In May 2026, we used Macy Movers for our move from Tracy, California to Salem, Oregon, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations from start to finish. After hearing plenty of horror stories about moving companies over the years, I was cautious when choosing a mover. Macy Movers quickly put those concerns to rest. From the initial estimate through the final unloading in Oregon, every person we worked with was professional, organized, friendly, and helpful. Stevie in customer service was excellent throughout the process. She personally answered calls, followed up quickly by phone, text, and email, and made what could have been a stressful move feel manageable. Chris, VP of Sales, provided a detailed estimate and valuable advice on which items we should pack ourselves and which fragile items should be handled by their team. We also have a rare custom glass-top coffee table, and Macy arranged for a third-party specialist to build a custom crate for the glass and later unpack it at our new home in Salem. That attention to detail gave us immediate confidence. On packing day, driver Chris and packers Ruben and Elgin arrived exactly on time. After a detailed walkthrough, everything was professionally packed, labeled, tagged, and inventoried. I especially appreciated the thorough inventory process because it ensured nothing intended for the move was missed. On loading day, I initially had concerns because another customer's shipment for Seattle was already in the truck. Chris carefully explained how the shipments would remain completely separated and assured me our belongings would not be touched again until arriving in Salem. Watching Ruben load the truck was impressive -- every inch of space was efficiently and carefully utilized while keeping everything secure and organized. One of my biggest concerns with any moving company was the possibility of surprise charges after everything was loaded. I was pleasantly surprised when the final bill actually came in LOWER than the original estimate because our shipment weighed less than expected. It was refreshing to work with a company that was honest and transparent. On delivery day in Salem, Chris and Atlas unloading specialist Rick arrived exactly on time, unloaded everything, reassembled furniture, and carefully placed items exactly where we wanted them. Not a single piece of furniture was damaged. As we continued unpacking over the following week, we were extremely impressed with the care taken in packing fragile items. So far, we have not found a single damaged item. Moving is stressful, especially an interstate move, but Macy Movers made the entire process smooth and professional from beginning to end. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I used this agent to schedule our move with Atlas and paid for insurance back in June. But before our movers arrived at our drop off location, I got a call from their assistant asking for full payment. I informed them that the movers had not arrived nor did they complete the job but the owner Mark called me and said that they could ask for full payment because CA law allowed them to do so (??) So I paid in full. When they completed the move some of our inventory was not accounted for because the numbered stickers they used had fallen off the boxes. However the movers asked me to indicate that ALL my items were accounted for on the inventory list and sign off on it. It was unethical for them to ask me to do this so I did not comply. When I examined our received items I noticed some damages, I notated them with the movers and we both took pictures. I submitted the insurance claim for the damages back in July 2024 and submitted pictures. Macy Movers sent someone to fix some of the damages in August however 2 items were not fixed or addressed. I followed up with their office assistant, Stevie multiple times and sent pictures, receipts etc but they have been giving me the run around. It's been 6 months since our move and still no resolution. We have not received a copy of the insurance policy they solicited to us that we paid for prior to our move nor have they acted with ethical business practices. This was the worst company I've ever dealt with. When we opened some of our boxes, we had multiple broken items that we did not even list on our claim form. In the middle of moving with them and it's been the WORST communication & experience. The driver I have been working with has been verbally confirming details that apparently no one authorized. He confirmed my pick-up date and time wrong and approved a drop-off window that apparently is impossible...so screwed up my entire move. When I called to share my experience, the manager, Chris, accused me of lying saying "his drivers are trained and would never do that". EXCUSE ME??????? What kind of manager says that??? He also tried to tell me that I'd just called them on Friday to book when I have written proof via email that I reached out to them weeks ago. We hired Macy Movers to put our furniture in the garage while our hardwood floors were being refinished. While moving the furniture back into the house, they dropped a statue, breaking the head off of it and denting the newly refinished floor. We submitted a claim for the value of the statue. We have never heard from them. We have called five times and been told someone would get back to us. No one has ever called. read more

We used Macy Movers 7 years ago for a move and everything went well, on time, on budget and everything delivered smoothly despite pouring rain. So they were my natural first choice when I had to move again. Sadly, I can not give them the same rating. They underbid the move, costing me over $2000 additional for the final total (unpleasant surprise). They did our packing both times: the first time we were packed quickly with no muss, no fuss. This time (with less stuff) it took them longer and some things were broken. Boxes were stuffed with paper and only a few items...I guess that's what you do when you charge packing by the box. And now I am 3 weeks into trying to get restitution for the damages to furniture and some broken items. The crew was super nice, but I would rather have grumpy and all my belongings intact. I won't use them again. Update: After calling and emailing for another 2 weeks, they finally sent people over to repair the damaged items and furniture. I recently relocated from Oakland, CA down to San Diego, CA and decided to go with a full service move (pack up and pack out) with Macy's movers. The entire process was seamless and professional every step of the way. They provided me with a quote that was competitive and ended up being $100 more than the final cost of the packing and move! That margin of error is impressive in the moving business. The gentleman who packed up my apartment, Carlos, was like watching an energized bunny in the flesh! I hired them to move an elderly client of mine into an assisted living setting. Jacob was very professional in how he did our estimate (which was very reasonable) and followed up promptly and got us set up for the day we requested. In was a fairly small job but he still treated us like valued clients. On moving day, Douglas and Carlos were exceptionally helpful. We were trying to fit too much into the space so they patiently helped as we changed our minds and shuffled things around. They came out to my home to get info for their estimate but never followed up. I sent emails, texts, and left messages but they never confirmed that they could do the job or give me a cost estimate. I know all of the movers are swamped now that things are starting to get back to normal, but they should have told me that they couldn't do the job. I eventually made other plans. I had a move about a month ago that was a nightmare with Macy Movers. My experience almost identically mirrors that of 'the devil e.' experience. The apartment building I moved into two years ago had paid for my move and contracted out to Macy's. At the time the move went smoothly, quickly and just as anyone would want - so I contracted with them again this time for my most recent move. If you were considering Macy Movers - don't. No joke, they took MULTIPLE breaks. I had the ENTIRE apartment packed, boxed and ready to go - the move started at 8 and I was moving TWO BLOCKS DOWN THE STREET. "What is this?" you ask? Yes, two blocks down the street. One guy moved as the other 'organized' things in the moving truck. Remind me again what there was to organize? Now guess how long it took for them to finish? Over EIGHT hours. The ONLY heavy item they moved was my Plasma tv, everything else was pre-boxed, marked and ready to go. How much was my total charge? $1000. PLUS, They dropped off boxes and supplies during the initial inspection, I assumed this was all gratis as part of the move. No, The boxes cost me $4-5 each and they wanted to take them at the end!?!?! No refund offered for returned boxes. Sorry, but at the end of the day, this is a lazy crew, a company that operates with poor ethics and not the choice for anyone looking to move an apartment. read more

Their representative, Joe Flodder, either through intention or incompetence, ignored most of the contents in one of our rooms thus dramatically underbid everyone else we spoke with. I had three different full-service moving companies (besides Macy) send estimators to my home, and I also interviewed several alternative-move companies (e.g., PODS, MiniMoves, and more). Through all my research it became abundantly clear Mark Macy runs an honest and above-board company, and his team takes great pride in their work. My experience in working with Macy Movers during my extended long-distance move (with a month+ of storage) bore this out in spades. From Chris who wowed me with his knowledge and patience during the estimation and contract creation, to Stevie who was always there to answer my million nit-picky questions over the phone, to Tony's team who packed and loaded my old home with humor and immense professionalism, to Clint who delivered my belongings to my new home and even went out of his way to hunt down mis-labeled items for me, every person I worked impressed me with their ethic, attitude, and competence. I had the pleasure of working with Chis Mayer and Stevie Altidore from Macy Movers. We just moved from Alameda, CA to Philadelphia, PA. From the time we closed on the house, to the time our belongings were delivered was just 8 weeks. Chris adjusted his schedule to meet our very short time frame by squeezing us into his busy day. He arrived promptly, let me know of things I forgot(the locking set for the clothes washer, so it doesn't break the springs on the drum), and told me to pack the boxes to the top so that they won't crush easily. We scheduled the pickup date and Steve, the driver, arrived with two gentlemen on time at 8:00. We packed 95% of our stuff and they packed up/wrapped everything else. They were all efficient, extremely pleasant to work with, and got the job done in 8 hours(which included a stop at a storage unit). Steve gave me his cell phone number and told me the date he would be arriving in Philly. I checked with him a couple days before, and he was at our house at 8:00, the day before Thanksgiving, which is the day he said he would arrive. The team that joined him was remarkable!! They were running up and down our three story twin with smiles on there faces. All of the guys were charming, friendly, funny, and hard working. They listened to us after we had changed our minds from where the boxes were originally supposed to go to there new landing spot. All of the guys-Aaron, Eric, RJ, Luther, and Steve were professional, considerate, and lovely. Moving cross country can be very stressful(this is my 4th time doing it), and I can not say enough about how confident I felt about Macy Movers, Steve, and all the people that helped us. Despite the many bad reviews here it was with some trepidation that I chose Macy Movers for our interstate move from our 1.5 bedroom San Francisco apartment to Seattle. There is a great deal of fly by night, aggressive, mob run, and other nefarious organizations that purport to be reputable moving companies. After screening at least half a dozen and rejecting for various reasons I had settled between two local, interstate, reputable moving companies. Macy's Movers and Alexanders Mobility. Both are agents of Atlas Van lines, both more or less did everything "by the book". Macy's has been around forever and is well respected in "the industry" if not by yelpers who have had bad experiences. By the book means: They actually do an inspection of your premise before giving you a quote. They don't require an upfront deposit or prepay. They went into detail about everything I wanted done and didn't want done and gave me a quote reflecting that. They worked with me to find ways to save me money and were willing to negotiate certain aspects such as special packing of my Flat screen TV. One thing people should be clear on is with any moving company always ask for a binding "not to exceed" quote. This means if they have done the walk through, written on the quote all the things you want them to do (packing art, mirrors, etc) they cannot charge you more than you expected. As far as my experience: Getting a quote: Went well, the guy came when he said he would and worked within my tight scheduling needs. He was knowledgeable and asked appropriate questions. I was also prepared, that helps. They are old-school and wanted to fax things back and forth, how quaint. Fine, kinda annoying that they don't have an advanced email system and quote generator but they were able to email me stuff, it just wasn't pretty. They were competitively priced comparatively. Moving out: I was more or less all packed up with the exception of art, mirrors, and some other things. They sent a two man father and son team and they worked hard the whole time, treated my stuff with care and were generally good natured. It took longer than any of us expected but it got done. Moving in: They held my stuff in storage for 30 days as I still needed to find a place. Once I called and told them I was ready they had my stuff on a truck on it's way exactly when they said they would. I received a call from the driver confirming the appointment. and a call from the office for final payment details. All was as quoted and went according to plan. They arrived on time, with two extra people. All people who showed up were friendly and hard working. The one woman who helped was a little quirky and mentioned she wish she had quit smoking when climbing the stairs for the umpteenth time and then mentioned how she only ever quit when she was in JAIL which threw me off a bit but hey, if the job you can get is hard labor, maybe your life hasn't been as charmed as it was for everyone. I got over it, but kept a close eye on my stuff. We were super organized and had an independent inventory of everything that went into that truck. The guys stuck around and helped me make sure I had marked every box as received and stayed until I was satisfied. They also encouraged me to open boxes that looked like they had gotten damaged in the move to verify nothing was broken (it wasn't) All in all, a good experience, I would use them again. I just wrote up a review for Delancey Street Movers and decided to take a look at whether anyone had anything good to say about Macy Movers since I had a previous experience with them. Since no one has reviewed them yet I will take the opportunity to yelp even though my experience with them was a couple of years ago. Here's my experience which I also posted in my very positive review of Delancey Street Moving: "I was moving a small 2 bdrm apartment less than three blocks in downtown Oakland. I called around and found that most 'reputable' movers had very similar pricing so availability on my move date became the real deciding factor. I went with Macy Movers. Bad decision. They did not show up on the morning of my move date and didn't even bother to call. When I called them they said a previous job had run overtime and that they would arrive soon. By 3PM they still hadn't arrived. They finally admitted that they overbooked and that they would be there the next morning at 8 AM. They came the next day, parked their truck and dropped off a scrawny teenager to begin loading by himself. They said they would be back shortly with the crew. The kid worked hard but one person moving and loading is just plain inefficient. The crew (two more guys) didn't show up intil 2PM. They didn't finish moving me until 8PM and they left lots of stuff out of place - in the house but not exactly where I wanted it." Suffice it to say, the next time I moved I went elsewhere. So I called and scheduled an estimate appointment with Stevie Alattore. She confirmed my appointment with Chris Mayer who was set to show up between a window time of 11:30am and 12pm. Around 12pm, Chris calls me and says that he would be at my house in 20 minutes. I sit with my front door open and wait as want to make sure I hear him....I sit and wait and wait...1:30pm comes around and I attempt to call Chris. I get no answer. I call the Stevie and she says oh there was some kind of altercation in front of the house when Chris was trying to park and he said he was not interested in coming back to the area. I was then asked if I wanted the name of another mover, which I declined. No one called to inform me or anything. I missed work and was left waiting. Imagine had I not called. Regardless of what happened, which had nothing to do with me, this was very unprofessional and not how you do potential customers. I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed. read more

What a great experience we had using Macy Movers to help us unload our 26 ft moving truck recently! We had 2 of the most cordial & hard working guys for 4 hrs and they managed to get it done early in record time! They were careful, steady on their feet carrying some heavy boxes & a couple of really heavy pieces of furniture all the way from the truck (200 or more ft ) & down 7 steps - then go back for more... Although we drove our rental truck ourselves from NV to CA, only needing assistance with unloading at our destination, I would absolutely recommend this company for any moving job you need - near or far!!! I got promoted and was given two movers as options to be paid for by the company I work for. Macy had better google reviews than the other option and I had to move quickly so I didn't do thorough research on the company. I proceeded to contact their company. It took them a few days to get back to me to schedule a moving assessment. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment in the Bay Area and I am moving about an hour away. I told them the move was going to be covered by my company and gave them the paperwork I would need filled out so they could provide all pertinent information. I was informed I would get an assessment done within a few days. The assessor came and viewed my apartment, I told him I was not bringing my couch and I was going to be completely packed for the move. He told me I would receive a quote by the next day. Three days later I called to follow up (I gave him the long weekend just in case he meant next business day) and they said he had sent it. He indeed had not as I received it an hour after the call. The quote was $2158 and some change. Every other mover I had received a quote for was around $600. My company would give me $1000 on the front end and then reimburse me later. However, I genuinely felt like Macy was trying to get as much as they could from my new employer. I emailed back and cancelled services with them (I would have to pay out of pocket anyways at that point but it might as well be from a company not trying to gouge). They called me and said the additional cost was for an extra employee to 'help me pack' and that he could remove that person and bring the cost to $1650. Which would mean it would cost me the same to have Macy move me or to have someone else with my company paying $1000. I felt very much as if they were trying to get as much out of my employer as possible and take advantage of the fact that I am a young woman requesting services and they believed they could pull one over on me. My company hired Macy Movers to move our 20-person office and basement storage room from Oakland to Alameda on a Saturday. They came by a couple of times to do a walk-through to get an idea of the amount of items we had, as well as drop off boxes/labels for us to use. 11 guys and 3 trucks arrived on time that morning and after two round trips, we were all moved in by 6:00pm. They were totally professional, but also a great group to joke around with, which just made the day go by faster and made it more fun! Used them a couple years back when I moved here from out of the area. When the guys showed up, there was already someone else's stuff in the truck, sectioned off with a tarp. I figured it was a Saturday and my delivery was Monday morning. When the offloading guys opened the truck, everything had been moved around, so clearly they took the other stuff out first. It took me a few months to go through everything, and I realized a few of my boxes were missing. Nothing valuable, house stuff. I called and left messages and emailed and never heard back. I gave the date, and all the details, including labeling on the missing boxes but never heard back. The guys who loaded the truck were great. A lot of work efficiently done. The guys who unloaded were nice enough, but had to be reminded what Fragile means when it's written on a box. I wanted to let you know that I found Macy Movers to provide excellent service for my move on Friday. Clint and his team were very professional and took care with my belongings. They were friendly as well. Stevie and the team responded to my request for three men instead of two for a one bedroom, which I appreciated. Without three men the five -hour move would have taken much longer. Clint took care to explain to me what they were doing and how my things would be stored for a month in Hayward while I awaited availability of my new home. If I use Macy's again I will certainly request Clint as lead for the move. All in all it has been a great experience so far. Amazing! My husband and I are relocating from the Bay Area out of state. We hired Macy's movers to move and store all of our stuff and move us out of state. Super stressful time in our life, but Macy's movers made it so much better. They sent a crew of five men who could not have been nicer, more accommodating, and such great work ethic. We had a few items that we were stressed about and didn't get packed in time and weren't sure we are going to take and they were wonderful and box things up for us at the last minute didn't feel rushed, they were there all day. These guys were contracted to pack my house for moving by the local affiliate of a national moving company and the three guys they sent did a disgustingly poor job of packing. I have never had my belongings treated with such disregard. Items were literally dumped into boxes and then sealed shut. Fragile, were placed at the bottom of moving boxes with heavy items placed on top and grossly inadequate packing paper used. Small items that could have easily been wrapped and combined into fewer boxes, were left separate and unwrapped. Given all the positive reviews, I sure as heck hope this was an anomaly, but if you decide to use these guys, make darn sure you're watching them pack. read more

We hired Macy movers for our corporate relocation. Since I was away my boyfriend was there while they packed and loaded our stuff for our move from the Bay to SoCal. We thought everything was ok until we unpacked our stuff. The lampshades for the torch lights were broken. We thought, no big deal. We can just replace them. Then I realized my brand new wedding dress was missing a couple months after we finished going through all the boxes after the move. I've used them twice.. just down the block from my place.. they are AWFUL.. huge breaks, took forever.. but worse, far worse is that things got badly damaged. It was unbelievable the amount of stuff that got dinged and cracked. The first time I used them they pointed out to me damage to a speaker they made, and after a call to the office, they took the cost right off the total charge. Impressive, so I used them again.. but the second move brought many, many more nicks and damages. I'm trying to think of more to say but this experience was bad all around - I'm too frustrated to even go into detail. Suffice to say, one barely worked, the other was 'gone' most of the time or 'in the truck'. They both took their lunch and work breaks at the same time (instead of staggering and letting me help) and basically extended the overall time/cost it took to move. Next time I'm reading Yelp reviews and going with Movers Anonymous - or any other company that has decent reviews. Wish I came here first. read more

I used Macy Movers to move from Oakland, CA to Illinois. I waited a little too long to book movers, and many companies had no trucks available the week I wanted to move. First, they have no email capabilities. The contact negotiations were done solely by faxing back and forth. And they kept forgetting things that we had discussed (packing the kitchen, moving the motorcycle, insurance versus no insurance, and extra for delivery to a storage facility), and I had to watch the estimate price creep up higher and higher. And for some ridiculous reason, they charge extra for delivering to a storage space! Even though this requires less work for them because they didn't assemble anything, didn't have to walk up any stairs, just placed it all in a square storage unit!! And there were wheeled carts they used at the storage facility!! There was plenty of parking, they didn't have to block any driveways, and yet they charged me extra?! The day of pick-up: Two guys from Atlas van lines showed up. They were supposed to pack my kitchen for me- I paid them to. He didn't bring enough boxes and said it was my responsibility to pack the rest. That's not what the contract said, I paid for them to pack the whole kitchen. I didn't have enough boxes to pack the rest of the kitchen, so I had to put things in the empty garbage can and hamper to pack it up. It took them all day to pack the truck. 10am until 6pm. I admit I was finishing up some last minute packing while they were there. And they were nice about it. The day of delivery: Same two guys. I didn't realize this at the time, but they didn't wrap my mattresses in anything, after I had been told they would be placed in boxes or wrapped in plastic to keep them clean. They were just hanging out in the truck, getting dirty. I complained, and they wrapped them in some plastic wrap before they took them to the storage space. Great, now they can marinate in dirtiness. I got to see boxes marked clearly and boldly "FRAGILE" placed at the bottom of the piles of boxes. One of the guys dropped my food processor (that had been a gift) from the top of the truck. "Oops, I'll pay for it," he says, and then after hearing it was $30, the guy's like, "You'll have to go through the claims department." There were scratches in my wooden end table and huge chips nicked out of a wooden bookshelf. And a box was missing. When going through the boxes, there were four boxes not labeled, and one box missing. "Oh, the missing box is probably one of the un-labeled boxes. Those labels don't always stick on good." Well, why use them then? I could only hope that my missing box didn't get dropped off at someone else's house. I watched them take out other people's stuff to re-arrange, which could easily get misplaced or put in the wrong spot, and saw some other broken things just randomly laying around the truck. I called Macy Movers about the kitchen-packing (or rather lack of), the dirty mattresses, broken food processor, and damaged wooden items. They said it was out of their hands now. I had to call Atlas van lines. They were the people I made the reservations for, but there was nothing they would do now about sticking behind their contract. I'm sure there are worse companies. My motorcycle made the trip just fine. Most of my stuff made it undamaged (at least that I know of so far), and I'm hoping it's all there (I'm still going through it). They weren't very good about returning phone calls- I had to keep calling them to keep updated. It's just a general hassle moving. I'd recommend taking your own inventory as you pack, and label the boxes with your own numbers in permanent marker. Then write down what number they label the box with their stickers so you can tell if a label falls off, if your box is missing or not, and what was in it. read more

NOT "THE CAREFUL MOVERS" they claim. We hired this company do do a large move from our house in Alamo in July. They packed everything and moved it to Reno. Unfortunately, both on my kids beds had to be dis-assembled and then reassembled at the new house. The crew seemed to be having trouble with the beds on both ends and we offered to give them the instruction sheets but they said everything was OK. Well, after they left, I took the mattress off of my daughter's bed only to find a large hole in the back panel where the end panel connected in (clearly visible to the guy that left it that way, and put the mattress in front of it). Then, about a week later, my son's bed started to COME APART because the metal support for the mattress (that kept it from falling 3 feet to the floor) was not connected for the last 3 feet at the bottom of the bed. Both the guys that left the beds this way KNEW they were not right. I contacted the owner who said they would take care of it, then said they were "Having trouble finding someone in Reno"; then a month later said he was getting parts from IKEA (but never looked at the beds). Then another month later he said the parts were wrong and they want to give me $300 (for $600 of ruined beds) and probably 3 hours of my time (each) to dis-assemble & assemble them, plus time to drive to Sacramento and get new beds or the parts for them. Then said I declined the extra insurance so they weren't responsible. Thanks a lot Macy Movers. You should clean up your own mess. If I wanted to take the beds apart and put them back together, I would not have paid you to do it. read more
