This little thumbs-up is a long time in coming. I own a 2009 MacPro and it presented me with a spinning wheel so often that I closed it and shelved it for a few years. I was using my iPad and Iphone waiting for a my financial situation to change in order to be able to purchase a replacement for the Pro. I became aware that my wrists and my hands were hurting from typing on those two little Apple miniatures and in addition, I was not writing because it was ergonomically as well as tactilly not something that I wanted to do on a mobile (everyone is different) . I was getting increasingly irrated with the entire situation and I called Sharman. She talked me off the ledge and assured me that she would look at my dinosaur of a laptop and give me her honest acessment on whether it could be revived. I had worked with Sharman before and knew I could trust her completely. When I brought it in, she not only brought the computer which I currently am typing on back to life, but she instructed me step-by-step on what to purchase and how to connect itto an old Television screen so that I could have a makeshift Desktop. She and her staff were timely, stayed on budget with the quote that I received and saved me from devolping wrist problems! Seriously folks, MacVolks is where you need to go for all of your Mac needs. Rude front desk and customer service and their pricing is outrageous. After speaking with Apple customer support, they directed me here (a certified Mac technician) and I specifically asked if it would be a free diagnosis (they promised it would be). When I got here the lady I spoke to in the front rudely said that it'll be $110 for then just to open it up. When I told her that Apple customer support had promised a free diagnosis, she rudely responded "that's your problem, we are macVolks and that's Apple"... what a waste of time. read more

People write reviews based on really bad service or exceptional service. The service at macVolks was exceptional. I don't write very many reviews but I am so satisfied with the service. You don't experience customer service like that these days. First, I stopped by (with an appointment) and the very nice woman at the front greeted me and explained the entire process. She was upfront with the cost, all the way down to the penny. Not only that, they communicated with me about the day it would be finished as well and it was surprisingly done early. As of this writing, I've not moved forward with the service I was seeking. However, it's solely due to my indecision. My experience was stellar! Chiara is a true asset and should you have the pleasure of speaking with her you'd know it also. She is very knowledgeable, and spoke with me in a manner that I could understand as a non-technical person, but in no way made me feel ignorant about my device. Apple referred me to macVolks as all the Apple Stores are shut down. Took in my MacBook Pro which died. They replaced the motherboard under Apple Care warranty program. Good as new!!! If you need a repair EVER! start here! Unfortunately I was in need of a repair during Covid (when all the Apple stores were closedown). So began the search for my now broken Mac Pro computer (a very wet computer I might add... I brought my iMac in for a second repair in 2 weeks. The first repair at the Apple Store in Walnut Creek was major disappintment; never a call back and 2 USB-C ports weren't working after bringing it home (whereas they were before). This place is INCREDIBLE. I am leaving the country and wanted my screen replaced due to manufacturing defects. From the minute I called, Chiara knew what the problem was, explained the process, told me it could be done before I left (which Apple couldn't do) and told me I could drop off ASAP. Every time I went (pick up and drop off), Chiara was extremely helpful and thorough with the process and just really important general Mac information. My iMac HD failed 8 months out of the extended warranty. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. MacVolks to the rescue! First off easy peasy parking! No lines! No crowds! No upselling! Just clear explanation over the phone and a convenient time to bring my POS in for exam. They even suggested some ideas that worked out to save me a few bucks! How cool is that? I have a desk top iMac. It had trouble connecting to the internet. Long story, twists and turns. It was fixed, then another problem, seemed to be fixed again, then trouble again. After one visit there with computer and then 2 extensive troubleshooting phone calls, it is great. They were fair, friendly, patient, and solved the problem. As one of the only local options for an 'Authorized Service Provider' aside from the Genius Bar, Macvolks may be a straightforward choice... but the reasons to prefer Macvolks - ease of scheduling aside - are numerous.  The technicians were personable & kind long before ever having a physical/retail location - and generous in sharing their expertise with the local community.  In short, if even a computing dinosaur (who used a Mac long before they were ever to be found in schools or connected to a network) can benefit from a second opinion about an intractable problem, then surely feeling confident in soliciting the expertise of Macvolks (i.e. when needing help which the Genius Bar can't provide, e.g. for an older computer) is not unreasonable.  Though their light touch & (thoughtful grace) may leave one wondering whether their services are really needed at all, it suffices to say that we'd be at a loss for not having them (especially in a pinch!). read more

I had a day to fix a broken hard drive for my job. They fixed it and installed a 2tb drive so fast it made my head spin! And for hundreds less than the "Geniuses " at the Mac store and no snobby attitude. My second visit to the highly competent and fast techs at MacVolks was because I mistakenly (twice) got an SD card stuck in my CD drive . I had my Mac back in 3 hours and both rescued discs !! 2 lessons you can take away from my review 1. MacVolks' Chiara understands emergency situations ! 2. Earlier this week I found my MacBook Pro with half a screen after it cracked. I first reached out to the Apple Support team online and after some pressing, was able to get an estimate on how much it would cost, which was a punch in the gut. On top of that, the first opening at the Walnut Creek store wasn't for 5 days, so I started looking at alternatives. I called one store before MacVolks, and the guy on the other line was a bit of a know-it-all in an annoying way. Then I called MacVolks, and the customer experience was night and day. They placed the order for a new screen and gave me a date to bring it in. So yesterday, I dropped off my laptop at 11, thinking that I should get it back the next day, but instead, they called at 2 to let me know it was ready. On top of that, it was significantly cheaper than going to the Apple Store! So if you want great customer service, reasonable prices and a computer that looks good as new, then MacVolks is the way to go. read more

Suddenly, without warning, my MacBook Pro's hard drive decided to fail, and wouldn't you know it, it occurred right as I had to complete an editing project days before heading out of town for a couple of weeks. Apple tech support actually advised me to contact macVolks, as going through the Genius Bar route would have taken too long. Sharman at macVolks was sensitive to my predicament and was able to look at my computer almost immediately. Great service, I went to an Apple service store in Berkeley and was given the runaround to get my Macbook serviced. I went to macVolks to resolve a dead battery, dead Thunderbolt port, and broken keyboards on Macbook Pro 2017 and Macbook Air 2018 and Chiara and the team was able to help me resolve the issues with minimal efforts (on my part). I took my Mac to them for data recovery. They quoted me 10 hours at $150/hr. What a rip off. They are charging how much time it takes to run a software program at night while everyone is at home. I talked to many people that said companies do this to take advantage of people that need all their personal photos and documents. I ended up paying the $150 to diagnose the computer, just so I could get it back. Then I took it to I-net computers in Brentwood and the guy charged me $425 to not only get all my stuff off the old failed drive but to also install a new drive. Mac Volks was going to charge even more to fix the failed drive. I don't trust them, and I recommend never taking a Mac to them. They are in business to charge a huge amount of money off your misfortune. I gave them one star but they don't even deserve that. read more
