They also had cherry pie samples and I mean who am I to pass on that even if it's 830 am. Both were very good. After my meeting one of my colleagues wanted to go grab a coffee and lunch so we went back. When he tried to order another coffee the staff member remembered him and asked wasn't he just here this am? He laughed and said yes and she said oh you get a free refill you don't need to pay for another. He tried to decline since he didn't have his cup anymore AND it had been a few hours but she insisted. I would've gotten her name but she was already embarrassed when I went to thank her and tell her how amazing that was. We ended up tipping them instead. Went in here when it was not busy on a Sunday late morning. Staff seemed very blasé about their job. I asked about sandwiches and they said they had limited availability on what meat could be added so I went with bacon and she made me a terrible tasting sandwich. It was just awful. Greasy, messy, wilted greens. And not sure how, but something in it was sweet?? It was so gross. Really disappointed. Also the coffee that I ordered I asked for light syrup added to my drink and they made it SO SWEET. They seemed confused when I asked for a Mezzo, which is not a crazy ask for a coffee shop. I normally wouldn't ask, but it was undrinkable, so requested they remake it. Second version was different and had no sugar at all, but still didn't taste good. The staff seemed really unengaged, like they hate working there. Really disappointed by this experience. Who knew flying out from SFO at 6 am would be so chaotic and crowded? Clearly, I didn't which is why I ran a four minute mile getting from terminal 2 to terminal 1 (thanks to Uber dropped me off at the wrong spot), back to terminal 2 (because the security line was shorter and I was late), then once again back to terminal 1 (because that's where my gate was located of course). So I find myself in Seattle at 9-ish in the morning, slightly groggy, and definitely in need of breakfast. As a long time supporter of Macrina's, I've eaten at the Belltown and Roosevelt locations with great service. I came in today to this location and the staff appeared emotionless, robotic, and not enthused. This is my most frequented Macrina location. Since it's near work, I'm often picking up food for lunch meetings. I will call ahead to put my order in and pick up at the designated time. Allllll the pastries and baked goods are delicious, oh boy. I got some blueberry scones to take home and they were scrumptious (we added some creme fresh and blueberries) with coffee for breakfast. The chicken pot pie was amazing. My husband took one bit to taste it but ended up eating the whole thing. The sandwiches were made fresh and nicely toasted. I loved this place. The interior was adorable, and that was just the start. I ordered an iced vanilla latte to be on the safe side, and threw in a raspberry-rhubarb upside down cake. Turns out they make their own vanilla sugar. The latte was really good! I then tried my sister-in-law's mocha and it was even better! The upside down cake was pretty good, but the real showstopper pastry was the pecan roll my husband ordered. Whew! It was crunchy, soft, sweet, but not too sweet. It was perfect. I ordered the Carne sandwich (turkey, bacon & avo) on a roll & chicken and rice soup. The soup was good albeit bland. Could use some seasoning. The sandwich was probably the biggest let down. The the bread was really good but they put 1 sad little slice of turkey, a very small amount of avo. It's more of a bread sandwich than anything else. I recommend adding 1-2 more slices of turkey if you want to make this a great sandwich. People were friendly and helpful. All-in-all, I give a 3 out of 5 mostly for the pastries. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside and it sits along a pretty desolate stretch of 1st Ave in SODO. We were headed to Costco one morning and stopped in for a quick bite. The store was quite empty and extremely cold. Like, it felt like AC was on full blast in the middle of winter cold. My husband had a blueberry scone and I had a morning bun. I wanted to say I Loved this Whisper Cake and give it 5 Stars. Unfortunately i had higher expectations than what this delivered. This cake was extremely Dry, bite after bite I tried to find what I had before and it wasn't good. First impression was it was Perfection then cutting into it the top started to sink in making it hard to put it on serving plates. The layers didn't really blend in with the blandness and overly dryness of the actual cake layers. Sadly this wasn't a personal cake for just me this was for My Parents 50th Wedding Anniversary . This cake was the closest of what they had when they first got married.
