Long-time MacKenzie-Childs customers here -- our family has been shopping at the Aurora location for over 20 years, and many of our favorite memories are tied to the original Barn Sale. It was such a unique experience that brought people together from all over the country and made the brand feel personal, exciting, and community-driven. During our recent visit, my mother mentioned to the cashier how much we missed the Barn Sale and the memories associated with it. Unfortunately, the employee responded in a very dismissive way, repeatedly saying she was glad it was gone because the online version makes more money and that she would never want to participate in something like that. The conversation felt unnecessarily cold and dismissive toward customers simply sharing fond memories of a tradition connected to the brand. We completely understand that businesses evolve and events change. What was disappointing was the attitude toward loyal customers who helped support and celebrate those traditions for decades. The products and grounds are still beautiful, but the interaction left us saddened. A little warmth and acknowledgment would have gone a long way. read more

Placed on the itinerary for Saturday, we stopped here to do some shopping and take a tour. The shop is very large and has a motley of inventory, but it's not my scene and I decided to sit in the courtyard and play on my phone. Staff seemed fine and I can't speak to the quality of items compared to yesteryear. We took the tour of the farm house which was wild. I made a reservation for the tour but they never checked names or anything. Also it wasn't a guided tour bc the AC was out, which was good bc we were able to explore ourselves rather than get held up by tough folks. People, places, and things... that's what makes MC special. The history, artisans, and experience if you're a collector. I came here in 1992 with my dad and step-mom when they started their collection. Spanning 31+ years of marriage. I'm working their collection into mine to celebrate their love and love of everything MC. Tour guide was amazing, painted Easter Egg Vase and Plate with my husband for this getaway weekend. It had not shipped or even had time to be handled since it was a holiday so I responded that I would refuse the shipment. I will also cancel this payment with my credit card company. Absolutely love visiting the store. The property is stunning. All the workers are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend taking the house tour, it's a really unique experience. They have limited inventory, some is discounted. A little bummed that everything is no longer discounted and the prices aren't as great. This location went from being a regular store to an outlet. Depending on your pattern or what you are looking for you can find some real steals. That said I often don't buy anything my pattern is rarely more than 20% off. It is a fun place to take visitors or pick up some gifts to keep on hand like travel mugs or hand towels. Located on the outskirts of Aurora, New York is the most gorgeous farm you've ever laid your eyes on! The MacKenzie-Child's Aurora location is GORGEOUS! It's a lovely drive through the countryside to get there. Your trip will be full of wildflowers and beauty. Honestly, have someone else drive you there so you can actually enjoy the views. Upon arrival, you'll drive up a grand brick entryway to the cutest buildings. We visited on one of the barn sale days and had the opportunity to look through their entire discounted section which was an added bonus. I got to add a new Christmas decoration to my collection. The rest of our visited included marveling at the many well kept gardens and visiting their animals that are throughout the property. I'm so sad- I was excited to visit last Saturday, the one sales person was extremely rude, Snobby-- well, I'm sorry because without us customers- you wouldn't have a job, and hanging up on me twice isn't making this company look good at all. Yes, I am concerned over all the horrible reviews, had I known , I wouldn't have gone. But to HANG UP on a customer whom was asking WHY a $180 tea kettle rusts and also not to take constructive criticism, Makes me know, your over- priced made in China products makes me happy that unless you turn it around-- it will be gone. I bought online 2 Gingerbread Cookie Trees (one large and one small). The large one was like expected but unfortunately the small one doesn't have definitively the quality of the big one. The small one had no contrast between the "gingerbread cookie" and the "ice sugar". So, I ask them for an exchange and after asking me pictures they reply "Thank you for providing the photos. Our products are made from a few different vendors and therefore all will vary in coloration. The uniqueness of the products and variations is one of the things we love most about our brand". They don't have a serious quality service or no quality service at all and they explain to you when you don't have what you ordered that it is NORMAL! But SORRY when you buy something you WANT to have exactly what you see! So, they didn't accept an exchange, they didn't offer a free return! And they wrote "The only way to guarantee you get products that match your liking in the future would be to hand pick them at a retail location"!?!?!? I was a fan of McKenzie Child's quirky designs until I had a problem. Then I discovered their horrible customer service. They do not give a crap about you. I bought several of their tissue holders in the black & white check. After owning them for 3 or 4 months I noticed a red stain on my bathroom countertop. Turns out the enamel coating they applied did not adhere correctly or was too thin and the metal box was rusting. I contacted their customer service/sent pictures several times without reply. Several more attempts and I finally got them to respond. You are going to love this: they said that I bought a metal tissue box and what did I expect? They said sorry about my luck but there was nothing they could do for me! No, sorry about your luck! I'll never buy from you again. BUYER BEWARE! If you're looking for that beautiful quality craftsmanship that Mackenzie Childs has always had, you won't find it in their current merchandise. Their quality has been compromised. I have nothing against China if the quality is up to par, but this stuff Mackenzie Childs is trying to pass on as classic Mackenzie Childs merchandise is absolutely atrocious. Aside from the materials being inferior, the craftsmanship is horrendous. Clearly this was made in a factory and mass produced at the lowest quality possible. It looks like an imitation. I have the same exact canisters made several years ago, and these current jars are nothing like what I have. From a distance, they look like the real thing, but to the touch and at closer inspection, the painting looks like it was done by a child. It is pure junk. What a pity that a beautiful company has succumbed to greed and low standards. If you want quality Mackenzie Childs merchandise, I would think buying older items on line would be a better choice. Absolutely abysmal customer service in-store today. I was here 2 weeks ago and spent a significant amount of money and took a lovely tour that was offered at checkout. Today, however, I drove 3 hours prepared to purchase, again, and tour the home for inspiration for my purchases. When I walked in at noon and asked when the next tour would be I was told 1:00 by one saleswoman. I browsed the store and found that the 3 items I came for were not in stock. I went to make a smaller purchase with the intent of returning after the tour to make a larger purchase and was then told by another saleswoman that there wouldn't be any more tours. I didn't mention being told by the first woman that the tour was at 1:00 and was snippily told that I had to "sign up" prior to the tour or the guide will have left. Excuse me, what?! Strange that that has changed in the past 2 weeks. Her attitude was absolute garbage. Not only was my time wasted but I was able to overhear an extremely rude conversation on the phone regarding my request for her to check and see if there were any possibility I could still tour the home. I left the store without purchasing anything and will order any further MC items online. Thanks for ruining the experience for me. read more

I read all the 119 BBB complaints and was one of the first to post on yelp about your quality issues and overpricing in 2018. It seems many other people are having the same issues and your brand is going down the tubes. The quality of the painting on your products looks like it was painted in a 5th world country. Ceramics are an exception to this as the artwork seems "okay". This morning I tried to order some clearance items as I'm not paying your ridiculous prices for cheap products anymore. You don't even have any customer service via phone to contact for orders, only email. Excuse me but when I'm trying to buy your $12,000 Boheme Daybed and can't on the internet how do you expect your customers to purchase it? Extremely disappointed in the terrible customer service. This used to be a company with top notch quality and service. It's the exact opposite. There is no longer a phone number or a live person to reach for customer support. Order a single chair to replace one that previously broke. Was charged $225 for white glove delivery. The delivery driver dropped off a pallet in my driveway in 20 degree weather and refused to open it to allow to check for damage. Was told it's curbside delivery. Didn't even take away the garbage. My aunt bought me a tea kettle as a gift in the summer. Because of family life and scheduling we did not get to see each other until after the holidays when she brought me the tea kettle she ordered for me. This item was still in the box it shipped. There were two large chips in the enamel of the kettle. When I emailed (because phone calls are not an option) with photos, the customer service folks informed me that since it was out of the 30 day return window, there is nothing they could do. Then i made the argument that even if out of the window, this is an indication of bad quality of craftsmanship. If the tea kettle chips in less than a year. ALSO when looking in the box there were no paint chips, so this was also sent in this condition. Their response was to offer me 20% off the purchase of a new kettle. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! So I replied that this is unacceptable and bad business practice. And they said there is nothing they can do. I know this kettle was a gift but i will NEVER purchase anything from this company!! UPDATE: They did eventually send me a gift card to replace the kettle. It took a few more rounds of back and forths with the customer service reps. read more

Exceptional! We drove 4 hours one way to get here. The store was full of items and the farmhouse tour was so so fun. All of the staff were really friendly and welcoming. I bought my first Mackenzie Child pieces. The grounds are beautiful as is the little town of Aurora. You could definitely make an overnight of it and stay at one of the inns in Aurora which is literally 2 minutes from the shop and farmhouse. Such a fun day! read more

Be very careful when shopping online with this company. NEVER select a backordered product. I made this mistake. The availability date moved out from June to November in 1-2 month increments, and last time I checked just showed backordered with no date. In those 5 months I relocated, changed my address in my MC account, and received other MC items at the new address. The backordered product from 5 months ago was shipped to the old address with no notice prior to shipping. When I finally heard from customer service, which is only available through email, I was told repeatedly, too bad, nothing they could do to redirect the package. Pillows with sewn appliqués range at a price point from $295 - $395. Smaller items are available for sale as well at lower price points. One item is MC Glow candles that are $24 for a pair of tapers. All the pottery looked like Alice in Wonderland. Nothing unique for shape, color or style. Looked mass produced. And.....hugely expensive for what it is. If I'm going to buy an art piece I don't want something that hundreds of other people have. Other than an expensive sun tea pitcher nothing looked like something I'd use everyday. I visited for the barn sale and it was quite an experience! We waited in line for about 30 minutes but it went by quick. You can take pics in line and purchase drinks. Once you're in the tents for the barn sale, it's HOT. Like sauna hot. Dress accordingly! If you go in the shop or the Farm House, you'll find air conditioning. The sale has most of their products available for 50% off. New styles weren't available (like Royal Check) under the tent but were in the store for 20% off. There were daily deals under the tents that had an extra 20% off and some items were marked as 70% off the original price. If you're not sure if you want something, grab it so you don't have to go searching for it again. If you change your mind, they have restock shelves under just about every tent. Check their website for the daily themes for the barn sale so you can dress up! Bring water and a folding utility cart if you have one. read more

I emailed them four times asking for a price adjustment of items I ordered and that went on sale four days later, and they just ignored the emails. Better off going to a retail store such as Bloomies, Saks etc where they actually have customer service. It is now August 12th, the wedding was August 8th and the gift still hasn't shipped. Rather embarrassing to have to include a catalog picture in the wedding card and unable to tell the couple when they can expect the gift. Numerous emails sent to customer service were responded to with the usual boilerplate bs but no follow-up emails or resolution. I, foolishly, also ordered from the online barn sale. While they did include a caveat that shipping would take several weeks(really?), I'm not expecting those items to ship in this calendar year. Abysmal service. I love the idea of Mackenzie-Child products and have lots. They just started an outdoor line that is obviously not handmade, but more durable. After ordering two topiaries to frame my front door for Christmas, they are only shipping one. The other is out-of-stock with no futures delivery dates guarantee. Since I cannot use one and they allowed me to purchase two, it is now MY responsibility to pay for shipping the lone topiary back to them. Not their responsibility to know their inventory, not their responsibility to let me know my order had changed, and not their responsibility to allow me to cancel the order or choose something else. All I wanted was my complete order or the option for a complete order for the holidays. We enjoyed a spontaneous stop at this wonderful 65 acre store in upstate New York. I wish I'd had the foresight to coincide the visit with the farmhouse tour but then it wouldn't have been spontaneous and you can't have everything. Still, it would have been fun to see Mackenzie furniture in its natural setting. The merchandise is definitely whimsical. I wouldn't mind a few pieces dotted around my house but it's way expensive. One day! I read somewhere that the tiny town of Aurora has about 500 residents most of them who are employed by Mackenzie-Childs.
