All over I have been very happy with my experiences at this hospital. They see me fairly quickly for a hospital and help me with whatever I am dealing with. I only had one negative experience at this hospital where a probably overworked doctor/nurse yelled at me but aside from that one experience, all my experiences have been exceptional with excellent care and service. LONG wait times in the chemotherapy clinic even when you do have an appointment - which is understandable given that if the patient before you came in a little bit later than their own appointment or if someone needed extra care, have extra questions, all of this are factors into why you're early/on time for your appointment, but you're sitting here in the waiting room for FOREVER. Nurses are short staffed due to Bill 124, some of you may read this review and not care and just think "ahh that sucks for them", but it doesn't only take a toll on the nurses, but also on us and our love ones. With that said, the world is currently short staffed, be kind to the ones who showed up. Nurses, doctors, the volunteers, janitors, Resturant staff, gift shop staff and more are kind and resourceful here. I honestly think Mackenzie Health is amazing!! My son in law is currently a patient in their mental health unit. He has been for 6 weeks. They believe he has depression and bipolar symptoms. They have changed his medication constantly, not even giving any time for these medications to work. Our daughter has politely questioned the nurses on duty. They then tell the patient that his wife is upset with them. Then the patient gets all rilled up. In order to speak with the doctor, my daughter has to go through a social worker, to relay the message to the doctor. Why do people need a middleman? Then the social worker tells my daughter that since her husband is an ad, he can speak for himself. Are you kidding me? He has problems with his memory and cognition, due to the drugs they give him, and he is supposed to advocate for himself. He's in the mental health ward, not the fracture clinic! He also was switched to another doctor, without warning, because the first one was only part time. Every nurse or staff member follows different rules. There is no consistency! One allows visitors to take their purse onto ward, another one insists it must be put in the locker. This whole atmosphere seems more like a prison, not a place of healing. The patients get absolutely no stimulation. They just eat, sleep, take pills, use the bathroom. Occasionally they colour or watch television, or go exercise. No one talks to them for more than a minute, except the doctor, who is always in a rush to get to the next patient. The rooms are bright, place is clean, but that's it. We as family are trying to set up a meeting with the new doctor to get some answers to our questions. We will never use this hospital again. We've heard nothing but bad things about cortellucci hospital. Stay away! read more

I was admitted there once. I asked the nurse for vegan lunch. I had to clarify no dairy, no eggs, no meat, no fish... It's like I'm talking to an aunt and not to a healthcare professional. She checked all that on her system under "allergies" even though I'm not allergic to any of the above. Later I was served a cheesy pizza and a chicken soup! How can a hospital mess up such simple task so badly? even mom & pop restaurants know better than that! It's as though they don't care at all about their patients and that they are trying really hard to keep them sick. I can forgive the long waiting time and their horrible manners as I understand that they are understaffed. But this is so messed up that I had to leave the hospital against medical advice. I have always heard about how messed up the Canadian healthcare system is but I wasn't aware that it's that bad! Overall it was an eye opening experience for me. different areas of hospital are generally pretty good 4-5 stars but ER is tough 2-3 stars since it is the busiest in the city so it's always busy (after midnight- yikes!) I gave birth there a few weeks ago, delivery room/staff=5* post ward after delivery 3.5* PUCC ward for infant(was there the next few days after delivery) 4* ER (was there 8 days post delivery to get stitches restitched) 2.5* reason being, long wait times, crowded waiting room, couldn't sit, one nurse came into room abruptly without explaining why and rummaged the area, other nurses were fairly plesant to neutral- best part was the doctor doing stitches and nurse assisting were 5*, it's really tough to be in the ER for anyone, but they are over crowded due to the area. Went in last year after a ten foot fall. Dr Fu Ping sent me home after a quick once-over. He said I was fine but he missed four broken ribs, severe back contusions, several herniated discs, and an 8 inch full thickness gluteal tear. All this was confirmed a few days later at a pain clinic and several more rounds of xrays. This is not the first time Dr Fu Ping has misdiagnosed me. Five years ago I came in with severe chronic diarrhea. He said I had c diff when In fact it turned out I had crohn's and overlapping autoimmune disease. He never even followed up after he learned the c diff was negative five days later. So sick of this place and the ineptitude and lack of skill of the ER doctors. I could come in dead one day, and Dr Fu Ping would just recommend some Advil. read more

Hi my name is Andrew Hinds I am give this crummy run hospital a 2/10 rating because that's being vary generalous because of it's poorly trained staff or they just don't care fore the patient . They are really rude & impolite, they mostly don't care about a person's needs ,or concerns .I went into Mackenzie hospital again Dec. 27/2023 couldn't walk do to extreme pain at 9:00am had to wait in a hospital wheel chair till 8:00pm when I was finally admitted didn't get a room left in ahallway . , nurses would only come by if they remembered me not too often. Had a dead patient put in a spare room down the hallway had to deal with the dead patients family that were grieving of the patient's death . In the morning got worse with a screaming. Patient that had a drug problem, was told I had the same problem by a nurse that could read my past reports on my reoccurring problems!! From last July's long stay in Mackenzie hospitals (5 months) before being transferred to a specialist rehab hospital !! Later in the day was told I was right I didn't have a drug problem! But the nurse didn't apologize just walked away.. stayed in the urgent care ward from Dec. 27 till Jan 16 for test ? No comments of ably test results , had 3 blood transfusions told had a tooth problem and needed surgery stayed back in the same ward for for 2 days ,when to icu care ward for a week 1 more blood transfusions got back to urgent care unit , this time private room only 2 nurses looked after me.Still no communication of what had happened or what was happening , 2 more blood transfusions , discharged Feb.16 to a different rehab hospital where I am now!! Worst hospital ever. I don't understand how these people are hired. I've been to the emergency room twice and the palliative care unit. The first time I went, I waited hours in the emergency room (which I know is common for all hospitals) with second degree sugar burns. I finally got to see the nurse and she walked in, looked at it (at the door) and said "Those are second degree burns. Just put some polysporin on it" and got someone to wrap my hand (which were starting to blister). She was so apathetic, and all the other nurses in that unit were the same. Extremely rude and didn't show even an ounce of care. I had burns all over my leg (remember these were SUGAR burns) and my arm. I went home, no instruction for care and was in so much pain the next couple of days. The wounds on my leg started bleeding and oozing and so I went to Urgent Care instead. The doctors note they gave me didn't even have anything written on it. Just my name. I went back a couple of months later because I hit my head on ice and was so nauseated the next day I thought I had a concussion. Waited hours, was extremely nauseated, and the doctor came in and said because I didn't throw up (I am very good at keeping myself from doing so) he wasn't going to do anything. Just rest. I felt that even though he may have been correct, there was little care and attentiveness to my condition. The world was literally spinning. This was all before COVID. The third time I came here was for someone in palliative care suffering from cancer. The amount of care given by the nurses were close to none. The patient would throwup all over himself and they would not bother help cleaning it up. They just gave him new clothes and had his wife do it. They did nothing to help making his end of life care comfortable and enjoyable (he was so weak already). He was struggling to breathe today and all the nurses were too busy to attend to him, and so he passed away. I went to see him and was looking for a ring that he may have dropped on the bed. We asked the nurse if they've seen it and the amount of shit she gave. None. I was so angry with the way she spoke to the grieving family, saying she didn't touch him at all. She came into the room and told us to search his bed. Remember, he JUST passed away and the nurse didn't bother helping us. I understand there may be protocols due to COVID, but the family was GRIEVING. She told us to look under the blanket he was laying on, and when we "weren't doing it right", she very roughly pulled over the blanket (He ended up rolling over). This is NO way to treat someone who just passed away. There was NO respect for the family or for the patient. I was so angry with her. She had no ounce of care in the way she talked to us nor the way she treated the patient and family. When we were leaving, her condolences were so fake, and scripted. I understand that working in this setting, she must witness a lot of deaths. But as a nurse it is her responsibility to learn how to communicate with families and how to better offer them support especially after a loved one's passing. If you have a loved one and you're thinking of moving them to palliative care, do NOT move them to this hospital. Quality of care was shit. I don't understand how this hospital has such high reviews. No support was given to the family. I am so angry with the treatment, the staff needs to be better trained. read more

It's hard to quantify how I feel about this hospital. There are some really talented and lovely people who work tirelessly here to make the patients feel taken care of and in good hands. I've spent a lot of time here and have had multiple surgeries over the past few months, and I feel like I know it well. The layout and design of this place is abysmal. Tr parking lot is a joke. The rooms are hot and small, the HVAC is outdated, and nothing makes much sense. It's also really showing its age, and even the nurses I can tell are frustrated with having to deal with the layout and design. They are set up to fail in many ways. The food here is actually pretty good, for hospital food. It's hit and miss but if you spend enough time here you learn what and what not to order when the ladies come around with the ipad and ask for your order. (Highlights: muffins, oatmeal, burgers, turkey dinner, pasta, all stellar. Avoid the fish. Soup is hit and miss.) There are some really curt and rude staff here. There are also some real angels who have restored my faith in humanity. Shout out to the ultrasound lady, you're amazing and turned my whole visit around with your kindness and advice. I look forward to the Vaughan Hospital being completed, and I hope they pick and choose the staff from this joint and move them over there, give them the facilities they deserve. the staff was awful. Dr. Stasiak is the most unprofessional poorly trained physician I've ever had the displeasure to be treated by. He runs an equally incompetent staff. I came in for an iv after vomiting extensively and not drinking for 24 hours and having a history of psychosis when triggered. Was not seen for three hours even for so much as an iv because I am under 18 and dr stasiak was the only one who could order the iv. that didn't stop him from waiting until I was wretching in a room having a panic attack and bawling my eyes out. he heard my distress and sent two nurses in who promptly yelled in my face to "stop breathing like that" and would not leave when I told them they were further distressing me. I asked for anxiety medication which i am prescribed at home but I was told to receive any type of treatment I would have to see the doctor who was listening to me cry through the curtain writing a report for 40 minutes while my grandpa begged him to treat me, for my dehydration or my panic attack. he finally walked in and I begged for an iv and antinausea medication. he went sure. was that so hard. you didn't have to disrupt everything. I told him i was hyperventilating because of a panic attack after being refused treatment for three hours in a discriminatory fashion because of my age he dismissed me saying he's seen hundreds and that's no excuse and started raising his voice at me and moving into my space. i felt very uncomfortable and when I said so he refused to leave and kept berating me until we could get my mom on the phone. when he was informed of my medical history he made no previous effort to even peer at i was given an atavin with urgency. after being violated by three "medical professionals " i was inconsolable and on the verge of passing out from dehydration and hyperventilation. Dr Philip stasiak is the bad doctor one hears about in the media. someone so untrained with a bed side manner that borders on abusive and hostile. if Mackenzie health wishes to maintain their integrity as a hospital and trauma center they should fire dr Joe stasiak immediately and replace him with someone with adequate mental health training that doesn't send nurses in to yell at patients he's too good to treat. in an ideal world his license would be taken away. read more

I was not here at MacKenzie Health for Emergency ward so I did not wait for hours in the waiting area. Parking was such a pain though. They really need to have a sign showing that the short term parking lot is full and direct traffic to the other lot. I was circling around in a smallish lot for the longest time until I talked to one of the securities that suggested I tried other lots. Was admitted from emergency, initial thoughts I'm in the wrong place, doctors lack sympathy and knowledge are proudly not on displa, sadly, nurse staff seems to be trying to make up for these shortcomings. Since they did not treat anything and wanted to send me home, I requested to be reviewed by another doctor, hours later I was admitted. Once on the floor, its like a whole other place, nurses are pleasant, doctors make every effort to resolve your issues and the beds are comfortable. Not bad! The actual purpose of my review is the food, I've eaten food at downtown hospitals and must say the food here is better, no, not good, but better. It seems like the food at MH is made fresh on site, every day someone comes by to let you know what is being made and the surrounding options i.e. coffee/tea, extra milk/cream and sometimes a second choice for food. As far as hospital food goes, this is bland but not the worst. After a few days, get someone to sneak in salt/pepper and boom! But I would never do that. read more

So many people put this hospital down. If they don't say negative things about the hospital, it's bad things about the staff and doctors and other support staff. Well, it was my turn to experience the hospital as I injured myself playing of all things frisbee! I dislocated my shoulder and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. The ambulance driver registered me and the receptionist told me, when it was my time, to go to my designated area. I was code red and the walls are labeled easily to navigate where I had to go. It wasn't long to have a nurse who was very pleasant to take xrays and we joked around. Though I was in pain, she had me smiling and giggling and I was very comfortable. It was confirmed, I have a dislocated shoulder. I was at the fracture area of the hospital and again, a team of staff kept my comfort level great and I seen the doctor looking at some xrays and he glanced over at me and acknowledged me and smiled. I knew I was in good hands. Less than an hour later he greeted me, told me he has to sedate me to put my arm and shoulder into place. They immediately started preparing the room. Another doctor came in the room with the meds. She kept chatting with me and I kept telling her how nice everyone is and before I knew it... I was only talking to a nurse as everything was already done and I just needed one more xray to confirm the procedure was done correctly! Wow! Amazing!!! The same nurse came to do the xray. Again, joking and we are laughing down the hallway to the xray room and everything was perfect. So, I thanked the doctor who did the procedure and told him that him and the entire staff are top notch! The best of the best! He told me this is what they do. They work for us! WOW! I can't even thank them enough. I was there for less than 3 hours. I have a follow up appointment. I am actually looking forward to going to. I will let you know how it goes. This is the absolute worst hospital ever. I didn't think anything of it when my grandfather told me about the abuse he's received here, but after witnessing it myself I am appalled. These workers, the doctors, the nurses are supposed to be helping people. Having patience and kindness towards each patient and I've barely seen that in the time visiting my granddad. The staff always ignore requests or anything he says. He asks for water, or Tylenol, they ignore him and continue to type on their stupid little computers as if he's invisible. They just come to each patient to do their job (bring the medicine, give the shot) but neglect all other needs. Their way of communication is also horrible. They yell at my granddad so rudely because he can't hear very well. He wanted to take a walk one time around the hospital with me, not outside but just in the building. As soon as we got 5 steps out this Asian nurse with glasses starts yelling "HEY WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!!" when the doctor beforehand told my grandfather he was able to walk if he pleased. And that whole day this nurse was like that, very rude, loud and impatient. I was getting ready to clock her. It was that bad. Like I'm sorry but are you here to help people? Cause if not get another freaking job. Show some respect and kindness towards these elderly patients. They are sick and have no idea most of the times what is going on. Don't you know how scary it is to be in there for them? Alone most times and the only time you can see someone is when they come visit. Currently sitting in room waiting for my sister to have her head stitched. They put us in a room with dirty bed sheets and paper cover that was clearly used, also bandage wrappers all over the counter. No one has even offered Ice or a bandage to cover her open cut. Terrible hospital, terrible staff. Went to visit my mother, who was admitted by ambulance for a near death, choking incident. In the hospital, they found signs of pneumonia and bacteria in the blood. Dr Gladman did update me on her progress and treatment plan, which I greatly appreciate. But my brother went to visit and said that she is not the same woman, and said I should go see her. But of course, staff don't care, and wouldn't let me see her. I have never encountered worse, nurses, shift manager, emergency reception are all apathetic and couldn't care less. Not one person there showed compassion or empathy for a daughter wanting to see her mother in the ICU. By the sounds of it, they just chained her up to a bed and left her. Then shifted her to another ward without notifying the family. No staff there wants to go above and beyond, because that would be too inconvenient for them. Not one of them will help you if it means they have to make an actual decision based on compassion. There is no humanity at this hospital. In hindsight, if you can kiss ass well, these narcissistic sadists may help you, but when someone you care for is there in a questionable state, it's hard to be in an ass kissing mood. read more

If I could do no star, I would do that. The emergency room of this place is disaster and don't even get me started on the Long term care facility of Mackenzie Health. I don't know if long term care and the hospital are under the same management but they sure are equally horrible. I lost my mother at this hospital. For a negligence of a PSW she fell off the bed and ended up with femur fracture and a surgery. Then for a negligence of a doctor she was released too soon back to long term care. While she had phenomena we waited 2 days in emergency room to be admitted back to the hospital. By the time she was admitted back to a room her phenomena was progressed and she was without her Parkinson medication for way too long. She passed away shortly after that. Surgeons are very intelligent. Food is great. Had three chowders, vegetable, corn, and one other that was so good I'd want to drive here if it was on the cafeteria menu. The other food is great too if you eat it while it's hot but as a patient you can't always eat right away. I had to go there to visit my aunt. Parking is expensive just like any other hospital. It is a good thing she did not stay there too long. I have to say went to the restaurant and got two pizza pizza slices. For some reason they were out of this world. Don't know if it was the oven they are using but it was the best pizza pizza slice I have ever had in Toronto. It was also very reasonably priced. As for the rest of the food I can not say. Took wife in with bleeding in the mouth. she has an mechanical valve and is on coumadin. Waited for 1 and 1/2 hours to be seen by a doctor or even nurse. After some complaints about the real emergency and threatening to leave, the nurse indicated that a doctor will see her shortly and after all she is not dying. They finally took blood works and it was at a high dangerous level. Instead of signing her in given bad advise and sent home and told to do a blood test in two days. That bad advise put her at a dangerous low level. This is the nearest hospital but in the future will call an ambulance and go to North York General. Rude staff, very lackadaisical doctors. Next time they ask for a donation will mail a cheque for $.01 read more

Multiple bad experiences with this hospital. Expect to get stuck there between 8 to 12 hours without getting help. Even it they seam not to be very busy, don't expect shorter waiting time. I believe a lot of the issues with this hospital stem from the fact that they are not only understaffed but also don't have enough beds. With the community around it growing as much as it has, Mackenzie Health it seems has failed to keep up with the expansion. My experience with this hospital came when my wife was brought in for a non stress test. A simple procedure that takes about 20 minutes to track our baby's movement, my wife's contractions and our baby's heart rate. Because they were short staffed on nurses and their OB on that day had to deal with numerous deliveries we were left waiting for 7 hours. A nurse finally came in to check on us maybe around hour 5. The day we were scheduled for our induction we were instructed to come at 8am. However upon arriving due to the lack of rooms available and not enough staff to accommodate we had to wait till 3pm before we were admitted. There are more experiences but I'm sure you get the gist of it. I found the quality of the nurses, physicians and other support staff to be great and found no issues with our care. However until Vaughn opens up their new hospital this place will continue to suffer from overworked staff trying to deal with a patient population their hospital just barely manages to accommodate. read more
