The ambiance in the restaurant is really cool. Lots of decorations that will satisfy any person who is an artist or sports enthusiast. Our waiter was really knowledgeable and basically gave us our order. For a party of five hungry adults we got the Heidenberg (serves four), and three sets of wings (30). Which were all half off on Monday. So we fed five for about $55 and it was all tasty. As we were getting ready to go, our waiter asked if any of us wanted a drink to go and one of our party did. Like a magician, he pulled out the Arnold Palmer from behind his back and blessed our thirsty companion. We probably didn't need all thirty wings, but they were really tasty and we enjoyed our flavors. We got buffalo, bang bang, and garlic Parmesan. The garlic was maybe a little overpowering and I think I liked the Bang Bang wings the best. And btw, the wings come with chips underneath, so you should probably not get chips for a side. Our experience wasn't great based on a poor server. I recognize that can happen anywhere and anyone can have a bad day. The building is very cool. It's worth eating here just to check out! Eclectic decorations win here. The food was actually really good and very fairly priced. We wanted to sit outside at the bar area, but they said that was too full to seat us. Props to them for enforcing covid regulations. We were there a little after dinner on a weeknight so the regular dining room was empty. Party of 5 on Thursday night. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Our female server was very awkward. She also didn't know what kinds of beer they had. When asked for the darkest beer they had, she brought budweiser. The chips/dip appetizer came about 1 minute before our meals. I also think we should have been told the fries as a side were $2 extra. I will give this 2 stars because the food was good...when we eventually got it. Let's start with when we walked in. There were two parties ahead of us. We were all seated slowly, but in the same section, about 3minutes apart. It took about 10 minutes for us to be greeted. We weren't greeted by our server, it was by a guy who said our server was pretty backed up. Funny we looked around and there were only three tables sat and they weren't all hers!!! She eventually came and got our drinks & food orders. That was at 6:35pm. We didn't get our food until 7:30. She profusely apologized. However, she barely came and asked how we were doing and if we needed refills. The two tables that were sat before us...minutes apart, had a different server and was asking for their checks before we got our food. Mind you another 5 top was sat and they were eating their food by the time ours came out. By the time we were done, three tables ate, drank, and paid for their meals. The server thought it was a great idea to come to the table and apologize and have conversation about her child as if we were interested. We waited another 20 minutes for our check. By this time another grout was sat and they saw us looking around. They asked if were waiting for the server and for how long. After having a comical conversation about our experience, I asked for the manager. WHY DID I DO THAT?! There was no accountability and we were offered a free dessert!!! The curbside service is nice and our food was ready a little earlier than expected. We ordered two sandwiches with potato salad as the side. The potato salad tastes like homemade and not all filler, it's full of chunks of potatoes. As usual the sandwiches come as they are listed on the menu. He had to request a fork and knife, which seriously took more than 5 minutes to get. macadoos used to be the best restaurant in roanoke. past 2 months I've really cut down eating regularly here the quality of food has went down. I've either been missed on items, tooth pick was not inserted into burger so my sandwich was allover the box, fries are undercooked, Pickle leaked all over food from not putting under the sheet , thus ruining taste and quality of whole order.. I haven't complained until now or asked for my money I know the money earned keeps business alive but I just cannot keep throwing my money away in hopes the cooks will get it together. very sad to even review this restaurant negatively been a lover of macadoos over 20 years! I ordered the chicken Parmesan wrap and that was really good and i got a side salad. The lettuce was brown and the cucumber and tomato wasn't fresh at all. Pretty sure it was left overnight or made early in the morning . Salads are so simple to fix. I work in a restaurant so I'm gonna critique. Your kitchen manager or whoever need to get on the ball and fix this before someone gets sick. You cannot serve brown lettuce. There is one in Lynchburg so we knew, more or less, what they had and went in. The place is a lot bigger inside than what it looks like from the street and we were quickly seated in an upstairs booth. Waitress came by and she was a hot mess- apparently she was working solo as others called in sick or whatever, but she was making it work nonetheless. The menu is straight up American- bar type foods and such- nothing healthy, but that is not why we came here. Lots of heavy / greasy / fried dishes and we got a variety of things ordered because we like to graze. Everything came out as expected and we ended up with a lot of leftovers that we couldn't take as we had to be elsewhere- so next time I will remember that the apps are larger than expected. Macadoos looks good at first glance, but I have to say this really isn't my bar of choice. The food is average, the service dull, and the bar needs a good cleaning. However, my biggest problem with the bar is that it is a smoking bar with very weak smoke eaters; you realize this is the case as soon as you enter and choke on a fairly stale Oder of ancient cigarette smoke.. God smoke eaters usually take care of that problem. Now many of my friends smoke and I am by no means a smoking fascist, but a business still needs to step up to the plate. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ORDERING TAKE-OUT AT MACADO'S, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: My son and I were in our sixth hour of an eight-hour trip, and with Roanoke up ahead we pushed through so that I could introduce him to what in the 1990s was a favorite, Macado's. When we walked-in to pick up our order, each of us wearing our masks, we asked the woman at the front desk whether we could walk to the bathrooms to wash our hands. She went in back to the kitchen, and returned to tell us that "the bathrooms' water isn't working, so no." (Thinking more about it, did they really expect us to believe that the employees have nowhere to go to the restroom? Excuse number one seemed like a thinly-veiled lie). When our order was ready, another woman emerged from the kitchen. She was not wearing a mask. She required me to handle the desk pen to sign the receipt. We told her that we had been on the road all day, and were visiting, and asked if we might please quickly wash our hands at the sink behind her. She said no, "we can't have customers touching the sink." Excuse number 2. I asked if she might then please turn on the water for us, and press soap into our hands, so that we could wash and eat. She gave us a curt "no." Excuse three. "Oh," she then said, "you can't cross this line," and pointed to an imaginary line that apparently makes sure that customers have nowhere to wash their hands. Excuse four. We are in the midst of a pandemic. Before you order at Macado's you better think twice. Why?: (A) Of the four employees that we observed -- two up front and two in the kitchen -- ONLY ONE OF THEM WAS WEARING A MASK, and she only wore hers part-time, pulling it on and off; and worse yet (B) According to Macado's, THEY HAVE NO RUNNING WATER IN THE BATHROOMS, so consider whether you are really in the mood for food prepared by employees who are not wearing masks, and cannot wash their hands after going to the restroom. Here is the upshot. Macado's: we went out of our way to visit your restaurant today. Your employees treated us unreasonably. Your refusal to allow traveling customers to wash their hands so that they could eat in their car was outrageous. They say a number of restaurants will not exist after the pandemic downturn. Macado's -- along with the no-hands-washing policy that it trotted out today and the unsanitary conditions that we observed -- would be our vote for first to go. read more

Waited about 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge we were there. Took us right to a table. Waitress came by a few minutes later and took drink orders and we ordered an appetizer. After about 30 minutes, two of the drinks showed up. About 10 min later the other two. We ask about the appetizer and was told it should be right out. After another 30 min we found waitress ordered refills and ask about appetizer again. Eventually the refills, appetizer and food all arrived at the same time.
