We have been coming to Mc Tavish Jewelers for 35 years. The first time my wife wanted to re-style and join together her engagement ring and wedding ring into a new single setting. It was a beautiful new ring that she wore until she passed away recently. If the main diamond would start to come loose Harry would tighten it up at no charge. Over the years we purchased a women's and men's watch from McTavish and replaced batteries and watch bands on other watches over the years. We also had several watches repaired. I did some research and found 3 places one of which had an awful review on yahoo, so I decided to just go to one of the other two places. Well, turned out the other 2 places had closed down so I had to just go to the one listed as awful. When I got to the strip mall there were a few more jewelers who sold watches. I didn't even see the one with the bad review so just stopped into this one, MacTavish Jewelers. Customer service was amazing! I had a great experience at MacTavish. Careen was extremely helpful. She showed me pretty much every ring in the store and let me try them on, go back and forth, etc. She helped me narrow down my preferences and was sweet and patient. I was not ready to decide that day but she let me take pictures of ones I liked and wrote down the serial (is that what they are? model numbers? some form of reference) for them. I did not feel pressured to buy at all which was great. I had anxiety about being pushed into an engagement ring I did not love and was relieved at my experience there. Browsed a different jewelry store at a mall - three women swarmed me and pretty much demanded I finance a random $10k ring on the spot. I explained that I wanted my middle diamond to be a fake ordered online and they said picking a ring was impossible without having the gem first - I was going to order the gem based on the ring. Decided to just go back to MacTavish! My second trip Harry helped us. By then I had a coherent idea of what I wanted. I ended up liking the setting of one ring and the carving of another. No problem! I got my ring customized so I got both. No judgement and completely accommodating to the fact that we were ordering the middle gem online. I took my Oakley watch in for a simple battery replacement. The next day the watch stopped working and something started to rattle around inside the watch. I took it back and explained the situation. They refused to remedy the situation. They said I would have to pay to repair it, and that they were not the cause of the issue. Either they are inept, or dishonest, or both. Either way, they've lost yet another customer. I will never go back there. read more

My wife's wedding ring needed a bit of repair - a break in the band soldered, re-plating, and to have two small diamonds in the band replaced. I decided to come here due to its Yelp rating. When I arrived and explained what I needed done, I was immediately upsold. Apparently I also needed the prongs rebuilt and to have several of the other band diamonds tightened. I accepted (my own mistake) for a price that seemed a bit too high (again, my own mistake). I picked the ring up again in about a week and everything seemed fine - until about 2 weeks later. Now FOUR of the band diamonds are missing - great tightening work that I paid for! Also, do not sell gold here. When I was calling for quotes, they offered over $300 below spot price - a full ten times higher than another jeweler in the same shopping center. read more

My boyfriend bought me a ring, but I needed to get it re-sized. Well because the ring had to be shrunk 2.5 sizes, the jeweler said that they couldn't shrink it that much. If they did, the diamonds on the band would pop out. So instead, they put a ring guard on the ring. They did it right there and I was in-n-out in about 10minutes. However, the ring guard was not secure. It keeps moving around and it's starting to scratch my band (which is white gold). I went back a few days later and asked them for a refund because of what a lousy job they had done with this ring guard. They said no and didn't do anything about it. read more

It must be something about businesses in Irvine, but this is the third time I've been ripped off by one in this city. If these "mom & pop" retailers want to compete with the big corporate ones, they better start treating their customers with a little more common decency. Anyhow, I took a ring, I bought my wife for Christmas, in for resizing. It was a 4.75 ring, that I needed sized to a 5. The lady behind the counter was really nice, and filled out my receipt noting that the ring needed to be resized to a 5. I dropped it off on Tuesday, and the lady who helped said it would be ready that Saturday. Saturday I go down to pick it up after they called to tell me it was ready. They charged me $35 for the resizing. Gave the ring to my wife, and she said to me that it was still a tight fit. So I asked her to compare it to the rings on her left hand that are 4.75 size, and the ring I brought in for resizing was still a 4.75. So basically Mac Tavish charged me $35 for doing nothing. I didn't go back for my money, and I am very angered by the fact that they lied to me. I went to another jeweler, to check the sizing, and it's still 4.75. I will never give my business to this jeweler ever again. read more

GREAT service! Straight to the point and very helpful I went into the store and was greeted with a smile by a woman. I told her I needed my watch re-adjusted and she measured out my wrist, let me know how long it'd take and let me know how much it cost (the price they give you is the price that it is, no tax added) I went during lunch hour so I would have to wait an hour but the entire process of dropping off my watch and picking it back up took less than 5 minutes. Went to MacTavish because its close by and signs say they repair Jewlery. They told me to fix a charm loop for me was going to be $85. It snapped off when I got it caught on a hamper doing laundry. When I walked in a girl looked at the charm and then brought it to a man behind a little glass in a small repair type booth to show him. All it was literally was to solder it. Maybe it could take a minute with the tools. The quote was 85 plus tax it would be almost $100. Oh then I am,told they dont repair right there they send the jewelry to another location. I needed a ring resized and I've been hesitating because I wanted a trustworthy jeweler to do it. I tried to take my tanzanite ring to my wedding jeweler but they had to turn it down because they only work with diamond rings and didn't want to risk harming a gemstone they don't specialize in. After reading positive reviews on Yelp I decided to give MacTavish a try. I needed my 14K ring resized from a size 9 to 6. The ring it not solid but hollow in certain parts. This is very difficult to do without breaking the ring. At first the jeweler can only promise me he can resize from 9 to 7. But at the end not only was the jeweler able to do this but ahead of schedule. The ladies that helped me were also very friendly and kind. I will definitely do business here again. I also wanted my watch battery replaced but they only work on non-digital watches. At least I know where to take my Omega watch one day. read more

I was one of those girls who picked out my own engagement ring. My then-boyfriend (now husband) didn't mind a bit -- he knows how picky I am with my lipstick, socks, cat collars, etc., so he understood I'd want a lot of say in the ring that was to sit on my left hand for the rest of my life. I started my search at Bailey's Banks and Biddle, where I saw a Tacori ring and promptly drowned the counter in my drool. The nice folks gave me a Tacori catalogue with hundreds of different rings to see if I preferred any of the others. One stood out -- the exact same one I had just tried on in the store. Neat. I like consistency. The problem is that BBB is a phat rip-off due to their sky-high mall rents. I went on the Tacori web site and found that literally a mile from our apartment, right along my jogging route, was another store that sold Tacori. I stopped by MacTavish, and after about 15 minutes of haggling (I'm part Asian -- it's in our nature to bargain), I was out the door with an amazing price on my ring (more than 1K less than BBB) and the SKU number so my boyfriend could go order it with his choice of diamond (I'm not THAT controlling as to dictate carat size!). We also bought my wedding ring there and had it soldered to my e-ring, all for a great deal. Even though we've since moved south, I still drop by MacTavish when I'm in the area for a kick-ass ring cleaning and to ogle their other jewelry. After my wife's pregnancy, she needed to re-size her wedding and engagement bands. Originally we had purchased these bands in Downtown LA in the Jewelry district, but it was too much of a pain to travel there. I've always passed by MacTavish, but seeing the great reviews in Yelp, we decided on going there. Truthfully speaking, it's not easy to give up your rings to a person/establishment that you've never dealt with. But after speaking with the person at the counter, we felt that the business was honest and fair. To increase the ring size, they had to cut the bands and add about 1 mm more of platinum. This only cost us $80 for both! I was concerned about the cutting of the band, but it looked perfect. On a side note, I've always wondered about these neighborhood jewelers. If people like me choose to drive to places they're comfortable with, how can they make money and stay in business? Well, MacTavish has been around for a long time, so next time I need any jewelery, I'll definitely stop by there first. read more

I stupidly went in for a ring guard and they damaged my ring with clamps to get the ring guard on and it was so uncomfortable! First of all, don't ever get a ring guard!! It's a cheap piece of tin that can damage the gold. Get your ring resized by a professional jeweler you trust. I learned my lesson the hard way! I got the guard removed by a quality jeweler who explained all of this to me. And this place is a ripoff! They charged me $12 for a piece of tin and they damaged my ring band. Not happy at all!! One of best place in OC to get your watch fixed. Employers are absolutely kind and very helpful. Very reasonable price compare to other places in Irvine or tustin. Cant ask for more!! I always come here to get my watch fixed. Today was my 4th time here, I was here to get my new watch resized. First time, little long so i came back again to resize it shorter. And i came back again when i realized watch was little too tight for me. It was my fault for measuring wrong size for myself, but employers here greeted me with a smile, and were very happy to help me out even though i came back for the same thing 2 times.
