I replaced the battery in my late 2013 MacBook Pro. It was $200 + tax, and they did it in about a half hour without needing to make an appointment. They have a texting service to notify you when it's done. The laptop is charging and functioning well, so it's worth it. I don't have any complaints about the place and would go again. They have a policy to not charge you if they can't fix it. I would recommend calling to check if they have parts before going in. The place is upstairs in a souvenir shop. read more

No warranty for their service either. Do not waste your time and money. I was even able to use it a little and could track through Final Draft and Premiere Pro. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a company. After taking my computer in to be fixed, he claimed he could not find my computer..Took my phone in to get the speaker fixed. My husband was quoted a price and then by the time it was done we paid almost double the quoted price. ALSO he messed up my facial recognition on my iPhone and told me that I needed to find someone to pay to do nano saudering. Now I have to type a 6 digit code EVERY time I want in my phone!they had my desktop for almost 2 months and didn't fix it (hard drive). so, I also had to take it somewhere else. I brought my partner's and my MacBook Pros in because the terrible 2015-2019 "butterfly" keyboard resulted in multiple broken keys. (One of the worst things of the post-Steve Jobs, non-innovation Tim Cook era; more like Tim Crock, amirite?) Dude fixed everything in like 30 minutes and also isn't looking to price gouge you. If the keys are still funny in a couple weeks, he'll work on them again for free. Place is located oddly: above one of those mid-town stores that sells wholesale goods. Difficult to find as the address basically covers the whole street. It's on the second floor of a gift shop, they have a small "MacBook repair" sign for reference. I walked in, no appointment needed, and seen immediately. Quickly diagnosed the problem in my MacBook Pro (early 2015) less than 10 minutes and told me that it would only take 30-45 mins to fix (logic board not functioning and laptop wouldn't turn on), but given I was close to their closing time I can pick it up tomorrow. For context, I took it to Apple a few days before and they said to fix it would cost $999 + tax, apple didn't tell me what the problem was, but I knew that price was ridiculous so wanted to try third-party. This shop did it quickly (I got a text it was done in less than 2 hours) and did it for a quarter of the price ($249 + tax). I highly recommend these folks! They know what they are doing and they are doing it at a very reasonable price. To think I was considering throwing my machine in the recycling and buying a new laptop because of what Apple told me! The younger guy who used to be the assistant to the owner has taken over the business; the old owner was fine, but this one is FANTASTIC. I really can't recommend him highly enough. I had some battery problems with my MacBook Air, and he took care of them perfectly. He's 100% honest and honorable, he charged less than half of what the Apple store wanted, it was a fast turnaround, and the problems are GONE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED over all others! I had serious problems with my older (A1278) MacBookPro, including an infestation of roaches (!) which had damaged the Logic Board and Motherboard. Unwilling to discard the computer because of extensive software it contained, I took it to 3 different Mac repair specialists. First, Simple Mac (where I had received satisfactory service on the same computer before). They did their usual no-charge diagnosis, but pronounced the computer "not worth saving". I then took it (twice) to Dr. Brennan (also in St. Marks Pl.) which chaged $29 each time for diagnosis, quoted me almost $700, and returned it in a plastic bag "to prevent infection here". I then went to the very professional Mac Computer Help on 34th St, which said they had a special bath process which would clean the damage. I gave then $150 for that service, but when they returned it 10 days later, the computer would no longer start up or boot at all. I was disappointed, but the technician and manager could do no better than shrug, apologize, and refund $75 of my $150. Despairing, I went finally to Mac Computer Repair at 550 8th Avenue. It wasn't promising -- upstairs at the rear of a New York City souvenir shop! But once inside (and having nothing to lose) -- THAT'S WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENED! The proprietor, Ricardo, took my now-dark machine back to his work desk. He returned only minutes later, inquiring who had worked on the computer earlier. I told him all the details, and he jovial pointed out where the previous technicians had failed to clean the Logic Board (as if paid them to do) and had not reinstalled varios interior screws and sattachments. As for my 500Gb hard drive which all three previous repair shops had said was "about to die", he said it was fine and showed no signs of age or imminent failure. Of course I had ask the data backed up, and had even bought a replacement 1278 (with the necessary identical, older 32-bit OS needed to run my extensive software). That migration would cost another $100 says Eduardo -- and might or might not be completely successful, as things like Photoshop are registered with a serial number. NO PROBLEM! He then simply moved my existing hard-drive from the damaged computer to the replacement one -- and, charging me only the cost ($50) of a new Super Drive which also needed replacing, and $0 for his labor and expertise -- I exited with a perfectly functioning computer AND all my software (probably worth $1500 or more) -- all intact, all working! read more

Model: MacBook Pro 2018 with Touch Pad Issue: Won't charge on any of the four ports I rarely leave reviews for anything, but I absolutely had to after the awesome service I was given today at MacBook Repair NYC. Ricardo is straight to the point, no B.S., and an advocate for getting you a very reasonable price for repairs on your devices. Earlier in the day, I had found out that my MacBook Pro (2018) would not charge on any of the four ports, though it was working fine the night before. I made an appointment with Apple Care Genius Bar later in the day, and they had informed me that my Logic Board needed repairing, and was the essential reason why my laptop wouldn't charge. They quoted me a flat rate of $578-- a very steep cost that I simply couldn't afford. I opted to go to another third party repair store (won't name them), and they had also told me the issue was with my logic board, quoting me $400 for repairs. Though the price was lower than Apple's I decided to go to try a third, and found MacBook Repair NYC. Ricardo had told me the issue was that one of my charging ports had blown out (I did notice one of my ports stopped charging a couple months ago but the other three were working fine at the time), causing all four to stop working. He charged me $199 for the repair, $216 including tax (90 day warranty). To be honest, I was skeptical at first, since both Apple and the other store I went to had told me the problem was with my logic board-- how was this shop telling me that it was a completely different issue for half the price? However, I just went with it. Repairs took a little under 90 minutes, and well, now my laptop is up and running! 5 stars so far; I will update in a couple months time to see how my laptop is holding up to give a final review. read more

I still have my 2011 15" MacBook Pro kicking, yep, 2020 and still kicking and working well. That's because in 2016, after I received a 'red screen of death' the Apple store replaced the motherboard for free due to a manufacturers chip-overheating malfunction. In 2019, it happened again and was no longer covered under a manufacturers defect warranty. Being from the burbs, I was skeptical of any MacBook repair store in NYC, thinking they're just out for the money, but I'll give my review here, and on Yelp to testify that this store - Macbook Repair NYC in Times Square, is awesome! I bought the expensive part online for a few hundred $ (yes, expensive I know) and then asked if they could install it (because it's an intricate process that requires tools and would just probably be better suited by an expert) -- they repaired my Macbook in one hour and the price was fair. This is my second review, because the LCD of the screen is falling out of the housing of my MacBook. This is the second time this has happened - they repaired the same issue once before. I can see the lights of the screen behind the first layer of the LCD. The internal camera is no longer connected and can not be found, despite me opening terminal and attempting to re-link. they helped with my two speakers! It took under two hours. They're both super sweet and informative. if you really wanna know what's wrong with your computer, these two are just for you! I did have to come back because we both thought that the speaker was fixed but we only realized that only certain parts were completely blown out and have the entire speaker to be replaced with new parts. They take the time and ensure that everything is working, and then explain what had been done to your computer. Of course you can just drop your electronics and just pick them up. All up to you. I did visit them during the summer during covid, and they are masked and have hand sanitizer handy. They even disinfect your electronic before and after giving it back to you. read more

I definitely recommend coming here for all of your MacBook needs. I cracked my screen on my MacBook Pro w. retina - very badly might I add. I wanted the whole thing replaced and waited too long to fix it so it kept spreading. I searched several places on Yelp as well as go to Apple to get a quote. Apple quoted me 475$ plus tax and told me it would take 4 days. Other places on Yelp quoted me a similar price as well. I finally reached out to Ricardo and his team. They quoted me 379$ and told me the whole process of changing the screen would take no longer than 20 minutes! Unfortunately, they didn't have the screen for my MacBook the first day, but Ricardo was quick in contacting his suppliers and texted me as soon as he had the screen needed on hand. This was really great! At first, I was a bit confused when I arrived at the location but then I saw there was a separate place upstairs for Macbook repairs. This was the quickest repair--I came in with a broken screen for my 2013 Macbook pro with Retina and in just about 20 minutes, I had a new screen and left shortly after with about $488 less in my pocket (the repair cost $450 for the part and labor plus tax). This was the cheapest I could get though for a screen with retina and it's working like new! Plus there's 90 day warranty for the screen. I'm pretty happy with this repair and would recommend. Lifesaver. My computer got a bad infection or something worst if possible. I had no time and no knowledge to fix it. I brought it to the store and was fixed fast and for a price way below what I had expected. I highly recommend. I basically wanted my PC back exactly like it was, with nothing changed, and not losing anything. They preserved all of my files and programs and after I booted it up it was like nothing had ever happened. Furthermore, my PC was even better than it used to be. They installed all the newest drivers and even cleaned out my dirty, filthy case and fans. I recently broke part of my macbook LCD screen and needed an entire replacement. What I liked: - Price charged was the same amount that they quoted. - SAME DAY TURN AROUND. They got the replacement done in the same day. The owner told me that he would have it done within 2 hours and when I came back 2 hours later, it didn't seem like they even started on replacing the screen. However, I just stayed in their waiting space and they got it done super quickly. Regardless if he had taken 2 or 5 hours, this turn around is faster than the Apple Store or any other computer repair shop. My Macbook is a pretty recent model so a lot of stores did not stock the LCD. - Nice people. What I disliked: - There was some confusion during payment. I paid the owner $$$ in cash and I was not given the right change. I definitely know what I paid because I took the cash out from the bank right before I went to pick up my computer. I would recommend people pay with card so that this mixup won't happen or pay with EXACT change. Overall, the service is super fast and I would recommend this place to people. I've been going here with weird problems, cracked MacBook screen, need for an upgrade, etc. They are simply honest and will give you a much better price than any mac store (like half the price), and if there is a simple solution, they will show you, and you can just do it at home. They could have quickly taken the iPad, done the simple solution, and then charged me $200, but they did not. Sometimes they have to order the parts, especially with dinosaurs like mine, so that they will give you a range of time, and also sometimes they have stuff they want to get rid of, so don't be afraid to ask the question. Replaced my late-2013, 13" Macbook Pro cracked Retina screen for just under $500 total (incl. tax); took less than 20min. Friendly and efficient. It was a little difficult to find because there are several shops with the same numbered street address. Look for "Macbook Repair" written on the left side of the awning, walk to the back of the tourist shop, and go up the stairs. I actually got it fixed while I was in the city visiting from DC. I haven't found any third-party repair centers that I trust around here and plan to come back for future repairs. read more

Apple said my logic board and several other parts were toast due to liquid damage and quoted me $795 to repair. These guys? $185 and only two parts needed fixing. Done in 1.5 hours on a random walk-in on a Friday. Just enough time for me to grab a beer nearby and power nap on their couch. Incredibly pleasant and super professional staff. Mind blown. I almost want my computer to break again just so I can save a lot of money on a repair here all over again--trying to chase that high! You can contact them for a quote via Yelp and someone will get back to you really quick, probably giving you a ballpark but saying you need to come in for an accurate estimate, obviously. He kept replacing resistors and chips on the logic board (and did so very cleanly) until he was able to solve the problem. Had he not been able to solve the problem, he would have not charged me. My friend suggested I try a non-Apple certified place to repair my keyboard, since Apple charges a bunch. I'd been without a proper keyboard for months because it was too expensive to repair when I first approached Apple. Then I found this place, and decided to take a chance, because my laptop is essential for work. I spoke with Rex on the phone, and he quoted me $199 including labor, which sounded great. When I arrived, he told me I can pick it up later, since it wasn't going to take that long to repair. I guess I didn't properly follow the trail (or non-trail, at this point) of text messages because I arrived right before closing, only to discover the work wasn't complete. I was then aggressively pushed aside (in that silent-body-dominating-way) by a tall white woman who came in for repair as I was standing near the counter and gathering up my things to leave in sorrow. The next day, I received a text message and a phone call about the completion of the service. When I returned, Rex also told me my battery was melting, and only charged me an additional $99 to repair. I don't know shit about computers, so I agreed and hoped he wasn't trying to upsell me. I also hoped they didn't look into my files during the repair, which I didn't secure before I handed in my laptop. These guys are the real deal. I went to them after dropping soy milk on my laptop and unfortunately nothing could be done (a repair shop I went to earlier seemed to have ruined any chance of fixing it.) My data was corrupted so they restored the hard drive and put it into my new laptop (that had lower memory) free of charge. I've also been here after my iPhone screen went blank after dropping it, and they fixed it for cheap, explaining what went wrong and making sure it worked before I left. I was using Photoshop on my 2012 MacBook Pro when all of the sudden, the screen went grey. I took my MBP to the Apple Store. They ran a video test and it failed. Basically, Apple doesn't make the graphics card part anymore and the best thing I can do was go to a repair shop to get the hard drive out and get it enclosed to be used as an external hard drive. The genius person suggested a repair shop in Chelsea. When I went on Yelp to look at reviews for Mac repairs, I stumbled upon MacBook Repair NYC. After reading great reviews of this place, I called and Ricardo quoted me $40. A great price as it softened the blow a little. It took less than 10 minutes for Rex to take out my hard drive from my MBP and enclose it. Now I have all my data.
