Food is okay, service is okay, and menu is amazing. This is one of those places that I really wanted to like but walked away underwhelmed. Everything about it seemed right up my alley. For starters we stopped on the way back from North Carolina, cute, eclectic town, quirky sandwich place with an extensive menu in an awesome historic building; it really seemed like the perfect storm. For starters, the menu is overwhelming. It is huge and has just about any type of sandwich combination you could imagine. The sandwich names are quirky and don't really indicate the type of sandwich you are ordering. You almost have to pick a quirky name and go for it; it seemed too daunting of a task to read the entire menu complete with descriptions. We ordered chips and dips or something to that effect as an appetizer. It consisted of house made potato chips, two soft pretzels, and tortilla chips. The dips were 'house made' onion dip, salsa, and ranch. The best part was the potato chips. The onion dipped which seemed somewhat hyped up on the menu was a dead ringer for the Liptons packet mix. The soft pretzels tasted exactly like the freezer super pretzels and were just as chewy. The tortillas were nothing special, at all. For meals we one of the steak subs, really couldn't tell you the name of it and a BBQ Bill Burger. The steak sandwich wasn't bad but wasn't all that great, I have had better at Jerry's and Jersey Mikes and MUCH better at Southstreet. I subbed out the side of fries with the burger for cheese and chili fries and I was okay with whatever the difference in price/extra charge would be. I was told when I ordered that I would have to get the appetizer size if I wanted chili cheese fries. So I scratched that, but the waitress then stated she would see if the kitchen was able to accommodate that as they 'are swamped'. Back track, it was a Sunday afternoon, there was no wait, tables open, and the kitchen is mainly pumping out sandwiches, burgers and fries... In the end the chili cheese fry order came to fruition, but arrived cold. Too full from the fries and appetizer and bites of steak sub the burger remained untouched until lunch the next day. Sadly too say the best part of the meal was a cold left over burger... The waitress was sweet and really seemed like she was hustling, she had tables both upstairs and downstairs but certain aspects were off. There was only one small plate for the appetizers and no napkins. Since we didn't receive a visit from our waitress we had to manage with the lack of napkins and one plate. I am guessing this is the type of place that has the potential to be great if you have your thing that you always get, for us being first timers it wasn't memorable for the right reasons. All in all we will still be searching for 'that' place to go if or when the next Boone, NC road trip happens... read more

Great atmosphere!! Shitty service... We sat on the upper patio with a great view of Main Street! And our server ruined the evening! She never gave her name! We asked her how her evening was and her response was "I'm here". I get it you're having a rough night but don't ruin ours! read more

I ate at Macado's earlier today and the food was really just average. Me and my friend got the salsa con queso together and I got the ruben sandwich. My salsa con queso was decent, but my ruben sandwhich was very sub par. It was suppose to have sour kraut on it, but it only came on a small portion of the sandwhich. My fruit was also not fresh and from a package. This restraunt really needs to step their game up if they want more stars! read more

If you're looking for fast service on the weekends, forget about it....but the most appealing feature to this bar/restaurant is "The Schooner", or The Chalice as some of us call it. Burger was excellent, but the service was lacking. Waitresses dressed like they just got out of bed and came to work. Not much interaction by bar staff and didn't see a smile once. I really like the "Do's". It was new my senior year, but was a welcome relief to the dismal two other bar options in Lexington. The wings are my favorite for food. I'm a wing fan, and they are consistently awesome. The drinks are good too, and I'm still under the impression that you can keep the glasses they come in. It can be pretty packed on the weekends. One time I was visiting out of town, and every table was full. We walked past the hostess (truthfully at the time not really knowing we had sign up for a table there... I had just walked in and sat down so many times before). Anyway, we found an empty table that had just been cleared upstairs and so we sat down. The waitress came up and didn't look too happy. She said, "Where are your menus?". I said, "Oh, can we have some?". She left, apparently checked to see if our party had signed up for a table, came back, and asked us to leave. We asked why. She said she knew we hadn't signed up for a table because we didn't come up with menus. So we left. She was kind of nasty about it. Hasn't stopped me from going back. read more

This place sucks. Don't eat here. Shawnikia was rude and acted like we were a burden. She acted like she was doing us a favor by waiting on us. Fries were half frozen. Cheese on nachos cold. Not once did waitress ask how food was or if we needed anything. I ALWAYs leave a 25% tip..,,always. Except for today. Because I've never experienced such horrible service. The food sucked but I would never fault the wait staff for that...but I will fault her for being the worst waitress I've ever had in my 52 years on this earth. read more

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The servers don't care about the patrons and are lazy. I blame management. Some of my to-go orders have lacked food items that should have come with the dish. My friend just ordered a sandwich from there and they failed to put one of the five ingredients on it: the sauce. I once got a salad that was half wilted lettuce. The only reason I go here is for convenience, and my day is immediately worse upon eating the food and having to deal with their unparalleled bad service. read more

Worst service. Went today with my family and waited at the host stand for 15 minutes without being helped. We were told "someone will be with you shortly" twice but no one actually did. Why couldn't that server just assist us? At least 3 servers saw us standing there and never tried to help. The restaurant was not crowded and there were open tables. We would have seated ourselves since we had been waiting for so long with a 7 year old, however they needed to be cleaned off. It was upsetting to waste our time so we left. read more

Visited Lexington for one night and chose Macado's because of outdoor dining on second floor balcony and vegetarian choices. Very nice on both counts. I've had many cold veggie sandwiches over the years and their build-your-own was among the best. Very glad we ate here. read more

This is exactly the type of place we like to go to for a quick and tasty informal meal. There are two stories to this historic building for the eating area which adds to its quirkiness. Plus there is outside eating on the front porches with a view of historic downtown Lexington, VA. However, there are some misses: The menu is a disorganized mess. Everything has a cute name and it is alphabetical. So if you want a certain sandwich (say pastrami), there are several different options, but not next to each other. I frequently give up and resort to just 'build your own'. If they would group them by type (like as in meat), it would help a lot. The beer selection is hit or miss. We like a good IPA. Sometimes they have one on tap, or a good ale, and other times they seem to be stuck on all lagers. We don't stick around if they don't have what we want. If ordering chips, they throw a small bag on with the meal which is a terrible idea. Make them home made or serve something else. And recently (December, 2017) the place seems to be dirty. They need to close it down and scrub from top to bottom. I hope they will do that while the students are away during the Christmas holidays. Management needs to step up and do a makeover, before this neat place loses all it customers and shuts down. That would be a terrible loss for Lexington. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. We came to Macado's for dinner. I ordered the vegetarian mushroom burger and a side salad. I realized the salad was covered with bacon. I walked in to ask for a salad without bacon since I am a vegetarian. As I was walking out I heard the group of waitresses say "YANKEES can't have bacon on their salad". How incredibly rude. What a derogatory way to treat a paying customer. Very disappointing experience, we will not be back to Lexington. read more

Probably the best watering hole/restaurant in Lexington proper. Or at least within reasonable walking distance from campus and any frat house. My friends and I frequented Macado's throughout our 4 years at W&L and there's a reason why. Okay, I admit, multiple reasons why. Reason Nummer 1 would have to be the wings. Out of all the places I've been to I don't think I've ever had wings so consistently hot, juicy, and crispy. The nice crisp of the fried skin coupled with the sweetness of the sweet baby ray's sauce was always something I looked forward to when we went. Also, if you ever want your ass handed to you on a silver platter get the wings with anything other than sweet baby ray's. I tried multiple times but each time I could only eat about 2 before I was crying my eyes out. Especially the Thai peanut sauce or whatever it was, holy crap. Reason Nummer 2 is definitely the fuckin' SCHOONERS! Nothing spells a good night like 2-3 basically hand-held bowls full of shock top (a favorite of mine). For around $4-5 a pop for what equates to about 4 drinks is something else. Those with a side of wings and a group of buddies makes for a great night. In my humble opinion the atmosphere is the cherry on top. During the days it's relatively quiet but varies depending on if there's a sports game or not. But at night is when it gets really hopping. The atmosphere at night is always alive with students just shooting the shit and having a good time. It's the perfect place to sit with your friends and have a couple cold ones. Totally disagree with the comments about service. Our waitress was prompt and very responsive to our needs. There was a short delay maybe 5 minutes for our food and she let us know so we weren't sitting there wondering. My sandwich was a decent size for the price and the Mac and cheese was very good but I would skip the boneless wings. read more

Macadon't-I went into Macado's at around 5 on a Sunday evening with three of my friends. We were seated promptly for a wait that seemed endless. We received some of appetizers at around 540 and then all of our food by 620. I wish it had been that simple though. Our server forgot that I had ordered 10 boneless wings, which I would have been willing to overlook if the server had apologized and put my order in, but the server suggested that I had not done so. My friends all agreed that I had, so the server begrudgingly trudged to the kitchen to correct the mistake. Through the whole time we were eating our food we were never asked how it tasted or if there was anything else we needed. My friends sandwich was missing elements of it leaving him hungry and unfulfilled. However, this negligence couldn't be remedied as our server was nowhere to be found. All in all, my friends and I left Macado's roughly 2 hours later feeling taken, poorly treated, and with no intentions on returning to this institution. Not once did they apologize or attempt to explain to us why the wait was so long. All of the people in my party are reasonable individuals who would fully understand such a situation. This also hasn't been a one time offense. In the limited times I have been to Macado's, service similar to this has occurred. Clearly Macado's is a Macadon't if you are visiting the Lexington area. I award them one star because that is the minimum required for a post. read more

Service not great and I had a hair in my food. the waitress took food and didn't bring new back! When I asked about my Food, the staff assured me that they had taken it off my bill!! Hello I would like the food i ordered and it's assumed i wouldn't pay for food with hair in it!! On top of that she told me she could put it back on my bill and brig me more food!! I have gone to this bar many times and have never received good service. Whether it's the the one bartender who seems annoyed that I even walked into her bar. Or the fact that my boyfriend won't order jack and coke because it is usually well whiskey poured into a Jack bottle I am always disappointed by my experience. Tonight however was the straw that broke the camel's back. When I walked in I ordered a jack and coke and an angry orchard, immediately after (before she had poured a single thing in my order) I stopped and said "never mind, just two angry orchards" she said okay, yet still went on to pour three drinks. When she delivered them to me I said I had told her I only wanted the two angry orchards, to which she responded don't worry about it just take the jack and coke. So I did. We did not drink it, but instead gave it to another patron at the bar who was not with our party. Fast forward to tab closing time, she hands me a check with my two angry orchards plus the jack and coke (which was her mistake). I am a bartender myself, and have never charged someone for my mistakes I made behind the bar. If I made an extra drink for a party I either comped it or paid for my mistake, not charged the customer for something they did not order. read more

Gravely disappointing. Our family gathered for the holidays at a wonderful cabin in Lexington 30 Jan and had made a reservation for 9 adults and one toddler at Macado's weeks in advance, even calling the day of the reservation to reconfirm only to arrive and learn that our table had been given away at 5pm; our reservation was for 6pm. The hostess didn't seems to really care and offered two high top tables in the bar as an alternative. A high chair would never work so the baby would have to be held. Letting the hostess know that we'd rather not take that option, she then offered out setting outside on the balcony (it was 45 degrees outdoors and the balcony offered no heat source or light). They then offered two booths that we ultimately accepted but were not happy about as our family was then split up. I asked to speak to the manager (I felt that we deserved perhaps a free appetizer at the very least) and waited 15 minutes while standing near the kitchen as instructed by the staff only to learn that the manager not coming out to speak to me. She apparently informed the server that the only thing she could do for our "lost" table was to offer a free dessert. I returned to my seat and we waited one hour for our waters and other beverages. Our food arrived cold and only arrived because our son went to ask the absent server when our food would be coming out (we'd been at the restaurant 1 hour and 35 minutes when he asked as we watched others be seated and served before us). When our food arrived, we were missing 10 wings from one order, the PB&J for the toddler came with hard stale bread. We felt like the staff was actually mad at us as if we were the ones inconveniencing them. Fast forward the the end of our two hour stay, the manager finally came out and spoke with me and did the right thing by comping our meals and kindly offered cookies and brownies. One server stood out and was very sympathetic to the situation, Ciera...thank you to her. She was truly the only positive part of the experience. WE WILL NEVER FREQUENT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN. You'll get a better meal by stopping at the closet fast food establishment or gas station and treated much better too! read more
