Table sauce at Mac's Bar-B-Q, Brady TX
    Bruce K.

It's lunch time here in (where am I?) and Yelp brought me to Mac's for lunch. Arriving after the lunch rush at 1:30, my waitress was pleasant and welcoming. I decided on the Taco Tuesday lunch special with a side of fried okra. Three tacos appeared and underneath all those toppings was a pile of brisket in one and a pile of pulled pork in the other two. The pork was tastier, but that's okay. Great portion, inexpensive meal, neat unpretentious place that's pretty much in the very middle of the Lone Star State. I'm glad I stopped in. It was a good meal. [Review 17405 overall - 420 in Texas - 923 of 2022.]

Brisket and ribs. Not overpowering bbq. I Actually expected a little more punch. Could almost be confused with oven baked.

Just so so bbq. No real bbq flavor. Thought it might be oven baked. Very busy this Sunday afternoon.

    The little greeter!

Food was very good. Great brisket, smoked turkey, and German style sausage. Best coleslaw I've had in a long time! Very rustic inside like a bbq joint should be. I like the little guy that greets you when you arrive.

Very good ribs and LOVED the green chili mac & cheese.

Arrived for an early lunch and was seated pretty quickly. Already many of the seats in the two seating areas were taken. Make sure you park behind the restaurant because there's very little up front. Was served by one of the best waitresses I've seen in a long time. She was hustling and handled the entire place herself! And she did very well. Checked in at the right times, nailed the order, very friendly and helpful. Well done there! I had the 1/2 pound plate which was basically two meats. I had the ribs that I liked a LOT. It was a great rub on it. The brisket was good but no where close to the quality of the ribs. For sides I had the coleslaw. It was the minced kind. It looked and tasted like KFC which means I liked it a lot. You may want a more textured approach, but I liked it. The best if the meal was the green chili Mac & cheese. This is definitely an adult version. Monit wasn't hugely spicy. It was that the cheese was light and not a yellow mass swamping it out like 8 year olds enjoy. Very good job with this!! Definitely a place to try it to become a regular spot.

This is the moist brisket. Beans are still crunchy. Don't nobody want dry brisket and beans that ain't done. Here's an idea.... Try it before you serve it.

    The sign caught my eye!

I'm not going to overly critique the brisket because I failed to ask for lean. I love Texas barbecue so I enjoyed my meal, but I had to trim a lot to get what I prefer. The smoked turkey breast was really good and flavorful. The pinto beans were straightforward and perfectly cooked. I took it to go and the service was friendly and fast.

Vending machine at hotel...edible dinner items

Positives, first thing to be safe! 1., 5 stars great, friendly, caring, waitress... she was great above par for sure, best we had in the 3 days. 2 cold Beer and mixed drinks. 3 Fried okra that was best item on menu truly. DOWN side 1Potato salad, when you are warned it's different, just listen and don't try something new to be nice, when you from out of town! Looked like a Sherbet Ice cream, taste like mashed potato, onions, and salt 2 this is a BBQ in the heart of Texas we must had caught them on the wrong day.... like there worst day ever... kinda day, CLEARLY....But this place had other People that ate all there calories or most of them. As I will comment from personal taste only...2nd worst bbq? in Texas. (To be clear hands down the worst I, or my group, have ever had, was at Queens BBQ in Galveston, Texas. We order $182 worth of BBQ for the group it was all bad, so we walked out and went to CICI's buffet. Exactly! it is what you were thinking ... how could Texas mess up BBQ! 3 worst sausage I have ever had at a restaurant...or homemade, so dry I couldn't chew it to consume it. Dry! I would have been much happier if it was a slim Jim or a any grocery store hot dog. 4 brisket? my lord, seriously! 2 people had this to confirm. Well, mine looked very opaque color, cold or not warm at all. Taste lacking... that's being very nice. 5 Chipped BBQ, I would say taste like to me syrup, red kool aid, and mixed meats. Again this is how I fill the taste, and the other people at the table did as well. Maybe this is big in this town flavor profile Everyone to be clear we were exhausted from hunting and stocking deer all day. so we could have ate close to anything edible. So we tried to eat what we could, but we left more then there then we ate basically. Hungry still of course! We all agreed someone must have intentionally tried to make food like this as a possible Sabotage??? That could explain this blunder of s as dinner for us. Neutral items Steak Banana pudding Appetizer sampler Ice water White bread . We could have got these neutral items at any 2-3 star place like Golden Corral. They would put a WHOPPIN on this place and I don't care for Golden Corral, other example I would have traded for Taco Bell and paid triple for it. We literary did not want to ask for or order something... we going to have a couple more drinks a piece for the group but food issue were so different as so many items were not fully consumable....so we skipped a few more rounds Them I hit the vending machine at the hotel lobby to finish dinner off...rough dinner night for sure Epic Hunting trip and a restaurant to remember.... I'm using it for Meme until or if it is ever replace by another restaurant!

Really great mesquite smoked BBQ. I want to try the steak special on a Friday or Saturday. Also want to try the tacos one day. This time I got the 2 meat plate as last time the 3 meat was too much food. Turkey and ribs are delicious. I liked the cole slaw because it didn't have too much Mayo. Last time I tried the delicious Mac n cheese and the jalapeño cheese sausage. Both were great. Lot of cheese in the sausage. Also: I suggest the appetizer sampler with/ onion rings, bottle caps (sliced fried jalapeños), and fried pickles. Can't wait to go back!

Chicken Strips, Burgers and Pizza. Our party of three (3rd person differed, but 2 are the same) went for lunch and dinner on two occasions. Not a hint of New Orleans, so beware. The food we ordered, pizza and chicken strips (all chose the same dish on the two occasions) were available for considerably less in town and better quality and value for the money...Sonic chicken strips or those from Chicken Express are much better. The pizza tasted meh and frankly seemed to be inferior frozen pizza. Do not recommend food. We all had either tea or soft drinks, not impressive but again overpriced. The worst thing was the incredibly bad acoustics and blaring piped-in music (we went when there was no live music. The floor appears to be Saltillo Tile, and whenever a chair moved, imagine the sound multiplied many times over in a fairly small room with soaring ceilings and no deadening at all. A reasonable volume might have been bearable; we spent the entire time shouting at each other just to be heard and STILL not being able to hear. When your eardrums physically hurt after dining out in the daytime, there's an issue. The waitstaff were friendly and fairly efficient, and the building is extremely historic and beautiful. I was surprised to learn from previous reviews there was gambling on each end of the building; no one mentioned it and I assumed I missed that in the ads. I don't have a problem with it, but it does appear that might have added to the noise. We were sort of alarmed after seeing the proximity of the stage to our table and experiencing the over-worked sound system. I can only imagine. There was no issue with parking the times we were there, even though both gaming rooms were visibly busy. The lunch visit was full; supper a bit less crowded. I'm relieved our party was always adult and family/close friends. Honestly, the restaurant was, in our highly disappointed opinion, not worth returning for a second visit, and we won't be back. How sad.

The menu is pretty small with appetizers and burgers and a few other choices. We had some fried okra and each had the Rio Grande Burger with fries. Decra tasted delicious and appeared to be homemade. The burgers were huge and very tasty. I'd love to come here some live music here and try their cocktails (which are very reasonably priced).

Silver Spur is FANTASTIC! I visited on a whim when driving through Menard (most places were closed…read morebecause it was Easter but they were open) and had the best experience... service was great, food was delicious, portions were huge, and price was reasonable. FAST FACTS: * Parking - some spots right out front * Closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday * Check their Facebook page for events, specials, and more PRICING - The total was $50.65 after tax ($4.52) but before tip for an unsweetened tea ($2.79), chips and queso ($9.19), grilled chicken sandwich ($12.19), chicken fried steak ($19.49), and mint chocolate chip ice cream cake ($6.99). I think the pricing is VERY reasonable for the food quality and portion size. CHIPS AND QUESO (8/10) - Fantastic appetizer for the table to share for cheap! You get a mound of thick tortilla chips (or pork rinds), a skillet of green hatch queso topped with some fresh pico, and a smaller side of a thick salsa. I'd order this again! GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH (9/10) - Massive sandwich with a huge pile of shoestring fries (or tots) on the side. The bun is fluffy and nicely toasted, the grilled chicken breast is seasoned well, and you get fresh spring mix, tomato, pickles, and onion piled on top with honey mustard. I'd order this again! CHICKEN FRIED STEAK (10/10) - One of the best chicken fried steaks we've had! It's a huge portion of steak (8 oz) topped with peppered gravy, two sides of your choice, and a roll... everything was seasoned well, fresh, and delicious! I'd order this again! MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM CAKE (9/10) - The desserts vary but this ice cream cake was fantastic! The level of mint was perfect and it was a good size piece to share at the end of an already very filling meal. I'd order this again! Honestly, there was nothing I didn't enjoy at Silver Spur! Obviously I'm not a local (you can tell it's the type of place where everyone in town hangs out) and just happened to stumble across it while traveling through but I will 100% stop by again when I'm in the area! Absolutely fantastic and filling meal for a very affordable price with those hometown Texas vibes that are always appreciated! Special shoutout to our server, Dana, who took great care of us from start to finish!
