    a variety of japanese food

Excellent, second time coming here. Quality is consistently great. Service is also excellent.

Unagi fried rice, where are the unagi? So chef's name is probably unagi, and he fried the rice. Also rolls are tiny, can't fill up at all

No fish in the fried rice, tiny portion of special roll that cost 15 bucks. If I want real good sushi go to Victoria downtown and try Zen sushi. Will not recommend tourist to try this place.

    "Dream Roll" combo

We were simply driving by the other day and realized there was a sushi place we hadn't been to. And we go to a lot of sushi places! So, we came the next day. Unassuming and hardly "eye-catching", Machi Sushi sits in a barely visible corner of a pretty bare strip-mall style neighbourhood corner. However, entering in, the cozy sushi bar is modern, clean, and comfortable. I have no idea how long it's been here, but not that long by the looks of things. We were greeted right away, and picked our own table. Menu's came fast. My first complaint was the fact that they only offered Sapporo beer on tap, but no matter: I wasn't here for beer anyway. We ordered the "Dream Roll" combo which had a large assortment of rolls, including one of their "specialty" rolls. It also included salad and miso soup and ice cream to boot! The soup and salad came first. While nothing out of the ordinary, the soup was perfectly salted (often miso soup can be either too salted or flavourless), and while most sushi places offer the same salad, this one was actually *presented*, rather than being thrown onto a plate and doused in dressing/oil. There was surprising care taken over these two standard dishes that bode well for the rest of the meal. The sushi rolls arrived and I tried each one after another. Not a single one disappointed. Not even the very basic style roll that is one meat wrapped in rice and then seaweed, with nothing else. The seaweed tasted fresh, and the rice was perfectly cooked. If I had to nit-pick something, there was a little too much fisheggs on some of the rolls, but frankly I can't complain about any of them. The specialty roll was also fantastic. Finally, the small serving of ice cream was good wrap up. But, without any apparent reason, the chef also gifted us a second small dessert! We left very satisfied, and think we have found our new sushi place!

In my opinion this has got to be the best japanese restaurant in town. All of the sashimi was fresh and tasty. The presentation of the food is perfection. Furthermore, Andy the owner is super friendly. When I'm in town, I'm definitely coming back.

It's right in the main tourist area so it was really easy to find. The menu is extensive and has a ton of options so it was hard to pick what to get. I got a chocolate cone with the brownie dip. My husband got a vanilla cone with the praline dip. And my toddler got a cup of chocolate ice cream with the chocolate dip. We all enjoyed what we ordered. It was super rich and delicious. However it was really messy so it was hard to not get it all over yourself and you had to eat it quickly. My only complaint was we ordered 3 different sizes (the smallest one they had and the next two sizes up) and they were all about the same size. For the expensive price, it was a bit frustrating to pay for a small size but get the same size as the smallest one they offer.

The larger sizes (which pricey) are huge!! Each ice cream (ex. chocolate, vanilla) can be put in a cup, cone, or waffle cone. You can then choose the flavor it gets dipped into. Finally, you can choose if you want the extra toppings for a fee. I personally love the cookies and cream one with vanilla ice cream. Service is fast and everything is visible. It's so fun to see each ice cream get made! There are also other desserts available if you want something to go, or a souvenir. There is free water. Just grab a clean cup and pour it yourself.

Great customer service, Delicious desserts [Victoria BC]…read more I really wanted to try their Crepe Cake but was told that they sold out and won't get them again the following week. Not sure what ingredients they were waiting shipment for. So I chose a Japanese Soufflé Cheesecake next... same thing! Bummer. So hopefully they have the Egg Bubble Waffle and they did! Third time's a charm. We actually came here twice for dessert. The first time we had the Tiramisu Egg Bubble Waffle and then we came back again the next day and had the Chocolate Egg Bubble Waffle. They both look similar. The owners, young couple, were always hard at work and friendly too, especially the husband. They have their small children in the restaurant with them. The desserts were delicious. Hubby and I shared one both times... it was massive. They also have a separate menu for soup, salad, apps... and sushi! They are in the historic Dominion Hotel in Victoria's Old Town (an impressive, 4-story brick building located at the southwest corner of Blanshard and Yates Streets). Interior is pretty too with the fancy chandelier lighting. We found metered street parking. Located across the Cineplex Odeon Victoria Cinemas in Downtown Victoria BC. We got the mango yogurt smoothie, matcha brown sugar pearl milk, and soya cream boba milk tea. I feel like this is the worst tasting boba that I've had. It definitely didn't help that I was just in Vancouver the day before and probably had the best boba drink ever. The matcha was low quality, the mango smoothie was powdery, and the soya drink was bland

i really wanted to like this café, and honestly, i'd still recommend it for the aesthetics alone…read more the interior is beautiful, with glossy black and white checkered floors, soft white paneling, and a chandelier that adds a touch of elegance above the counter. natural light pours in from the tall front windows, illuminating the pastry case and giving the whole space a serene, gallery like feel. it's a calming spot to step into, and would be an ideal setting for a proper afternoon tea service. i ordered an almond croissant, french bread pudding, and the gateau du jour, green tea and vanilla, along with a yuzu maccha (sourced from jagasilk), all to go. the drink was the biggest disappointment, the yuzu flavour was absent, and the matcha itself was weak. on top of that, there's a small surcharge for ice (.50, which i did not expect) and oat milk (.50). the almond croissant looked promising with its golden shell and slivered almonds, though the nuts themselves weren't fully toasted, which made the topping feel a little underwhelming. the interior leaned more dense than the airy, flaky layers i'd been hoping for. this sometimes happens when the lamination doesn't quite hold or the proofing isn't ideal, not unusual with croissants, but still a letdown in contrast to its appearance. the green tea cake was beautifully presented, with neat layers of sponge and green tinted buttercream, but leaned on the sweeter side, with only a subtle whisper of green tea. the bread pudding, reheated at home, was the highlight, soft, custardy, and lifted by the vanilla cream sauce it came with. seating is limited but cozy, with a handful of small tables inside and a couple more out on the sidewalk. their selection is broad: whole cakes, slices, macarons, crème brûlée, tarts, cookies, all arranged neatly in the front window to tempt passersby. the café's charm lies in its design and atmosphere. it's worth a visit if you're nearby and want a chic spot to sit and relax, and i'd go back to try their other cakes, the display alone makes it hard not to.

Even though it was the middle of winter and it was near closing, there was still a good number of people inside buying buns and not all of them seemed to be tourists like us. We ended up getting a number of different items: Custard Ball ($2.99) - We warmed this up in a toaster oven, giving a bit of the crust on the exterior edges of the donut, especially on the top where the powdered sugar turns into an almost crème brulee-like topping. The crumb is very fluffy fried and is filled with a sweetened vanilla custard. (4/5) Ube Custard Ball ($2.99) - This has the same donut dough base as the normal custard ball, but is filled with a dark purple ube cream. It's sweet and earthy, albeit not necessarily the most heavily ube flavored. (4/5) Original Ube Ensaymada ($2.99) - This bun, extremely fluffy and nice to eat, has an interesting spiral pattern construction at least when viewed from the bottom, but it's not apparent inside the bun. The bun is sweet and again there's not too much ube flavor. If it wasn't purple I'm not sure I could identify it as ube in flavor. (4/5) Classic Pandesal ($0.99) - Lightly sweet, great soft texture. It's pandesal, not too much else to say. (4/5) Overall the baked goods Friends & Family Bake sells are pretty good. Most of the items are soft, fluffy and sweet, perfect for breakfast or a dessert.
