It's been a few years since we ate here so we thought we'd give it another shot, hoping the food and service improved. Nope. Last night (August 28) was our last night. The place was dead, so we were seated quickly. Initially the waitress was prompt but after our drinks it took forever for her to return and take our order. So much so we had to ask not one but TWO servers if she was available. The hush puppies were excellent. So much so we wanted more (and they were supposed to be unlimited)! But the server never really came back before our food was served so we could get more... The food was incredibly... 'meh'... Both kids had burgers that were cool in the center and the toppings were underwhelming. My daughter had bacon on hers and it was overcooked. I had the burra tacos. They were also cool to the touch. Barely warm. The flavor was rather bland and the dipping sauce had no flavor. I ordered two and could barely stomach the first one. Once the waitress knew we wanted the check she was super responsive! But she blew us off for so much of the time that we all felt a 10% was truly a gift. I typically tip 20%, but it's hard to tip someone who expects the tip and isn't willing to put the effort in. Honestly it seemed that no one really cared. The cook did t care about the quality of food. The servers were more concerned about things other than the tables or the bar area. So if they don't care, what will the end result be? The staff were friendly and ambiance was sports bar - which I enjoy. The food came out quick and there's free refills on hush puppies. My wife had the pulled pork and unfortunately it was pretty dry. Well, not gluten-free friendly. After a long conversation where the server ( bless her heart, she was doing the best she could with what God gave her) told me all the gluten- free items that they did not have from the GF menu. Maybe it's time to update it?? I settled on a simple turkey plate and salad. The turkey shows up with bread on top. I mention that this is a problem and she replied " glad you didn't eat the bread...". I asked her to think on that logic bomb for a moment, and she just smiled and walked away. Bless her heart. Honestly this used to be one of my favorite places, went last night for dinner and it was horrible. Our server was great and very friendly but both meals were cold, and really cold. It was almost as if it was old and just sitting there? Only took about 10 minutes to come out so it shouldn't have been cold unless it was old. Every single item we got was cold. My parents are bikers so I love the motorcycle parking spots, lots of TVs, pool, darts, and a cute bar. Our food was seriously so so amazing. We had the fried egg rolls, brisket, and a burger. Their mocktails are tasty too. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because our waitress wasn't the friendliest. We were in the area running a few errands, and decided to stop for lunch and a beer. Very similar to the Steele Creek & South Blvd locations with a similar decor scheme, but this location has a couple of pool tables and dart boards, so we shot a couple of games of pool while we waited for the food The server was friendly and attentive, and came around often to see if we needed anything. The menu is the same as the other Mac's locations; standard BBQ fare, and a wide variety of sides. We got some wings and sides. My daughter said that the sweet potato fries were good, and I think they make the best collard greens around. I come here regularly since my husband plays in dart league here. The food is great. I've yet to have something I was unhappy with. There seems to be a good level of pride in the food. Things I've tried and liked: deviled eggs, wings, smoked quarter chicken, smokehouse club, chicken and dumplings, and even the Ceasar salad is good (comes with smashed hush puppies as croutons!). The service is a little hit or miss. There are a couple of them are excellent (shout out to Sophia for being our favorite so far, and blonde dude as 2nd), but several are just "meh". The food was amazing! We came here last night after a pretty unsuccessful fishing trip, the drive was about an hour away, but I was craving bbq, and thankfully I stuck with it! We had the half rack ribs (side of mac and cheese & Sweet fries) and the mac bowl. When they came to the table, my first thoughts was immediately; "Dang! These ribs look better than anything I've had yet!" And I was right! The tenderness and bbq flavor was the ribs were amazing! The mac and cheese and sweet fries were also really good as well! Macs Speed Shop in Cornelius is by far the best restaurant along I-77, I make sure to stop in whenever I get a chance. If you're looking for BBQ, wings, burgers, or beer this is THE place to go. My server, Samantha, was attentive and welcoming. Her enthusiastic banter truly made the dining experience one I'm excited to come back to. I can't forget to mention that the GM, Mr. Bam, would check in with the tables to make sure everything was in order. Personally, I absolutely love a manager that takes the extra step and ensures the guests have everything they need. There's arcade games, pool tables, dart boards, connect 4 for the kids, and TVs for all the football you could want. There's outside seating, fire pits, and plenty of parking. Samantha told me about how I could help the community by simply ordering hushpuppies. Apparently all proceeds go to local youth organizations. So of course I started with the hushpuppies, amazing. Then I had the beef rib with BBQ beans and sweet potato fries. I would say my mouth dropped at the size of this bad mamma jamma but the first bite is what really did it for me. Came by here one late afternoon while visiting NC. I was excited to try it since I have seen this place featured on TV shows as amazing BBQ. The place was pretty empty other than a handful of people at the bar and yet the hostess was rude about us being a larger party (10) which I was confused about since again, the place was dead. They told us that we could either sit outside in the heat at combines tables or sit inside at separate tables. We decided on separate inside tables just to then be told they would not even be next to each other which was baffling since there were plenty of tables available. They told us we could sit on the high top tables in the bar area which were at least next to each other and that is what we ended up doing even though we had young children and a disabled person in our party. Going back and forth with the hostess with seating alone took about 15 minutes which was frustrating and it must have just been her opinion and not something she discussed with management or the servers because after we decided on the high top tables, her and the server pushed the tables together which she said was not an option in the first place. After we got seated we decided on some appetizers and drinks. The bar area was fun with decor and they had many screens to watch the football games on. My favorite team was not on any of them but the bar tender and a man at the bar saw me watching on my phone and they turned one of the screens on to that game which I thought was very nice of them. I tried the fried pickles and they were pretty good. Nothing super special but they were tasty. I ordered the BBQ brisket sandwich and was very disappointed. It was a very small portion of meat for the price (I honestly thought maybe it was a kids meal on accident) and it came on a hamburger bun and was already completely soggy to the point of being mush by the time it got to me. There was no way I could eat it like a sandwich so had to use a fork. The texture was so bad I just avoided the bottom bun at all costs. I tried the sauces on the table and they were all very watery so it made sense that the bun could not handle it but guessing if they toast the buns or use a different bread, that issue could be solved. I opted to avoid using more sauce since it was not my favorite. The meat was dry and overcooked and was a lot of fat considering BBQ chopped brisket usually is a leaner dish. The server acted annoyed the whole time we were there. My daughters order was wrong and she acted like we ordered it wrong. My daughter is on the spectrum and will not eat mac and cheese so I have never nor would ever order her that over tots or fries so I guarantee I was not the one in the wrong. I even offered to just order a side of tots and pay for them to just solve the issue but the server just did not say a word and turned around so we were unsure if we would get them or not (we did). We started out ordering the chicken nachos, but we ended up receiving the pork nachos, which honestly were really good, so it wasn't a big deal at all. Next, I ordered the philly cheese steak wrap with mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was delicious! But the wrap was honestly really soggy from the juice in the meat that i had to eat it with a fork. It was still good but honestly wouldn't recommend it. My bf got the brisket platter with cheese grits and mac and cheese and he said it was great. The pork was tender and juicy, the might be brining it, it's slightly sweet without a deep smoke flavor. The collard greens also had the slightly sweet flavor but with the hint of pork or bacon. It was our first time at Mac's. We were in the mood for barbecue and decided to try it based on a recommendation. It is very casual, bar-style atmosphere with picnic table outside seating. It was a little too hot and sunny for outside, so we asked to be moved inside after being at outside table only for a few minutes. The server was very obliging and told us to find a booth we were comfortable in. That was a good start. We ordered a few different entrees and everything looked good. Half rack of ribs, brisket sandwiches and a brisket wrap were all delivered to our table. I did think my side, the cucumber and tomato salad was a little lackluster. It had marinated cubed cucumber, but only 1 halved grape tomato in the bowl. That was a little disappointing. Sandwich was tasty; they have a few different barbecue sauces you can add to your food. I tried the western NC sauce which was very good. Sweet and unsweetened tea was plentiful and the server, Lily, was extremely attentive without being overbearing. I think it is important to check in with your table for anything needed and she did just that. We visited Mack's over 10 years ago and loved it, came back through and ordered a plater, 2 meats :brisket and jalapeño cheese sausage 4 sides : 3 Mac cheese+ coleslaw The sausage was the best part. The briskets was not great and the sides were horrible. First the size of the sides were barely enough for a child, secondly it was dry, seem to have sat out all day and was tasteless. The other slides were just small and not appetizing at all. Thank goodness we ordered deserts, because our teens were still starving. The desert was okay. But only okay. Another trip to this fab BBQ spot. Difference was that we started with the Sidecars. Chili, Brunswick Stew, collard greens and cheesy grits. Just wowee. A generous sampling of the sides. The stew was the one item that didn't excite me but it was tasty. Of course we took advantage of the happy hour special tacos again and my guy could not pass up the smoked wings. This place rocks. Drinks, food, customers, ambiance is fabulous. Casual and friendly atmosphere. Brandon once again made our visit. It's rare that a visitor is welcomed as a regular at places. But it's like that here. Visited Mac's Friday night. It is a hopping place. I remember going several years ago when doing some real estate classes across the street. And I remember it being much better. I'm not crazy about the high stools and high top tables, so we opted to wait for a booth. The waitress who sat us was surly and literally slapped the menus down on our table and walked away without a word. Thankfully she was not our waitress for the evening. Our waitress was fabulous. The food took a minute to come out, but was understandable for a busy night. They brought us out some hushpuppies to tide us over and those were so good! They serve it with some creamy sauce (is it butter? ) that is sweet and wonderful! Our sandwiches came and we were all fairly happy. I had the Cuban and it was very flavorful. My daughter had the chicken sandwich which was good, but she said was very salty. My son had the Porktacular sandwich which he enjoyed, but his side of mac 'n' cheese was very disappointing and remained mostly untouched. I had baked beans for my side and they were delicious. Honestly, that kind of restaurant with a big bar, loud music and rough edges is not my speed. If you like that kind of thing, you'll love Mac's.
