I've always love the Macaron Bar's tasty offerings, but after today I love this business so much more. I was able to take their Intro to Macaron Baking class. Although I've successfully baked macarons before I now understand this delicate pastry in so many new ways. I went into this class excited but not thinking I would learn nearly as much as I actually did learn. Chef Nathan was so much more than a chef today. He thoroughly explained every step of the macaron baking process and was so good at answering questions while we made our macarons. Finally macarons in Cincinnati. This is a cute little shop on Main St in OTR. You can order from 14 different flavors of macarons. They have a lot of staple flavors like chocolate, pistachio and raspberry and more seasonal flavors that they rotate. When we went today, they had lavender and chocolate orange blossom. I'm a bit of a macaron snob so I might be grading these a little harder. The price of each macaron is very fair at $2. The taste is pretty decent although still has room for improvement. They have the texture and crouch of the cookie just right. I do wish that the flavor of each type would come out more though. For pistachio, I'd want to taste more sweetness and pistachio like the traditional ones that I can get in France. But I feel that there's enough potential that I would still come back to try more. I have never had one of these until this past Second Sunday On Main and boy was I delighted. The treats are so light but rich and the boxes are a great deal for small groups like I had. They have so many favors that I had a tough time just picking 3 but I didn't taste one I didn't like. I rather enjoyed the cafe one and the fruit inspired ones. read more

I have been to Macaron Bar many times. My wife and I have taken macaron making class there and it is a very professional and customer service driven business. Located in the quickly growing Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, it is one of the jewels of the area. Now, you will pay for their complex, gourmet flavored delicacies, but what you get is one of the most unique and tasty cookies you will find anywhere. For those unfamiliar with the macaron, this is not the almond, coconut cakey cookie people think. These are highly technical, shiny topped, flavorful ganache filled treats of pastry chef lore. You are greeted on approach by a timeless tile inlay that says "Family". Beyond is a modern, clean and basic shop with an open view of their ovens and counters where all the magic creation happens. It is delightful and a place I have taken and will continue to take my "family" because macarons are more that just a cookie. I had no idea how amazing macaroons could be. My wife and I got a box that contained almost all of their flavors. My favorite was the salted caramel, and hers was the chocolate strawberry. The only thing that shocked me was the price ($25 for 12 macaroons). But, I believe that we will be treating ourselves to another box in the future. read more

My macaroons were Reeeeaalllllyyy dry. I bought about a dozen or so at the convention center. They tasted a few days old. Wish they would have brought them fresh daily. The flavor was there so it seemed although it was difficult to distinguish through the texture. I will try again however I'm going to make sure that they are fresh. read more

As a co-worker and I were grabbing dinner after work in OTR, she mentioned we HAD to go to the Macaron Bar. I have never had these before, so I was a little reluctant but said I would accompany her. We arrived closer to 10pm, which is when they close, so there weren't many macarons left on display. I did learn that they aren't pronounced macaroon, but macaron. Sarah, the very nice lady who was working heard I hadn't ever had one before and gave me one to try. OH MY WORD. My taste buds exploded and my heart melted a little bit after tasting my first bite of a coffee flavored macaron. I ended up buying a whole sleeve to bring home to share. Let's just say most of them were gone by the time I had gotten home. Sarah told us that the flavor is all in the ganache, which they add jelly beans they fly in from Germany. We were anxiously awaiting the opening of the macaron bar and it was worth the wait. We got a 6 box with vanilla, hazelnut, citron,salted caramel, raspberry, and cinnamon. They all are great but my least favorite was the raspberry. A little to sweet for my tastes. These macarons are so fresh it's incredible as they make everything daily. That also is the down side to a new small business. They don't have all of there flavors available everyday and were prone to selling out before the holidays. As they progress I'm sure they will learn there daily demand and adjust accordingly. I'm glad there 20 minutes from my home or I'd be here all the time. read more

It's great to see Cincinnati have a macaroon bar, but your experience really depends on the flavor you get. I particularly disliked the Rose one, which reminded me of cough syrup, and the earl grey had a "trix" cereal aftertaste. I loved the pistachio and elderberry, and the store is beautiful and helpful servers. Since I didn't try all the flavors and most of what I had was very good, I'm hesitant to give them a lower score, although the rose was dubious. read more

Perfectly flavored and pairs well with their tea. I wish they had more of a selection, but mainly because they are very good. Its not a large place so take them to go, I wish it was more of an atmosphere to go and relax, which is why the 4 stars and not 5. The salted caramel and the vanilla are great. I wanted to give a better review. I really did. This review is based on my third visit, which happened today. I decided to support local for my birthday (yesterday) and ordered macarons online to pick up today. I even left them a note in the irdey that these were for a same day birthday celebration. I followed COVID-era instructions and called from their front door when I arrived. Less than a minute after calling, one of their rude employees insisted I needed to get out of her way so she could drag an empty wagon to her car parked right outside the front door. I let her by (what else are you supposed to do when someone walks directly at you in a one-person wide old doorway). I was going to let that go, even though she hadn't even unlocked her car by the time a more professional colleague has given me my order and I was walking home. But when I arrived home, I realized ALL of the macarons are FROZEN. If I wanted frozen, not fresh, I could have went to any number of big box stores to get them, spent less money, and had a similar experience. I've been a couple times in the past and they've been delicious and fresh (although the employees are often rude) and able to be sampled during the walk home. Way to make my quarantine birthday treat for me and my friends completely inedible at the time of our gathering, nearly 90 minutes after pick up, Macaron Bar. read more

I don't see what the fuss is all about. These are some of the worst macarons that I have ever tried. They were hard, overly chewy and dried out. The ratio of filling to cookie is totally off -- some of the macarons barely had any filling at all. Most of the flavors were very artificial tasting. The best one out of the batch was the Earl Grey. Most of the fruit flavors tasted like Starburst candy, but without the pleasing chewiness. If you are going to open a shop that focuses solely on macarons, you better have the recipe and technique nailed. There are plenty of better shops around town to purchase macarons - Frieda's, Brown Bear, and Taste of Belgium to name a few. Don't waste your money here. A well-designed interior does not make up for an inferior product. read more

The person who answered took a message but no one called me back. I called again 2 days later and spoke to a manager about the order I wanted to place. We anticipated the opening of Macaron Bar for some time and have gone a number of times already to get our fix! Macaron Bar has delicious macarons as well as Deeper Roots coffee and a selection of teas. All very good! I recommend going early to get the best selection of fresh macarons - they get busy! Definitely try the pistachio - I often consider buying boxes of just those to devour by myself. All the flavors are quite good, one standout recently was the Champagne flavor, very nice. I love Macaroons , I usually get mine from whole foods, but I decided to try this place and it was a good idea , it's a quaint little store where you can actually watch the cookies being made, on top of that they have a great variety of flavors and the cutest packaging . Although I do think they could give better deals when you get sets of them , like they're 2$ a piece which is standard for any macaroon, but it's 12$ for 6 , it's usually a little cheaper if you buy them in a set . That would be a nice thing just saying , but I got a set of 6 with salted caramel, vanilla, chocolate orange blossom, raspberry, passion fruit & lemon.
