Driving through enroute to New Mexico, stopped here, what a great find. There were 3 of us and had a bbq sandwich with side and drink. Great pricing, wonderful food. The bread in the brisket sandwich is one of those sweet tasting giving it an added flavor. They suggeted a Mac & Cheese side which was out of the ordinary, if you like jalapeno flavored, but not too spicy, select this. Their fries are real potatoes, not just a frozen type. I am telling you everything was YUM!!! The place is very clean and their staff is watching carefully to ensure everything is picked up after. The cook, or Chef, or owner came out to meet with us and verified everything was good and see if we needed anything else. In speaking to the owner, we suggested a selection of cobblers. He did say they have some bread pudding that is real good, but we were already stuffed. Popped in while driving through Brady en route to Dripping Springs. My husband and I love trying local restaurants when we travel, and we weren't disappointed that we stopped here. We ordered onion rings to start and chicken fried steak (me) & a pulled pork sandwich (husband) for our mains. Loves those onion rings. I like big chunky onions where you can actually taste the onions, and these delivered. The batter was super delicious and didn't leave a greasy residue in my mouth like some onion rings do. The chicken fried steak was perfect, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his pulled pork. I had green chili mac and fried okra for my sides, and my husband had the cole slaw. The only thing that we'd not get again is the cole slaw. It was not a mayonnaise based slaw, and the cabbage was strangely squishy. And last but not least, service was fantastic. They were super busy for three in the afternoon on a Tuesday, but everyone was super friendly and prompt. If we're ever going back through Brady, we'll definitely stop in again. read more

I ordered the three meat plate with brisket, jalapeño sausage, turkey. the brisket was so tough, stringy and greasy and lots of fat, turkey was fine as well as the sausage. paid $22.18 and it was not as good as I expected. won't be going back and I live in Brady. very disappointing, I used to eat at the original Mac's and what is served now can't hold a candle to original. The brisket was dry and tasteless, it looked as if it had been baked. The BBQ sauce was watery and the coleslaw had no flavor. I will say though that the onion rings were amazing. But the homemade ranch that came with the onion rings gave me food poisoning. I would not recommend. read more

Gotta say, for a pit stop on the long stretch between Midland and Austin, this place is pretty great to land at. Brisket passed the central Texas bbq test - no sauce needed... Today was not a good day at Mac's & no one seemed to care. We ordered the turkey & dressing, the Sunday special, we change our normal route between San Antonio & home if we are traveling on Sunday just to come here for the turkey & dressing. Today I wish we had just gone our normal route & eaten at Cooper's in Junction. First of all when we ordered they said it would be a 30 minute wait on the dressing so, at the waitress's suggestion we substituted mashed potatoes, well it already comes with mashed potatoes so we ended up with double mash, something neither of us usually eat a lot of. When our food came out there was no gravy on the potatoes so we had to ask for that. We didn't get the cranberry sauce, the green beans had no flavor & the only flavor in the gravy was salt & I mean a lot of salt. The iced tea had very little ice & when it was refilled the waitress didn't add any so there ended up being no ice at all. When I was checking out I told the cashier about our problems with the meal & she really didn't seem to care. Next time we are traveling & my husband asks if I want to change our rout to go to Mac's my answer will be no. If this was the first time I had ever eaten here I would not be back ever. read more

Barbecue sauce was awesome barbecue and meats that I had were smoked good but the only one bad thing I did not like about my meal and this is not to dish the restaurant this is to help them but y'all need to cut your barbecue a lot thicker instead of paper thin slices I received otherwise meats excellent I just need more meat I had the two meat with barbecue and turkey but again the meat was smoked awesomely just the cuts need to be thicker read more

Having lived in Brady you could not go without Mac's BBQ, one of the best barbeque places I have ever eaten. Located in the 'Heart of Texas,' you'll find this little family owned restaurant serving up some of the best chopped beef around. The chopped beef bun is 'massive,' I have yet to find a place in Austin that serves up such a delicious mouth-watering meal. I can't comment much on the other menu items as I'm not a big ole bbq fan, but they do offer items aside from barbeque! It's fairly inexpensive, they offer take-out and I have always received upstanding customer service from the staff. Great stop at Mac's after an out of town basketball game. We had a couple burgers and a sliced brisket sandwich. The burgers were great. Large and juicy, on homemade buns that were excellent. The brisket slices were too think in my opinion which made it tougher to bite through, but the flavor and portions were on point. Whatever you do, upgrade your side to their onion rings, or order them as an appetizer...they're amazing! All in all, 6 of us ate for $45 (1 kid's meal) and were very satisfied. read more

Great BBQ place to eat - we were traveling and stopped here for a cool place to eat some good food . They were busy which is always a good sign. The staff was all friendly , busy working and quick to help us . Our food came out quickly ( but not so quick that it was cooked in the microwave) it was hot and good . I liked this one. The meats are Bbq'd over a wood fire for all to see. The first time here I had a burger which was larger than I expected but hey, this is TX right? The next visit I had a meal that had 3 different kinds of meat. It had brisket,sausage and chicken. Hoy! Plus, it came with potato choice, cole slaw, yes, and bread. How could any human every eat that much? It covered a turkey platter! Awesome! Here's the amazing part. $13.00 for the meal! Heard that Mac's reopened and was excited to go try. Was a little on the disappointed side. BBQ sauce is too runny. Meat was on the dry side. The proportions of the ribs were small. Yum!!! Our table all got baked potatoes with different kind of meats. The smoked turkey was amazing! The sausage and bbq beef were also great. the green chili Mac and cheese was yummy and my daughter liked her chicken tenders, handcut fries and gravy. The "plates" are sheet pans lined with paper and another table ordered these giant onion rings. it looked like a mountain on that sheet pan. Located a few blocks south of the Brady downtown, this seems to be a popular stop. I ordered the 2-meat ($9) platter of smoked chicken (out of turkey) and sausage. The sausage was average but the chicken was very good on favor and moistness. I substituted cole slaw for the potato salad and both the slaw and beans were winners. We were here in Brady for the night and BBQ sounds good always. We both ordered the 1/2 lb plate. I had brisket and sausage with beans and green chile Mac and cheese. We ordered at the counter and I have a problem with leaving a tip before I can evaluate the kind of service. There is a glass tip jar at the register or you can opt to leave it on a credit card at time of order. The food came and my meats were just barely warm. The one thing that saves this, the food was excellent. The brisket was smoky and not too fatty. The sausage had the right amount of spice. They offer two different sauces, one traditional and one vinegar based. Both excellent. The only dish I disliked was the green chile Mac. It was made with a white cheese and it was very bland. Stopped in on the way to Austin. Fast service, decent food. The meats themselves were a little plain without sauce (usually my first test for bbq.) The sauce is ok. A little runny in my opinion. Middle of the road in spiciness. The sweet and spicy sauce was sweet at first and then a little spicy at the end. I wouldn't say no to Mac's but I also wouldn't make it a "must stop" break during my next trip to Austin. read more

Disappointing. We were just passing through Brady, TX and noticed Mac's. Lots of people and cars, so we thought it must be pretty good...it wasn't. Everything was just bland. I've never been to bbq place in TX that absolutely required you to add sauce to the meat, but the meat here had no flavor. Beans were really bland too and the green chili Mac didn't have any green chili. At least the brisket was tender, the staff was friendly, and the service was quick. read more

I love this place so much I time my travels so I can eat here for lunch. The barbecue sandwich is my favorite, and I love that they offer homemade french fries. The only issue I would complain about is that they don't have enough waitstaff. I've been there twice in the last few months, and both times it takes a while to get my order in. Your basic barbecue, burgers, etc. joint. The staff is kind and the food was good. I had the 1/2 pound classic and my wife had the catfish with fried okra. The fries I had were excellent. Wasn't crazy about the tartar sauce that went with my wife's catfish, but the catfish itself was very good. The fried okra was excellent. Overall, a good place. Probably the worst BBQ ever! Full of grease and burnt on the outside...got it to go so we didn't know until we got home. Beans tasted old and the sausage was awful. I could buy better sausage at HEB. When I called and let them know how bad it was all I heard was excuses...no apology at all. So in other words....bad BBQ and bad service! read more
