WOW! This place is totally underrated and a total locals spot. The quality is amazing and the prices can't be beat. We went for brunch and were greeted by a very kind waitress who made us feel like family. I ordered the shrimp and bean tostada and my boyfriend got a chorizo scramble. The toppings, flavor, and texture were absolutely incredible and we were almost licking our plates. The green juice is also very fresh and made in house. First time coming to Macareno. It's slightly away from the main restaurant / bar scene (but still easily walkable from the center of Romantic Zone). Small and extremely authentic restaurant. A very simple and motley restaurant with no pretense to be anything. They focused on their breakfast and brunch items, which was excellent. Their brewchata was perfect blend of sweetness and creaminess without overbearing. But the star was their Macareno breakfast eggs with toppings. We decided on the asada and still fantastic. The place is a little bit of a walk from the beach side of Zona romantica. The ambiance is cute and authentic. The menu looked interesting with choice of smoothies and interesting items. I ended up ordering the burrito but that was a bit of a disappointment. It was too many thick layers of tortilla compare to a thin layer of stuffings. I literally had to scrape the content off the tortilla to avoid bites with lots of tortilla bread. Came here for brunch with a group of four on our vacation and it was amazing! Food was fresh, flavors were great (from savory rojo chilaquiles to sweet passion fruit French toast), and the presentation was gorgeous. Excellent service from the staff there as well. Maybe the only downside is the lack of AC but that didn't bother us when we went - it's probably only an issue in the summer. I'll be back next time I visit PV. The food is incredibly tasty, the presentation is unmatched, the environment is full of gorgeous plants, and the prices are not much higher than street tacos. You can't ask for much more! Heads up: it closes at 3pm, so don't plan on dinner here. Las Gueras is a related restaurant that you can go to for dinner. We had the opportunity to try quite a few restaurants while staying in Puerto Vallarta for a month, and although we loved so many places, Macareno might be my ride or die. Macareno is family-owned and operated in a lovely space. There's an open kitchen where you can see the chefs preparing delicious food, an airy interior with fans to keep the heat at bay, and plants to add a sense of lushness. The value for quality (including friendly service and the option to pay via credit card) that you get at Macareno is incredible! Regarding drinks, we found ourselves constantly torn between the agua frescas of the day, cafe de olla (served with cookies!), and jugo verde. They're all delicious and balanced in terms of sweetness--follow your heart, you can't go wrong. The food is outstanding too. It's colorful, aesthetically plated and tastes even better than it looks. We've tried huevos rancheros, huevos divorciadas, burritos, and huevos a la Mexicana. If you eat meat, don't miss the chance to add pollo con tinga or pollo con mole to your dish. Also, I'm wholly devoted to the spicy, fresh ranchero sauce you'll find on the chilaquiles (and on a few other dishes). I never understood the hype around chilaquiles until I tried them at Macareno, and now I'm obsessed. They're crunchy, covered abundantly in the aforementioned heavenly ranchero sauce, and topped with fresh cucumbers, pickled red onions, queso fresco and sesame seeds. I swear no one paid me to wax so passionately rhapsodic over this restaurant; I just love it that much (which is saying something because I'm from Austin and have spent most of my life eating tacos). read more

Definitely one of the most delicious restaurants I've ever had! The corn tamale slightly fried with black refried beans on it, crema (like sour cream), cheese ,shredded lettuce, pickled onions and sauce is amazing! The molletes which is like a French roll sliced in half, buttered and toasted topped with the same things as the tamale was mmmm and the eggs with chilaquiles were also amazing! When you order cafe de olla , which is coffee with cinnamon and pilloncillo ( which is like brown sugar), they bring it in a very nice Mexican looking mug on a little tray with a couple cookies.
