LONG wait times in the chemotherapy clinic even when you do have an appointment - which is understandable given that if the patient before you came in a little bit later than their own appointment or if someone needed extra care, have extra questions, all of this are factors into why you're early/on time for your appointment, but you're sitting here in the waiting room for FOREVER. Nurses are short staffed due to Bill 124, some of you may read this review and not care and just think "ahh that sucks for them", but it doesn't only take a toll on the nurses, but also on us and our love ones. With that said, the world is currently short staffed, be kind to the ones who showed up. Nurses, doctors, the volunteers, janitors, Resturant staff, gift shop staff and more are kind and resourceful here. I honestly think Mackenzie Health is amazing!! To all the staff members in the hospital - Thank you for risking your life EVERYDAY to try and better ours! Specially at a sensitive time like this.

"Vegan" option at the hospital, that's a cheesy pizza & chicken soup!!

I was admitted there once. I asked the nurse for vegan lunch. I had to clarify no dairy, no eggs, no meat, no fish... It's like I'm talking to an aunt and not to a healthcare professional. She checked all that on her system under "allergies" even though I'm not allergic to any of the above. Later I was served a cheesy pizza and a chicken soup! How can a hospital mess up such simple task so badly? even mom & pop restaurants know better than that! It's as though they don't care at all about their patients and that they are trying really hard to keep them sick. I can forgive the long waiting time and their horrible manners as I understand that they are understaffed. But this is so messed up that I had to leave the hospital against medical advice. I have always heard about how messed up the Canadian healthcare system is but I wasn't aware that it's that bad! Overall it was an eye opening experience for me. I realized that not only prevention is better than cure, but it's pretty much your only option here in Canada.

Overall, I have had positive experiences at Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) over the years. I…read morehave had medical appointments here. I have also had surgery, as has my mom. My dad has escaped a stay (knock on wood!) at this hospital. I did a couple of nutritional sessions with a dietician at this hospital over a decade ago. I got a referral by my doctor and it was two sessions that proved helpful. I enjoyed the field trip that we did to the Loblaws nearby and learning how to effectively read nutrition labels on products, along with in-classroom instruction. These sessions were helpful guiding me in losing sixty pounds and keeping most of it off to this day. I have also seen a rheumatologist and an ophthalmologist at MSH. The former was to rule out a finding from my bloodwork. The latter was similar, to rule out a detail found in an x-ray. I had surgery at this hospital over a decade ago here. The process to check in, change, get anesthesia administered, have surgery, go through physiotherapy, and gradually return to my normal self was thoughtfully planned. My surgeon was awesome, who scheduled a couple of post-surgery appointments to make sure that I was on the mend and got my staples removed. I was a patient for four days. The meals were okay. I obviously survived. I looked forward to them because I'm just that type of person. I chose the diabetic plan because I wanted less sugar. I also knew the food drop-off schedule like clockwork... haha! Staff were competent, from the nurses and doctors, to the radiologists and various interns. No complaints. My mom also had surgery here. Her stay was a bit longer, but she was made to feel comfortable. She also had a physiotherapy component. The wait times can be extremely long. Even with an appointment, I remember my appointment being at least two hours in length, with most of it being a wait. It's paid parking. You basically pay at a kiosk. If you are lucky to have someone drop you off and pick you up, you'll save a bit. For my last appointment post-surgery, my dad dropped me off and picked me up. It was great, but trying to let him know when my appointment was nearly done was tough to predict. As with most hospitals in Canada, if it's for an emergency, expect a wait. Triage at MSH is much better than at other hospitals in the GTA, such as Toronto Western and Birchmount (formerly Scarborough Grace). Many factors are at play, from how many doctors are on staff to see patients, to the severity of the health issue. I booked COVID-19 shots for my parents in a building next to the hospital during the height of the pandemic. My parents were pleased with how things went. My dad didn't complain, so things went smoothly and they got their shots together. It's a decent hospital. I am thankful for the care that my mom and I have had. (45)

There are a lot of parking lots but most of them require you to pay hourly or you can purchase the daily/weekly pass. There is a Tim Hortons inside - very convenient. The doctors and nurses there were great and very tentative. They provided a lot of support and encouragement.

I did not have my updated health card on me at the time. I was charged $75.00 dollars to see a doctor. I paid with the understanding that I would be reimbursed once I supplied them a renewed Health card. I supplied an updated card a week later. I was then told that OHIP could take up to 3 months to reimburse them and that their head office in Alberta would then send me a cheque asap upon their receipt. I have called several times for reimbursement. I have spoken to numerous people at both their Richmond Hill and Newmarket offices. I have told my story repeatedly and spent hours on the phone trying to get resolve. I have been told that head office did receive repayment from OHIP, in addition to being promised that someone will call me back. They refused to give me a manager's name or any contact information on who is responsible for reimbursement at their head office. Today I spoke with someone again. Once again, the Richmond Hill manager was not in and they would do their best to have someone call me back. To date...over 7 months later... I have not received any reimbursement. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
