Absolutely horrible experience. Bad customer service. Went for high tea. They charged $49+ per person including my 7year old granddaughter for 5 pastries and a grocery store brand tea! Macarons tasted stale per my granddaughter ( yes, they did). Pastries were mediocre at best. It was pouring down rain that day so I asked for a box and bag to take the leftover pastries home. Waiter refused a box telling me he would have to charge for it. I just paid Over $100 and they couldn't give us a box?!! Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. read more

I have sifted through a lot of scathing reviews! Sad I am leaving a review myself but I will temper it with something positive as well! Let's start with that positive! Personally, my son and I found the food good! I might add I am not a connoisseur of French food by any means so maybe I am easy to please! There are a few things I found were a problem here! One the curt attitude has to go by the owner! It is just a bad way to conduct a business! When you are left a bad review unless, and be objective, it is an out and out lie, be conciliatory! Getting on your high-horse will only make you look like there is validity to the story! I agree I found our conversations to be pushy and rather harsh! We also experienced this at our tea! My main issues are as follows: 1. Not everyone looks up your website before they book a reservation! Be prepared to tell them ALL the teas and options available and let THEM choose the tea they want! Do NOT assume the customer wants the highest priced option because it is good for you! Also when caught do not lie and say there was only one option when it is clear on your website and the wall of your establishment that is not the case and when you say you booked the customer for one tea do NOT bait and switch saying there was only one option all along and charge them for a higher priced tea they didn't book! There was a high AND a classic tea and also brunch! 2. When you tell a customer they have a choice of coffee or tea, listed on your website, AND told to us right from your own mouth on the phone, let them know beforehand if refills on those items are available or not! No one goes in for tea expecting to get one cup of coffee or one pot of tea especially for the price they expect them to be unlimited in quantity like any other restaurant! Also concisely state you serve espresso and not the agreed upon and requested decaffeinated coffee that was promised and expected when we arrived! 3. When you tell a customer they can cancel there reservations at ANYTIME before a certain day you STICK to your agreement! If you say you can cancel as long as it is on Friday you STICK to your agreement! This could be for ANY reason! 4. Tip was discussed on our very FIRST conversation you asked if I would like to leave one and I said we would prefer to pay it after we had our tea! You did not say at anytime on the phone you were automatically going to charge one and quite a hefty one at that! On top of that you didn't tell us the amount of the tea per person when we asked about tea! People would consider these two issues rather unethical practice! Be ready to tell the customer prices of your teas on the first conversation and then they choose! Also mention in that first convo that you intend to charge them up front before they even have the tea as well as a gratuity and how much! Don't assume they know! 5. Lastly, you need to familiarize yourself with the old adage the customer is always right! You know why that is? Because customer will or won't come back depending on how they are treated even when conflict arises! AND that customer will or will NOT recommend your establishment based on your conduct! Personally, l enjoyed my food but the customer service needs to improve vastly and your business practices need to be on par with your prices! read more

My friends and I wandered in right before opening. The door was unlocked and we were met with such a kind welcome. We offered to leave and come back, but the owner was gracious enough to tell us to come on in. She talked about all the flavors of macarons, the different tarts and the classes they offered. I really wanted to love this place, I've had my eye on it for forever but just didn't have the opportunity to swing by. Finally stopped in for dessert Saturday night and it was such a huge disappointment! Where to even start? 1) Prices: are just absurd. $2.70 for a tiny macaroon. $7 for a small slice of cake or tart. I understand it's a French patisserie but I've been to well known patisseries in NYC with more reasonable prices. 2) Food: is hit or miss. The lemon meringue tart was heavenly with a crispy pastry, perfect amount of tart and sweet lemon filling and pillowy, peaky meringue. But the blackberry chocolate cake had an unnatural sweet taste. The espresso tasted like simple black coffee and not great quality coffee at that. 3) Hygiene: this is where my review of this place went from 3 stars to 1. Hubby found a long black curly hair in the middle of his slice of cake. It was long enough that it wound around his fork and dangled. It was seriously disgusting and completely ruined our appetites. I waited until other customers left the establishment and then discreetly brought it to the attention of the woman behind the counter. She apologized, took the rest of the cake from me, but did not bother to remedy the situation at all. SUPER disappointed this place wasn't better. They do high tea and cooking classes and I was hoping to come here for tea with a couple of girlfriends and do cooking class date nights with the hubby but I won't ever be back. Was very excited to learn a new French bakery opening in the area and went there 2nd day after it opened. Long wait to order and pay. Didn't think they were prepared for the grand opening. I make macaroons myself so I may have higher expectations. They were not pretty and didn't look like made from professional pastry chef especially for the price point. Other pastries were just ok. Almond tart very blend ha no almond flavor. Overall considering the taste, their desserts are over priced. Edit: because of your comment I am taking off another star. Like I said in the post I make macaroons myself so I know what to expect especially for $2.70 a pop I expect it to be perfect. I am sure you have seen other reviewers pictures and you call your macaroons perfect? If you open a store you should listen to your customers and accept criticism. Every single word I say in this post is true and is my honest review after spending almost $30 in your shop just for a few pieces of dessert. HAD BY FAR THE WORSE EXPERIENCE HERE!!! As is a tradition every Christmas, my family orders a mocha buttercream buche de noel cake that is often beautifully adorned in edible Christmas-themed decorations and dusted with rich cocoa powder. While we usually go to Paul or Cenan Bakery, we made the regrettable mistake of entrusting this joke of a place to fulfill our beloved Christmas tradition. Apparently, this owner's idea of a buche de noel is a giant Hostess Ho Ho - literally the driest roll of chocolate cake and overly sweet vanilla cream frosted in a layer of plastic-textured "ganache." I am known to have a raging sweet tooth, but this cake was so distasteful that I couldn't even finish my slice. We could have walked over to Giant next door and bought a much, much better cake at a fraction of the $65 paid for this inedible lump. Not to mention, there wasn't a SINGLE speck of mocha buttercream as we've ordered and she blatantly LIED to us in promising there would be made with real coffee! And then there's the customer service ... or incredible lack thereof. As my mother went to pick up the cake, she received it in a 9" pie box that was far too small and didn't even close all the way. The owner's response? "Oh it's fine, just put it on the floor of your car and it won't move around." My mother was in disbelief that this woman was being serious. She also repeatedly noted how she added complimentary flower decorations that should have been charged an extra $50 for. She had the audacity to treat those hideous flowers as a favor to our already dismal looking cake. My mother has been livid ever since from the unprofessional and unforgiving treatment she received from the owner. On the bright side, it is Christmas Eve and my family is bonding over our mutual hatred of this cake. So thanks for that, Macaron Tart. read more

My mom and I bought some macarons and safe to say it was pretty good. Then we heard about the classes they had and signed up for one together. HORRIBLE. The owner was so mean and so judgmental. She also commented on someone's weight, which was a total red flag. Just walked out of this new pastry location in Town Center. Everything looked beautiful; the pastries looked delicious but their credit card system was down so I was unable to purchase anything. I was so looking forward to trying a few of their items but I only had a credit card coming from night shift. Just a little disappointed. Hopefully they'll get it straight away throughout the day for other people. I got a six-pack of macarons and they were absolutely delicious! Definitely, the best ones I've had. The shell was soft and chewy with a delicious filling. I loved how they weren't overly sweet and the flavors really stood out. I thought the price was a bit steep but that might be normal for macarons. I don't really know to be honest. I think when you try a restaurant or bakery for the first time, you need to pick an item that best exemplifies their niche. I bypassed the cupcakes in favor of two tarts to take home on a Friday night. I chose the chocolate tart for my husband. It had black raspberries and a vanilla macaron on top. My husband has a sweet tooth to rival the best of them, and he loved it. The macaron was quite good as well. I chose a lemon tart topped with meringue. It was delicious! The lemon filling was fresh, and had a perfect balance between sweet and tart. The crust was awesome, flaky and light. I can be very critical on the crust front. The surprise was the meringue, it wasn't an afterthought, instead it was such an unexpected bonus. The meringue was silky smooth and just the right amount of sweetness. So my thoughts are these: give this shop time to find its footing. The true french style pastries that we tried were spot on. They need to key in on their best offerings, fine tune any trouble spots, and I gather spend some more time getting to know their espresso machine. In my own experience, espresso machines require quite a bit of trial and error. I wish them the best, and really hope they can make a success of this shop. read more

I think the macarons are delicious. I can't speak on price or quality because I am not familiar with other and have nothing to compare to. However, I did take the cooking class and I have to be honest, I was not impressed. I feel it was way too expensive for the quality. It felt very unorganized and all over the place and messy. This is not a very friendly business to come into. I did not feel welcomed when I was in here the customer service was terrible and the shop seems poorly managed. The sad part is the product was good, but the treatment was poor enough to stop me from ever coming back. The person who served me was very cold and had an attitude. She rolled her eyes whenever I had a question and made me feel ridiculous for asking my questions. The owner is extremely aggressive and rude and in your face about your phone in her store; she was screaming at me and my 9yr old daughter to stop taking video when I was trying to commemorate the moment of my daughter's excitement for being in the store. My daughter and I drove 40 minutes for Valentine's Day for her to pick out her macarons and she jumped for joy in the store and I was taking video of it (no one was in the background or anything), and the owner came running from the back screaming at the top of her lungs that "this is private property and no video is allowed and kept repeating herself and saying we have to ask permission." Does anyone know how to ask macarons permission to video??? The dictator/owner tarnished our happy feeling and I will never go there again. I later called her and told her how unpleasant she was and how no one expects to get yelled at while filming what was to be a happy time and we drove 40 minutes to get there and she did not apologize and said I needed everyone's permission to film (as if I was filling a dang movie for the theaters plus no one was in the short 10 second video I took other than my daughter and the macarons). I have been a repeat customer for years and I often would come and buy 12-24 count boxes all the time and had my family doing the same but this encounter made me hate the thought of ever supporting this store again. I brought my niece here for her birthday last week. I'm not sure about the name of the person who helped us, but she was very friendly and attentive to us. We ordered tea, hot chocolate, chicken pot pie and quiche. Everything was delicious and expertly prepared. She even re-made my niece's salad after we failed to inform her of a nut allergy. We loved everything we purchased on our first visit very much, with just the perfect amount of sweetness. For all of the people commenting on high prices, here's a hint for you: If the prices are too high for your wallet, then please decide that BEFORE you purchase. Not everything in this world is priced FOR YOU! You shouldn't decide you don't like the flavor of something, and THEN decide it's too expensive.. I placed an order here over the phone the morning of Tuesday, September 8, 2020 to pick up a macaron cake on September 10th for my sister's birthday. I paid for it at that moment on the phone. At 4pm on September 10, I called to confirm my pick up and she informed me that she closed at 6pm. I left work and drove from Portsmouth to Virginia Beach to pick up my cake only to see when I got there that everything was shut off in the store and the door was locked. It wasn't even 6pm yet! I called her contact number and knocked on the door for 5 minutes in case she was in the back. No luck. I sent her a message on Instagram, left her comments on her page so she would see it. She blocked me! And STILL didn't contact me about how she was going to handle the situation. At this point I don't need the cake anymore, as I needed it yesterday for my sister's birthday. I definitely need my money returned. If she had to leave early , a simple phone call would've been nice and maybe I could've gotten someone else to pick it up earlier. I was so excited to hear this place was opening because my husband is huge fan of macarons! The first time I tried to come (this was end of February) everything said it was already opened (website, gps, etc)...but it wasn't! Fast forward to today and after we had lunch I decided to try again and was excited to see they were opened. The first thing I noticed upon walking in was that there didn't seem to be any macarons in sight! There were other pastries and items displayed, but the actual macarons were on the side and there wasn't a variety. Second, there was nothing describing the macarons at all...no signs showing the flavors of anything. We ended up purchasing a sampler, and I was surprised to not see any descriptions on their either! I'd think you want them clearly labeled so people know exactly what they're getting...or giving, if they want it as a gift for someone. Flavor didn't do much because aside from the chocolate one being very clearly chocolate, they didn't have much. One had a very faint floral note to it, but it was pink so we expected a strawberry or raspberry...and the appearance wasn't all that great either. Now, I've made my share of macarons...and believe me when I say they don't all turn out perfect! However...If you have a business with the item in the name...I'd think you do a little better. I also tried a lemon tart...and I will say first that it was beautiful. The meringue on top was my favorite part. It was delicious and gooey, and a perfect compliment to the rest of the tart. The lemon itself was okay...nice and tart with a hint of sweetness. The crust was just okay. What I didn't care for was the amount of crust. It was so thick that I could barely cut through it...combine that with the minimal amount of lemon filling and it left me disappointed.
