We enjoyed El Brujo Vallarta. It's at the base of the hills and the road outside is a bit rough, but it's worth a visit. We were greeted warmly and escorted to a table. We both ordered margaritas and they brought chips and pico de gallo. We also ordered the tuna sashimi. This was our favorite dish of the night. A huge platter of tuna served with crusty bread. It was unique and delicious! I also ordered the pirey. The frijoles and guacamole were yummy as was the stuffing. I found the fish and sauce a bit mild. My partner ordered the octopus and snail. He loved it. This was his favorite restaurant of the trip, and he was ready to return the next day. I'd definitely recommend this for the uniqueness and flavors. read more

Outstanding restaurant, located away from the touristy part of Zona Romantica. One of our great finds during our recent trip to Puerto Vallarta. We started with Margaritas and it was delicious. The Camarones and pulpo tostada were fresh, well-seasoned, and in generous portions. For the main, I ordered the Seafood Pasta and my partner had the Macho Chicken. The Seafood Pasta is amazing and loaded with seafood. The Macho Chicken was moist and delicious. Our server, Rafael was the best! Great personality, is warm and welcoming. Total hidden gem a bit off the well worn PV tourist trail. The service was great and the restaurant was pretty cool inside. Our only complaint was that it was really loud inside due to the fact that another table was treating the place like their private living room, but that wasn't the restaurant's fault. The drinks were tasty, but I wish I would've noticed their specialty cocktails before ordering a go to margarita because I had one for my second drink and it was outstanding. The three salsas that came before the meal were good, especially the pico. We shared the shrimp fajitas, which were so flavorful that I didn't need to douse them with salsa like I normally do. We also had the Aztec mocajete- seriously so good. We didn't try dessert- last nights special was flan- because we were stuffed and taking a togo box at the end. read more

Stopped in here on a DIY taco tour for the chicharron tacos, which were incredible. My boyfriend ordered an interesting sounding modified cheese stick appetizer which was *amazing* and really unique. I've never had anything quite like it and scooped up in a fresh corn tortilla made this wonderful cheesy savory taco that was a highlight of the trip. The cielo rojo was well made and generous. My mom clued the staff into it being my birthday. They comped some of the better flan I've had with a happy birthday, which was quite sweet. Glam was extremely rich with roasted caramel and vanilla. I asked the server if the guacamole, ceviche and molcajete would be too much food. No, they are small he said. The ceviche was massive - just throwing that out there. The guacamole wasn't bad. I make a better molcajete than this place. The drunken sauce wasn't bad very one note- guajillp. And the flank had a strange look and texture. There are better places in Zona Romantica. read more

Made time in our trip to visit an old favorite El Bruno for lunch today. The lunch started with their house made Tortilla chips accompanied by a hot and a mild house made salsa along with a tomato salsa. Our party ordered Margarita's including a strawberry, mango and my favorite the Cadillac. All of the above set the stage for their incredible fajita choices. Between the four of us we had two chicken and two shrimp fajitas. We could easily got by with one order of each. The picture below shows them firing up the portable grill to add sizzle to the shrimp and chicken. The overall lunch was a highlight of our trip to this point. El Brujo usually has people lined up to get in as the evening progresses so it is a nice surprise to find it much quieter in the afternoon. I am sure we will continue to include El Brujo in our itinerary during any trips to Puerto Vallarta. read more

Wow El Brujo came recommended to us by our hotel and it did NOT disappoint. This modest restaurant is situated a little bit farther from the more touristy areas like the Malecon, but it's worth the short trip to enjoy their rich Mexican cuisine. The main dish here was the shrimp fajitas, and it's probably the best I've ever had. The intensity of shrimp flavour clearly shows they've used only quality ingredients in preparing this dish, and it is marinated and flavoured with so many incredible spices and herbs that made my tastebuds sing with every bite. They finish the fajita with a bit of tequila to flambe the dish tableside, which just amps up the flavours here. All this was served with fresh hot tortillas that perfectly complement every bit of the dish. If you do choose to come to El Brujo, you must get this dish! They also served us some complimentary chips and salsa, and we ordered a ceviche tostada per person but it was nothing to write home about. I was on a desperate search to try as many tortilla soups in the Emiliano Zappata neighborhood that I could find. The first two places Yelp sent me had been gone for over a year (most likely more) and a large beautiful condo complex was in its place . El Brujo was the furthest out recommendation that said they had tortilla soup on their menu. It was a block East of the tortilla factory and almost empty, but I was on a mission. The most delightful waiter welcomed me and gave me his full attention. The soup did NOT disappoint! It came with a side plate of the "fixens:" cheese, guacamole, dried rat tail pepper strips, and creama on a spoon so I could add just the amount I wanted. I was in soup heaven! It's too bad they were as far out as they were, otherwise, I'm sure they would be packed. I'll be back for sure! read more

We were in PV for only four nights but after one night at El Brujo, we needed to go again. Both nights we had Rafael (?) as our server and it was obvious that he loved his job. We came to Vallarta and decided to eat at this place recommended to us. Hands downs the worst service ever. The server didn't know if he was coming or going that should tell you a lot. A guy at the hotel I'm staying at recommended this place. I wasn't crazy about how dark it is but the food made up for it. I ordered a limeade. It's about $2 USD and comes in a big glass. They serve complimentary chips and pico de gallo. The music playing was from the Dominican Juan Luis Guerra. I didn't try the pico because it looked like it was loaded with jalapeños. I'm not a big eater so ordered the fried cheese with shrimp. It's like a taco and served with a delicious salsa. I loved it. The tortilla tasted homemade. Returned today after 8 years and it was even better than we had remembered! The queso cilantro was the star! Also had the complementary fresh made chips and pico de gallo. Stuffed w Octopus and Shrimp and covered w a green sauce. The tacos were filled w a grilled cheese and the meat of choice (better than Tacos Revolution). Ask for the extra picante salsa. Only three tables of customers were in the restaurant, but the service was extremely slow. After dinner we asked for dessert. The waiter said he had to check.
