Stopped in for a quick drink and bite to eat while strolling around the area, and now I'm obsessed! The Macondray has wonderful ambience, even during Covid times. The outdoor dining and indoor dining were equally as enticing. The interior is meticulously decorated and has a beautiful bar. I ordered the spicy margarita, and it was perfect! Not overly spicy, and the perfect blend of flavors. We also got fries, which I 100% recommend. They have a unique Malt Vinegar powder that gives a nice flavor. They were crispy and golden, the perfect snack to go with your cocktail. This bar is perfect for a happy hour or a casual evening out. I've been wanting to try Macondray out for a little bit. The past few times I have walked past it, it has been packed. I luckily was able to get a spot for myself before the dinner rush! So glad I finally was able to try out this new cocktail bar. Each table outside is spaced efficiently and comes with hand sanitizer for you to use. Since there was no wait, I had my pick at whichever table I would like. Additionally, they do wipe down the tables after each customer. Macondray makes for the perfect happy hour spot or wind-down spot after having dinner. They specialize in numerous cocktails and they have wine and beer. In terms of actual food, there options are limited but they have more than most bars do! I ended up ordering a bourbon drink that had "Spooky" in the name. Clearly Halloween themed, which I appreciated. The drink came with the white of an egg mixed in. This drink was phenomenal! I seriously would come back for this drink alone. For food, I went with the Maine Lobster Roll. This came with home-made potato chips. The roll was stuffed with delicious lobster. Each bite was like heaven. I couldn't get enough of it. We sat in the window. It was thankfully peaceful and quiet! The atmosphere was relaxing. Nice space. Lovely server. The Sauvignon Blanc was a nice one. Our shared bites were great: a delicious vegetarian moussaka and a composed salad of peppers, olives, tomatoes, slivered red onion and cucumber. Perfectly balanced dressing. The peppers were Anaheim peppers and extremely hot. I love spicy, but these were raw and much hotter than I can even tolerate. I told our server that they were surprisingly hot, and in a fun way. Today I brought a friend who had never been and he ordered a beer that wasn't on the menu from a server who seemed to be new. She wore large framed glasses and wasn't very friendly. She essentially refused to serve my group after getting angry with my friend for asking for a blue moon, which Macondray does not have. It was a honest mistake, but the server ignored us to the point where I had to ask the cool busser/bar back to close us out so we could go somewhere else. read more

Completely ridiculous; I wasn't sure if I had accidentally ordered a slider, but feel free to peruse the photos here on Yelp. The grilled onions were great, and the pickles were delicious, but it was $13.75 for one slider. I'm still baffled. The service was great, the staff was super friendly and helpful. And the ambiance is chill. They have TVs if you want to watch sports, an outdoor area if you want to enjoy sunshine on a nice day, and seating in the back that's good for groups. Polk street trendy bar alert! And DAMN it's about time the north end of Polk got a fun, clean, vibey bar. Macondray replaces the old Bullit (rip to my guest bartending fundraising days) and has been completely gutted and revamped. Think Palm House meets Del Mar meets Dorian - all the Marina vibes. The new look is fresh - lots of greenery and plants - and packs a big punch in terms of vibes. When I stopped in on a Wednesday evening, this place was packed full. Every table was full, every server running around to customers, and lots of alcohol being poured. We only wanted drinks - ended up ordering the hard seltzer (w/ basil, blood orange, and grapefruit - basically a fancy white claw), a glass of Sauvignon blanc (basic bitch over here), and a craft whiskey cocktail (can't remember the name tbh). Everyone enjoyed their libations and it seemed everyone else in the restaurant was sipping the kool aid as well. By far MY FAVORITE part about this bar is the music they play. It's subtle in the background but I was grooving on it the entire time I was there. Props to the behind the scenes dj because I am all about the feels you are putting down! This bar is going to stay busy as polk street needed this type of establishment. All the Russian hill 20 somethings will be flocking here for cocktails. We went to Macondray for the first time on a Saturday for a late lunch around 3pm. Overall, based on our experience here, we likely won't return or recommend to others. Pros: - Great decor with lots of plants - Seated quickly Cons: - Paper menus were dirty with stains and food crumbs - Service was mixed. Similar to other reviews, we had 3 servers. Our first one just left their shift and we weren't informed of another server as we waited 15 min for someone to greet and take our order. During the meal, we ordered an extra side of ketchup that was forgotten. Also, our bill needed to be corrected as we were overcharged for an item. - The peach salad had thick chunks of fresh peaches, whole raisins, and pistachios with minimal dressing. Could've been much more enjoyable had all the components been thoughtfully chopped and put together. - The salty/malt vinegar fries felt like a frozen pack and unfortunately the seasoning wasn't even. - Lobster roll was small for the price in our opinion - Small bug was found in peach salad.* *The restaurant offered a fresh one for free to remedy the issue - which was appreciated - and didn't charge us. read more

I will start with the atmosphere, if anyone has been in this location before it was macondray (when it was bullit) they will be blown away by the change. A dim lit intimate atmosphere, mellow upbeat music. It's the perfect place for a date night, or small meetup for drinks with friends. Our server was helpful when I asked for advice on the menu, able to explain the drink/ food that I had questions about, as well as steer me in the direction of exactly what I was looking for. The food and drinks came out in a timely fashion. Overall the server was great! Now for the best part; the food. WOW! I grew up on the east coast so Maine lobster was an easy way to peek my interest. I've been coming here since moving to SF back in August. Bootsy is one of the best bartenders in the city both in quality of drinks and the conversations he has (when it's not super busy). The owners put their money where their mouth is and man the door, run drinks out, make drinks, bar back, you name it. Food is exceptional (absolutely recommend the oysters if available, burger and steamed mussels). Their funky drink menu rotates, but manages to always land. If you're into the classics, they make a mean Manhattan and Gin Martini. The aesthetic is great for a first date, catching up with a friend or solo drinks after work. Both were delicious and beautiful to look at. We also had a half dozen Drakes oysters that were really fresh and served with a traditional mignonette. I think it could have been earlier if the restaurant does what others have done during COVID: 90 minute time limit. There were people there clearly an hour in and still there when we left 90 minutes later. Glad they were having fun though! Besides that, the food was great (I had adult chicken trendies!), and I had The Paisley as my cocktail. It's basically a scotch forward drink that tells you immediately it is a scotch forward drink.
