunately very good. I also heard the sparkling Moscato was pleasant. We ordered the jumbo pretzel to start, which came with a tasty cheese mixture. I would say that's where the good part ended for me. My mom didn't want our salads to arrive with the pretzel, so she asked for them to be spaced out, but then it took aaaaages for the salads to come out. The cheese on the ceasar was good, but that's about it. I couldn't taste any dressing, so I left most of it behind. I was torn in between the mahi and red snapper entrees, but ultimately chose the red snapper despite the server calling it fishy. I asked for extra sauce when I ordered it, but it came with regular sauce, so I asked again. It took some time to arrive as the kitchen had to heat it up, but when it did arrive, it was a TINY amount. I was so perplexed. The fish itself was not that great. It didn't taste fresh to me. My mom ordered the ribs, as they were explained to be really good and "fall off the bone." Can attest they were not. They were actually very fatty. They never should've left the kitchen. I relayed this feedback to our server, and she took both of our meals off the bill since we didn't eat them. I was shocked but thought that was very kind of her. I'd say this spot needs some more quality control between food and cleanliness. I'm unlikely to return personally, but it's worth a shot if you're in town and interested in waterfront dining or a nice glass of wine, I suppose. read more

This just wasn't it. Let's start with the good though. The waitress was very nice and attentive. Now for the not so good. The seasonal cocktails were ok but a little on the sweet side and definitely not alcohol heavy enough to justify the price point. The wings were edible but not very good. They may have been slightly freezer burned. The strawberry salad looked good on paper but there didn't have a dressing to complement it. The closest was a cream based balsamic vinaigrette that wasn't it. There also was very little in the way of strawberries on the strawberry salad. Lastly the overall price tag of the meal just didn't meet the quality. I will add that it is a really cool building and the place was clean. read more

Honestly a hidden gem. Gorgeous sitting on the patio at night you can hear the river and there was live music too. The date night special was a huge bang for your buck!! Steak was delicious and the crab dip was our favorite appetizer! read more

The food and ambiance were satisfactory but the service was sub-par. We were seated long enough to get drinks, order appetizers and have them come out without any silverware, which we had to eventually ask for. We also had to ask SEVERAL times for other basic necessities. We asked for extra napkins twice and before bringing them back, our waiter, Jacob, was observed waiting on two customers outside. Next, we asked for A1 sauce and he disappeared again. The next time we saw him, he was waiting on the table next to us. The restaurant wasn't even HALFWAY full yet we had to constantly ask him for help with BASIC things. It was my intention to lower his tip but unbeknownst to any of us, he had already added an 18% gratuity to both tickets. It's unprofessional to not mention the AUTOMATIC gratuity. Sunday shortly after noon, the restaurant was less than half full. Ordered charleys club with fries, and charleys club with roasted red pepper and crab soup. The sandwiches weee very good. The fries were good, and the soup was very good. . Service from the kitchen was not good. Actually ... it was terrible. As noted, they were half full, but it still took 45 minutes to get the food. Our server had to go into the kitchen and raise hell with the staff. It was very embarrassing for her. And they didn't have any drinking straws ... ran out! So i want to know what the manager has been doing to earn a paycheck, if the kitchen is that poorly run and they can't manage simple inventory. The maitre'd tried to explain that a bbq restaurant on the other side of town was closed due to a pipe break, and as a result charleys was much busier than normal ... less than half is busy? Party of three, we went into our first visit fairly excited. Very cool interior and a nice location, and the website showed a pretty good menu. We arrived after lunch and before dinner, which is traditionally pretty dead for restaurants and sure enough, we were one of very few tables throughout the visit. Despite this, it took nearly 20 minutes for our beers to come out and when the food was dropped off, things started to decline rapidly. My wife's fries weren't hot and her sandwich was missing items standard to the menu. I had ordered my salmon medium, but it came out quite overcooked. Sure, this can happen, but when sent back with the waitress, the kitchen deemed it appropriate to send the poor girl back out to argue for them that it was perfectly cooked and a thermometer had been used to verify. False, and cowardly. When eventually recooked, it was a proper medium and visibly so. A manager never bothered to appear, despite a rapidly collapsing situation that the waitress had clearly not been given proper training to handle, though no fault of hers. There was a mixup at payment as well with the wrong cards being run. No acknowledgment or discount applied, no apology from the people at fault for any of the myriad issues. From the sloppy kitchen, to the wild prices vs. low ingredient quality, this spot is not worth the trip. The only reason for the second star here is the server Kayla, who did her absolute best to salvage what she could of our meal despite an unsupportive kitchen, bartender and management. read more

Came here with a a larger than usual wedding party with a dedicated room to house all of us!! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! They were very patient and kind through the whole process! The food was served hot and delicious! They had a couple of different salads and was perfect! The meats was cooked to perfection!! The dessert afterwards was a perfect ending to a wonderful evening! I hope to be back again soon when I'm in Farmville again someday soon! From my first experience here I highly recommend this place! read more

The food was good. We ordered the crab& red pepper soup, grilled chicken goat cheese salad, and the smokehouse burger. I was asked if fries were ok with the burger. I asked if there alwere option to which I was told onion rings or a side salad. I chose the onion rings. When the bill came, there was a $3 upcharge for the onion rings that was not mentioned when ordering. Had I known, the fries would have been sufficient. We asked that the charge be removed for lack of being told when we ordered. The manager came by and agrgued that since we ate them they couldn't remove the charge. Needless to say we explained what happened. She said we'll remove the charge THIS TIME, as if there will be a NEXT time. The charge was removed. We will not be back. You don't argue with a customer over $3 who was not informed at the time they ordered. Nothing against the waitress (Kieren), she is young and new to the job...and provided great service and recommendations. read more

Longwood alum '05. Was sadly in town for a funeral. Came here bc my Uber aka sister has celiac. They are rated safe on the gluten free apps! She wanted a bbq sandwich but thankfully they were able to tell her the sauce had gluten in it. So she got a burger instead and enjoyed. My niece enjoyed her GF pasta I don't have a stomach and I got a kids meal. It was meh. I got chicken fingers bc I remembered these really yummy chicken fingers from back in the day. They either changed them or use the cheap crap for the kids menu. So that's on me not them. Ambiance always nice. Service always good. Them especially since they were so good looking out for my celiac sister. Obviously this is my favorite FarmVille restaurant so I'll be back. read more

Charlie's provides a nice ambiance on its deck listening to the river. The service was great efficient, pleasant, and attentive. The pimento cheese burger was a favorite of my husbands. He said it was cooked perfectly and tasted great. I had the snapper with a salad and soup. sIt was at least an 8oz portion of fish and very thick. The taste was meaty with a slight citrus taste from the lemon butter. Overall this was a great experience! I love the fact that this place has live music! And you can eat outside and enjoy the weather! I try to come here every so often because the food is good and it's a nice place to hang out and relax. Our waitress is very friendly and quick, and so is our food! Of course, you can't really mess up a salad or burgers. Drinks are good and again our waitress is super fast in making sure they are not empty! Very nice restaurant! We'll be back soon! read more

I had the club sandwich, and my wife had the red pepper & crab soup with the grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was good, but both sandwiches had little taste. If anything, the grilled cheese was too salty. We also got a flight of four beers, none of which we would get again. The service was attentive without hovering or rushing. The ambiance was good, although the seats did not exactly make me want to linger much longer. And thank you for not putting tip suggestions on the bill, and thanks also for taking the bill to the register to process the payment rather than doing it at the table. read more

It's a beautiful place and a great use of an old building. However, that's the only positive part of our experience. It took quite a while for our food to be brought to the table. When it arrived the fries were lukewarm. The French dip sandwich had no flavor. The au ju wasn't flavorful enough to help. The chicken Parm sandwich is just tenders with sauce. There was nothing special about the waterside burger. The crab cake sandwich was "eh." Our server was not around...no other server was around....for us to send anything back or get refills on our drinks. In fact, we got our own refills from pitchers sitting nearby. Small southern communities often have a laid back way of life. However, there needs to be a sense of urgency when serving food. read more

Grabbed lunch today with wife, son, and college mates for move in day. Great atmosphere and plenty of places to sit. Waitstaff were pleasant and were knowledgeable about options for gluten free choices. We had some burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, crab cake, Rueben, fries, and a French onion soup. Burgers were thick and cooked well, fries were crisp, and the soup was tasty and a great presentation. Crab cakes were ok, but not my favorite. Husband and I went for dinner. Our servers were Amazing! I'm terrible w names but one of them was Jessie . It was two women they said the come as a team!! So attentive and sweet! The French dip was really good, very moist and tasted made to order, cheese was perfectly melted. Fries were good and crunchy as well. It was decorated nicely for Christmas and had a relaxing ambiance, the river views on the patio would be amazing in spring and summer to enjoy a meal with a drink. Our server Jordan was very attentive and personable. The food was good but it did take quite awhile for the food to arrive despite it being a slow day for the cafe. Charley's used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The ambiance is still great but unfortunately I cannot still say the same for the food. They used to have superb meatloaf which they no longer serve. Today I got a French dip sub and it was just okay. It was on par with something I expect I could get at a chain restaurant. One of my other party got a hamburger. They asked for well done but what was served was so burnt it might as well been a charcoal brick. They should have been embarrassed to serve it. After a lovely bike ride, we were excited to enjoy the outdoor seating by the stream on a beautiful fall day. We ordered the chicken sandwich and a grilled cheese, anticipating a delightful meal. When the food arrived, I was dismayed to find that my grilled cheese was barely toasted and the interior was cold to the touch. I flagged down the waitress (who hadn't checked on us) and politely asked if my sandwich could be heated, hoping to salvage the meal while my partner enjoyed his lovely chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, after a ten-minute wait, I received just fries, and by the time my hot grilled cheese finally arrived, my partner had already finished his meal. I managed to eat half of my sandwich before requesting a to-go box. When the check arrived, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the mishap. Feeling let down, I expressed my disappointment and expected some form of compensation, considering this was my first time ever asking for such a thing. The waitress went and checked with the manager, and then informed me the manager approved a 15% discount--but it turned out to be only on my sandwich, not the meal. $2 . I was shocked. After paying and tipping well, we decided to speak to the manager to share our experience, hoping for understanding. Instead, I was told that they had to account for food costs, and while I got to take half the sandwich home, that was somehow sufficient. I felt that a lack of empathy marked our experience. After pressing for a bit more acknowledgment, I was offered 20% off my sandwich, which came to a mere $3. I declined--not because of the money, but because of the overall lack of care for our experience. In the past, I've seen other restaurants handle similar situations with grace and understanding, making an effort to retain their customers. After this experience, it's clear that Charlie's will not be getting our future business. It's unfortunate, as we were planning to return with a larger group in the spring. read more

Visited Charley's for the first time and was very happy while eating my Reuben and onion rings. They both were awesome. Tried the cheese crab dip with fresh bread and it was awesome also. My husband had a crab cake sandwich and it was awesome too! The only problem I had was the restaurant water and after trying a Sprite which wasn't good, I had a sparkling water and that solved my problem. It was awesome too. Great job, everyone! AWESOME! We read very good reviews of this restaurant and decided to try it. It took a bit to locate it but when we did. It didn't disappoint. Located in an old tobacco warehouse, it had many of the original elements left in place which was interesting to see. We started with the pimento cheese dip which is served with crustini bread and pretzels. The dip was very tasty especially with the pretzels, the extra bit of salt really hit the spot. We decided since it was a cooler day to order soups. I got the Tobacco Road Chili. The chili was full of beans and well seasoned beef. There was a bit of heat in the spices, but not enough to be too hot. It tasted very good. My husband ordered the Roasted Red Pepper and Crab soup. This soup was tasty and creamy. He really enjoyed it. All in all this is a good place to eat. read more
